"Honor" Class Frigate

New Empire
19-10-2003, 19:00
In a joint operation, the New Genoese Defense Department (NGDD) and the New Empire Military Projects Department (NEMPD) have announced the release of the "Honor" Class Frigate. Using a trimaran design, the Honor can hit 38 knots during the average weather (Recommended crusing speed in rough waters, or for maximum range on D/E is 20 knots), and uses underwater "thrusters" called azipods for sharp turns. It has a vitrually global range, due to it's Johannes/Cummings Pebblebed Reactor, a nuclear reactor that runs off a pebble with "onion" like layers of graphite and silicon wrapped around a fleck of uranium. Due to the layering, the uranium itself will never reach "melting temperature", and therefore, no run-away reactions. Helium coolant eliminates radiation leakage because helium can't transmit radiation. Backup consists of 2 diesel electric turbines.
WEAPONS-
9X4 cell VLS tubes. Used to launch a mix of SM series weapons, or Cruise missiles. Can be modified to fit your missiles.
2x8 cell tubes using the MAS-44 (Based of of Kh-35)
Guidance inertial guidance and active radar homing
Maximum range 230 km
Minimum range 5 km
Missile speed 580 to 500 metres per second
Altitude in cruise phase 10 to 15 metres
Altitude in terminal phase 3 to 5 metres
Missile launch weight 643 kg
1xForward mounted 155mm ETC cannon.
6x tubes for 556mm torpedoes. Recommended-STAS-6 ASROC Supercavitating Torpedo. Has capability to travel 1 mile in 1 second.
Has room for 1-2 ASW Helicopters (Or VTOLS for you future people) depending on size.
DEFENSIVE SYSTEMS-
ECM, ECCM
SRBOC Mk 36
AN/SLQ-12 Nixie torpedo decoy
Sea Gnat
2 RAM Launchers
Also, the "Honor" utilizes the "Athena" system, which identifies incoming radar waves, and sends out the proper signals to cancel them out. The ship is also coated with a layer or Radar Abosorbent Material.
FIRE CONTROL
The "Honor" Class Frigate uses the USNE MK VII "PuppetMaster" FCS. Each weapons system has it's own node, which can track up to 40 enemy ships or missiles at the same time. The node for the RAM systems can track up to 200 missiles of various sizes. The MK VII can also be linked to other MK VII ships, allowing them to coordinate attacks, and increase the awareness of the crew to threats.
Crew- The Honor's optimal crew is 95, including 2 ASW Helo teams, due to the automation of many systems.
Cost-$820 Million
OOC and notes- If you reeeeally want a pic, just say so, and give me some time. I'll cook one up.

OOC: How about this... I reeeeally want a pic.

We of the government of Mushroomius would like to purchase 5 for shakedown and testing purposes... we may be back for more at a later date.

5(820,000,000)= 4,100,000,000.00

Four-point-one billion? Fwaa. Money sent.

OOC-Ok, gimme some time. Note that I can't image link with freewebs, so I have to transfer and stuff.
IC-Thank you. Your ships are being built, and will be sailed with a skeleton crew to your nation. Please wait (1RL Day) for your ships to arrive.

The state of Exetonia wishes to purchase 20 of these frigates at 16.4bil. Money is being wired as we speak. Pleasure doing business.

Exetonia-We doubt you have the necessary funds for this many ships. From the GDP calc-
Exetonia Gross Domestic Product
Population: 5,000,000
Civil Rights: Below Average
Economy: Reasonable
GDP per Capita: $7,500
GDP: $37,500,000,000
National Budget: $6,362,625,000
Perhaps you can afford maybe 2, depending on your military budget.

Please contact us when you have reached your decision.

In recent news, a "Honor" on manuvers in the Antartic bumped into a penguin.

The Macabean Empire will purchase 10 for 8.20 billion USD. We will add them to our Fleet of the West, as our Fleet of the East is complete (well we bought a fleet off a contracter).

OOC-No, not really. It's a trimaran.

20 knots?

Bah my missile boats can reach 38 knots and remai n stealthy.

That's around the recommended cruising speed for maximum range.
 I made a typo didn't I?
Hold on, that was supposed to be a 38. (Typed 1-2 keys to the left... D'oh.)

1 mile per second? That's nuts. Even for a super-cav torpedo

No, not really. Current US prototypes hit 15 Km in 10 seconds. (9.315 miles in 10 seconds.)

You know that comes out to 3600mph? I SERIOUSLY doubt anything can go that fast in water, are you sure it's not a mile every 10 seconds?

See, you don't even know what a supercavitating torpedo is.
To quote from the PopSci book 21st Century Soldier-
"A supercavitating torpedo get's it's intial thrust from an onboard rocket engine, then maintains it's high speed by emitting a gas through nozzles in it's nose. The gas envelops the projectile, encasing it inside a bubble of water vapor. Ocean water flows around the bubble, exerting almost no drag on the torpedo..." Of course, it would not turn at that rate, but still, it would be able to acheive those kinds of speed using 2010 tech, and the right engine.

So, what good is a torpedo that can't turn? And what about rough seas? I don't care how much gas you are pumping out that thing is going to be so unstable that a turd would screw up it's "flight"

Greetings...

The Protectorate of Grotia would like to order 4 frigates for coastal defence duties. Money wired to your account.

OOC-Fool, THE OCEAN FLOWS AROUND IT. Rough seas would have no effect unless it broke the surface. It can turn, it just loses speed when it does. Uses thrust vectoring, and fins.
EDIT-
*Ahem*
Sorry Grotia, your order has been confirmed.
OOC-Everyone else, if you have anything to say other than orders, or serious IC comments, please telegram me. I don't need you sh*tting all over my thread.

How do you control the thrust of a rocket?
New Empire

How do you control the thrust of a rocket?OOC-Ok, you didn't see my last post, but I'll let it slide. Basically, thrust vectoring doesn't directly affect the speed. It's "flaps" around the rocket that change the direction of thrust, like with the X-29 aircraft that NASA worked on, but on a smaller scale. The fact that it's turning will decrease the speed by itself, slightly. More advanced versions that can have the speed altered are under heavy research.
