After the launch of the TSP Colony Ship Nautilus 18 months ago, the first transmission was recived with the message of a successful landing. Aside from three small shuttles, the rest of the ship will be disassembled to make parts for key systems such as: Life Support (Untill the Hydroponics Greenhouse can be assembled) Main Enginnering, and Transport systems (The Elevators and the small Monorail system)
The Main purpose of this colony will be mining, as it was discoved that mercury is rich in several minerals that are used in commonly around the Federation. A secondary use of this colony will be Research, which will include how the intense brightness of the sun effects plants (A separate experiement, the Hydroponics are too important to risk) and effects of shortened yearly orbit on sleeping habits. The Head of the Space Program Mark Walzberg issued a press release earlier today:
This is the Proudest Moment of the Space Initiative, our plans have borne fruit, and we now have a place among the great nations through this achievement, If this venture proves successful, we shall proceed to create more colonies on Mercury, and if our experimental Terraforming Theories prove true, we may have a new earth-like planet of our own, thank you very much
*Wipes a tear from his eye*
The Proposed "Terraforming Theories" he reminds, are still in the very early experimental stages, and may not even come to work, and if they do, it could be up to 30 years before the Space Program can make it work on a big enough scale to even think of such a plan.
This has been a NBS announcment
