Nuclear Grenade, excuse me, but the concept in itself is stupid.

Right up there with upward ejection seats on helicopters, screen doors on submarines and equiping policemen with squirt guns.

Nuclear grenades are a bad idea.. especially considering the thrower or firer would have no way of getting out of the blast radius. This is the same reason plans for nuclear artillery shells or rockets were abandoned.

The Council of Elders laughed for 45 minutes straight today after being informed that Nidor was selling "nuclear and chemical" grenades. After further observation... the grenades turned out to be made out of cheap plastic and were filled with Silly String.

pssst: nuclear artillery shells did (and likely still do) exist, perhaps not in 105mm or even 155mm (althought that size is still a possibility with a very limited tactical warhead) but soem of the larger types around...

Yup, tact nuke weapons fired by artilery do exist... they are just rare and low yeald. IT was the US armys way of getting in the nuclear age, but it sorta was seriously impractical
Chemical grenades exist too... so do gas ones, but micromicronukes, thats a dumb idea...

And believe or not, there was also on some point a nuclear bazooka  And no im not shitting in this. But nuclear grenades? Thats quite idiotic unless you have some powered armor infantry with greatly enhanced strength so that they can throw those grenades atleast 500 meters away and withstand the effects of a nuclear blast at that range.

Someones been reading John Ringo again ;)

(for those with no clue aboput john ringo, he writes a scifi series with power armor that can survive being at ground zero of a nuclear blast).

Yep, having read the whole Legacy of Aldenata series, i love his books. Where do you think i got my idea for ACS infantry? (altough its not as bad ass as in the books) Or the SheVa cannon?

Yep, the Powered Armor in Ringo's books are quite bad ass but anyways, for a normal infantryman a nuclear grenade would be rather moronic.

Ok first of all, upward ejection seats are the standard wtf? And second the army's way of getting into the nuclear program, was by starting it... the primary delivery system was rockets and later ballistic missiles. Remember the nuclear program predates the founding of the air force.

And last, the smallest nuclear weapon can be fired from a 120mm mortar, it was developed to be fired at tanks streaming through the fulda gap, should the soviets ever invade europe. While not a grenade it's still pretty small.

The Phoenix Milita: he said upward ejection seats on HELICOPTERS, currently the only helos with an ejection system are the Ka-50 family
13-10-2003, 17:56
Um, yeah, they do have ejection seats of helicopters. It just detatches the blades before launching the seat.

Hence the mentioning of the Ka-50 family, the first to feature that system, it currently isn't fitted on any current western type, which concentrate a lot of effort in crash protection and survivial.
