Ministry of Time established, time travellers beware

Esamopia
08-10-2003, 06:19
Esamopia announces the establishment of a special Time Corps, dedicated to tracking and destroying time machines wherever they may exist, in order to preserve the linear nature of time and in order to protect our history and thus our future: "Whoever controls the past controls the present, whoever controls the present controls the future."

As part of this (hopefully) international program, we have established the Ministry of Time in an undisclosed location but will welcome volunteers from other nations who can be given access to it afer passing several tests (members of armed forces should pass these easily.) We look forward to sabatoging evil time travellers and hope that we can preserve time!

Any countries supporting this, please post, send volunteers also!

OOC: I can see it now...

"BREAKING NEWS: In a devastating preemptive strike, the Timelords of Gallifrey and the Dalek Empire from Doctor Who, and the Suliban from that new Star Trek series, have all reduced Esomopia into a pile of radioactive ashes in response to Esomopia's ban on time travel. Revalian First Citizen Stuart Richards is on record as saying 'Damn, sucks to be them.'"

OOC: Heh. Good point. Wouldn't time travelers in the future just go into the past and eliminate the nation before they ever made the anti-time travel law?

OOC: Probably. Plus, how do you know that the timeline your nation exists in isn't the result of some temporal tampering as it is? I don't understand the physics involved terribly well, but I imagine there'd be no way to know.

OOC:
But then, if Esamopia was destroyed, the villians wouldnt have anyone to get mad at and destroy. Therefore a paradox.

Which leads to Esamopia itself who's ruining the time-space continuum.

OOC: Gotta love these timetravel mindscrews.

IC: Revalia refuses to comment either way.

well, good luck enforcing that ban, I wonder if you have to resources to enforce that in other nations :P

Hell, if someone did discover time travel, why aren't we seeing people who claim they're from the future? Possibly because,

1) Humanity can not comprehend time travel
2) Humanity will never be able to discover time travel
3) The universe simply doesn't work that way

We are. Just last year, (or maybe it was the year before...) some dude who was arrested for insider trading tried to claim that he was a time traveller as his defense.

Actually, it is theoretically possible to travel forward in time. Only travel backwards is impossible.

Do you mean time travel when time is accelerated? With most theroies, you come out before you go in.

What are you talking about? Try not to learn too much science from watching Star Trek

We have no way of doing it yet, but what you'd have to do is move faster than time itself. They theorize that to do it we'd make use of heavy gravity to slow down time (relatively) and have to move it with you as you move to keep the relativistic effect constant, and beyond that my head starts to hurt.

It's possible to go back, as well, if Novikov's Consistency Principle is correct.

Please explain, I am unfamiliar with Novikov's Consistency Principle

I don't like Star Trek. Star Wars is cooler. Anyway, I learned that by reading scientific magazines (e.g. Discover, New Scientist, Popular Science, Popular Mechanics, etc.).
