The DP1 Drop Pod
This circular pod is designed to be dropped from altitudes of under 50,000 feet. It can survive a water landing easily, and can carry anything, ranging from people to explosives. When dropped onto solid ground from an altitude of 10,000ft or higher, the pod will shatter, possibly completely destroying anything within the pod.
Outer Radius: 50ft
Inner Radius: 40ft
Tube Radius: 10ft
Construction: 4 Karat Gold Reflective Plating, .5" Steel Inner Construction
Cost: $15,000 USD Each
Reverse-Engineering: NO! YOU WILL BE CHARGED IF I FIND YOU REVERSE ENGINEERING!
shiny things attract attention, that is bad in a combat scenario
Shiny things are also hard to shoot at, because they reflect lasers, and you can't look at shiny things during the day, and you can't see them at night :)
What if it's cloudy and I have a Shilka?

Laser POINTERS, maybe...
and you can't look at shiny things during the day
Why? Do you turn into stone or something?
and you can't see them at night :)
It's going to be emitting some heat, so IR can pick it up. Not to mention radar.
Well, considering these things are either going to be dropped into the ocean from over 10,000 ft... and it's over 50,000 pounds... a) You wouldn't be able to hit it with a missile, because no heat is given b) It falls too fast to hit it normally c) The chances of actually hitting something inside of the half inch thick steel walls is really low.

A) Any type of laser is optics. Even energy lasers would be reflected, because all they are are highly-concentrated optics.
B) It's sunny out. It'd be worse than looking at the sun.
C) How much heat is a few tons of C4 going to be giving off, exactly?

~~~$15,000 Recieved~~~ Your pod will be flown in on top of a C-17 transport.
a) Yes, some heat is given. And who said anything about heat-seeking missiles? There could be radar-guided missiles, laser-guided, etc.
b) Define "too fast". Because it has to accelerate. Also, if it's dropping that fast, when it hits the water, its contents are going to be destroyed, whether the pod holds up or not.
c) Oh no! Not a whole... half inch. Do me a favor. Seriously, go find a ruler. Then look how thick a half an inch is. Even if the steel conetnts were not destroyed from weapons fire, the drop pod would give and out comes the contents.
Exactly how much heat is given? I would certainly think not enough to be a big threat.
Too fast, accelerating fast enough to have bullets shot from a mile away miss it. It wouldn't necessarily get destroyed, either. Seatbelts, & foam covered in kevlar padding :).
It wouldn't necessarily give out, either. If the person who buys it is smart enough to section off the pod, you would be able to eject the certain part that gave out.
2 words.... drop box :)
5 times as expensive, but 50 times more usefu. :)
But you need fuel.They are one time use.
Mine are multi-use, as long as they aren't damaged. If they are damaged, they can be used as mines :P
Mines that would be easily detected because of their high metallic content...
Doesn't matter... if they're loaded to the brim with explosives/C4........ then the shockwaves will still be damaging... so will the shrapnel...
OK, that's my last plug :)
Except no ship with halfway decent mine detection gear would get anywhere near it.
*Shrug* It's a drop pod, it's decently resistant, it has it's pros and cons, so be it. I won't argue anymore :P
