OOC Reflections on RF/WU war:
Esamopia

OOC:
Before the fight, Esamopia had arranged for West Ukraine and RF to agree on a tentative plan, in which West Ukraine would be incorporated by RF but be granted autonomy, much like the Hong Kong/ People's Republic of China plan. Although WU accepted (to my great shock,) RF refused!! (Again, to my great shock... I thought it would be the other way around.)
Anyway, the conflict itself was easy enough... RF has engaged in far too many wars recently, and the toll of Soviet invasions and how they went directly against communist ideology (Imperialism is the proper domain of capitalist fools... heh,) and was not doing so well. Although he claimed 60% control of West Ukraine, the fact that so many anti-RF nations was gathering, not to mention in some instances invading RF's homeland, due to the heavy troop investment in West Ukraine, was clearly breaking RF's strength. Furthermore, the Marxist Pact was clearly overrated primarily because of two things. 1. Marxist Pact did not hear or respond too well to RF's requests. 2. The reason for this was likely that RF had initiated the conflict, and at one point had begged for help. (A link can be provided to the begging quote, but we do not believe it to be necessary.) Anyway, RF's strategic position was clearly losing fast and he finally telegrammed WU in order for a peace settlement.
At this juncture, we were in some deep thought. Esamopia is largely pacifist, we abhore constant territorial conflicts, yet we were embarassed by RF refusal of the first treaty and were hoping that the bad RP-er (I'm sorry but saying... we invade such and such with such and such troops and putting a communist picture is not really RP-ing,) RF would finally be defeated... at which point we could all point and laugh. This was discarded, however, because we thought it best to continue our appeals for peace, which finally culminated in direct RF and WU negotiations (RF was finally seeing the losing struggle for what it was.)
We were encouraged by this call for peace, and we liked the unique way that the "referendum" was finally held. Personally we thought that West Ukraine would simply declare referendum results, heavily in favor of WU, and we would not blame him for that, seeing that a theoretical WU population, devestated by RF invasion, would clearly vote against. The fact that the referendum was only decided 51-49 poses interesting scenarios on what would have happened had the scales tipped the other way. Regardless, before the referendum, many allies of both sides (who were not involved in any peace negotiations,) had been warmongering, some invading RF, but the clear fact that they had lost legitimacy and that RF forces were no longer pinned everywhere finally put an end to that.
So what have we learned? RF should hold off on major attacks in the near future. Whitter is Esamopia's friend! (For fighting the war against RF which we financed,) and West Ukraine has some interesting ways to go (either a communist revolution, coalition govt (51-49 vote,) or just some stability for a while after this madness!!)
As for Esamopia, we will continue to try to bring peace everywhere... despite the costs. Fun RP overall!

Hey now... easy with the apes, any way more reflections:
With this being one of the most recent struggles, essentially between communism and capitalism, is anyone willing to create a coalition of armed neutrals? We'd be happy to join them...
Humans kill humans because they are the top of the food chain, with no natural predators, so they invent reasons that "That guy is worse than me and needs to have his head bashed in"

That's why you should have been involved!! Heh... it was a decent RP, I guess, but what about the idea for an alliance of armed neutrals, who would "keep the peace" and try to diffuse Commie/Capitalizt tensions... or at least defend each other and not get involved in those messes?

This was the only way to do it.
It was suggested to have a third party role some dice.
But none of us has any way to physically see that person role the dice. For all we know, he could say he roled them but actually just grab a number out of his ... Or he could claim neutrality but actually have bias toward one of the two sides as this war was very heated both IC and apparently ooc.
I have a program on my calculator to generate random numbers but there are problems there too. One, again no one can actually see me get the numbers. Two, no one would be able to ensure that I inputed the right parameters. And there are other problems with this method.
So I choose a referendum in the forum. With each nation not voting as a nation but as a surrogate for West Ukrainian voters.
During the vote, negotiations with RF were ongoing. Resulting in agreement to further talks and an RF withdrawal.
During the referendum, RF and WU signed the first NS treaty to ban the use of mercenaries.
WestUkraine
26-09-2003, 04:55
The treaty banned all mercenaries from the conflict zone and gave them 30 days to leave Ukraine and Russian Forces territories or be treated as terrorists. It also asked nations involved in the conflict to stop using mercenaries.
WestUkraine

We had hoped more nations would sign on to the antimercenary treaty but none did.

OOC+ICC: You fool, how many times must I say it? I am a COMMUNIST nation, although I am hoping to create a third way... sort of like Yugoslavia when the Soviet Union was around.
Perhaps I was a bit harsh on your bad RP skills, that was just because I wanted you to come and reply to this thread... it actually works smoothly when you put a few pictures, especially the map of Ukraine, to do attacks.
