Talaaxian Catholic Church Stages Coup

11-10-2003, 16:36
Talaaxia, Talaax
Earlier today several large explosions rocked the peaceful city of Talaaxia, all of them in the downtown government district. The explosions were caused by both car bombs and suicide bombers. The largest explosion, a car bomb in revolution plaza, just outside the RAFT Headquarters left 117 people dead and at least 200 more injured. The RAFT building was ripped open on one side by the blast and damages there alone are estimated at over $10 million.
The other explosions occured near the TIS Headquarters and the Presidential Offices. Several members of the TIS Security Battalion were killed and several others injured. At least 20 members of the Presidential staff were also killed or injured.
Immediately following the explosions local television airwaves were hijacked and it was announced that the Talaaxian Catholic Church was now officially calling the people to overthrow the socialist government. Across the country tens of thousands of church supporters poured down to local churches to take up arms for the church. In Talaaxia it is estimated that 10,000 armed church supporters are roaming the streets attacking government and police patrols. The whereabouts of 71 year old President Jean Paris are unknown at this point.
Speech by Acting President R'ev Tensh
Tensh: Comrades, today is a sad day for Talaax. The Talaaxian Catholic Church, an organisation with braod support has started an attempt to overthrow the people's government. They have resorted to acts of terrorism in the capitol. Several thousand of church followers are currently engaged with RAFT and TIS troops in the capitol. Around the nation church supporters have "taken control" of many towns and cities, with some over zealous supporters lynching police officers.
These fanatics are not the majority of the population. We cannot allow them to speak for us. As of now, martial law has been declared and all RAFT reserves are being called into active duty. We will fight these traitors, comrades. This is the last chance for anyone to cease their support of these fanatical traitors.
End Speech
The Talaaxian government hereby requests help in the form of funds and "specialist" teams to help fight these religiously motivated traitors. Regular force troops from other nations are not needed at this time.

"Mr President Sir, we have unconfirmed reports of some Catholics rebelling in Taalax. What should we do?"

"Son we do what we always do in these situations. Nothing"

OOC:Pretty pointless post but im trying to get 1000 bfore the end of the day.

Karlen von Shehënburg, President of Marxist International and its military wing, the International Army of Marx sat at his desk, reading the report. "James, I believe that this is the time for action. I want this message sent to the high command in Talaax immediately." Karlen handed his assistance a message.

We are assembling a military force to assist you in holding on to power. We're going to be sending in some 25,000 troops and 150 M1AX tanks via transport planes. We'll need a spot to land though. Please send us the location of a choice landing spot.
Karlen von Shehënburg, General of the International Army of Marx

The promised forces take off from a small island to the West of Edolia 16 hours later and begin flying towards Talaax.

A private message from the Imperätor Erik von Blätterschplitt of Edolia is sent to Talaaxan high command as well:
At this time, we will not be sending military aid to you. However, we do not wish to see our Socialist brothers fully overthrown and if the situation becomes dire, we will be sending a taskforce to aid you.

As always, Revalia will keep its hands out of foreign wars, but we offer to broker peace talks should both sides wish to negotiate.

OOC: Do you haves names of rebel leaders, organizers, military officers, etc. I need some way to make IC discreet contact.

Moryk looked around.

The interior of the Bear was cramped, especially with the addition of the Merkava Mk IIIs Main Battle Tank sitting in the center, restricting him from talking to Ryanid opposite.

The troops were chatting. Compared to Tadjikistan this should be a cakewalk. Meet up with loyalist troops and take down a religious sect. He clutched his RMAR-18 close. He knew it was the big advantage he had over the weapons which would be adopted over the fanatics. (ooc plug - Get the RMAR-18 here! (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1774683))

Outside the plane, he could see a Tigershark flying in formation, seeming floating on the clouds they were barely above.

"Just in-case they have any Shilkas or similar..." their commander had said. This wasn't a cout d'etat. It was a religious uprising. They wouldn't how to shoot it anyway.

The total force was 2,100 troops and 5 Merkava Mk III Main Battle Tanks. Moyrk thought about this, it seemed an odd choice to include armour in a battle of this type, but he guessed there would be some 'higher' reason for it.The pilots voice cracked over the transport's radio.

"Touchdown soon kiddies! For Socialism!"

The troops shouted back... "For Socialism!"

Moryk breathed a sigh of relief. How could they possibly lose this?

All foreign troops are instructed to land at the RAFT airbase just outside of Talaaxia. We ask, however, that all troop movements be kept under 2,000 personnel. This is both for the safety of our sovreignity and for the safety of your troops, Talaaxians are unfortunetly very xenophobic when it comes to foreign troops. The RAFT currently numbers 7.5 million personnel while the rebels number only around 100,000. We have numerical and technological superiority. What we do need is additional securty personnel in major cities such as Talaaxia and Thorstadt.

OOC: The rebel leader's name is Cardinal Ger'ifara. Basically the entire church heirarchy is in on the plot.
Saturday October 11th, Grand Cathedral of Talaax
Outside the Grand Cathedral troops from the 1st TIS Regiment clashed with rebels based in the Cathedral. Bullets, tear gas, grenades, Molotov cocktails and rocks flew up and down Engels Prospect. As night fell the rebels occupied two three storey buildings adjacent each other, the Grand Cathedral and a four storey building on the corner of Engels Prospect and Ae'tus Avenue. The men from the 1st TIS Regiment occupied several three storey buildings and an assortment of one and two storey buildings. The first day of major fighting in Talaaxia had ended in stalemate. Over night mortars and light artillery were being brought forward along with two platoons of tanks from B Company, 32nd TIS Armoured Battalion. The next day was sure to see major fighting along Engels Prospect.
A few hours before dawn the dull roar of the rebels praying together could be heard all down the street as both sides prepared for more fighting.
Casualties in Talaaxia Alone:
TIS Troops: 57 killed, 123 Wounded out of 3,000 men
Rebels: 72 Killed, 154 Wounded out of 2,500 men
Total Troop Numbers Nation Wide:
RAFT/TIS: 7.5 million with .5 million in reserves being called up
Rebels: 115,000
OOC2: I'll post more when I get home from work. Please only post your troops landing, I'll deploy them where I need them.

We ask, however, that all troop movements be kept under 2,000 personnel.

ooc - Ours is 2,100, want us to recall some?

ic - After landing at the airfield, whilst the officers talked with the Talaaxian personnel, Moryk met up with Ryanid.

"I heard we may have to recall some of our troops" Ryanid told Moryk.

"Really? Damn... so are we moving into the city yet?" Moryk looked doubtful and Ryanid's look confirmed it. They'd have to hold position until the situation was resolved.

Moryk walked up to one of the Coldorran Tanks.

"So presumably they'll be sending these back too?" As he said this one of the crew came up.

"They're sending us back? Goddamn!" The rest of the tank crews heard this and came to investigate. Moryk and Ryanid quickly clarified the situation to them. Half way through explaining, the officers disengaged from their conversation at the other side of the airbase. Moryk was ready for action.

With the new information regarding a single 2,000 personnel, we shall be diverting a majority of our troops back to the main base. Thus, 2,000 of the most elite troops and 150 M1AX Abrams are still en route. They will land tomorrow [RT].
Great Mateo

The government of the Armed Republic of Great Mateo, while an atheist government that does not share the same beliefs as your Catholic church, is familiar with their beliefs and principles. We do not believe the true leaders of this religion would willingly partake in something that would lead to so much bloodshed. Our government urges the government of Talaax to launch an immediate investigation of the possibility of your enemies posing as church leaders, or religious zealots forcing the church leaders to do this.

In terms of security, we have 1500 of our special forces troops standing by if you desire their deployment. They are given extraordinary amounts training in urban combat enviroments, they would probably be a great help in securing buildings\areas where large groups of people must congregate, IE:hospitals and government buildings. These troops are capable of taking out any threat in close quarters combat while minimizing collateral damage to public property and civilians. If deployed, 200 heavily armored HMMWV (Humvees) would accompany them in order to ensure the safety of themselves and others while moving around the area.
12-10-2003, 02:41
OOC: The Talaaxian Catholic Church before this attempt was the strongest non-government run institution in the nation. They were allowed almost unrestricted religious freedom, mostly because 91% of Talaaxians are Catholic. Recently, however, there had been crackdowns on some of the church's freedoms and the church leadership decided that Talaax was deviating from "God's path". They then set this plan in motion in hopes of founding a religious theocracy in Talaax.
As for a map, I don't have a map of Talaax but if someone has the capability to make one I would be glad to collaborate on it.
Reply to Vatican (?) Lazarus-6 Encryption
Your information is correct. We are leading the truly faithful of our flock in a struggle to put Talaax back onto God's path. We hope to install a Christian theocracy. The government has responded somewhat quicker than we thought it would though. If at all possible we would like you to send us weapons and propaganda tools, but do not under estimate the RAFT. They are very well trained and equipped and the TIS Divisions even more so.
End Reply
2,100 is acceptable. Tanks may stay although they would be less useful than infantry. Coldorra, we would like you to deploy your troops in the city of Socialism Tunnels in the southeast of Talaax. Rebel activity has been low in that area so far, but do not let the calm decieve you.
Edolia, we would like you to deploy your infantry in East Thorstadt in the Eastern Thorstadt mountain range. We would like you to use your tanks to liberate Mine Camp 00673, a very important gold mine station. Please ensure that as little equipment is damaged as possible.

Engels Prospect, Talaaxia. Sunday October 12th 6:12 AM
As the rebels continued to pray government mortars and artillery shells began to fall around the Grand Cathedral. Two minutes into the five minute barrage a 120mm howitzer round landed directly on the roof of the Grand Cathedral, knocking two of the four towers onto the street below and burying over 100 rebels under debris. The shock of this destruction immobilized the rebels as the artillery barrage ended and the tanks of the 32nd TIS Armoured Battalion began rolling down the street, tearing up enemy held buildings with their heavy machine guns.
Advancing with the tanks were the men of E Company, 2nd Battalion, 1st TIS Regiment. Using the tanks for cover, the men advanced to the enemy held buildings and fired tear gas and stun grenades through windows. The men stormed the buildings, clearing them room by room. The only building not entered was the Grand Cathedral. The Cathedral was surrounded and loud speakers began to blare demands for surrender.
As the fighting degenerated into a "seige" the casualty count stood at 146 killed, 202 wounded TIS troops and 245 killed, 213 wounded and 56 captured rebel troops. Inside the Grand Cathedral 350 rebel troops held on desperately, hoping for reinforcements from outside.

Elsewhere in Talaax minor skirmishes between rebel troops and RAFT troops claimed the lives of 13 RAFT troops and 28 rebels.

OOC: Sorry this took so long, but I competely forgot about you.

Great Mateo - Your special forces are welcome to be deployed here. We would like you to deploy them to the government district of Talaaxia to provide additional security for the government and reconstruction personnel.

Inside the Grey House security room:

A round table was set up in the center of the darkened room. At the table were the top generals and intelligence officers in Thirtycaliber, along with the President. The only light available was red, so as not to flash-blind the inhabitants. The walls were covered with computers manned with intelligence personnel, searching SIGINT databases and communicating with covert HUMINT assets. Overall, it looked like a scene out of a submarine movie or a Tom Clancy novel. After typing furiously for a few moments, one of the young intelligence staffers shouts from his desk.

"Sir, we have a new message from the rebels in Talaax. It's encrypted in the code we requested. We're descrambling now... here's a printout, sir."

The staffer ran up to the President, and handed him a short stack of papers - perhaps 10 pages - before returning to his computer. The President rose and spoke.

"Well, it looks like the situation in Talaax isn't quite what we thought it was. The rebels want Theocracy, not Democracy. "

One of his generals was quick to reply.
"Still, better that than let the commies run the place."

An intelligence officer offered more unsolicited advice.
"This really only rules out direct intervention. We can still arm them and aid them, as long as nothing can be traced back to us. I'm confident my staff can keep everything absolutely secret."

The general spoke again.
"I suppose it's just as well. We couldn't continue our activities in Nimbata, project power in Talaax, and defend our homes at once in our current situation. "

Finally, the President had a plan.
"Alright. We'll send them another message straightening out the situation. If they're only gunning for theocracy, we'll just arm them. If they're willing to give a go at freedom, we can be a little more helpful. But let's get one thing straight. No press conferences. Nobody hears anything of this."

OOC: I've got to get to sleep now, but I'll post the actual message to the rebels and actions of the gov't IC tomorrow. :D

As the Prime Ministetr of roledex I authorize 700,000 troops to support the tallaxian loyalists. As i helped in their fight for freedom. Great Mateo
12-10-2003, 09:13
The government of Great Mateo condemns Roledex's decision. These "freedom fighters" that they are supporting are not being oppressed, they are merely religious zealots out to shed the blood of innocents in order to take over the government. We wish for the government of Roledex to rethink this decision and retract their forces, at least for the moment. If Roledex DOES deploy forces, Great Matean forces present in Talaax will not engage them, as we are there merely as escorts and security teams. Any acts of aggression against us, or Talaaxian officials\citizens being escorter by us, however, will result in retaliation by the Great Matean military and our regional allies.
12-10-2003, 10:20
(( Is Roledex not supporting Talaaxian loyalists? ))

The Canadian Princes government, having survived terrorist and guerilla attacks, then a brutal civil war, a short period of communism only to be crushed under the heel of an Allied Army, know too well the pains of civil strife. We ask the Talaaxian government to revoke the laws oppressing religion, and loosen it's grip to avoid further bloodshed. However if it continues to attempt to crush it's oppisition, the CP Government will ask it's allies to send weapons and equipment to the rebels, who seek more freedom. We believe a theocracy would lead to a democracy with much less bloodshed then a socialist state
12-10-2003, 10:44
ooc - Should you attack the Coldorran Empire's troops you'll have the entire Marxist Pact (about 20 countries) on your back.

ic - With the Tigersharks already patrolling the city, the Coldorran troops moved up though the city's limits with the tanks rolling behind them.

Moryk trundled alongside one of the Merkava's as he and Ryonid argued about the outcome of the Tadjikistan war.

"We were beating the rebels! We could've held it with international assistance!" he tried to convince Ryanid. His friend expected that and simply replied,

"Our government values peace. They'd be a war if that happened. Whereas if the Coldorran's retreated, there would be no more fighting." After a short pause Moryk conceded,

"I suppose but still... we gave up without much of a fight." As he said the final word one of the Merkava's to his left rocked off the ground and came to the ground with a slam. Immediately troops began to fire into the nearby buildings. Ryanid charged up the lines, obviously he'd spotted who was firing, but Moryk instead dived behind some cover. The Merkava's didn't return fire with their main guns and he could see the one which had been hit earlier pulling back behind the fighting lines.

Suddenly a group of rebels ran out, one clearly armed with an RPG. He dropped to one knee and aimed at him. He didn't have time to aim for his head, so he hoped for the best. He fell to the ground. Success! Suddenly a torrent of fire came his way. He ducked back behind his cover only to hear the sound of a 120-mm gun blast next to him. He covered his ears and jumped, just enough to see a huge crater where the rebels had been. Firing resumed but within 10 minutes the rebels had retreated deep into the city. The troops reorganised. Initial casulty reports suggested twenty Coldorran troops had been lost and about a hundred men were lost for the rebels. They proceeded into the city.

ooc - you can take over the rebels from here
12-10-2003, 16:36
OOC: Once again, to correct some errors. Talaax is a Socialist Democracy. We have a democratic system. The Talaaxian Catholic Church was relatively unoppressed because 91% of Talaaxians are Catholic. Recently though the Church had been taking up a more and more anti-government stance and this led to some crackdowns. Thinking we were plotting the destruction of the Church they decided to take action. That's all the history you should need.
IC:
Socialism Tunnels, Impromptu Rebel Headquarters
Bishop Me'cervi sat with his "officers" at a round table in a small two storey house in the suburbs of Socialism Tunnels. Coldorran troops had moved into the central city and were taking up positions around banks, hospitals and government offices. The Bishop would not stand for foreign intervention. These foreigners would be treated no better than Talaaxian troops. At the meeting it was decided that the Coldorran troops guarding the general hospital would be the first to pay for their intervention. They would get a first hand look at the rebel fanaticisim...
Rebel Safehouse near S.T. General Hospital
Orwell looked up at the two men above him, a look of nervousness on his face. He was beginning to regret volunteering for this. But it was too late, one of the men was in the process of strapping a bomb to Orwell and giving him his last rites while the other one was sharpening a mean looking scimitar.
After the bomb was in place Orwell was told to put on his overcoat and place his left arm on the table infront of him. Doing what he was told Orwell tossed the over coat on and did it up and reluctantly placed his arm on the table. The man with the scimitar stepped forward and Orwell looked away, mumbling a silent prayer. The man with the scimitar raised it high over his head then slammed it down halfway between Orwell's wrist and elbow. The scimitar cut cleanly through Orwell's arm. Immediately Orwell was pushed out the door with a shout of "Go With God".
Bleeding heavily and nervous as hell, Orwell stumbled down the street to the Coldorran checkpoint near the hospital. He stumbled up to the soldiers there, detonator hidden in his right hand and mumbled "Help me please...".
OOC2: Ok, now just RP your soldier's reaction to Orwell stumbling up with half his arm missing.
12-10-2003, 16:43
Moryk looked out of the window of the hospital. He felt quite lonely without Ryanid and the rest of the unit. They'd been seperated throughout the city but the logic was that they protected all the important areas of the city.

Below he could see a man obviously bleeding and in distress. The man made his way to the checkpoint. Moryk watched the soldiers immediately call along a doctor. The soldier whom he recognised as the group's translator talked to him quickly until a team of doctors arrived. The man was placed on a strecher, a blanket tossed atop him, and was taken into the building opposite Moryk.

Moryk sat down on a nearby seat and reached for a magazine to read.
12-10-2003, 16:54
Orwell let the doctors bring him inside. Once inside the emergency room he looked around and saw foreign soldiers there too. About to pass out, he shouted "Glory to God!" and flipped the detonator switch. Immediately the almost 50 pounds of plastic explosive strapped to his torso detonated. The explosion rocked the city for a kilometre in every direction and tore through the ER. Outside the building a large fireball exploded out the doors, followed by debris an most of the wall for the first two floors of the building. The entire area was covered in a thick viel of dust and smoke as the hospital building burned and pieces of the outer wall and floors above the ER continued to fall.
OOC: Ok, just to recap. The explosion seriously compromised the building's structural integrity. It ripped apart most of the ground floor and half of the next two floors above it. The next 8 floors ( it has ten floors ) suffered damage ranging from collapsed stair cases and cielings to fires.
12-10-2003, 17:34
The explosion sent debris flying in every direction, including straight through the window opposite Moryk. He jumped up and grabbed his RMAR-18 off the desk. He could hear screaming coming from all around. He looked out of the window and saw the decimated building.

Immediately troops began to surround the building, ushering civilians out of the building and setting a perimeter to control the populace. It quickly became apparent to Moryk that the civilians outlining the building saw the troops as their enemies and there was a huge riot in progress.

Moryk launched himself down the stairs, weapon in hand, listening to the distance sound of emergency services approaching the building. Downstairs the building was empty but he could see people scrambling outside the door. He stepped outside and ran to the perimeter line...

ooc - don't really know where to go from here. up to you.
Great Mateo
12-10-2003, 17:45
Great Mateo would like to retract it's previous statement. It was very late when our leader wrote that, and he misread the statement from Roledex ^_^
12-10-2003, 17:58
The civilians around the hospital mostly ran away from the explosion. The patients in the hospital all listened to instructions from the Coldorran troops but a small group of about 100 citizens became restless and began to take it out on the Coldorran troops.
It started mostly with shouting, insults and taunts but quickly escalated to throwing rocks and bottles. The 100 odd men and women began to rain rocks and bottles down on the Coldorran troops. For about five minutes this situation continued until two Talaaxian Police squad cars rounded the corner and arrived on scene. Upon seeing their own police force show up and tell them to return home, the citizens calmed down and began leaving.
Engels Prospect - Seige of Grand Cathedral
The men of the 1st TIS Regiment continued to surround the rebels in the Grand Cathedral. For two days now the rebels had held out and the TIS commanders refused to commit their troops to an assault. One the fourth day of the seige it was decided to simply reduce the building to rubble and take prisoner any survivors.
That night several 155mm howitzers were brought up right into the street around the Cathedral. At dawn the 155's opened fire. Within 30 minutes the building was almost completely reduced and the 155's stopped firing. The TIS troops then picked through the rubble, taking survivor's prisoner and attempting to identify the dead. By noon the battle for Engels Prospect was over. The 7 day long urban battle had claimed the lives of 345 TIS men and 4,115 rebels. Several buildings were destroyed along with the Grand Cathedral and damages to the city from this battle along were estimated at over $2 billion.
Immediately after rounding up the last of their prisoners, the 1st TIS Regiment and 32nd TIS Armoured Battalion set out for Talaaxia's Northern suburbs where they would meet up with the RAFT 1st Infantry Division to clear out the suburbs house by house. Most civilians have already been moved out of the suburbs to refugee camps outside the city.

--MESSAGE BEGIN--

After synthesizing and analyzing all the information available to us at this time,we have determined that we can, at this time, give you limited support in the form of arms, propaganda tools, and ammunition. We need from you a point, preferably on the coast or in a lightly defended area, where we can deliver material to you without it being intercepted. Once you supply us with such a point, an initial delivery will be made of the following:

-15,000 newly manufactured AK-47 rifles
-4,500,000 rounds of BM ammunition (300 rounds per rifle, or about 10 magazines). *
-15,000 APII (Anti-personnel incendiary, improved) grenades.**
-15 high-speed 'prop factories' ***

If you are able to meet all or some criterion of ours, we can offer increased aid up to the following:

-As many new AK-47's as needed
-5,000 FN-FAL rifles****
-As much BM ammunition for the above as necessary
-As many APII grenades as necessary
-as many M72's as necessary*****
-as many Stingers as necessary******
-as many 'prop factories' as necessary
-covert operatives to train your troops

In order to qualify for increased aid, you would have to do all or some of the following:

a) Guarantee some level of freedoms or democracy in your new state
b) Restrain operations such that you don't purposefully target non-combatants
c) Use the provided propaganda tools to garner popular support
d) Allow the market to operate relatively freely in your new state (i.e. do not base your new economy on a socialist model. This is not to say you wouldn't ban immoral trades, that's just fine.)
e) Use more suitable ambush and unconventional warfare tactics to maximize your assets. We would prefer to support a cause that can use our tools well for a positive kill ratio, or at least nearly so.

Depending on whether or not you don any of these, and if so how many you do, we will increase our aid to include some/all of the items from the second list. Even if you can or will not do any of these, we will still provide the support from the first list.

NOTES: *BM, or blended metal, ammunition is much more destructive than regular ammunition. In a high-powered caliber (7.62x51mm NATO, .270 cal, .30-'06, etc.), this will penetrate Kevlar armor plus steel or ceramic trauma plates at 700+ yards, or anything else that is cold (steel up to 2.2", 14" concrete, 42" oak or other hardwood). If it hits a warm object, even after this penetration, it will then expand violently, leaving an exit wound up to 11 times the original projectile diameter. In a lower-powered caliber, such as the 7.62x39mm of the AK-47, BM ammunition will still penetrate Kevlar+trauma plates and cause violent body damage within about 250 yards. Steel penetration in this caliber is limited to about 1", concrete to about 6", hardwood about 12". Still, this is much more effective than standard ammunition due to the almost explosive expansion at the listed range.
** APII grenades are similar in fusing and operation to normal grenades, save that, in addition to exploding and spewing shrapnel, they also spew burning napalm in a 10' radius. Thus, they are about the size of a beer bottle, in the customary "pineapple" grenade shape.
*** A 'propaganda factory' is a truck about the size as a Ryder truck or moving van. Inside, there is a high-speed printing press hooked up to a computer with graphic design software. Up to 10,000 leaflets can be printed per hour per van. Also included with each 'factory' are 2 mortars, and special shells that are filled with leaflets and will airburst at a pre-set altitude, scattering propaganda leaflets in a wide area.
**** The FN-FAL is a reliable, accurate rifle in 7.62x51mm NATO caliber. See item #1 for BM ammunition in this caliber.
***** The M72 is a single-shot anti-tank or anti-personnel rocket launcher, with a maximum effective range of 500 yards.

OOC:Is slaughtering good church going people that want reforms really the answer? I think you should negotiate before jumping to the 'help rebels are killing me and i want every nation in the world to help kill the catholics' solution. Please, these people are rebelling for a reason id bet, rather than just mindless bloodshed. Just try negotiations before pouring into cities with armed soldiers with a taste for blood.
13-10-2003, 03:22
OOC: This is part of a string of planned and semi-planned RPs. The foreign troops are here mostly to provide security so my government forces can be freed up to fight the rebels. This whole rebellion has a point behind it, it's not just something to kill time over.
They are rebelling for a reason. That reason has been stated three or four times in this thread. We are not attacking ALL Catholics, only those that have taken up arms. Also as stated before, there had been a break down of communication between the government and the church over the past few months and was one of the causes of this rebellion.
13-10-2003, 04:49
OOC: Talaax, are the rebs going to respond to the message? Without a drop point, there's not really much I can do IC besides send more messages...
13-10-2003, 15:19
OOC: Yes, sorry. That last post distracted me.
IC:
Response to Vatican Encryption Lazarus-6
Your weapons and propaganda tools are most welcome. Unfortunetly there are very few areas of Talaax that are lightly guarded right now. We believe however that you could get the AK-47s over our Eastern border into the Thorstadt Mountains. This area is the most lightly guarded sector of Talaax. Your best route is to travel along the old mining trail that crosses the border at coord's 49, 90. We will have our men meet you ten kilometres inside Talaax. We look forward to this shipment. May God be with you.[/i]
Secret IC: HQ Thorstadt Military District
Comm Officer: Sir! I'm intercepting a teletype signal coming from inside Talaax. I can't pinpoint it's origin but it is travelling towards the Vatican.
Duty Officer: The rebels! How much of it do we have?
Comm Officer: The whole thing sir, it's encrypted though. The boys down in decrypt should be able to translate it. Give me a couple of hours and I should be able to intercept the response.
Duty Officer: Very well, make it happen. I'll take this down to the boys in decrypt.
Comm Officer: Yes, sir!
Two hours later
Decrypter: We've run it through all the programs sir. It's heavily encrypted. We only managed to get half of it. Apparently something will be crossing the border soon at coordinates 49, 90. Could be weapons, could be troops.
General: Alright, good work. *Turns to a Division Commander* Colonel, haveyour men take up ambush positions there. Infantry and light tanks only. And make sure they can't be seen!
Colonel: Yes, sir!
Within five hours the men are in position along the mining trail. A company of infantry and a squad of special forces troops. With them, hidden by trees removed from the surrounding landscape are four T-72M tanks. The men sir back and wait for whatever comes down that trail.

Reply from Acting President R'ev Tensh
Your help would be most appreciated. If you could send a small contingent of troops, no more than a regiment, to provide security for vital areas to free up Talaaxian troops we would be most grateful. We need foreign troops to provide security so our troops can be freed up to destroy the rebels.

OOC: Just so you know, most of the government is Catholic. The rebellion is being led and fought be fanatical Catholics. The religious break-down in Talaax is:
Catholic: 91%
Muslim: 7%
Buddhist: 2%
13-10-2003, 15:58
What is the size of one of your regiments?

OOC: Just to let you know, most of our government is Atheist. Over 80% of the population is.
13-10-2003, 16:01
Our regiments are generally about 3,000 men.
13-10-2003, 16:20
We will ship 2000 Kaiserheer by sea.

Government District, Talaaxia
The rescue workers cleaning up the rubble from the terrorist bombings made a gruesome discovery earlier today. While digging through the rubble of the Presidential Offices, Rescue Team 23 stumbled across the corpse of (now) former president Jean Paris. Apparently the 71 year old leader of Talaax was killed in the blast that destroyed a large part of the 14 storey building.
Paris, a young farm boy from Western Talaax, was like most other boys of his age. It wasn't until the seizure of power by Dictator K'hal Garek that the revolutionary side of Paris began to show through. While going through law school Paris was highly involved in student movements and was arrested three times for anti-government activity.
After graduating from law school Paris began to plot the revolution that would forever change Talaax. At age 27, he and a group of 90 other guerrillas, including the late General Ernesto Ge'VeraH, attacked a government outpost in the Thorstadt Mountains.
The attack sparked a three year long struggle for independance, culminating in the flight of Garek and the rebel take over. Immediately Paris and his interim government set about reforming Talaax. Reforms included agrarian reform, the renaming of K'hal Square to Revolution Plaza and the renaming of Gareka to Talaaxia.
A year after their victory the rebels held nation wide elections and Paris and the socialists were elected into power. Since that time Paris had led Talaax through many difficulties, such as the Attican War and subsequent occupation. He will be remembered as a Hero of the Revolution and Talaax's greatest leader.
Talaaxia's Northern Suburbs
The men of the 1st TIS Regiment arrived in the Northern Suburbs today and immediately set up shop in the Eastern side. The 1st RAFT Infantry Division arrived a day later and plans were formulated for the systematic cleansing of the suburbs. The operation would start the next day and would have men from both units doing door to door searches of the houses. The operation is expected to last five days.
13-10-2003, 17:43
Along with the Kaiserheer troops and the number of logistics officers are 4 politicians.
13-10-2003, 17:47
What are the names of these politicians and what is their purpose for coming to Talaax? If they are discovered to be intelligence agents of any kind they will be killed. The punishment in Talaax for espionage is death.
13-10-2003, 17:48
Moryk cursed and cursed again. They were fighting alongside Attican troops! What was the world coming to! A couple of the boys entertained 'friendly fire' incidents but no one really took it seriously.

The rebels hadn't made a sound since the hospital bombing and things were beginning to get dull. There was talk among the troops that they might be making active raids against rebel positions but until then it was just a case of wait and see.

Comrades of Talaax,

Long have we remembered your generous aid to us when we first started as a socialist nation, and we hope, although we have lessened our communicaton with Talaax, the bonds between us are still as strong. Unfortunately, we would not be able to aid you in the same way you aided us, with military support. Because of our extremely pacifist stance, we have a skeleton military, as little as possible. The most we could give you is the RAFT officers you gave to us for troop training, our deepest sympathies on this troubling time for your nation, and our deppest support for your cause, the cause of socialism.

We apologise for the fact that we cannot do much more.

Council Leader Alan Sharkey.

Those are only two names, we require all of their names and the purpose of their trip to Talaax.

Socialism Tunnels, 10th Floor of City Hotel
Father Y'evnij entered his room and looked around contentedly. The room was small, as are most hotel rooms in Talaax. But size wasn't why this room was chosen. It was chosen because the window overlooked a Coldorran garrison/checkpoint. About 300 meters away, Coldorran soldiers milled about in their daily routine.
The Father walked to the window and opened it up only about 2 and a half inches. He then set his suitcase down on the bed next to him and opened it. Inside was a broken down SVD Sniper Rifle, three twenty round clips of ammunition and a laser range finder. The "good" Father immediately set about assembling the rifle. Once the rifle was assembled and loaded, Y'evnij pulled a chair up to the window then walked over to the door and locked it. As he walked over to the window he wrapped his rosary around the scope.
He sat down in the chair and placed the end of the barrel out the crack between the window and the window frame. He took a distance meaurement on one of the Coldorran soldiers downrange - an officer by the look of him - and adjusted his scope. Y'evnij waited until the man stopped moving and fired a single round downrange.
13-10-2003, 18:01
Karl von Rumpstadt, Simon von Jaegermeister, Erik von Klapton, und Isaak aus Atisca. They asked to go on their own accord - the government did not contest.
13-10-2003, 18:02
We thank the people of The Weegies for their support. Your moral support is enough to keep us fighting. May our friendship live on.
Thank you Attica.
13-10-2003, 18:06
The Attican transport ship arrives in Talaaxian port.
13-10-2003, 18:13
Attica - We would like you to deploy your troops to the Western farming areas of Talaax. This area provides much of our agricultural products and is vital to that sector of our economy. The area is populated by scattered towns. We will send a division of RAFT troops to the area to aid you in clearing out the towns of rebel presence shortly.
13-10-2003, 18:14
Ok.

The troops disembark, and head to the western areas of Talaax.

The politicans disambark and head to the Talaaxian capitol.

OOC: What is your nat'l language?
13-10-2003, 18:15
We have two. The government uses English and so does most of the nation, but Talaaxian is used by many of the non-urban people.
13-10-2003, 18:17
OOC: What language group does it belong to? Germanic, Romance, Celtic, Slavic, Hellenic, Arabic, Afrikan, etc.
13-10-2003, 18:18
Talaaxian is sort of a mix between Arabic, Celtic and Slavic. It doesn't fit into any one category. I don't really use it very often except for names.
13-10-2003, 18:24
Would they understand German?
13-10-2003, 18:30
They can get a translator if your politicians can't speak English.
13-10-2003, 18:31
Oh, they can. They prefer German.

2 of the Politicians head to the Talaaxian capitol to sign up for a permit to construct a business called the 'Tory Party', and the other two head to the capitol to increase their standings with local politicans.
13-10-2003, 18:37
What is the purpose of this "Tory Party"? You must understand that at this time we are a bit distrusting of foreigners in Talaax. And you must also understand that there are almost no private businesses in Talaax, we have laws strictly regulating private business.
13-10-2003, 18:40
Ok, 'Political Party'.
13-10-2003, 18:43
Then I'm afraid you're looking for a non-existant permit. Talaax runs on a no party system. Political parties do not exist and are not permitted.
13-10-2003, 18:44
What is your government then?
13-10-2003, 18:47
Democratic Socialists. You don't need political parties to be democratic.
13-10-2003, 18:48
Direct Democracy?
13-10-2003, 18:50
Ok. The Politicans begin introducing themselves to Talaaxian officials as Tories (supporters of the Monarchy).
13-10-2003, 18:51
ooc - Tories aka Conservatives. Right-wing and typically anti-socialist
13-10-2003, 18:52
OOC: Tories are supporters of a Monarchy.
13-10-2003, 18:54
It's a mix between a parliamentary democracy and a direct democracy. Representatives are elected from around the country into 501 seats. Elections take place every 4 years. The parliament decides day to day matters such as different policies, reforms, covert aid etc. Major decisions such as declarations of war, presidential recalls and large scale military deployments are decided through referendums.
13-10-2003, 18:55
SO how would these politicans make them and their cause known?
13-10-2003, 18:58
Most Talaaxians think alike, making decisions easier. Most of the respresentatives are elected based on their credentials ie; law degree, PhDs, hard working, friendly. Most communities are very friendly, people know each other. Come election time, people sign up to run and there are debates in the different ridings which are televised to the people in the ridings. The debates, as well as conversations on the streets and such influence the votes. There are no commerical campaigns, posters and such.
13-10-2003, 18:59
When is your next election?
13-10-2003, 19:01
In two years. If this rebellion lasts that long it may be post-poned.
13-10-2003, 19:17
OOC: Coldorra, did you miss my post on page three about the attack on your troops?
13-10-2003, 19:33

Moryk was stuck on patrol duty for the evening. A job consisting of walking around the city and looking for any illegal acts. He felt like a police officer on the beat... this was not how it was meant to be!

30 minutes later, his route complete he began to head home. He felt kind of happy that the Coldorran troops had their own area, he couldn't stay the idea of sharing duties with the Ratticans (ooc-intentional, I have nicknames for most armies  ). He quickly unslung his rifle from his back as he approached the Coldorran camp. The officers never approved of troops having their weapons unready and he certainly didn't need another night's patrol.

As he moved towards the gate he heard a shot ring out, he spun around to where the report had come from and noticed it had come from a building behind him. Instead of taking action, in his blind panic he looked back towards the camp, where medics were tending to a presumably wounded officer. He looked closer and he realised that it was infact his old squad mate from Tadjikistan. He must've been promoted since, how ironic...

Another shot blasted through the night! One of the medics fell with a head wound almost certainly dead. Moryk ran the camp and grabbed a pair of binoculars of the ground. He scoured the nightline, as he did so he heard another groan and the man right by his side collasped, he had been running for cover, as most of the soldiers were doing at this stage. Finally Moryk found the sniper and realised that he was the next target. As the next round was fired he rolled to the side and the bullet bounced off the tarmac beneath him. He grabbed Ryanid and together they made a dash for the building with about 7 soliders behind them, weapons raised high. The soldiers fired some rounds roughly in the direction of the building, but none came close and it only slowed them down. Moryk was about to follow suit when Ryanid tapped him on the shoulder and shouted over the gunfire,

"Keep moving! We can't let him escape!"
13-10-2003, 20:01
OOC: Y'evnij isn't supposed to run. He's supposed to be shooting up as many men as he can before he is found. Also, he's about 300 meters from the camp and 100 meters up on the tenth floor.
EDIT: I should have been more clear, though.
13-10-2003, 20:16
Y'evnij fired round after round at the men down range. As he fired he noticed a small group of men running towards the building. He shifted his fire down on these men and fired a shot. Forgeting to compensate for their running, the shot landed behind the soldiers. Correcting his careless mistake Ye'vnij set his sights on the man who appeared to be leading the group and fired. Unfortunetly he over compensated and the round missed the man's head and hit him around the waist (OOC: The leg or something).
Suddenly finding himself out of ammunition, Y'evnij reloaded and began firing at the other men coming towards the hotel.
OOC: I'm going to have to go reboot. My computer is running very slowly.
13-10-2003, 20:48
Moryk fell to the ground. He could feel a huge cramping pain in his leg. He collasped to the floor.

"Shit... I've been shot! Ryanid!" Ryanid was already well ahead of him, having failed to hear his friend's calls. Three of the soldiers began to pull him back and one was shot dead. The remaining two dragged him inside a nearby building. Moryk fainted from the exhaustion of being hauled around.

Ryanid and the three men who had followed him approached the building and kicked in the door. He raised his gun and prepared to charge up the stairs, the other soldiers covering him.
13-10-2003, 20:55
An Attican Sniper team was being sent to help the Coldorrans fight off snipers.

The Attican troops arrive in the farm fields and begin building small fortifications.

Socialism Tunnels, City Hotel
Y'evnij knew the soldiers would find him. The door was locked, but that wouldn't deter the soldiers. Y'evnij reloaded his rifle and began firing at the soldiers in the streets. After a few minutes of firing, Y'evnij ran out of ammunition. He looked down into the street at the chaos he'd caused and took the rosary off the scope of his rifle. He ripped open the window and began reciting the Our Father. Slowly his voice raised to a shout "... LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION BUT DELIVER...". While reciting the prayer he stepped onto the window sill. He then stepped out the window into the air while shouting the Hail Mary.
Anyone outside would have seen the form of a man falling to the ground and heard the faint sound of Father Y'evnij shouting the Hail Mary...
Mar'tia, Western Talaax
Bishop Gol'yemi sat with his priests in a small house in Mar'tia a town in western Talaax. Word had just come in from his informants that troops from Attica hand begun arriving here. Gol'yemi had been to Attica once, he found the Germanic Atticans to be boorish and overly forceful on occasion, but generally likeable. But now they had come to Talaax and were fighting with the infidelic government. To Gol'yemi this was an insult. He decided that he would give the Atticans a warm welcome...
13-10-2003, 22:44
Moryk saw the man fall from the window. Normally he would considered such a waste a pity, but with the 7.62-mmx51 bullet embedded in his leg, he wasn't feeling particuarly pitying. Ryanid came up to him.

"They might be shipping you back. You know protocol, it's up to you." Moryk gave him a grave look then smilied and said,

"I'm staying, so long as I don't have to pull any more patrols" He grinned and so did Ryanid.

"Here, you've earnt it." Ryanid chucked a rosary to him. Moryk looked puzzled and Ryanid explained where it had been found. They talked in the camp throughout the night, double troops pulling patrol shifts. Poor souls, Moryk thought. But not quite a bad as the many soldiers who'd lost their lives to that maniac. This reinforced his belief in what they were doing. It was all worth it.
13-10-2003, 23:40
One of the newly arrived Attican snipers sees the man fall, and pops a bullet thru his skull.

Dieter: That got him.

In the farmlands, Attican officers bribe Talaaxian citizens into giving them any information. They learn that something might be going in Mar'tia.
14-10-2003, 00:42
Western Talaax, Attican Command Post
OOC: This is just a company command post or something like that, not the regimental command post.
A husky looking priest walks down the road towards an Attican checkpoint/command post holding a bible at his side. The priest approaches the Attican soldiers and smiles broadly at them. "Friends! How are our Attican brothers on this fine fall day?" Behind the smile and his priestly robe lies 25 pounds of plastic explosive strapped around his torso. Being a husky man, the explosives blend in perfectly.
OOC: Ok, now you RP your soldiers response. Bear in mind, he's supposed to get by the sentries and detonate his explosives. This RP is drawing to a close and should be over by the 18th, so you shouldn't suffer too many casualties.
14-10-2003, 01:31
OOC: Why would they let him thru?
14-10-2003, 01:57
Because he's not going to the command post, he's going down the road. Or so they think.
14-10-2003, 22:33
BUMP
14-10-2003, 23:33
"Should we let him in?"
"Fine."

OOC: And this is just a small checkpoint with 3 men I assume.
15-10-2003, 01:06
I hate this piece of crap computer....

My post, abridged version:
-Priest thanks the soldiers
-Priest gets to the command post
-distracted with setting up the post, no one notices him
-Priest brandishes his bible and yells about sinners
-soldiers grab him and start to drag him out
-Priest detonates bomb and everything within 25 meters is killed or injured
-Bishop Gol'yami is pleased when he hears the sound of the explosion.

Excuse the almost godmodding, but it is necessary to advance the "plot". This is a semi-planned RP so this may happen from time to time. If you're not willing to suffer casualties to terrorists acts, pull out of this RP.
15-10-2003, 20:40
Northern Suburbs, Talaaxia
Tanks rolled through the once peaceful streets of the suburbs. Each house in the suburbs was thoroughly searched. Most of the time the searches turned up nothing or at the most, illegal pornography. Occassionally brief firefights between rebels holed up in houses and the government troops in the streets would break out. Five days after the search began, the suburbs were cleared and Talaaxia was officially declared free of rebel troops.
Elsewhere, churches were being occupied by troops and towns searches building by building. Ever since the fall of the Grand Cathedral the rebels had been on the run. Government troops pursued them across the countryside. Three months after the rebellion began, the rebels were contained within Northern Talaax. 500 square miles of rolling hills, picture perfect cottage towns, farmland and temperate forests would be the final battlefield. The rebels were bordered on three sides by RAFT and TIS divisions and on a fourth side by the ocean.
Frontlines, Northern Talaax, RAFT Sector 3
All along the front lines 2.2 million Talaaxian troops stood ready to launch the final counterstrike. Acting President R'ev Tensh is calling upon the foreign troops in the nation to send troops north to aid in the liquidation of the rebel territory.
Inside the rebel territory 75,000 rebels desperately held onto the front lines against insurmountable odds. Government commanders had already "split" the rebel force in half, down the north/south highway, roughly in the middle of the rebel territory. This road would be the main axis of the counterattack. The job of spearheading the attack would fall on the 45th RAFT Armoured Division and the 21st TIS Motor Rifle Regiment. Lined up to advance along this axis were 750 Type 98 HBTs, 150 T-80U MBTs, 350 BMP-1/2s and 4,500 Motor Riflemen. To open up the attack, which would take place along a twenty kilometer stretch of front, 300 artillery pieces and 100 MLRS systems had been brought forward. In support of the ground forces were 2 TIS Fighter Bomber Squadrons ( 40 Su-27s each ). Facing this force were just over 10,000 rebels. The attack would begin in 48 hours.
OOC: Hopefully I'll start the attack tonight, but if not it will start tomorrow.
15-10-2003, 20:53
Do you mind if my troops start the attack? (Vengeance).
15-10-2003, 21:04
Excuse me? I've been attacked worse than you mate

Plus I'm shipping in more troops.

100 T-80URs
50 M-109 Crusaders
7,000 SA-80 Troops
15-10-2003, 21:20
Talaaxian troops have been hit harder than either of you. They will spearhead the attack. Your troops are welcome to follow as the second echelon. My spearhead will break through the rebel lines and bypass any strongholds. The second echelon will have the task of clearing out strongholds and securing supply lines.
15-10-2003, 21:29
Moryk was feeling a little better. The docs had healed him up pretty good. He slowly got down from the bed and 'half-limped' over to the NCO. They still wouldn't let him out for the big offensive.

"Look Moryk..." the NCO began. Moryk was fed up.

"I should be out on this offensive! Don't give me any of those numbers! I want to see action!" and he did, badly, even it was patrol. Even worse, Ryanid was covering for him and he felt really guilty. The NCO stopped him right were he was.

"Moryk. No. 2,200,000 people will be going into that battle. They don't need you. I hate to be blunt, but you wouldn't make a difference. You're staying." Moryk slammed his fist on the table, pulling his leg in the process. The NCO turned around and Moryk limped back to his bed.
16-10-2003, 20:36
Frontlines, North Pocket
The rebel troops manning the line in the path of the offensive were just waking up as the dawn sun began to rise above the eastern horizon. As they began to rub the sleep out of their eyes the southern horizon began to light up in a series of bright flashes. A few seconds later the distinct thudding of artillery could be heard. Immediately rebels began diving into foxholes, dugouts and trenches. No sooner had they done this, artillery shells and rockets began to fall up and down the 20 kilometre stretch of front.
The shelling was intense. For every kilometre of front, 15 artillery pieces and 5 MLRS's fired off volley after volley. For 10 minutes the shells rained from the sky, inflicting many casualties. When the shelling stopped, the roar of jet engines could be heard screaming over the heads of the rebels. The fighter bombers began to engage known artillery pieces, the few tanks of the rebels and churches, all of which were being used as command posts. In the distance, the sound of tank engines starting confirmed that an attack was being launched.
Within minutes tanks and infantry carriers began to stream into the rebel lines, meeting little resistance. By 9 am that morning the 45th Armoured Division had advanced 20 kilometres into rebel territory and rebel lines all over the pocket began to collapse inward in an attempt to create a stable defensive line.
Total Losses, Day 1:
Government: 10 tanks
12 BMPs
69 Killed
78 Wounded
Rebels: 42 Tanks ( Full Compliment )
1,102 Killed
5,678 Captured
