A small number of Ralish merchants who, if it's not utterly unrealistic, have travelled to Shangia are curious as to the nature of resources that might be found in these lands, and as to the natives' understanding of concepts such as commerce and trade.
A few slender and reasonably tall, bronze-skinned men draped in primarily blue and white fabrics may be seen wandering the lands with camels and ox-carts. Their beasts laden with metal trinkets, opiates, knives, wines, foodstuffs, dyes, and fabrics they sometimes stop to gather and discuss local flora, or to observe fauna. The make camps with tents and small fires at night, and trudge about seeking communication and trade by day.
Shangians are very small creatures. Barely the size of your thumb.

Heh, good lord. Well.. it seems likely.. that the unwitting traders will look to found an outpost of the great and good Ralish Empire in these deserted lands over which they now treck..
A significant camp is erected, and merchants race home to bring word- the Empire must make official its claim to these empty lands!
(ooc:feel free to stop me if you prefer, but.. it seems to make sense from our point of view, no?)
