The Bisonic Defense Initiatives Agency (BDIA) has announced the development of the BRDM-3 stealthy (as in low IR and low radar signatures) armored recon vehicle. Each comes with 4 Igla-S manportable SAMs and 4 Khrizantema-3 anti-tank guided missiles.

This vehicle has adopted brand new design, and stealth effect can be achieved by coating stealth materials on the surface of vehicle, a paint that has special functions of anti-radar and resistance IR reflection. The body features a decreasing radar reflection for its design of avoiding acute angles as much as possible. Other features include a weight of 27.4 tons, a maximum speed of 95 km per hour, a maximum fuel range of 1000 kg, and a crew of three.
The BRDM-3 equipment and weapon system is based on a mobile high-speed tracked chassis.
The weapon system comprises a fully stabilized 40mm cannon with a 7.62mm co-ax machine gun, two retractable launchers (two ATGM's or small SAM's each), 4 turret-mounted ATGM's and a 30mm automatic grenade launcher (AGS-30). The fire control system ensures simultaneous engagement of two targets, e.g. an armored threat by the ATGW and infantry by the AGS.
The vehicle surveillance equipment is a brand new multi-channel day/night optical electronic suite providing automatic selection and tracking of moving targets, laser and optical range-finding, and automatic long-range transmission of the collected data.
The BRDM-3 is fitted with the 1A5GT fire control system.
The 1A5GT fire control system includes:
- The gunner's 1A43 day fire control system
- A laser range finder
- The driver's TVN-5 infrared night viewer
- A second-generation television sight and automatic thermal target tracker
- An integrated operating system which includes advanced data communications and battle management
- Millimeter wave radar
- Infrared tracking system
The ammunition, fuel, water and rations carried by the vehicle provide for a continuous autonomous vehicle and crew operation without logistic support. Except the ammunition for its main armament the vehicle is capable of carrying additional equipment comprising land mines and special equipment pods.
The vehicle superb agility is provided by a diesel engine, hydromechanical transmission, hydrostatic steering, and a special suspension. The vehicle easily negotiates and natural and artificial obstacles, and is capable of making 10m ramp-jumps. At the same the crew notes a surprisingly low level of load and noise for an armored object. The physical load for the driver is similar to that of a regular car. During the backward motion the can use a rear-view TV-camera.
The vehicle is fitted with a multi-level protection system. The primary protection provisions are speed and manoeuvrability. Then comes reduced radar, infra-red and optical signature. The low visibility in the radar band is provided by a special hull shape and the use of special materials and coating. One of the thermal protection features is the use of passive night vision devices. Another level of protection is ensured by a self-protection and laser-warning suite. As the vehicle is exposed to laser radiation, the crew is notified about it, and smoke flares are fired in the direction of the radiation source. Finally, the armor protection. The crew is protected from 35mm rounds in the frontal arc. The vehicle anti-mine protection is equal to that of the main battle tanks.
