OOC: Pulse Jets

What good is a pulse detonation engine... i could never find out what they were for. I know what it is, basically, but I don't know what it does. Does it save fuel or something? Or does it generate more force

The reason I ask is because I might use them IC

I've been reading up on them, its very exciting.
I'll save trying to explain how it works and give you some websites so you can read about it yourself:

I hope those links are useful.

K, tell me how close I am.

From the pics I've seen, An engine has say, 6 outlets... the fuel detonates instead of deflagerating, and basically they go around in a circle of detonations propelling the plane using less fuel but getting more force, and so basically it's just a series of detonating pulses, rotatingaround really fast looking like one big stream.. like a laser or a vulcan kinda... I think I get it...

YesWell that seems pretty gosh darn simple... how come we didn't think of this, like, 50 years ago? :)

Well the actual process of a pulse jet did exist and has done since the early work (Ok in the form of single chamber systems), it's just that getting the thing to work right and get materials to make full use of the process is difficult.

#tag# for future reference.

How much more fuel efficient are they over the normal jet engines, and how much force do they output?

The exact details on that are being tightly controlled by the companies developing the engines... proprietary knowledge and all that good stuff. However, the comparison I've heard is like the difference between props and jets.

They did do this - the German Buzz Bomb was pulse detonation. The PopSci link above is the best worded of the articles. It was pretty cool.

IC - Wolfish developed the Scorpion Cruise Missile using this tech.

IC - I am selling planes that use hybrid pulse detonation jets (normal jet engines with pulse jets in the bypass-air duct) that boost the maximum speed of these planes to well over anything that can be achieved with regular turbofan engines. A link to the storefront is below.

<->Well srry but i actually have a freggin patent on that tech, about a month ago or so i posted one where i stated using pusle tech and patend it.

If I remember correctly, no one nation can "patent" technology that is in development IRL in NS... even so, you could only really "patent" the specific engines that your nation builds. If others of us (note, my country has been using hybrid PDEs for some time now) develop it on our own and use a different engine, that's a tough call on your part.

1) We were never aware of your patent.
2) We do not have a link to a message announcing the patent.
3) We are not required to honor your patent.
4) We develpoed our technology independently, and you cannot patent our technology.
5) Previous post.

well all the stuff you guys are saying contradicts alot of the people in ns and all, but i was just announcing that i had a patent on it, and i dont really care if you use it or not, i was jsut being specific.
