Today, the government announced that an attack plan against the nation of The Peoples Anthill was brought into effect:

"Our government has decided that the best course of action in order to protect our people, and to protect the people of other nations around the world, is the launch of an offensive against The Peoples Anthill. We have taken this drastic step in response to continual provocation from The Peoples Anthill. The proposal was unanimously passed in the Hall Of Representatives this morning:

'That this glorious nation shall launch an offensive against the nation of The Peoples Anthill, that we shall be victorious, that we have reason in that:

1)The Peoples Anthill has used weapons of mass destruction indiscriminatley;

2)The Peoples Anthill has cast aside attempts at negotiation;

3)The Peoples Anthill has repeatedly insulted and provoked this nation into action;

4)That we see this as the best course of action for our people.'

"We believe this is a legitimate course of action, and one that the people of this glorious country shall trust to us to carry out effectively. We will not fail. We shall not falter.

We will be victorious!"

The military of Altaran has commenced mobilisation, and all forces are consolidating. The 3rd Fleet has set sail for the regional waters of The Peoples Anthill.

In other news, anti-war demonstrations have stepped up a mark. Peaceniks were holding marches earlier today, with the completion of the Trotsky (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=77523) bringing people onto the streets. The Altaranian Anti-War Lobby (AAWL) has called for people to show their resentment for this act on the part of the government:

"We had no say in this! We don't want a war, look at what The Peoples Anthill did to Ell! We don't want any chance of this happening to us! NO WAR, NO WAR!"

The Minister For Internal Affairs responded with:

"It's exactly because of what they did to Ell that we must act!"

Protests are expected to increase in size and violence over the next few hours, with people even leaving their jobs to join the crowds in the streets. Violence has been reported in the south of Latini, and the Riot Police have been called in to deal with any further disturbances.

The Dictatorship of Proletarian Revolution has long been a friend and ally of Altaran. We have long backed their socialist cause and they have long backed ours.
We must however condemn this action by Altaran. We believe them to be now smothered in hypocrisy.
We draw attention to a secret deal we once made long ago, they supplied us with the means for us to manufacture nuclear weapons, they supplied us with our first working bomb. And now Altaran punishes another for possessing WMDs. We find the double standards to be most distressing and we feel we cannot stand aside and watch as they crush another soveriegn nation.

[I thought part of TPA was above the waters? Originally it was stated that TPA inhabited some isolated pacific island somewhere, then began to expand, eventually extending construction of the hive beneath the waves.]

The riots in the cities have now begun to take their toll on the government. 3,476 policemen have been severly injured, and another 432 have been killed. Despite repeated orders and requests from the Ministry For The Interior to cease the violence, the mobs continue to cause havoc and destruction around the country. The entire south side of Guevaragrad has been sealed off and declared a no-go area. Several other cities have also been evacuated by the police; they simply cannot contain the unrest.

The Territorial Army Reserve has been called in to guard the main governmental compounds, but with the majority of the Guard ordered to serve in the war against The Peoples Anthill, that force is less than a 10th of what it would normally be.

Embassies around the globe have been closed, amidst fears that Anti-War demonstrators in those countries would attack the embassies.

Several Armies and Fleets of the Armed Forces have been called back to the country, but they will not arrive for several days, at least.

"The situation can only worsen", The Premier said today, "This is a grave time in our nation, and the people of the country have shown that they do not support the action we have taken."

The rockets were, obviously, destroyed. However, before they had been blown to bits by ridiculously large numbers of spaceships, they had released some strange... devices into the air. Suddenly there were six more rockets. Then twenty. Then a thousand. Then a hundred thousand. Then a million.

OOC: They were aerospace fighters, spaceships can't enter the atmosphere. I'll RP the damage as a thousand small rockets, which is more believable than any of the other large numbers.

"Sir, rockets are breaking up before being engaged... crap they're filled with submunitions."

The hulls of the ships shuddered as the unguided rockets impacted against the hulls of the ships.

"Damage report."

"Minor loss of armor, rockets were too spread out to do much."

"Very well, we have six launchers facing Earth-side, so load the Barracudas with nuclear warheads. I want a line pattern and 100 meter depth increments, simultaneous detonation."

The missiles were launched and each impacted the water at high speeds, creating large waves. As they sunk the pressure sensors kept track of the water pressure until a electronic switch sent a signal to the trigger to detonate the warhead, this happened to all of the warheads almost simultaneously. The effect of a warhead going off every hundred meters until six hundred meters displaced thousands of tons of water, boiled off several tons more, and created massive overpressure around the effected area.

OOC: Since we don't know where you launched your rockets from this was our retaliation to ensure that they were destroyed. This doesn't that I necessarily succeeded, but I would like to know OOC where you launched your rockets from, because if you launch again I'm just going to launch anti-matter warhead at your underwater structure and say screw it.

This is our retaliation against the launch of weapons against our ships in orbit. Before, we were content to contain TPA, now we may start taking active measures to ensure the safety of our ships. I'd prefer that you didn't, I don't want this turning into a nuclear orgy. Besides, our attacks are retalitory and seek to contain the capabilities of TPA, not to wantonly destroy TPA.

As the ships retreated, a series of ports opened in the surface of the anthill structure deep under the polluted mess. From these came, in a flurry of bubbles, a group of shadowy, tentacled forms. They undulated in the dark water, optical sensors glowing a deep shade of purple as sonic pulses ricocheted from their fores to the undersides of the cruisers.

The crew on the ships heard these as loud piledriver "CLANGCLANGCLANGCLANGCLANG!" noises.

The first of the undulating shapes hit the hull with a thundering roar, and metal arms and tentacles popped out from the water like some gigantic black kraken. At the tips of the tentacles were whirling diamond cutting blades that sank into the hull of the ship, slicing crewmen and bulkheads like stalks of wheat shorn by a grim sickle. From the black, orbicular cephalus came a sharp drill bit that began to bore through the hull.

"I repeat, we're under attack!" an Allanean radio has screamed.

"Sir!", the radioman yelled, "they need help!"

Immediately, sixteen "Anne Coulter" fighter-bombers screamed down the decks and headed out towards the anthill. More planes followed, and finally, one hundred planes were coming in, and each was carrying two 1-kiloton nukes.

"Alpha, this is Death Squadron, do you read me? Over."

Bubbles appeared, a churning black froth of oil and corrosive filth, as though the sea itself were vomiting forth some new horrendous creature from some godforsaken hole deep in its polluted depths. The grey rectangular form of the undersea aircraft carrier appeared and opened, releasing a deluge of small grey forms with turbine blades at their sides. The light hoverships moved evasively, hovering and zig-zagging like metal insects, as they fired rockets and green laser beams made visible by the smoke lanced from underslung gun barrels, searching like fiery fingers of death, their targets.

From under the sea, the war walkers rose from their slumber, the cybernetic pilots jolted to life by electrical shocks, and angled their great missile launchers upwards, and, rising atop columns of white froth, the long missiles shot out of the surface of the black ocean, searching for an enemy to attack. A group of missiles sought the retreating cruisers, whilst a small group of the hover-planes rushed towards the enemy ships and engaged the enemy aircraft.

The other sea-strikers (as they would be known), began to near the enemy cruisers from under the oceans.

Then, like great titans of the deep, rising in crests of peeling oily water and filth, the great forms of the Anthill's underwater battle-ships rose and began to spit forth a sputum of ordnance and fire and smoke, accented by the searching lines of green laser beams.

"Alpha, this is Death Squadron, do you... s***!" the pilot screamed as he saw a huge explosion rise where one of the carriers just was. He also saw the fierce dogfight between the Allanean and PA craft. He knew what order he had to give.

"Death Squadron, this is Death Captain, change targets, I repeat, change targets". Immediately, eighty planes (for that was what remained turned around to drop tactical nukes at the position of the PA ships. And there was steam, and fire, and noise...

...after 30 bombs were dropped, he considered the job done. The surviving planes continued to drop their remaining cargo (130 1 kt charges) on the walls of the Anthill.

Many were destroyed, and the carcasses, like the broken and twisted glassy exoskeletons of many small insects lay drifting silently on the surface of the churning black and brown water, and nary a human scream nor a radio plea for help was heard as the anthill's submarine fleet and aerial force plummeted into the depths. Rather, even as those too badly damaged to be salvageable slid under the cold bosom of the ocean, their weapons still fired, still searching, as if impelled by some daemonic force, to kill and destroy the enemies of the Anthill.

Many more, however, had already finished their task and had slid back down under the safety of the waves to recuperate and fight once more..

As the hail of tactical nukes shook the outer walls of the Anthill, the captain of the second carrier gave another order.

"Anton!"

"Yes, sir!"

"Do you remember the 50-kiloton missile-carried nuclear depth charges we have on board?"

"Aye Aye, Cap'n!"

"How many do we have?"

"Four, Cap'n!

"Fire two at about where we last saw the huge ants".

The two missiles streaked out above the surface of the water, then burrowed themselves in the ocean, detonating deep beneath the waves.

Admiral Yamamoto looked at the tac display and cursed, "God damnit, you'd think that if you threw nukes at the bastards they'd have the common curtesy to die like good little Collectivists, but no, their damn ships have to come out of the water like everything else that they own. Well fuck them, I want everything thrown at them but the God damn kitchen sink."

All seventeen ships opened up with capital lasers, autocannons, PPCs, guass, and missiles.

Just so you know, Naval Autocannon numbers are the diameters of the shells in inches. Also, a single shot from most capital weapons could level half a city block and the heavy ones can level more than that]

EDIT: Only the Front Left (FL/R), Left Broadside (L/RBS), and Aft Left (AL/R) firing arcs actually fired weapons, so only count those that I just mentioned.

Just for the information of all concerned, how far away is Kelvinisgrad from TPA? There are several thousand ships, troops, aircraft, and sensors of all imaginable types interdicting the oceans surrounding TPA. The EOE units there will shoot down, sink, or otherwise destroy anything that leaves the interdiction zone.</OOC>

If the price of removing this pestilence from the possibility of future threat to the Diminion is the exile of the People's Anthill leadership and a selected cadre to a friendly nation, His Omniferocity will agree- if the remaining allies agree as well. Western Australia and Ell are the primary victims of People's Anthill, and they have the greatest authority on the imposition of conditions for peace.

His Omniferocity would be willing to completely destroy the People's Anthill for ever, but is willing to wait (for the present) until the remaining allies realize that delay only helps the enemy.

In the meantime, neutral nations (whether assisting in the peace negotiations or not) would be well advised to contact the Allied forces interdicting the People's Anthill. The entire Interdiction Area is a designated 'free-fire" zone for any traffic attempting to leave.

Indeed, anyone not authorized to enter the area around The People's Anthill will be engaged and they won't like it when I do. I also agree with TEO, I'd just assume destroy TPA and be done with it, it would be too costly to enter that damn quasi-anthill of his and literally fight room to room, I've got battlearmor and I don't want to try it.

The Anthill suffered some trouble in that many of the weaker and outlying parts of the Hive structure, buried deep into the ocean floor, but in the recent months, following a heavy bombardment on the behalf of the Scandinavian States, the Anthill had carefully revised its structure to deflect most kinetic energy down and outwards. Much silt and muck had been raised from the ocean floor, but when the dust settled, a great deal of the Hive was still quite intact and strong. Some bulkheads had burst under the pressure, however, and the sections flooded were soon sealed off.

Approximately fifty three thousand six hundred-twelve cells were killed in the initial assault and flooding.

Telemetric and pressure data was gathered from this, and a number of cells were immediately mobilised to work on repairing the damage in heavy pressure suits.

I'd always imagined TPA to be 300-400 nautical miles from kelvinisgrad, in a generally southerly direction. surely the allied nations wouldn't object to a Kelvini battlegroup coming to help maintain the safety of their homeland, would they? :cry:

The arach armies begun to movilize again, millions (not one million this time, but half of the entire arach army) of arach soldier castes enter into The Arach Carriers, ready to die in the name of collectivism. This morning, the civil unrest within the nation of Altaran finally overcame the best efforts of the government. At approximately 10:52am, the gates of the Governmental Seat Compound were battered down, and a crowd numbering some 2,500 poured into the assorted buildings. The previous government has been ousted, and a new Premier has taken the seat of office. Dave Jones (OOC: I'm crap at names :?), the leader of the Anti-War Lobby, has taken control of the country through a bloodless coup. The old Premier has gone into exile in a country in the region - the new government will not say which country to prevent a manhunt. A short statement was issued by Mr Jones today:

We have taken over the running of Altaran. The old Premier was imperialistic and oppressive. We will remove this outdated and inefficient form of socialism we have run for over 250 years. The United Socialist States Of Altaran is no more. A moderate coalition government will be installed, with me as its head. Fear not; we shall govern far better than ever before. You will all be free to live your lives as you wish; no more state looking over your shoulder, no more 'Big Brother'.
We herald the dawn of a new era in our nation. Rejoice, as you are alive to see it!

The first order of the new government will be withdrawl of our forces from the war against The Peoples Anthill. We have no quarrel with these people; an unjust war will be far too costly for both sides of the conflict. Our forces will be recalled immediately, and we officially declare an end to hostiles with The Peoples Anthill. We also implore the other nations invloved in the conflict to cease attacks, and let this peaceful and hard-working community rebuild.

OOC: He has a point guys, I expressly asked the allies not to launch nuclear weapons unless it was in retaliation for a TPA attack. You guys really need to learn how to use nukes in a tactical manner instead of going all out at the drop of a hat.

"Yessir, all surface vessels will drop every depth charge they have over the area that the Hive is believed to occupy. They will all be set to maximum depth, to ensure they will not explode early - that is, unless TPA forces destroy them.

The submersibles will fire all torpedoes at the Hive, as well as making a dive straight for it - the surface vessels will hold position above."

I'd always imagined TPA to be 300-400 nautical miles from kelvinisgrad, in a generally southerly direction. surely the allied nations wouldn't object to a Kelvini battlegroup coming to help maintain the safety of their homeland, would they? :cry:

Since Kelvinisgrad is not part of the Allied forces interdicting TPA, they will therefore not be permitted within 200 kilometers of the Free-Fire Zone.

If People's Anthill agrees to the terms set by the Allies, and the other Allied nations agree to allow Kevlinisgrad forces in to monitor the terms, only then will your ships be permitted to close within 200 kilometers.

Since we- the Allied Forces- are still at war with People's Anthill (so-called peace negotiations notwithstanding), this is a reasonable demand. Remain outside the Free-Fire Zone interdicting People's Anthill until the failure or success of the negotiations. Any incidents that result from your failure to avoid a war zone are henceforth your responsibility.

Exactly where is your nation located in relation to TPA? Forlorn Hope (my regional continent) is only a few hundred kilometers north of TPA, and my country has been gang-launching observation, surveillance and other satellites since well before the war started. The southern Pacific (and especially the area around Forlorn Hope) is now probably the most observed section of the planet. Furthermore, other Allies in the area also have extensive satellite networks; Evil Overlord Enterprises forces have installed Theater Air Defense Units in New Zealand and Western Australia; all of the Allies have large fleet units on patrol throughout the area; and several thousand interlinkedphased-array microradars and lidarsare active all around Forlorn Hope.

Since Forlorn Hope is a continent the size of Antarctica, this means that an enormous swath of the southern hemisphere in the Pacific is being monitored millimeter by millimeter.

The EOE satellite array instantly detected the TPA launches, and ASAT platforms immediately rotated to bear on the missiles as they rose through the atmosphere.

The first to fire were the non-nuclear GRB lasers. Enormous chemical explosions force-pulsed energy through gamm-ray emitters. Each satellite was destroyed microseconds after the GRB pulses sleeted into the rising missiles.

Next were the Kinetic Energy Weapons. The People's Anthill missile orbits were precisely plotted, and KEW satellites rotated to bear on the ballistic tracks. Shortly after the missile warheads left the atmosphere, each satellite fired cones of osmium tetrahedrons into the warheads' orbital paths. Each warhead had 3 KEWs targeted upon it.

Last came the highly accurate chemical lasers. Their 4 megawatt lasers lacked the power throughput to damage the warheads inside the atmosphere, but here they were lethal. The precise targeting of the Molnya tracking satellites allowed each laser to fire dozens of times at each target until the warheads descended back within the atmosphere.

BTW, for those unaware of the facts of orbital mechanics, ICBM warheads require a re-entry shroud to survive atmospheric re-entry. The KEWs in particular are very effective in damaging the shrouds- meaning that the warheads so damaged burn up on re-entry.

The lasers will also do damage to re-entry shrouds, but are primarily designed to destroy the onboard electronics. Without electronics, the shrouds won't deploy properly, nuclear warheads may not fire in the proper sequence, and guidance systems may fail under the high-energy beams.

As the Altaran submarines dove towards the Hive structure, a pair of smallish submarine vessels with great flat discs upon their sides like great remoras headed for each one at full speed, magnetohydrodynamic drives propelling them on columns of superheated water. A pair latched on and there was a grinding sound and heavy pile-drivers drive latches into the hulls and bulk-heads of the Altaran submarine. A heavy cutting drill bore a hole through the double hull of the submarine and a column of pinkish-red smoke flooded in, followed by a flurry of small, wriggling things that looked remotely like robotic eels with wicked clasping drill tips.

Perhaps you need to check your facts. None of His Omniferocity's forces have yet fired a shot in anger, much less nuclear weapons. In fact, His Omniferocity has been generally involved in preventing the use of such weapons.

The 1st Strike Force (already in position around People's Anthill) consists of three carrier battlegroups, two Surface Action Groups, and one submarine squadron. The sailors on the submarines seal the bulkheads around the breach, but not in time to prevent the boarding of the writhing 'worms'.

They proceed to begin slaughtering the crew (I assume this is what they are for...?)....a lone sailor gets a message to the captain before he is gruesomely ripped apart.

The heavy reinforced steel doors to the bridge are sealed shut, as well as those of the torpedo and engine rooms. The submarines fire a total of 14 torpedoes, before ramming the Dome at full speed.

The Docks of the Devorus, a polluted pier where no life dwelt and the sea smelt more of industrial chemicals than fish. The water was a reddish black and an irritant to the skin but not a serious corrosive agent.
Factories nearby belched forth fumes into the smoky black and constantly stormy sky.

Under the ground, a processor dwelt deep underneath. Its electrical circuits controlling every facet of the local hive network. This was not the All-Seeing Eye Processor but more like an extension to provide local communications between body and the hive. It recieved its orders...

Begin loading of Fast Attack Vessels, load Firey-Eye incendiary missile weapons and Penetrator hull breachers onto the boats. 250 vessels are to prepare to move against the enemy warships. Attacks on civilian targets are strictly prohibited.

The weapons were being loaded onto the small, fast moving boats, many there were in the large harbour and in large groups could easily take down destroyer class warships that were many times bigger. These ships made up the bulk of the Devoran navy and the hive mind was skilled in control; pinpointing the weapons systems at key enemy positions at an instant.

The 250 fast attack vessels, fully armed left the harbour. No declarations of war had been sent. They split off into several 'wolf pack' groups. They teared through the sea like knives through butter...

The torpedoes were loaded by the Hive Controlled Human Bodies. Efficiently and with great speed. The dreaded command was sent to the boats.

*out on the picket ships, the firestorms lit up, painting the sky with streams of hyperveolcity explosive bullets, trying to knock down the missiles before they could hit the Chimera. of the 20 inbound missiles, 5 got through. 1 caught a firestorm round in the tail, knocking it into a spiralling course that brought it down into the Chimera's D turret. two more impacted the portside weapon emplacements, destroying a good portion of the ship's defenses on that side. 1 struck the heavily armored superstructure, and the last plowed into the short-range targetting radar. the torpedos fared worse, most of them losing their way in the thick screens of coutermeasures laid down. 6 lost bearing and detonated harmlessly somewhere under the battlegroup, 5 actually struck the countermeasure emitters and exploded, damaging the ASW ships that had dropped them, 4 lost bearing in the countermeasures and reacquired picket ships as targets, tearing a hole through one destroyer and damaging the carrier and a cruiser. 2 of the torpedos collided while trying to find a target, the resulting blast causing severe damage to one of the missile cruisers. the remaining 3 torpedos struck the Chimera, which was saved from destruction by the Remoras she didn't know she was carrying. the first torpedo struck a remora dead-on. the pilot didn't even know what happened, he was simply crushed by the sudden pressure wave from the explosion, but his craft absorbed most of the damage in it's destruction. the second torpedo detonated just aft of the rudder, mangling it and throwing shrapnel that shredded two of the four main screws, as well as rupturing several hull seams, flooding several compartments. the third torpedo also struck a remora, but did so much nearer the hull. the blast destroyed two of the covert submarines, and cracked a main seam in the armor, flooding almost a dozen compartments. the remaining remoras dropped from the hull with the first explosion, assuming it to be the signal to make for the anthill. they tumbled with the debris until they were below a thermocline, then levelled out and began the long, dangerous trek to their target, MHD drives slowly and silently pulling them through the water.*

Asp is the contraction for APHERBFSDS (Armor Piercing High Explosive Rocket Boosted Fin Stabilized Discarding Sabot) rounds. you can see why I call 'em Asps, yes?

Enemy returning fire on attack group 6, evade enemy fire, maneuver and activate emergency rapid propulsion systems.

The signal was sent to the subsections that controled the ships, they began to move wildly through the water trying to escape the enemy seahuggers but several of the attack ships were unlucky and were sunk. The attack ship pilots that were unlucky at their last moments, arranged their boats to block incoming fire. 7 seahuggers had hit their targets but 20 had been blocked by the wreckage and the explosions of the vessels. The explosions sent shockwaves across the sea, causing the maneuvrability of 5 attack ships to slow. The cruisers attacked but since they were partially blind they hit the water, exploding on wreckage and destroyed 3 escaping attack ships in the process. The ASP rounds firing desperately to destroy the remaining 15 attack ships, in the 40-70 seconds since firing, 7 hit their targets penetrating the top layer and exploding within the confines of the hull frame, utterky destroying them. Luckily, these losses allowed the remaining 8 attack ships to report back to base...

"Captain, signal the SAG to conform to the Kelvinisgrad unit's course change and maintain a good 100 kilometer distance. We'll take the battlegroup a few points west of that. Go to Modified Zebra for the entire Force."

The 8 attack ships approached the Devoran docks and entered the Dead Sea of Devorus, the bay where the harbour is located and where the sea is partially acidic with a pH of 3 and with a concentration of 0.75 mols per dm cubed.

Activate primary repair procedures. Activate cloaking procedures to hide the vessels from enemy satellite monitoring. They shall not know of our involvement. All remaining attack ship groups are to maintain anonymous raids upon Overlord and Kelvinisgradian warships. Prepare to launch Sea Drake Class Attack Submarine 001 as soon as refueling and supply is complete.

The cloaking procedures were nothing more than hiding the boats within secret caves within the headlands of the bay.
But the pride of the Devoran navy sailed out to sea. A massive long serpentine vessel capable of withstanding pressures at a depth of 400 meters. It possessed 15 forward torpedo tubes and various other tubes located at different sections of the ship giving the 001 the ability to fire in every direction thus allowing for greater flexibility. It could stay a maximum of 10 months at sea before having to report to base.

[ the Anthill isn't under a dome... just picture a very large square building of sorts, clinging to the bottom of the ocean floor. Well... here's an easy version. Take a borg cube and then spread it all over a flat surface like a bit of peanut butter on slice of toast. Yeah. That's the Anthill, in a nutshell. (Mind the pun). ]

Plenty of damage was done ( a great deal, in fact, most of it to, but not after the computer viruses - the pre-sentient subversion entity that was carried in the salvage submarines - had seized control of the computers and shut down many of the functions. The submarines brought the captured vehicle closer and closer, a sub pen opening up like a red maw of the ocean depths...

People's Anthill, with no valid provocation- or indeed any provocation- attacked nations who are regular trading partners of Evil Overlord Enterprises.

The government of People's Anthill was warned that continuing to destabilize the southern Pacific would mean war with the nations there and their allies- including the government of His Omniferocity.

People's Anthill ignored these warnings, as well as warnings from several other large and powerful nations with economic or humanitarian interests in the region, and attacked the Australian subcontinent. Furthermore, without sufficient provocation and without any valid military reason for doing so, People's Anthill used chemical and biological weapons against the civilian population of Ell.

A state of war is still in effect between People's Anthill and His Omniferocity's government. Following the urging of EOE's Allies, His Omniferocity has sent a message to People's Anthill outlining the minimum conditions under which People's Anthill can have peace. There has yet been no reply. Unless an answer is received soon, His Omniferocity will assume that People's Anthill is not interested in peace or survival, and Evil Overlord Enterprises will initiate Trinity-Three Protocols and remove People's Anthill from the face of the planet.

To date, His Omniferocity's forces have yet to fire a shot in anger- either at TPA or anyone else. However, until the negotiations are resolved (one way or another) EOE military units and those of other nations still at war with People's Anthill will destroy any ship, airplane, spacecraft, canoe, or any other conveyance of any kind that attempts to leave People's Anthill.

If you are allied with People's Anthill, your alliance would be best served by instructing People's Anthill to respond to His Omniferocity's overly generous terms for peace. Tell them that the clock is ticking ... and His Omniferocity is not known for his patience.

The Submarine descended to a level of 400 meters below sea level and entered into a large cleft or opening within the rock.
Sonar would not penetrate the rock and therefore they could remain hidden until such time as to emerge for a raid...

"No, sir. Nelson was monitoring the sensors along Phase Line Charlie when they picked up some small submarines on passive. Heading into the Interdiction Zone."

"That's part of the problem, sir. They seem to be totally electric, so Nelson will have to keep within 15 klicks to be able to monitor properly."

Aboard Ymir, General Quarters alarms sounded as the miniature suns erupted over the center of People's Anthill.

"All hands brace for shock. Incoming blast wave bearing 149. Brace for shock."

Ymir was particularly vulnerable at the moment, with the drilling boom extended all the way to the sea floor. The Captain turned to the Rigging Officer.

"How much water under the keel, mister?"

"A little over 600 meters, sir."

"Very well." He turned to the radar operator. "What do you have, son?"

"Stand by, sir. Screens are clearing." The Captain gritted his teeth as the technician reset his instruments. "Captain, air search is negative. Surface search shows two waves inbound at 190 kph. The waves are subsiding slowly as they leave the blast area, sir."

"Good work, son." He called to the Petty Officer on the 1MC circuit. "Put this out throughout the ship: Estimated impact with blast waves in 20 minutes. Rig the ship for heavy weather. All hands inside the skin of the ship in 15 minutes."

As the Petty Officer repeated the Captain's announcement, the Rigging Officer asked quietly, "What about the men at the drillhead, sir?"

"There's no time to bring 'em up. Send them the same warning, and order them to lash themselves to the rig until the all-clear sounds."

The Rigging Officer nodded somberly and relayed the orders.

When the waves arrived, Ymir was already turned bow-on, the drilling rig had been raised a hundred meters off the sea floor, and her engines were running at maximum load- with the Variable-Pitch Screws at a neutral angle so the ship was relatively stationary. The waves had decreased in height and speed over the hundred kilometers or so they had traveled. Sensor floats dropped by EOE helicopters ahead of the waves gave Ymir precise data on the wave.

As the broad waves approached, Ymir's VPS blades changed pitch to apply forward thrust to counteract the wave's motion. Computers onboard responded to the waves by rapidly increasing the screw pitch to compensate for the wave pressure.

Aboard Ymir, there was little change in the ship after the waves had passed. She'd been moved a kilometer from her previous position, but there was no visible damage, and no one had been even slighly injured.

The Rigging Officer had a different story to tell. "Captain, this one is a scrub."

The Captain sighed. "I was afraid of that. Is everybody all right down there?"

"One man with a broken arm, a few bruises, but nothing more serious, praise Allah."

"I'm not a believer, but send Him my thanks, too. What else?"

"The force of the waves on the boom has twisted it beyond local repair, sir. We can't even retract the entire assembly."

"Rather what I expected. Very well. Order your crews to start getting the injured personnel on their way back up. Retract the boom as much as possible, then cut away the rest as soon as it is safe to do so. Once everyone's aboard and the boom is cleared and stowed, we'll head back to Kaligrad for repairs."

The Captain turned to the Commo. "Nguyen, get this out to Fleet: Rig damaged beyond local capabilities by blast waves. Recovering crew. One man injured. Returning to Kaligrad for repairs after recovery. Work status on platform 9 is 30% complete. Get me the reply when it comes in."

Aboard Poitier, Admiral Okatu read the message and ordered an acknowledement.

"Once that gets sent to Ymir, make sure that Uller and Freyja take over Ymir's remaining tasks. Get a helo over to Ymir and transfer the bulk of their Rig team to the other ships. We can still finish on schedule if we work this right."

The sailors on the ships, not prepared for such an act of contamination, struggle to pull on their heavy hazmat suits, but most fail and die from the various poisons that have been leaked into the ocean.

The ships drift, no more activity coming from them.

Due to the far greater distance from the blasts, the ships of the 1st Strike Force and the 12th Expedtionary Force barely notice the waves. If anything, the waves appear to be barely visible swells on the surface of the ocean, which the ships ride over without notice.

Once the water grew shallower at the edges of the continents around the Pacific Basin, the waves developed a more forbidding aspect. 10-meter tsnumais lashed the coast of Antarctica, shattering millienium-old ice sheets. The western coasts of South America received a similar visitation, and several South Pacific islands were completely inundated. The damage to the eastern coastline of Australia was equally massive, and only the evacuation order for the southern coasts of Forlorn Hope prevented the loss of hundreds of thousands of lives- in lieu of the few thousand that actually died.

I can't speak for People's Anthill's damages, but here's what happens to the rest of the southern Pacific:

Just take damages from the tsunamis caused by TPA nuking itself, add another 10 meters of height to the wave, and kiss Hawaii, most of Indonesia (and the nearby islands not part of Indonesia), most of Tasmania, and huge chunks of New Zealand and eastern Australia goodbye. The Phillipines , the Korean penninsula, Japan, and most of mainland southeast Asia would be largely protected by the intervening landmasses of the southern Pacific.

The lowlands of This Oughta Do- on the southeastern shores of Forlorn Hope-, will be inundated, all of the rice crop and most of the agricultural workers in the lowlands of the Dominion will be lost, and Zurich (Forlorn Hope's eastern coastline) will lose two major cities.

Cities on Mexico's Pacific coast and in Baja California will receive severe damage, and San Diego California will lose a Navy base and most of the downtown and gaslight districts.

Panama will likely lose the Miraflores Locks, the Bridge of the Americas, and all of Panama City west of Balboa. All of western Costa Rica will be drowned to the foothills, and Nicaragua's inland sea might be opened to the Pacific again. Western Colombia, Chile, and Ecuador will lose all but a few of their largest cities, and more than 50% of their populations with them as the tsunamis scour South America to the foothills of the Andes.

As an aside, several Kelvinisgrad minisubs and three EOE attack submarines will certainly be destroyed.

Minimal. The majority of the nukes were shot down by the automatic missile-defence system. One nuke did, however, breach the defences and did severe structural damage to a 10km radius of the Anthill structure, causing the loss of one-half of several Anthill sections (the functional semi-autonomous subsections that the Anthill is divided into, with their own factories, breeding chambres, dormitories, etc., allowing immense redundancy throughout the entire system).

His Omniferocity's government sent your government a telegram outlining the minimum conditions under which People's Anthill and the Dominion could have peace. Your government was invited to respond, and then urged in subsequent telegrams to reply. To date, there has been no response from People's Anthill.

His Omniferocity's government has further urged other governments at war with People's Anthill to refrain from using weapons of mass destruction, due to His Omniferocity's distaste for such weapons as well as the immense damage caused all around the Pacific basin by their use.

The preliminary work for installing the monitoring system around People's Anthill (outside TPA territory) has finally been completed- at great exepnse and not without loss of life due to other nations' insistence on using WMD. With preparations complete, His Omniferocity calls on People's Anthill one last time to respond to the generous terms for peace.

If People's Anthill has not responded within two days (<OOC> real time- that means by Sunday afternoon </OOC>), then His Omniferocity will assume that People's Anthill is not interested in peace under any circumstances, and will destroy People's Anthill.

Any nations with diplomatic ties with People's Anthill are encouraged to contact TPA and urge them to reply before the deadline.

Acoustic and seismic sensors are now in place in 34 locations around People's Anthill- all of them outside TPA national territory and most of them outside TPA national waters. The nearest sensor platform is 54 kilometers from TPA's border, and the farthest is nearly 230 kilometers.

All of the sensors are linked by cable to transceivers located on seamounts outside TPA national waters. EOE personnel will periodically maintain the sensor platforms as needed with prior notice to officials of the People's Anthill government. As agreed, unarmed People's Anthill monitors will be permitted to observe the maintenance and testing of all sensor platforms within TPA national waters.

With the activation of the sensor grid, all EOE military units are returning to their normal peacetime duties. For the Dominion, this war is over.
