There are a few oddities: if you are using Rail guns then why are you still using older systems like phalanx, MLRS (interesting idea there, but maybe a longer ranged rocket system might be better) and seahawk helos.

To be honest i would suggest either making it completely modern tech or goign full out with the tomorrows world stuff, but thats just me.

ps: just to note that the SH60F is a specialised anti sub helo, SH60Bs would be a slightly better choice for general use, of course a mix of say 4 Bs, 2 Fs and a couple of say Knighthawks would work.

OOC: Trojan man! :D
IC: nice. I personally like some type of VTOL on my battleships, but nice

The your best bet would be to keep it more modern, after all a 16" gun is already a pretty nasty customer..

Okay, first off, that's going to be one grossly oversized vessel. We're talking well over 150,000 tons here. You've got way too much firepower on it, and I'd really think that half the guns and VLS would be fine. Built as is, you're looking at a cost in the $10 billion range per ship.

Outside of that, supercavitating torpedoes are nice, but they are not the best antisubmarine weapons. For that, you will want a homing torpedo with greater maneuverability. SCTs would be much better used as first-strike weapons against things like this ship.

Rail Guns, future tech or not, to be effective, have to be very long.

18 rail guns on a battleship along with <250 VLS Cells!?
11-10-2003, 03:43
Oh, i guess I should post the obvious... rail guns would be so long they could only fire straight forward, with no curvature in the projectile's path

The Five Civilized Nations would like to preorder several of these warships...

Obviously, improvements will be made...

I'd stick with just normal guns, even have 18"ers like the Yamato class, but no future tech crap.

It's still rail guns, rail guns have no place in modern-tech RPing. If they were feasible then surely some nation would of introduced them on something now. Not to mention battleships (along with anything else with big guns) tend to use indirect fire, shooting in a ballistic arc to drop shells on a target, railguns have a flat arc, making them useless as bombardment weapons on earth. In space they are great, on earth, not at all.

im very interested

consider me a customer when they are released

i may use them to replace my Bismarck class battlecruisers (lil bit outta date)

Mh, yeah, I don't really know a thing about rail guns, or quite what you intend to employ them against, but I expect that as people seem to be hinting, they can't really fire over the horizon, while really big conventional guns could be pounding the ship from afar..

(and since when was Bismarck only a battlecruiser?)
11-10-2003, 22:37
it isn't THE bismarck, i used the basic design cuz it was so damn goos but moved weapons around and added missiles.............oh and called it a battlecruiser cuz it sounds cool. But the fact remains that it is an old design that needs replacing

The Bismarck is not so great- Queen Mavis matched her blow for blow just a few days since!

-Captain Francis Pike of HMWS Queen Mavis speaks from Port Perry, where his ship rests for repairs after the engagement in the Denmark Strait.

The rail gun cannot be used due to the fact it does not exsist in RL. We are in modern times.

Queen Mavis is one of Walmington's two battleships ;)
Her sister ship, King Godfrey I being the other.

1,744 hands, 43,400ts fully loaded, eight 15" guns, eight oil-fired Wychwood boilers giving 121,000hp for 27.4 knots, up to 16.5" steel armour (on the turret faces).

i belive the whole future tech thing was adressed earlier.

rail guns can still be used ballistically for BtH fire, it's just that they tend to have rather long ranges in that mode, although i suppose by adjusting the power output of the charge rails you can get soem pretty mean Time on target effects. Rail guns still hurl a lump of stuff that unless you manage to fire it into orbit will coem to ground eventually.

The Trojan Empire: if you could design a more modern tech version then The Kingdom of Crookfur may purchase some.

OOC: I RP semi-future...

Happy? No more rail guns, although I've already seen rail gun RPed on a battleship you people praised.
Iansisle

(Regardless of its THE Bismarck, she was a battleship, not a battlecruiser. For instance, Iansisle's battleship is the Behemoth-class, a 46,000 short tonner (deep load) that can make around 29 knots with 15" of belt armor in some places. Queen Jessica and her sister ships only have about 8 1/2" of armor at the thickest part of the belt (though unusually strong deck armor), which also has to be lower in the ship than preferable to compensate for her narrow beam. Still, the Jessica - despite carrying a mixture of 14"/50 and 12"/50 (King Ian V, the third ship of the class, switched to an all 14"/50 format) and displacing 35,000 short tons (deep load) can make upwards of 34 knots.)

IC: "Twelve 16" guns, Conroy?" asked Grand Admiral Sir Richard Tri, pausing with his cup of tea halfway to his mouth. "That's as much as Diomedes* is planning to carry, isn't it?"

"Yes, Admiral," nodded Captain Horatio Conroy, checking a file folder. "Needless to say, those Trojans have started an impressive ship."

Tri shook his head. "You know what to do, captain."

"Fruit basket, sir?"

"Good man, Conroy."

(*I also run a destroyer named Hector. ;))

look, its hardly like the Bismarck at all anyway, i just liked the name so i called my class of ship the Bismarck class

ok?

The Trojan Empire: since you play semi future tech it might be a bit hypocritical for me to purcahse weapons direct from you. i would still like some shore bombardment vessels perhaps based on your design. To be honest i would like to biuld my own (using purely modern tech) but i would feel very bad about ripping off your idea, so lets just say my governemnt have left $2billion in a safe deposit box for you to discover in the future...
