Ecuador annexed by Hvan, now looks to Columbia! (WWII rp)

13-10-2003, 16:27
April 4th 1938

As the sun appears over the Jungle treeline, 2500 Heavy Infantry cross the Hvan/Ecuador Border. They push inland several miles, securing a road and small village. Only at this point does the nation of Ecuador discover they are being invaded. Several thousand Ecuadorian troops are sent to counter attack the 'Vanian heavy troops occupying the town of Loja, and a road leading in from Hvan. Using this road, roughly 4000 more Troops are moved up to the new position, using heavy haulers. 24 MkI Tanks were being sent to help the upcoming fight.

((ooc: this was 1st Company))

160km Northeast
15,000 'Vanian troops cross the border between Hvan and Ecuador heading straight for Riobamba. Unlike their forces to the south, they run into heavy resistance from Ecuadorian Reinforcements heading south. The Vanian troops only manage to head 40km into Ecuador, taking heavy casualties the entire time. 80 MkI Tanks were sent into the field to help with the engagement. They were a wonderful success, however several were lost to the jungle. This is one soldiers description of this wonderful new fighting weapon, the Mk I.

((ooc: 4th-9th companies))

James Viendio, Sargeant 4th Company
"We were under heavy fire from the Ecuadorian men. We had been marching towards RioBamba, and out of no where, there was the crack of gunfire, men all around me fell from the hot lead. I, along with the rest of my company dropped to the ground in Prone position, and began firing our FN-49's. They began to charge our positions with bayonets fixed. We easily repelled them with mass gunfire. By this point, we had our MG-34s set up and firing into their lines, but it seemed like they had hundreds of thousands of men, it was hopeless. Then there was this huge Rumble infront of our lines, and to the east. Dozens of Armoured monstrosities came pouring through the treeline, their Vickers .303's blazing. They drove right into their lines, breaking them in an instant. I ordered to fix bayonets, and we charged, there was little resistance. The enemy force had routed. That was a close day, but I am sure closer are to come."

70% of the Ecuadorian force had been destroyed, with the other 30% routed. 4th-9th Company pressed further into Ecuador closing within 40km of Riobamba when they came under heavy Artillary strikes. Several Fighter-Aircraft have been called up to spot the artillary for counter strikes.

1st Company, having recieved reinforcements in the way of 4000 Men and 24 MkI tanks are now consolidating their position until 4th-9th Companies captured Riobamba.

(Time-line wise.. I've not been using actual dates, because WoS also interacts with the modern world, as does Iansisle.. this would seem to be in the past, but.. I don't know, it's difficult for me to react to it then, because it might change policy already decided a couple of years later, so for now I'm just going to consider it happening at roughly the same time as the wars in north Africa, the Atlantic, and southern Asia, if that's alright (most of those aren't entirely in sync either, I think..))

"..but Colombia's okay?"
"Yes Prime Minister."

Mainwaring of course had little interest in the fate of Colombia for Colombia's sake. Panama, however..

"Do we know anything about Hvan?"
"I'm afraid not very much at all." Deputy PM Wilson replied. "They're something of a dark horse, invading Ecuador all of a sudden."
"I know what they're doing, Wilson, the question is 'why?' If they're so new to the game, who's side are they on?"
"Game, sir?"
"Yes yes, are they working for Jerry? Black-Sheep Sam? Calarca? The Ians? Or is this a private venture? Good heavens man, use your initiative!"
"Initiative, sir?"
"Yes! Do as you're told, Wilson, get Dunn on it!"
"SOW?"
"SOW."

Not long after this conversation, Sir Harold Snoad, Minister for Information, was bound for London on a cramped TBMkI Barrow conversion. Mainwaring would soon be lecturing an indignant Washington on the seriousness of the war, and the genuine importance of those extra units shipping into Canada every day "to take full tactical advantage of those spacious lands in training and co-operative trial and practice". Finally, SOW agents in South America were filtering into Ecuador to keep an eye on the situation.

Since no one knew where WoS stood with regards to Hvan, life in Ecuador -occupied or free- could be, well, lively!

Government and Defence Ministry tried to work out how to present themselves and their reactions to Hvan. There was no great rush -it was assumed that Hvan was relatively backwards, and that even if she did push towards Panama, it would probably take years to get through the difficult lands along the way.

((Finally someone responds! Its fine for the date, have it whenever you want, I wasn't sure of the timeline. Keep in mind, my nation is "on top" of peru. And what happens if i take columbia and panama ;)?))

12 D.520 Diamond Backs screamed through the air above the jungle, swooping in low. They passed over a battery of Artillary, releasing their 200lb bombs causing havok below. 40km away, the artillary barrages stopped, and once more the 4th-9th companies advanced towards Riobamba. By now the city was heavily fortified. They would have to call in their heavy armour.

In Loja, 1st Company was defending against a large counter attack, but they had large amounts of airsupport in the way of the D-520 Diamond backs, strafing enemy units. The 1st company had taken minimal casualties at this point, however the commander considered ordering up the entire 1st Regiment. Once he 4th-9th captured Riobamba, the 1st would move up and occupy Puerto Bolivar, Cuenca, and Guayaquil. With help of course in the way of the 2nd and 3rd Companies, which would be arriving in the Golfo De Guayaquil to land upon the shores and cut off any reinforcements from the north that leaked past Riobamba.

Back in Iquitos:
The 2nd Armoured Company Commander, Juan Perez, recieved the order from the front lines. They were to move out and support the 4th-9th Companies and provide transport for the 10th-12th Companies, thereby bringing in another 2000 fresh troops.

Hvan's new cruiser tank, the HM II. Armed with a 40mm Cannon, it can pack quite the punch. Its armour allows it to carry on under a hail of fire. This weapon will prove to be the lynch in securing victory over Ecuador. Only 48 have been produced so far, all of which in the 2nd Armoured.

Observation of armour akin to Walmington's Cavalry Cruiser MkI (only recently completely withdrawn from service) operating in aggressive Latin American nations' armies will probably cause some unrest in Great Walmington.

Our CCMkIII (ooc:think Covenanter-that-works+6pdr-gun (no, not a Crusader; less road wheels..smaller..)) is meant to be a step above modern European opponents, not merely South Americans!

ooc:Yeah- but would you want to drive that thing up the Andes? Through the Amazon?

ooc: I wouldn't....

Take it from me, my nation has been fighting in the rainforests of the Islandias for almost 3 centuries and we have learned that tank columns do not fare terribly well there. Often our most prized Armored units were destroyed by guerrillas with poor equipment and no artillery or armor of their own. The only reason we have been successful is because we have learned to use the terrain against them...we use heavy air strikes, naval bombardment and coordinated infantry strikes.

If you want to go through the jungle, please take into account the fact that Tanks are so vulnerable in a jungle environment, especially against defending forces.

The prime minister of Calarca was intruiged at this new turn of the war. The king was currently busy so it was up to him to make decisions.

"War in south america? Hmm... put some spies through there, We may need to know more, who are they allied with, can we base troops there for a push on the canal or america? or will they oppose us."

Some hours later messages arrived via encoded radio at the Calarcian embassy in Brazil and things started to move.
14-10-2003, 12:46
((I am well aware of the disadvantages of armour in south america, if you notice I have very low amounts. And jeez Walmington, you must have owned at least one of every tank ever made eh?))

The Siege of Riobamba had begun. Hvan took heavy casualties surrounding the city, but Ecuador had higher. More Ecuadorian forces were streaming in from the north, but were held in check by almost hourly airstrikes and an armoured wall of the HM II. Hvan brought up artillary units and began firing deep into the city causing heavy civillian and military losses. Then, the artillary barrages stopped, and several thousand 'Vanian troops entered the city along with armoured support. It wouldn't be long before the city fell.
14-10-2003, 20:56
The Hvan flag was raised above the City hall of Riobamba, victory secured. Hvan had recieved 45% Casualties taking the city, losing roughly 1,500 men to the assault, and almost every other soldier wounded. It was a vicious battle with alot of close in combats, soldiers had to resort to their bayonets. The 2nd Armoured Company however, prevented any influx of reinforcements and supplies to the City, which fell within a week. With this accompishment a further 20,000 men will be moved up to Riobamba to begin the push to Quito, the Ecuadorian Capital. Mean while, down in Loja, the 1st Company (roughly 2500 Men now) supported by the 3rd Armour Division moved up towards Puerto Bolivar, the armored division forced to move along the roads. The column was subject to frequent guerilla attacks, lossing three tanks completely and 2 damaged. However, the guerilla resistance was loosening up, as the Ecuadorians attempted to back pettle to Peurto Bolivar. This is when the 2nd and 3rd Companies made their move, landing on the Shores of Machala, storming the city. Losses were high as Machine gun nests mowed down the 'Vanian infantry. Several wings of D.520's took care of these defences, allowing the 2nd and 3rd to take Machala in a matter of hours. The stage was now set to take the Port of Puerto Bolivar, thereby extending Hvan's naval reach, which had been virtually non existant so far. The only naval vessels used so far were the landings ships, 1 Armoured Cruiser, and 3 Destroyers to escort them. This conflict so far has shown the weakness of the MkI tank. Plans have been laid down for a more sturdier machine, as well as propsitions to tank development companies, specifically CKD of Czechoslovakia. The design had to have suspension capable of combat in the terrains of south america, and should be able to fight well in close in battles.

Prime Minister's Office ; #2 Jameston Place
Ianapalis, Iansisle, the Commonwealth

As usual, the last place news of developments on the war front reached was Ianapalis. Dhawan sighed as he read through Lord MacIntyre's report - which was several days old by the time he received it - on Hvan's march through Ecuador. Instability in South America was a concern, certainly, but not a major one. The canal, with America's begrudging acceptance, was certainly a major conduit for Iansislean and Calarcan aid bound for Walmington, but most Iansislean troops were being reassigned to the crumbling front in Gallaga, anyhow. And, should absolute worst come to absolute worst, Iansisle would be able to rush a rapid-deploy division to Panama probably before Hvanese troops could reach Cali in the harsh terrain.

Dhawan filed the old report on a corner of his desk and returned to the plans for aiding the Company, his primary aim of the war. Certainly, continued Company administration of the subcontinent wasn't desirable, but the devil you knew was better than the one you didn't.

The Walmingtonian O/TmkI Acorn, which is less than entirely at home in western South America, as several of the very highest Andean mountains infringe upon its maximum ceiling.

The landing in Hvan revieled six Walmingtonian men of position. The government officials had been instructed to let the company representatives go quite far in their offers. Getting this little nowhere land on-side seemed baffling in its apparent importance to Great Walmington, but Ambassador Cuthbert Haynes (due to be transfered from Santiago to Lima as soon as possible) had his instructions.

The party awaited contact by the proper authorities.

Several armed guards arrived in a very fancy car, escorted by two military jeeps. Once they arrived at their destination, they were lead into a large office, the office of the forign affairs minister.
"Ah, hello Gentlemen. First off I'd like to thank you for your time, however Im sure it will not be wasted here. Lemme get down to the point" *Minister snaps his fingers and an aide comes in with a briefcase, opening it to reveal a dozen gold bars*
"We have a very good gold mining industry here in Hvan, if you don't want gold, thats ok. We mine several metals in the Andes mountains. Im sure you would find these very... usefull. Also given our location, and once we finish our... liberation of Ecuador, we will have quite the influence navely in the area. I you wanted we could say... blockade the Panama Canal and prevent anyone from passing through it. But that all depends..." The minister left this hanging in the air for the representatives to answer.

As news of Walmington's interests in South America find there way through the back channels and dark allies of the diplomatic world reaches Ercolanan High Command the news is received rather slowly, but processed quickly. Suprisingly fast, a report is written up and left on the desk of the Ercolanan AIS (Agenzia Internazionale di Spionaggio) commander, General D'errico. He was early to work that day, as often was the case, and soon had finished reading through the report several times. He knew what had to be done....

Operation: Contro Commerciante was in action 58 hours later. Soon plans were drawn up to supply the South American powers to be with supplies and weaponry...in the hopes of preventing a Walmington influenced nation of gaining a stranglehold on the continent.

Five of the Walmingtonians, all reasonably small framed, were decked out in typical black suits with bowler hats to top them off. One, however, a Mr.Rain of Stockley Motors, wore a white suit.. topped off with a queer looking white bowler. It must have given a false impression of him as the single head of the party, as the Vanian Foreign Affairs Minister seemed to be addressing most of his words in Rain's direction.

Several eyebrows were raised with the display of gold.

Barely had Rain opened his smiling mouth to speak when one of the government men over his shoulder piped up.

"Of course we quite understand your obvious desire to re-unite Gran Colombia after a century of disorder. A perfectly reasonable desire. It would only be proper that our empire and a restored South American power clear up any potential differences ahead of time."

Ambassador Haynes stepped forward, introducing himself again. (ooc:I've just noticed that all of my featured ambassadors have given names which begin with C, excepting for the one who's surname does. This fascination with alliteration is starting to bother me)

"Of course you realise that interfering with the Panama Canal would probably enrage the Americans, as well as causing problems with any number of other world powers. Axis powers.." Haynes trailed off, now he watched the Vanian's face, seeking a telling reaction to the mentions of the States and the Axis powers.
15-10-2003, 01:57
The man showed worry at the mention of the US, however only comtempt for the Axis. They had done nothing to gain any favour with Hvan.
"I see. Well, in the forethcoming months and years, we hope to take Columbia as well. That fight could be difficult. We did want to gain control over the Panama canal, but if this... 'Displeases' the US, then we will not put that plan into fruitition. Anyways, show me some armour eh?"
Walmington on Sea
15-10-2003, 02:47
(ooc:Sorry this came out so long-winded!)

Haynes was somewhat surprised to be told of Hvan's apparent intention to invade Colombia. Though he'd been probing the issue he hadn't really expected them to trust him with the information. Was this genuine trust in the hope of friendship? A trick, the motive of which may not become clear until it was too late? Or mere confiden arrogance? He didn't know enough about the Vanian character to be sure, but it seemed genuine.

Should he hint at Walmington's plans for the future of the US? Perhaps best not just yet. We may be able to work safely with these people regardless.

"Armour, eh?" He belatedly replied, giving the company men a glance. "Walmington's production capacity is stretched quite far these days, so exports would I'm told be rather minimal if decided upon. However, the companies represented by these gentlemen have Great Walmington's say-so to go ahead with sale of production data and vital machine tools and bits."

Haynes allowed Mr.Rain to talk. Much of Stockley was still government owned, as the early stagest of take-over talks with unnamed Iansislian company were cut short by the war. As such Rain was quite close to the government line, as was the Chasshire Arms rep. The Wychwood Automation fellow was a bit of an unknown element, but then his company delt mainly with trams, ships, and planes, and not with tanks.

"Well sir, Walmington does have quite a history when it comes to armour. Like many of our neighbours to the east the nation was caught up somewhat in the tankette craze a few years ago, and from there the Cavalry Cruiser line emerged as a sane alternative.

"From what I know of Vanian armour, your 'fleet' somewhat resembles a slightly scaled down Walmingtonian affair of just a few years since. I expect most of what we consider obsolete you too deem at least obsolescent. I've heard a rumor that you plan to withdraw your Mark I tank?

"Walmington's CCMkII was the next step for us after a similar decision back home. That tank still serves in the empire, as well as with Iansisle. Its main improvement was in the powerful 345hp engine and the improved suspension- a top speed of near 30mph is attained even with a regulator..removal of which, though not reccomended, produces frightening speeds.

CCMkII-

http://www.wwiivehicles.com/images/britain/cruiser_mkiv_01.jpg

"This tank is admittedly not quite up to par against the latest Asian or German designs, but it is reportedly making a good show of itself against Italian tankettes in Libya, and I'd be surprised if your South American neighbours can out-gun the Italians by much! There's the added advantage of availability. As the tanks is slowly being phased out of service, units are being shipped off to Iansisle and in tiny numbers to The Trucial States. There's no reason a friendly Hvan couldn't get in on that. Removal of the machinegun turrets makes production a lot easier, too!

"Now, as for Marching Tanks- you may have heard of them as Infantry Tanks in other armies.. the MkI Turtle served us well in the last Iansislian civil war, but again the tank may struggle against powerful armies such as those of Germany of Hainan. However, the armour makes it almost invulnerable to anything but the biggest anti-tank weapons. Again, it is already available in large numbers.

"A fairly small, stable tank, I would think well suited to jungle and highland warfare. An ambush on a mountain pass? Ha! Anti-tank rifles? Grenades? The Turtle carries on regardless! Long-barrel gun caught in branches in the jungle? Unlikely!"

Rain stopped for breath.

"Now, I am told that these vehicles could be supplied in the dozens, and production data handed over, assuming good relations with Hvan can be relied upon. I do not want to patronise you, however, and recognise that you may have loftier aims. There are other more modern vehicles at our disposal, but it would be impossible to supply them freely. The government feels that the tanks showed to you so far would be enough to secure regional dominance. As a result, our companies are expected to seek significant compensation should you desire production data for more advanced machines. Of course even if you seek to acquire these rights and plans, you may still take early mark tanks as a stop gap.

"Shall I go on?" He asked, hopefully.
15-10-2003, 02:53
Yes please do go on, your first tank, the CCMkII interests us greatly, the marching tank, however not so much. For your more "Advanced" tanks, we would be willing to ship say... 200 Bars of gold a month? If you would like more well... wait until Ecuador is annexed, then we can produce more gold.

ic:The Walmingtonians all seemed to have supposed they were hearing talk of London Good Delivery Bars or equivalent, since that was what the big-shot businessmen and government agents were used to dealing in. They wondered if they were looking at..what? Six million Walmingtonian pounds per month? Yes, that..that would be acceptable! [swallowing hard]

Haynes indicated for Rain to go on, and he promptly obliged.

"I'm assuming that you can produce your own armoured cars, and so will skip over the Spotter Gun Car MkIII Peregrine (ooc:which looks French; let no one accuse WoS of shirking diversity!), but feel free to call me back on it..

"Now, I am uncertain if your rejection of the Turtle is specific to that design, or a disavowal of Marching Tanks as a whole..I will offer for your consideration the MTMkII Terrapin. This relatively new vehicle seems totally superior to all before her in early engagements in Libya.”

He handed over another sheet of paper on which the basic specifications were printed, and to which an artist’s impression was attached.

“Further, we have specialist modifications of the CCMkII. Longer hulls and new turrets with alternate armament. The CCMkIIAAS Sentinel is meant to provide some sort of air defence for advanced units, which may be operating as close to enemy air space as to allied. The Sentinel is specified almost as the CCMkII, excepting that its armament is in the form of two 20mm rapid-fire cannon. Also a formidable weapon against infantry formations, as I’m sure you can imagine!

the minister nodded. "Could we get production plans to each? we will of course continue shipment of supplies. Consider us an ally. If you need foodstuffs, just ask. We will send the supplies via our U151 class, and escort them with our Type VIIB Boats, but they will only be able to travel half the distance, so we would require any cover support from Walmington. So we are in agreement gentlemen?"

The first naval conflict occured this week Between Hvan and Ecuador. A Cruiser Squadron escorted by 5 Destroyers had set out to bombard the City of Manta along the coast. The Vanian army had been making great progress so far, with almost 80,000 Men commited to the fighting. Casualties have reached upto 4000 dead, innumerable wounded. The 'Vanian army had takan the cities and regions upto Riobamba. This includes the cities of: Loja, Puerto Bolivar, Cuenca, Guayaquil (heavy fighting here), La Libertad, and Riobamba. 'Vanian forces now approached the 4 cities surrounding the city of Quito, the capital. Portoviejo, Ambato, Puyo, and Manta. Puyo has been recieving heavy Artillary bombardments from 'Vanian forces in Riobamba causing heavy casualties upon Ecuador. Ecuador has been expecting an infantry attack into Ambato and Puyo as they are closest in proximiety to Riobamba. Hvan thinks otherwise. An armoured assault along a paved road leading from Guayaquil to Portoviejo would theortically break through this last ditch defence in cities and open a route to the capital. Once the capital fell, Hvan would have no need to worry about the remainding cities. In order to prevent Manta from supporting or preventing a counter assault against the armoured force, Massive air bombardments have been taking place destroying any military presence in the city. Recently a Cruiser Squadron was dispatched along with 5 Destroyers with 2 U-Boats waiting further off the coast to provide support. As the Cruisers began their bombardment of the city Several Ecuadorian ships attempted to attack the cruisers and sunk 1 destroyer and damaged another. The cruisers sustained no damage, but in the counter salvos destroyed 3 Destroyers and damaged a Cruiser. The attacking vessels had attacked with 1 Cruiser and 4 Destroyers. The Ecuadorian ships effectivly disengaged and fled the area, however, their movements, greatly slowed by the crippled Cruiser, were monitered by Sea Planes. The two U-Boats closed in on the targets releasing salvoes close range into the destroyer first, eliminating it in a spectacular explosion. The Crippled Cruiser attempted to flee, however it was easily caught, and lacking any Submarine defence, was an easy target for the two U-boats. It was obvious had the Ecuadorian ships been better operated they would have inflicted heavier casualties on the 'Vanian Navy.
OOC: Man this post was all over the place, but do I care? NO!

Type 40 or the IT-40 - Infantry Tank incorporated into 2nd-4th Armoured Companies

Deals delayed as consulate investigates Vanian/Hainani links

Shipment of Cavalry Cruiser tanks to Hvan has been delayed in light of that nation's questionable 'loyalties', said The Standard to-day. The announcement follows word of an arms deal between Hvan and the rogue state of Hainan, which just months ago was blamed for the sinking of HMWS Ajax in the South China Sea.

Documents related to the production details of several Walmingtonian armoured vehicles are said to have made it so far as the WoS consulate in Santiago, Chile, but these too have been 'frozen'.

The fact that this story receives less than half a page mid-way through The Standard, and is ignored by several other papers perhaps indicates the level of seriousness with which Great Walmington regards the "little front" as the war in South America has been unofficially dubbed.

It is unclear how extensive will be Walmingtonian efforts to resolve this latest point of contention. All signs point to a shrug of indifference in the face of further deployments to Canada and north Africa.

Hainan Mockingly Responds to Walmington
Haikou, Hainan- After Walmington called off a deal to sell cruiser tanks to Hvan due to a purchase conducted for Hainanese Engineers (yes those drunkards we sent by ship were our best ones) to help Hvan manufacture early T-34-57's and T-50 infantry tanks. Hvan is a South American country killing right and left and pillaging everything in sight. A war ministry spokesperson was quoted as putting 3 superiorities on Hainanese tanks over Walmingtonian ones: "One: Nobody has any doubts about the superiority of the ZIS-4 high velocity 57mm gun to all Walmingtonian AT guns- the 49mm 6 pdr doesn't come anywhere close. Two: Protection. I don't see sloped armor on the aptly named Turtle or the Cruiser Mk2, do you? Frontal armor protection on the T-34-57 reaches 60mm, with 84mm on the turret. And of course it has sloped armor. Protection of the T-50's well sloped armor reaches 85mm on the turret and 50mm in the front, it is capable of withstanding a hit by any known Walmingtonian anti-tank gun. Finally, sex appeal: No contest here at all"
OOC:
Hvan was mainly looking for tanks with sex appeal on AIM, so I tossed it in.

The armoured attack kicked off after the arrival of the new Hainan tanks. The armoured column attacking Quito, the capital consisted of 46 HM-II Light Tanks, 12 T-34-57's, and 24 T-50 Infantry Tanks. 800 Shock Troopers accompanied the Tanks in Opel trucks which also towed 78mm artillary. About 120km into the offencive (4 hours steady advancement) They met the first line of resistance. A large concrete bunker was built into the side of the mountains. The HMGs in the bunkers immediatly opened fire upon the column. However quick thinking by a T-50 Tank prevented any major casualties. He Parked his vehicle in the path of fire, and fired his 76.2mm low velocity gun right into the bunker. The Anti-Personnell Round reaped havok inside the bunker. As the T-50 pulled away, a T-34-57 fired its High Velocity 57mm gun into the face of the bunker. The resulting impact collapsed the opening of the bunker. 40 Men were sent to find the enterence and make sure no one came out. They were ordered not to go into the bunker, as there was no point in wasting their lives.

An hour and a half later, the armoured column finally reached the outskirts of Quito. They set up the Artillary units and began opening fire on the City. The T-50s approached the city, their numerous MGs blanketing every building, window and door with heavy machine gun fire. Where there were heavy resistance, they would use their 76.2 mm guns to destroy the building and move on. There were light casualties, and several T-50s had to be abandoned due to immoblization. Once a T-50 was mobalized, a small portion of the Shock Troopers and HM-II tanks would travel to that area and set up a small perimeter. That would form their new strongholds over the city.

D.520 Planes made frequent flights over Quito, spotting for the Artillary, and dropping their own payloads. 4 D.520s were lost to AA fire.

An emergency meeting was being held inside the octogonal office.

Amongst the arguing men, the commerce minister was the one talking the loudest.

"We need to be able to use the panama canal! Our economy relies so heavily on it that we can't afford to lose access to it! Not under any circumstances!"

Another minister stood up, red starting to show up on his cheeks....

"Are you suggesting reprisals... or even war?"

Everyone in the room started to whisper.... the man continued:

"We will not talk about agressive action, we will talk about diplomacy. I understand that the canal is vital to us but there are ways to solve this peacefully. Let's send a telegram and see what is their response."

Most ministers agreed and the meeting lasted another 10 minutes before all ministers got to work. They mostly talked about what to do if they indeed lost their access to the canal.

(ooc:They've not finished off Ecuador yet, and there's no assurance that they'll ever take Colombia- someone really powerfull might yet decide to step in. Fascist Ercolana exitsts over the Azores.)

Walmington, after its early meeting with the Vanians, was in a position to know that the nation fully intended to invade Colombia once Ecuador was finished.

Attacking Colombia could result in the greatest war in South American history.

By now it was supected that Axis forces must have taken an interest in the continent. No one knew which if any governments had been contacted by the Axis, however. Eyes were narrowed at Buenos Aires .

It was looking quite a mess over there. Now it seemed that the Americans were taking an interest. This sort of thing might convince them to think more seriously about the wars. They could begin to industrialise. That was a direct threat to Walmington and her British and Iansislian allies, if not to the Calarcans too. And they were still horribly unclear about where they stood on Hvan, or even the European theatre.

Walmington arms Uruguay, Bolivia, Chile

As Uruguay has displayed anti-Axis sympathies, and since so much else on the continent is uncertain, not least the intentions of neighbouring Argentina, it has been decided to supply via Walmingtonian Southern Africa small arms, and ex-service aircraft and light armour (yay, run on sentence!).
Bolivia also displays similar leanings, perhaps even more strongly than Uruguay (ooc:Bolivia I believe declared war on the Axis in '43, while most Latin American nations waited until '45.. possibly land-locked Bolivia just felt safer, I dunno). Getting supplies to Bolivia however is not easy, and thus further efforts have been made to co-operate with Chile (which broke relations by '43), and lengthy voyages around the southern tip of the Americas will bring limited supplies to both Chile and Bolivia.

Moderate loans with strict repayment clauses are being negotiated with all three nations.

Further, talks are in progress with Colombia, which may yet recieve the greatest aid of all (Colombia was even quicker to break ties with Germany, Japan, Italy, Vichy, and so on, making several such announcements before America even joined the war, I believe)

Quite how much aid is going to finish up at the bottom of the south Atlantic is anyone's guess.. [shakes fist at Ercolana]

The men sat around the table, all argueing and grumbling. Most were yelling at the Forign Minister for releasing the plans to attack Columbia.
"What if we just start attacking Walmington Ships? That would prevent the armament of Columbia." The minister suggested
"You idiot! We do not want war with Walmington! I would still consider them powerful friends. You are the idiot who mucked this up!" One of the other ministers spat.
"Gentlemen please," The Prime Minister started, "Clearly Walmington shows a threat. We do have Hainan's support. We are not an Axis country however, we are not an allied country either. They seem to think we are in league with Nazis, but we are not. We must inform them of this. However, if Walmington continues supplying our enemies in Columbia, and not such much Bolivia and Uraguay we may have to act. We have been on good terms with Bolivia for some time now. We must act quickly against Columbia before they are armed. However it is to my delight to know, that our new Tanks from Hainan will make short work of anything Walmington gives them. When can we begin?"
"Sir, we can be ready to invade in 2 Months, I would suggest waiting for 3 months, as thats when we will have our own ability to produce the T-50 and T-34-57's. Also our research on High Velocity 82mm guns is underway, expected to be completed in 4 months. We are also in the design phases of our new heavy tank, the T-42-82. We won't be able to get the tank running for roughly a year or so, but this tank will be a excellent machine." The Defence minister droned out.
"Very good, contact me if theres any new information."

In other news: Ecuador signed an Armistance with Hvan today, the deal is that Ecuador's military now belongs to Hvan, as does all of Ecuador's land. It is now effectivly a province of Hvan, but it may keep its own Leadership, and promises of freedom rights will be kept by Hvan.

Operation: Furia de Nettuna

Slowly the ships began to embark from their harbors in Ercolana Proper. Secretly, known only to the dock hands at the weening hours of morning the subs went out to sea. Once they were out in the churning waves of the Atlantic the second phase began and the sub's larger, surface brethren began to depart. At this point it would have been plain to see to even the most casual passerby, and there was no doubt that Allied agents in the port cities knew what was going on, but there was no time for discretion. Gibralter was already being guarded by subs and small patches of surface ships waiting in the atlantic, these ships were certaintly not headin there. Where would these ships be heading? Soon it would apparent, as the atlantic turned into Mare di anima e di metallo, when the merchant ships would make ports in Brazil, with the tanks, assault guns, armored cars, rifles and aircraft parts they carried, when the Allied troops in North Africa found themselves isolated from home, with German and Italian troops bearing on them, and pressure being applied to their coveted Suez Canal.

Hainan and Hvan Sign 'Mutual Defense Pact' (OOC: Read: Alliance)
Haikou, Hainan- Earlier today, the Prime Minister of Hainan, Ivan Dorentsky, announced that aMutual Defense Pact" had been agreed to by Hvan and Hainan. This means Hvan and Hainan will now jointly fight imperialism, such as the armament of rouge, corrupt states by Walmington in an attempt to prevent Hvan from helping to raise their standard of living and free them from their current corrupt, imperialist governments. As part of this deal, Hainan is expected to give around 50 KV-1 "impossible super tanks" to Hvan, where they are expected to shoot up Turtles and Cruisers like no tommorow. Most are armed with the ZIS-4 57mm high velocity gun (it's better than all current 76,2mm guns... your 49mm gun doesn't really compare, Walmington), although some will be "infantry support tanks" armed with a 76,2mm gun and a coaxial 45mm gun. Carrying over 130 rounds of 57mm ammunition and protected by 85mm frontal armor, the KV-1 is arguably the most formidable tank in service anywhere. As it is replaced by the T-220 in Hainanese service, it is expected that more KV's will be sent to Hvan.

Still, someone better hope Walmington doesn't deem Colombia important enough to receive still relatively seceret ITMkIII Tortises, with armour reasonably safe even against long-barrel 75mms (and at the moment we certainly don't..not until the Super Tortoise anyway (I need new tank nomenclature!)))

(Interesting tanks.. reasonably powerful, certainly by non-european standards (were this RL anyway) Still can Cazador I really do near 30mph with such old-fashioned suspension, 60mm armour, and an engine smaller than most of our light cruisers? I suppose at that weight the 50 and 61mm armour must appear only in limited parts of the tank.. it's similar armour to late production Shermans, which weighed over 32,000kg and got the same speed with an engine almost twice as powerful. Still, that said, the EtB I mrq A is only marginally inferior to the CCMkII so you've not really lost much by not getting them off us :( and the CCMkII is the best thing in service with many of our allies. The Pouliotan government is proud to announce the launch of it's first class of boats. The Bubble-Class Corvette.

Bubble-Class Corvette

Weight : 750 tons
Dimensions : 50m long x 8m high x 3m wide
Propulsion : steam engine, 2750 hp, max speed 34 knots
Crew: 60
Sonar: Prototype (classified and unreliable)
Armament: 2 twin .50 caliber mg , 2 twin .30 caliber mg , 2 depth charge rails, 32 depth charges total, 4 torpedos(2 on each side).

http://www.iquebec.ifrance.com/alexis-stuff/corvette.gif

The Bubble-Class Corvette is a small ship, designed to get in and out the fight fast. It's pretty versatile, can act as a light anti-aircraft platform, a close support ship for landing and can be a minor threat to bigger ships with it's 4 torpedoes. It will be used for escorts, coastal defence and as a fast attack boat.
The ship is more at home in shallow waters but is capable of ocean sailing. It must avoid storms at all costs because it can't take winds of more than about 120km/h. It also comes with minimal armor.

A destroyer is also in the design phase. More on that later.

IC:
