Vessels and Arms United Limitation Treaty (VAULT)

OOC: If you come up with a better name, tell me.

IC:

We have come to the realization that an Arms Race is gripping the Sol system, and Solar Systems beyond. Before a large scale war breaks out between the Extra-Terristial Powers, limitations must be made on vessels, their tonage, their dimensions, and their armament.

The Six largest Space Powers have been invited to the first rounds of negotiations which will be held in our capital city of Constantineople.

Those powers that have been invited are:

The Arda Alliance
The Galactic Alliance
The Triumvirate of Yut
The Empire of the Eternal Dawn
The Federation of Sentient Peoples

We are the sixth power, yet we are hosting the first Conference. Other alliances and nations may join in the talks. Hopefully we can stop anymore space wars from happening.

The Federation of Sentient Peoples hereby declines the invitation to this conference, seeing no need for such a treaty. If anyone were to get any bright ideas, the balance of power situation would cause the other powers to unite against them.

And while you're at it, why don't you try outlawing war? Oh sorry, they tried that already. Kellog-Briand Pact.

Anyways, have a nice day.

Apperantly the Nation of Sentient Peoples is not the Peaceful, kind-hearted nation we considered them to be. This is a step towards unity and peace of all peoples. If we only limit a little, then so be it. We will struggle to bring peace to the Solar System, and the Galaxy. If you do not want to aid us, then you can wallow in your own destruction.

I will make my fleets as big as I damn well please. And if ANY of your fleets enters the Pleiades Cluster, they will be as good as dead.

Why limit arms? This is like the SALT treaty that killed Russia, correct?

Bankrupt yourself if you wish. Do you not have any respect for sentient life? War is a horrible thing. War is a creation of sentient beings, and as sentient beings we must do our best to limit our darksides to make the Galaxy safe for our posterity.

No this is like the Washington Treaty. In which Great Britian scrapped 22 of her Dreadnaughts, and many more Dreadnaughts under construction.

And SALT didn't kill Russia. Russia's nuclear program killed Russia. If we are the only one's to limit our Space Assets so be it. For we seem to be the only civilized people in the depths of Space.

"Damn it John, I told you not to answer diplomatic communiques."

"Sorry, 'Nathan."

"No matter. I'll see if we can patch this up."

*****

The Federation of Sentient Peoples humbly apologizes for the behavior of our Minister of War. He has been asked to stay silent in diplomatic exchanges, but sometimes has difficulty.

Depending on the interest expressed by other invited powers, we may or may not send representatives to attand this VAULT conference.

You have called us 'war mongering', yet look at yourselves. Hypocrites. Not willing to scrap a few dozen of your vessels. The terms have not been set.

yet the difference is:
I have a fleet. To protect me. Right now it is being used to put down a terrorist organization. It was once part of a coalition to destroy an evil demon force. It is called DEFENCE.

YOU, on the other hand seem willfull to MOAB nations who you are not even at war with.

i want 100 million pounds

(ooc: WILL YOU SHUT IT?!?!?!?!)

IC:

The Republic of Ancient Terra agrees with ADK on this matter. We urge other nations to shelve their ambitions in order to avert an intergalactic arms race that could signal the end of life as we know it. Hopefully some of the powerful spacefaring nations will come to their senses and recognize the danger posed by such powerful spacecraft.

Additionally, we believe that undue hostility is being directed at ADK at the moment. They are only trying to help, yet they bare the greatest criticisms? This does not seem right.

"We are cold when we are strong"- Talin
Space makes us cold, space makes us strong.

The Sebecean people have come so far, and we will not give up our mighty fleet. All of our huge Command Carriers, are monuments to our labor. Our partical cannons, are signs of our intelligence above other nations. We will keep our fleets, and we will sail with our might. And no one will challenge the wisdom of this government, to do what decides is best.

Maybe then we should decide what KINDS of weapons should be used on our astronautical vessels. We can weed out excessively large weapons and highly destructive weapons. We never said you HAD to disarm, the terms of VAULT have not yet been set. No one has decided to come to the Constantinople Conference for the first round of talks. We don't have to limit our fleet numbers, yet we can limit the weapons in our fleet's inventories.

Long ago we came to the realization that it is not the larger and more respected powers that are in need of such a treaty. They have learned to police themselves, or they have perished. It is the younger more inexperienced nations that have need of such a treaty.

Never the less - we will send a representative to this conference. We would suggest that an effort be made to pursuade the real sources of war to attend as any real progress depends on their acceptance.

We will be representing ourselves, part of the Triumvirate of Yut, and part of MIDAS at this conference.

The S-S government will send a represenative, if we don't like what we hear, we will leave, and will not comply by your standards. And to show you my military might, that makes us strong, we're sending him on the second most advaced Command Carrier, the Oracle.

A common tactic, to restrict the sovereignty of nations and peoples in the name of "peace"; to cut liberties, freedom and capitalism in the name of "fairness." Perhaps, you seek to weaken the positions of the stronger, more responsible, and developed powers, in order to strengthen those of weak, underdeveloped anarchies and socialists?

The Conglomerate will send no representatives to this meeting, for we recognize no legal or moral authority of such a meeting to regulate our business and political freedoms.
