I didn't like anything about that... price is way too low, speed is way too high, nation is way too young, just for starters

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE COMMONWEALTH OF BOA VISTA

The Commonwealth Government obtained the technology from an ex-nation that no longer exists. Before the nation was no more, we worked with them closely and was close to the development of a fighter jet close to the one we are selling right now. We continued with the development of the technology after the nation ceased to exist. The development project was not released to the public due to a dispute with the ex-nation. We are selling these aircraft because we believe that the aircraft will prove to be an asset for the air forces of the world.

Sincerely
Antonio Carmona

OOC:
Even if that were true, how would you account for the high speed? NationStates' greatest aerospace developers can barely reach mach 3. In addition, the price seems too low for such an aircraft.

EXPLANATIONS FROM COMMONWEALTH DEFENSE MINISTRY

For starters, the maximun speed is only achieved in extreme circumstances and cannot be sustained for very long without structural damages. The normal cruising speed is Mach 2 to Mach 2.4.

Second, we are selling these aircraft at such a low price because this is our first aircraft project and we need to establish our reputation in the world. Once our aircraft is equipping many air forces, the prices will be increased.

Sincerely
Jose da Rosa Silva
Defense Minister

You're selling them for $10M.

F/A-18 Hornet hits speeds of about Mach 1.8 and costs 39.5 - 60 million dollars. Perhaps a bit of reseach to real world prices would be wise in the future.

You may be trying to make a name for yourself, but doing so at a 50+ million dollar loss a pop is a good way to destroy your economy.

Hint: You always mess up a few times when you first start up. It's annoying but after a while you look back and laugh at the sheer silliness of it.

i will by 40 of these fighters i would like them delivered as soon as possible. all money transactions will be posted after the reciept of the fighters.

Oh brother, so because the "greatest" aircraft designers of NS cant design an aircraft that could get to Mach 4 then anyone making an aircraft that can reach Mach 4 is automatically ignored? Please, speed is hardly the price assigning issue, the JSF for example is horribly slow but yet very expensive from what i hear. The F-22 is also very slow compared to some of the new Russian fighters but still its very expensive. So, dont shoot the ignore cannon based only on the speed of the aircraft and thougts like "hell if some of the "greatest" aircraft designers havent achieved that..."

But yeah, this particular aircraft has some severe problems with it.
14-10-2003, 16:43
The thing is, we run on modern tech... the engines necessary for that kind of speed would be vastly future tech... the fastest thing any of us have is in the low Mach 3's... and this n00b comes and develops a super fighter that leaves all our best hard-earned tech in the dust and then sells these invisible superhero fighters for 1 tenth the price of our best fighters... that is why we ignore it. We'd be glad to help him though.

That explains some of it, but consider the fact that the Mig-25 Foxbat which was developed over 30 years ago is faster than any of the modern fighters. Its not the thrust thats the problem, the problem is with the fact that these days aircraft designers want stealth, maneuverability and high g resistance and good handling. Now, having seen a lot of the stuff going around here and knowing the business in the modern aircraft, i dont think that a Mach 3 or a max of Mach 4 aircraft would be as far as 60 year future tech or far-future tech. I agree that its not doable yet, but it also cant be really considered as "really far-uber future tech" those things are the fighters that can reach escape velocity with their engines.

IMHO, a mach 3.4 to mach 3.6 max velocity (which means max sustainable velocity for a little while) isnt still too far fetched from near modern technology. Ofcourse, that kind of fighter for starters wouldnt propably be as maneuverable as a slightly slower fighter with more devotion given to the handling and agility of the thing than structural integrity just to hold up on high speeds and it would be pretty damn expensive.

But anyhow, for a week old nation this kind of craft at this low cost is pretty godmoddish.
14-10-2003, 17:27
yeah... and that's what we're talking about.. this is just a little too far fetched to be real, forgetting the price as well... this is about 2020-30 tech... not too far, but further than most modern tech.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE COMMONWEALTH OF BOA VISTA

The President of the Commonwealth has authorized the selling of 40 Azores F-2 fighter jets to The Armed Republic of Kilras. At announcement, the fighter jets are on their way to Kilras and will arrive at their destination within the hour. The total cost of the sale is 400 million dollars.
We thank The Armed Republic of Kilras for their interest in our fine fighter jets and hope that they will be an asset for their army.

Also, the President has expressed his concern over other country's speculation that such a fighter does not exist. In an effort to increase the confidence in the aircraft, the President has ordered the Presidential Minister for Commonwealth Archives Affairs, Carlos Correira, to release top-secret documents about the engine of the aircraft and the testing of the aircraft. Parts of the documents have been edited in the interest of national security, however, the document will give a good view on the function of the aircraft.

Sincerely

That's a little more like it... but we'd still like to see some legit stats on HOW it goes that fast. How big is it? What kind of engines does it use? How long can it go at full speed?

TOP SECRET DOCUMENT REGARDING THE AZORES F-2 FIGHTER ENGINE

AUTHORIZED FOR RELEASE BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE COMMONWEALTH

The engine of the aircraft should produce a speed faster than any plane has ever reached before. The engine will be dubbed "Pegasus" and it will use newly devised technologies.

The engine will be like normal engines, using oxygen to burn fuel, however, the fuel will combust in a special combustion chamber where the thrust produced by the aircraft will be compressed into a small, dense stream. It will double the output of the engine and produce a speed of up to Mach 4.

Further tests are needed to see if the engine will be able to sustain such speed.

(The engine was tested three months after this document was released and Mach 4 was achieved for 30 seconds. The engine was mounted on a tester plane that is abut the same size and weight as the one we are selling and was launched from an airfield. Mach 4 was sustained for thirty seconds before the speed was lowered.)

OOC: OK, still about 2020 tech as it is not based on anything currently available or in testing.

TOP SECRET DOCUMENT

DEBEIEFING AFTER INITIAL TEST OF THE AZORES FIGHTER

SENDER- COMMONWEALTH MILITARY TECHNOLOGY BUREAU

RECEIVED- COMMONWEALTH MINISTRY OF DEFENSE AFFAIRS

AUTHORIZED FOR RELEASE BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE COMMONWEALTH

The unmanned aircraft was launched from (LOCATION DELETED FOR NATIONAL SECURITY PURPOSES) at 0600 hours. The aircraft reached its target altitute of 15,240m at 0605 hours. Speed was at Mach 1 at this time. Orders were given to increase the speed to Mach 4 at 0608 hours. Speed of Mach 4 was reached at 0620 hours. Orders were given to cruise at Mach 4 at 0622 hours.

The aircraft cruised at this speed until 0628 hours, when the overstress warning was given. Orders were immediately given to lower the speed to Mach 3 and the aircraft began its descent. Deceleration was slow and some damages were reported. Orders were given to end the test flight and land the fighter at 0630 hours. The fighter dropped below Mach speed at 0633 hours and landed safely at the runway at 0638 hours.

Upon inspection, the team noticed that some panels sheered off during the Mach 4 cruise and some vital parts of the aircrafts received heavy damages. Cracks were evident on the plane itself.

Based on the above inspection, the board recommends that Mach 4 flights be avoided unless a dire situation requires it, and that a Mach 4 flight be sustained for no more than 4 minutes. Also, the board has decided that the normal cruising speed of the fightrer jet is anywhere between Mach 2 and 2.5.

Sincerely
(NAMES DELETED FOR NATIONAL SECURITY PURPOSES)

OOC: Cool... still a little too advanced for most modern-tech player's rastes... just a warning... but there's still many who would play against that.
