Ancient RP
This RP is set at the time of the hight of the Roman Empire. However there is no Roman Empire. In fact Dworniev does not exist yet.
It is the land of the Ukrainian Trident. The opressive empire of Coltrien rules with an iron fist. However, revolutions are frequent in this land, and war is the norm. For the first time however Coltrien is at a disadvantage. Several groups have popped up in different regions to overturn the czar. Instead of fighting against each other and the empire the have formed an alliance, the Alliance for Free Ukraine. The armies shall be small comparitively, but are fair.
The different factions are:
Coltrien: 2 million men in army, well trained.
Catholic Resistence: Bobaria
Hebrew Alliance: Swordmasters of Ginaz
Muslim Uprising: Blood Elves
Tridentians: Trailers
Durov's: Sniper Country
Warrior/Slave Army: Five Civilized Nations
I will act as Coltrien. The Catholic Resistence has a lot of spirit, but not good military skills, 500,000 men at their disposal. The Hebrew Alliance has more military skill, but less spirit and men, 450,000 men at their disposal. The Muslim Uprising has great fighting skill and many men, but not as much spirit. 550,000 men at their disposal. The Tridentians are average in military, spirit, and numbers, 475,000 men at their disposal.
The Durov's have very little men and fighting capabilities but very high spirit, 300,000 men at their disposal.
P.S. Spirit means moral
OOC: I'll be out for a bit, but post if you're interested, and which nation you want to be. No tech thats not from around this time (will let you get away with some Middle Age equipment) This would be a fun RP. People with fewer numbers in real NS will be pleased to know that doesn't count, because they're different nations.

Now,might I inquire. What do the Trident forces have in the way of navy, and siege weaponry?
Very small navy, its a band of rebels, maby 2-3 ships, and you can make up the siege weaponry as long as you don't get out of hand with numbers or technology.

Will you still be able to RP on this?
You make up the muslim military, as long as you keep it in reason, in your boundaries, and in the correct time. Also no fantasy things like elves or orcs, that message is to everyone.
We need a nation for the Hebrew Alliance.

Coltrien Imperial Footmen march outside the capitol city of Brien. This 100,000 man strong army marches across the countryside looking for rebels. They go to villages, any that are not cooperative are burnt to the ground.

Over the years, the slaves and gladiators have been badly treated by their Corien overlords... They have been continuously plotting to overthrow their yolk... They are led by a freed gladiator, Thran Ackran, whose hatred for Corien is very great...
[This is SC]
The Durovs, deciding to operate in smaller groups of around 100, spread all around the countrysides, taking up places in forrests, villages, and anywhere else. They were determined to fight the Coltriens. They were armed with maces, bows, and swords, and wherever they would stop, would try to get blacksmiths to build more for them. They were poor, but knew they would have to all band together in order to bring down the enemy.
The men march on and on without any luck. However they reach a Tridentian village that was most cooperative after a little "persuasion".
A Footman enters the generals room. "Sir, all the women and children have had their arms cut off. The men seem to want to cooperate." The general did not seem surprised at all.
"Well, I thought that would happen. Noone likes to be the cause of needless slaughter. I guess that taught them that if you don't reach out your helping hands to the Coltrein government, you won't reach out again."
"What do want us to do now sir?"
"Gather up the town leaders. Lets see how much information they are willing to give."
Five Civilized Nations

In a forest near the attacked town:
"Sir, the enemy has cut off the arms of the women and children... Now they're interrogating the town leaders..."
"Damn thos Coltrien sligs to hell. Form up the company and attack those Coltriens. Slaughter those bastards..."
"Happily sir..."
"We're finally striking a blow."
--Thran Ackran
The town leaders were all gathered in a small cramped room with dim lighting. The general walks foward as says out front. "Gentlemen, give me locations of the rebels, or you and your town will be burnt to the ground. Your response?"
In the woods about three hundred yards away from the Tridentian village, a band of Durovian soldiers waited. They knew the Tridentians were powerful, and could be a great power to fight the Coltriens. There were 100 Durovs in the band, twenty of them armed with bows. The others had assorted swords and maces. The bowmen took up line just inside the treeline, and aimed accurately at the Coltrien soldiers walking about. The swordsmen and macemen were just twenty yards behind them, ready to fight it out in their home- the woods. They were confident in their archers, as the Durovs were known for their accuracy in hunting with bows.

--Oops,I thought above attack was on a Tridentian encampment.--
The town leader shuddered as he looked upon his very embodyment of fear.He cowered some and managed to stammer out."I..dont know.."
Before the townsmen could respond a soldier entered the room. "Sir, Rebels are camped outside the town!"
"Damn, get your men in the Defensive Position! Now!" The general ran ot the door and mounted his horse. He had a good 5,000 men in this town, but he was a bit nervous. He rode hard to the edge of town, where his men were positioned. He dismounted. "Prepare for a charge. Get those shields up, you want to get hit by arrows!" As he said that a soldier fell, his helmet pierced with an arrow. "Damnit! Shields up now!"
OOC: Remember you guys are all allies
The archers let go with their arrows at the enormous ammount of men lined up at the edge of the village. There were only 100 of them, but they were determined to fight to the death. As the arrows flew away, the archers took ten steps backwards, and reloaded their arrows. The swordsmen and macemen took their positions hiddent from the enemy behind downed trees and huge piles of brush. They were ready to kill and be killed.

OOC:Arda,I corrected that.
"Get some light horses out there now! Take out those archers! I want a mercenary charge to cover them. Do it now!" The general watched the horses charge, running through the archers. The mercenaries charged out onto the battle field. General Karev loved watching the mercenaries fall in battle. But something was wrong, they weren't falling.

And suddenly, some 150 villiagers threw off their cloaks, revealing swords and crossbows ov various types, they immediatly began to attack the soldiers around them.At the same time, several of those bowmen lit their bolts aflame and let fly.Hence signaling the calvary which began to advance.
There were men all around them now. The rebels had the advantage of surprise, but these were elite foot soldiers. The general had been in this situation before and so had the other soldiers he gave his soldiers the order to form a square, and they did it with precision. The coltrien square was a deadly thing and the villagers were having a very difficult thing. Expierianced cavalry generals quickly met the cavalry charge, and the mercenaries were getting paid to kill rebels, and so thats what they did.
[How many dudes are headed for my men?]
There are 5,000 men in the town, 100 cavalry, 500 mercenaries, and 4,400 elite soldiers, in the town.
[Okay, but I need to know how many guys are attacking mine.]
Well we had the 600 mercenaries and cavalry chasing after your men, but after the Tridentians attacked my men the cavalry and 200 mercenaries turned to fight them. So you have 400 mercenaries who can not be bribed again(unless you pay a real high sum, we are an empire you know) chasing after you.
[Thanks.]
The archers let go of their second volley at the 400 mercenaries, and then retreated back to fifty yards behind the others. They threw down their bows, and drew their daggers. The swordsmen and macemen were well hid, and simply waited for the mercenaries to draw closer.
The mercenaries couldn't help but laugh at the the Durov's daggers, until they met with them. Although the archers fought bravely they can not withstand the numerous mercenaries.
OOC: I asume, you said you only had like 25 bowmen, and some must have gone down before, you can change if you like, just so its not really godmoding, I would hate to do that.

The crossbowmen were firing almost completely on the enemies calvary, while the infantry dissappeared into the woods.Civilians began to abandon or take up arms immediatly.
As the mercenaries surged past, the swordsmen and macemen burst up from the trees and brush, right into the backs of the mercenaries. They would not go down without a fight.
General Karov was beginning to feel outflanked. "Get some pilum to take out those crossbows, and I want an infantry charge to help those mercenaries. Colonel, take 1,000 of your men and destroy this town. Major take another thousand and take out any infantry that oppose us, and help that cavalry! We want this to be organized. No one breaks ranks for a second!"
The officers did what they were told. The towns people put up a good fight even when the soldiers set fire to their homes it seemed to make them fight even harder. Still, the Coltrien ranks did not break. 500 men went out to aid the mercenaries. The Durov soldiers giving these men hell, but they were fighting a losing battle. These men outnumbered them and were the elite of the army. The pilum broke the knees and punctured the chests of many a crossbowman. What was left of the cavalry, about 25 men gave chase to any enemy who broke their ranks, picking them off quickly.

While this slaughter took place,it would be noted that the townsmen had set fire to the outer homes of the villiage, trapping the enemy in a ring of fire.A few hundred civilians lost for countless eleite of their opressors was asmall price to pay for those whose families had already been consumed in this skirmish.
General Karov sent another 400 men to attack the townspeople. They had trapped some of the elites in a ring of fire. These men threw their spears into the crowd of townspeople, while others flew fire arrows into the surrounding buildings. The townspeople scattered but were surrounded on all sides.

Thran Ackran leading twenty gladiators wielding trident, battleaxes, swords, pikes, knife, and an assortment of other weapons suddenly appear around General Karov and his guard...taking them by surprise...

OOC: There was no Islam for about 200 years after the Fall of Rome. Or maces for a bit after that. Just thought you might want to know.
Also no Land of the Ukrainian Trident or Coltrien, but I thought it would be fun to have 3 religious factions.
[Dworniev, please post your losses from my guys, realistically, of course.]
Ok so there were 100 men against 1000 Coltrien elites. Your men had maces and swords, and bows, and daggers, and the Coltriens had spears and swords. Lets say about 15 died from cavalry an mercenary charges (your men, this is an estimate). However your men did have a lot of spirit, I'd say 36 men killed or wounded, 4 missing. (This is for the Durov fighters)
Town fighting: Lets say about 500 towns people, a rough estimate. Add this to the gladiator attack (FCN please don't list my casualties I'll let this slip but don't do that again) 1,400 elites vs. 900 opposing force. About 600 men killed or wounded in this part of the battle. 58 captured or missing, including General Karov. Add another50 for his guards so thats 708 men out of the 1,400 elites.
Cavalry/crossbow men: I'm not sure how to compute this but I know we lost about 85 men in the 100 man cavalry division, and about 32 Pilum throwers.
That bring our total casualties to a total of: 865 men. Remember these are the elite units of the army.
All of the Durovian soldiers died in the Coltrien retaliation.
Deep within the forrests, nearly a hundred miles away, fifteen thousand Durovian soldiers waited for orders to attack a nearby Coltrien encampment. The encampment was small, an estimated twelve thousand soldiers stationed there, to look over a few small villages in the valley. The men ready to attack were armed with swords, maces, bows, daggers, and the occasional battle ax. Under the command of Commander Reethius Burgess, they were ready to attack at a moment's notice.
The men who had been fighting the Durov's did an about face right into Thran Ackran and his gladiators. They had seen them slaughter the guards and take General Karov. They did not like him in particular, but this was a matter of pride. Also the another 1,000 reserves marched into the smoldering remains of the town. They knew that their enemy would fight to the end, but they marched bravely into battle knowing that this might be these might be their last moments alive. The soldiers expertly threw their spears into the mass of enemy forces. Then in a tight, well moving phalanx, the reserves marched forward.
[So how many of your guys died at our hands in that last attack?]
The word came in to prepare for an attack. The enemy encampment was lightly fortified, which they hoped would make their mission that much easier. They lined up nearly a hundred yards into the forests, and watched the enemy base, nearly 600 yards away. The archers, all 1500 of them, stood in front. They began to walk slowly to the edge of the forests, 500 yards away from the enemy. They knew their bows would only reach 450 yards, and knew they would have to get out to about 400 yards to make their shots effective. Only a hundred yards behind them, the 13500 swordsmen, macemen, and axemen prepared for their sprint out to the enemy base. The archers moved forward out of the trees, in a fast jog to within 400 yards of the base. The others lined up at the edge of the trees. Only 5000 would charge out first. The others would lie in wait, out of sight of the enemy in the trees.
The Coltrien encampment had no idea of the slaughter that waited for them. They drank and ate, sang and were dancing. Most were unarmed, and all but a few sentrys were out of their armor. They were blissful, but that was soon to change.
OOC: I already posted that we lost 40 men to your hundred
[Thanks, sorry, hehe.]
[Last post of the night, Cross Country meet tomorrow!]
The archers got to around 375 yards from the enemy encampment. They were scared crapless, as theis was the first time they had ever been in battle. They raised their bows, with just around one hundred lighting theirs aflame. They released their arrows at the base, while the first wave of troops charged in a dead sprint towards the base. They did not cry the Cry of War, but instead made their way up, each praying to God that they would make it through the up and coming battle. The next 7000-man wave waited to see what would come of the battle, and to see if they would be needed. The other 1500 simply sat in the darkness, as they would be there only if the enemy forced a retreat. The battle ensued...
A lone sentry heard rustling in the bushes by the encampment. He moved forward to check it out. He moved closer to the area where the sound was made. Before he could react, an arrow shot out of nowhere, hitting him in the leg. He cried out "Ambush!" and another arrow shot out hitting him in the chest. He would be the first of many casualties. Now there was a panic in the camp. Arrows shot out at the men scrambling to find there weapons and armor. A few groups formed and made frantic charges at the archers, but those that weren't wiped out by the hail of arrows were cut to pieces by the awaiting infantry.
OOC: that was my last post too, I just gotta go to bed. I'm a wimp, I can't stay up too late.

Thran Ackran seeing him and his men surrounded, threatened General Karov...
"If you don't call your men off, you're a dead men..."
Karov, although brave, didn't want to die and quickly gestured for the men to move out of the way.
Thran led his men out of the encirclement and disappeared into the forest... The Coltrien soldiers unwilling to risk the life of their commander did not give chase... In the depth of the forest, Thran Ackran cut Karov's jugular with his knife, leaving him to bleed to death...
--The Legend of Thran Ackran by Armand Messaline
Colonel Forn stuck his spear in a pile of bodies. It was a victory for the Coltriens, but a costly one. Out of the 4,400 men that had fought, over 100 were dead, missing, or wounded. Their general had shown a sign of weakness and let the enemy escape. He wopuld be killed for that, and one of his subordinates would take over. Just then a rider pulled up to him. "Colonel, a camp about 100 miles that way was ambushed last night. We have orders from the emperor for you to meet up with the rest of the Elite Footmen."
Colonel Forn gave the order and the small company of men marched away from the remaining embers of the town.

Thran Ackran's top lieutenant, Armand Messaline and a force of about 850 mounted archers, pikemen and swordsmen gazed out from a cliff over the marching Coltrien forces... A scout rides up and reports to Messaline.
"Sir, a force of 1500 Durovians are attacked an enemy encampment about 100 miles North... Those Coltriens below us are marching to save that camp..."
Dismissing the scout, Messaline said to his lieutenants, "Hmm... Interesting... Lieutenant Char Vanson, how many Coltriens do you reckon the enemy has marching away?"
"About 4000..."
"We don't have enough to stop them..."
"Sir, there is a group of Islamic Jihad fighters near here. We can work with them and Durovians to destroy this Coltrien army..."
"Do it..."
--From the Memoirs of Armand Messaline
As the soldiers ran up to the edge of the camp, torches were thrown al around the small walls, in order to either kill the enemy slowly, or to flush them out. As the small fires started, five hundred macemen quickly scaled the smaller walls, and ran screaming their horrible Calls of War. They clashed with the enemy men, as the archers, who had closed in to 300 yards, fired another round of arrows.

A force of 800 Islamic Jihad fighters led by Hamad Assad, gazed out from the surrounding forest towards the burning Coltrien encampment.
"Sire, the Durovians have attacked the Coltriens... Should we assist?"
"No, they have the situation under control..."
Suddenly a messenger is announced...
"Sire, the former slave Armand Messaline has sent a messenger..."
"Bring him up."
The messenger walks over and says, "Lord Assad, a massive Coltrien force of about 4000 is marching towards here... Lord Messaline is leading a force to wipe them out, and would like your assistance..."
"Tell Messaline, that we will be there."
The messenger rides off. One of Assad's lieutenants rides up and questions, "Are we really going to help Messaline?"
"No..."
--Hamad Assad
OOC: Actually we're marching away from there.
IC: Colonel Forn and the rest of his staff were marching in front of the group. A rider comes foward, riding quickly. "Sir, we're five minutes away from another 5,000 men, and are ten minutes away from the main army."
"Good, increase marching speed!"
OOC: Treachery, I like it! :P
Seemingly as soon as it started it was over. Men lay dead everywhere; screams of pain surrounded the wind. Ingulfed in this was the rich smell of fresh blood, the smell undescribable by the people who were there. The Coltriens who were not dead or wounded were being rounded up, and the wounded ones were either put out of their misery or left to suffer. Buildings were now smoldering ashes, as the archers now had a large perimeter around the base. They were moving quick as a fox, in order to make out before the enemy Coltriens were to arrive. Gold, food, weapons, ale, and other items of use were looted from various buildings. A group of nearly a hundred Coltrien soldiers were rounded up and sent into a rather large building. The building was locked, as torches were thrown all around it. Screams of horror and fear struck out through the air, as the Durovian men shouted with joy. They quickly made their way back into the woodlands, and began making their way all the way back to Forrset- the Durovian Resistance homeland.
Colonel Forn's men had met up with the second company, and then the main army. They took refuge in a nearby Coltrien city, in order to rest and get supplies. Because of the Durov ambush, nightly watches and patrols were increased 75%, and every soldier had to stay in their armor.

***Shadowing Forn's Force***
Armand Messaline and his force of 850 men were marching to attack Forn’s force, when a force of 500 Coltriens and 600 Islamic Jihad Fighters led by Hamad Assad ambushed them. Islamic Jihad and Coltrien archers fired into the midst of the gladiator/slave army. Over 170 were killed or wounded by the initial attack. Messaline took three arrows in the shoulder and one in the back. Badly wounded, Messaline rallied his men into phalanx formation and wheeling around began attacking the ambushers. But the losses that the gladiator/slave army had suffered were too great. A Coltrien cavalry attack on the right flank, causing massive disarray. Messaline was cuffed in the head by a pike. A force of 136 gladiators and slaves were surrounded by the Islamic Jihad Fighters and were forced to surrender. Rallying the survivors, Messaline led them in a retreat into the forest, leaving the dead and wounded behind. Messaline had lost over 251 men captured and 382 men killed.
The wounded Messaline and his badly demoralized force of 217 men joined up with another gladiator/slave force of 450 men, bringing his force to a total of 667 men... Gazing out at the Coltrien fortress of Duamzi, Messaline swore…
“Damn Islamic Jihad… I’ll kill you traitors, if it’s the last thing I do…”
