[Modern Tech] Walker Prototype Testing

07-10-2003, 20:27
This is the Primary prototype model of a line of Raysian RM-18 Semi-mechanical Cavalry.

http://www.bateshome.com/jordan/magitek18.gif

This 4.5 Ton Walker operates on an electro-constricting-polymer muscular infrastructure, which is powered by a Diesel-combustion Generator. The only mechanical parts make up the diesel generator, the dual .50 Calibur Automatic Rifles, and the 2 Compressed-Air Blaster Pods on the backside. Everything else is controlled by polymers that constrict when electrified, simulating muscles. This complex system is designed to have a very narrow chance of ever breaking down. The Engine would probably be the only thing ever needing intensive repair, a the plastic muscles can easily just be interchanged or replaced.

Summary:
[Modern Technology]
Height: 3 meters
Weight: 9000 lbs (4100 kg)
Powerplant: 1 Diesel Generator w/ 15 Gallon Tank (Internal) that powers the electical systems that control muscular movement, 2 heavy Air Compressors that power 2 Blaster Pods.
Crew: 1 Pilot (Seen in the pic is an empty chair)
Max Speed: 60 Mph (100km/h)
Max Jump Height (With Blaster Pods): 50 Feet.
Computers: Gyro-Stabilizer, VisorScreen Interface, Wired dual joystick/dual pedal controls, Radar.
Armament: 2 .50 Cal Automatic Rifles, Interchangable Aux. Weapons such as Stinger Missile Packages, or Gauss Rifles, or heavy sniper rifles.
Defenses and Armor: LiquidMetal/Kevlar skins with Steel framework, optional Steel Arm-Shield
Operational Limbs: 2 Double-Joint Arms, 2 Long Fingers and 1 thumb per hand per arm, 2 Reverse-joint Legs, and a semi-pivoting torso.

Testing is proving this weapon very useful, and it is supposed that this Special Forces/Rangers weapon will be available in mass production by the end of the year at about 250 Million a piece.

Good job, Raysia. I would buy one but you know I only use gundams. They are cool looking.

All orders confirmed, they will be delivered in 2 years (2 days RL time... this is because we have not yet produced these yet)

A pic of the RM-19s piloted by a Pair of Raysian Elite Soldiers:
http://www.bateshome.com/jordan/magi.jpg

The RM-19 is another Variant, made by a rival design team, with similar stats. The only difference on this version is that it has a top speed of 90 mph (150 km/h) and lacks Blaster pods in favor of A springier leg frame.

They cost the same, just a different version.

The pilot is a little exposed to small arms fire, don't you think?

The pilot is a little exposed to small arms fire, don't you think? Many vehicles (like jeeps and motorcycles) leave the pilot open to small arms... this is basically just like a mechanical horse with weapons built in. An Arm-Shield is optional for protection. The pilot is allowed to leave and exit the vehicle in a hurry.

I suggest encasing the pilot in a bulletproof pod. With a shield, the pilot has to take the time to bring the shield up to protect himself. For those brief moments, he's still exposed. Also, I'd like to know what would happen if this thing fell over. Especially at speeds around 120 mph.

A Protective Pod was Considered, but dismissed as it would increase the size of the Mecha considerably. This mecha is meant to be small, just a power suit really.

As for falling over, the Pilot has Saftey straps and has full control over arms and legs that can react to falls and recover from falls just as a human would.

The speed of the arm is just as fast as the user's own arm. The Arms themselves have the ability to safely block Small arms easily.

If a Pilot wishes for personal safety, he may wear normal Military heavy infantry armor, in fact, it's recommended.

Your machines better be able to take some pretty hefty impacts if they fall at 120mph. I wasn't asking if they could get up, I was asking what would happen to the machine, let alone the pilot?

OOC: LOL u know what? i messed up the stats... they are fixed now... the RM-18 only goes 60 mph now lol and the RM-19 goes up to 90.

IC: Both these speeds rwequire a great accelleration time, maybe 45 seconds to get up to anywhere near full speed. Falling over is very hard to do due to the balancing systems, and the high speed model (RM-19) has a deflecting windshield.
07-10-2003, 21:39
I'll take 50.Order confirmed, will arrive in 3 years (3 days)

As for benderland's question, i forgot to answer what would actually happen if it fell over... well actually I did answer... the armor itself could take it, but the pilot would be responsible for taking corrective measures to fix is balance and/or extend the arms to cushion the fall just like he would do in his own body.
07-10-2003, 21:42
Oh yeah, I almost forgot, I need to name this thing... I'd prefer something Raysially Traditional, like a Biblical or Book of Mormon name or something like that. Any ideas?

I'm leaning towards "The Gabriel" and "The Ezekiel"... what do you guys think?

Interesting, tho a basic review sugests it to be a largly non-viable combat platform. Too bulky for building clearing and close-in urban work, too lightly armoured and too large for the battlefield in general(you can clearly see the internals!).

This might make a decent police craft, but it's too lightly armoured/armed and too large and visible to be consided for use by Kanuckistani armed forces.

However, you might think about adding a roll cage.
09-10-2003, 07:25
Roll Cages would be useless in most cases, and it's meant as a Scout or an urban Vehicle. You don't enter a desert battlefield with this, definately not. It's not meant for protection, it's meant for power, speed, and control.

Still, you've got to admit it makes one hell of a jucy target for anyone fancying to take a shot at it. Atleast a jeep presents a smaller target, a hummer is decent protection against small arms, and both can be bailed from with speed if necessary. I can just see someone throwing a grenade or molikov cocktail into the poor exposed pilot from a second or third story window.

*slaps 'RPG Me!' sticker on the back on the demo model* :D

It would be expensive fodder un urban combat.

It would be expensive fodder un urban combat.Someone could just as easily do that to someone not manning this... Again I say, this is not a power aror, merely a Power suit with weapons. The Pilot is neither exposed or protected... just strengthened and given many weapons :)

But 50 million each(that could translate to ~500 Hummers), to make a small target a large one which can't effectivly take cover in most urban terrain or enter buildings, for the sake of a pair of .50 cals...

There's also the psycological aspect; this thing's profile will make it a lead magnet, and unlike a tank or decent IFV, it's practicly unarmoured.
