Darynia Announces Unprecedented Space Move

DNN Reporter: Today, Rikanth Schmlecklock, the ruler of our fair nation, announced an interestingly bold and crazy move. He plans to somehow transport our ENTIRE nation's population to a different planet. His justification for such a crazy move is that our current planet is covered in other nations, and is running out of space and resources quickly. Rikanth is devoting as much of the national budget as he can toward his new scheme. He also announced that this plan had been in the works for a long time, and scout ships had already been constructed and had found a suitable planet for colonization, though he did not reveal any details on this planet. He said as he was speaking, larger ships were headed away to begin creating cities and such. When asked if he was still sane, Rikanth just laughed. More on this in the coming week..
OOC: ok, i know it sounds crazy, but i'm just trying to come up with an RP justification for moving, and since my nation is ridiculously rich anyway...*shrug* anyway, i haven't been here in a while, and let's say this announcement takes place about 20 years ago in Darynia, also being wired out to the mass media. You can post opinions on this whole thing..i guess i'll have to deal with the "geez this is st00pid" comments, but oooh well. i'll continue posting (time permitting) on what happens.
OOC: What's stupid about it? I know dozens of nations, including me, who are based entirely in space.

1 year Later...
Narrator: This is a Darynia News Network special report...
DNN Reporter: the first of Rikanth's massive colony ships has been built. The ship's exact size is not known, though it is at least several miles long. It uses cryogenic sotrage units, not because the space trip is too long, but to save space. The ship can hold over one million citizens. This ship has been christened (sp?) the DSS (Darynian space ship) Rikanth. we have footage of the ship as it lifted off for test manuevers.
*footage is shown of a gigantic, rectangular, pitch black metal ship with 10 gigantic engines mounted on the back is shown. soon, the ship begisn to slowly rise off of hte ground, and when it rises far enough, large plumes of blue fire are seen erupting from the bottom. The engines at the back flare to life, shooting huge plumes of blue fire out of them. The ship rises out of view.
DNN Reporter: The manuvers went as expected, and the ship has returned to its landing spot. Many otehr colony ships are nearing completion, and new huge factories are being constructed to create more ships. Rikanth estimates that all of hte ship will be read within twenty five years, though he hopes it will be less.

DNN Reporter: Today, Rikanth has announced that all of the colony ships have been built. i'm still wondering exactly how he managed to create that many ships in such a short time. He also announced the only thing holding up the departure of our country's population is the construction of enough ships to bring us supplies. He estimates these will take several more years to finish. He also announced that he is growing impatient. A detailed recording of his speech will be aired later this afternoon...in other news.....

Random International News Reporter: Today, there was a stunning display as a huge fleet departed from Darynia on it's several month trip to the nation's new planet, leaving huge trails of blue fire in its wake. The large territory of Darynia is left unoccupied, and it is assumed this territory will become contested between nearby lands. (OOC: feel free to start wars over the land, it'd give Rikanth a good laugh.) In other news, Global Porpoises inc. is being sued for fraud today...

DNN Reporter: we now go live to a statement by Emperor Rikanth.
Emperor Rikanth:Darynia, having recently shifted itself to a new planet, is now almost completely back to normal. We are returning to normalcy, and beginning trade with nearby planets with our currently limited space technology. I am inquiring to other space-based nations about purchasing technology. We will be returning to normal soon, people of Darynia, thank you for putting up with my crazy move. *Rikanth grins and returns inside his palace.
