Small scale jungle war (RP ) Good RPers wanted

23-09-2003, 23:53
Background:

Nimbata is a nation liberated from communism 4 years ago and is located exactly where RL Burma is. The nation is the midst of a communist uprising that has taken a large proportion of the North and is ever increasing in strength; currently the nations of Ferrussia, Kahtan and Thirtycaliber are fighting alongside the Nimbatan military in trying to repel the communist guerillas of the Nimbata Liberation Army (NLA)

http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=60285

For over twenty years Nimbata’s sole external territory has been the region of Sarawak located to the West of Brunei on the island of Borneo. Nimbata has decreased its military presence in the area since the downfall of the old regime and has since signed a deal to guarantee protection to Brunei in return for a percentage of significant oil revenues.

The Sultanate of Royal Brunei is a tiny nation of only 350,000 people yet has an extremely high GDP because of oil and gas reserves. Brunei has always accepted that it is not powerful enough to defend itself alone and has either been under British protection or more recently under Nimbatan protection.

Nimbatan State Broadcasting Service:

"...Fellow Nimbatans we have I’m afraid more terrible news. The Nimbatan overseas territory of Sarawak has fallen to communist control. Although information is sketchy it seems that several military units amounting to some 15,000 troops simultaneously declared their allegiance to the NLA and executed all members of the regional governing council in the state capital of Kuching in a calculated but brutal takeover. It is expected that communist guerilla troops will now start entering the province from the lawless areas of Southern Borneo where the NLA has presumably been gathering its strength.

Bruniean Defence officials have said that a single rifle battalion (4,000 or so men) and approximately 20 planes that were still loyal to the democratic Nimbatan government have escaped North across the border to the Sultanate which is supposed to be under Nimbatan protection. It is as yet unclear how the government in Rangoon will respond as the military is already much overstretched, facing massive morale problems, and the nation’s future is effectively depending on foreign military assistance.”

OOC: This is going to be a low intensity Special Forces based jungle war and will be running parallel to the main civil war thread.

There are three nations involved thus far:

NLA and Nimbata controlled by me and Royal Brunei who is a friend of mine. While this has no pre planned outcome we must stress that in order to participate you must first ask permission from one of us stating approximate numbers of units or money and the side which you intend to assist. Only after receiving permission can your nation take part in this conflict. Failure to follow these guidelines will result in you being ignored. (This is all basically to stop somebody sending 10,000 planes and ruining it, that’s not what this war is about.)

You do not have to be involved in the man war to take part in this conflict.

The government of the Sultanate has been thrown into crisis today following the communist take over in a neighbouring land. While officially we have no wish in getting involved in a war with the Nimbatan Liberation Army, our armed forces have been put on alert in case the NLA have any intention of attacking Brunei. Covertly however we are requesting covert foreign forces to assist Nimbata in regaining control of Sarawak. It is important that any foreign force must be of an unofficial nature as officially our nation is a nonparticipaint in what is effectively a civil war.

United Elias as long been an economic partner of Nimbata and while we have not provided military assistance on the mainland we feel that as this situation is more low profile we can offer forces to aid Nimbata and Royal brunei.

With the permission of the Bruniean government we will land 2 An-225s (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=64942&highlight=) which will be painted in civilain colours so not to attract attention. They will be carrying a total of five EA-28G helicopters (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=66401), and a total of 120 personnel including 80 members of the Special Reconaissance Service (SRS) all of whom have been extensively trained at the Army's jungle warfare training facility in Seversky.

Ferrussia

While Ferrussia is heavily involved in the mainland battle, we do not feel we have the populace's support to launch yet another operation against NLA troops. The People's Republic of Ferrussia wishes well to Nimbata and any neighbors who may feel the negative effects of the NLA's constant battle against the rightful Nimbatan government, and wishes them well in containing the spread of this renegade group.

Once again, we are deeply sorry, but popular opinion on the mainland war is low enough that we do not feel additional deployments would be possible. Our particular blessing is sent to United Elias, more than just a friend and (recently) partner in trade, their great nation is respected by the government and people of Ferrussia.

Best of luck to you all.

"You have the latest data on the situation in Burneo?" Asked KGB chief Michaelov

An man in a dark suit handed the chief a bunch of papers.

"Very well that will be all..."

President Malcom was reading the casualty reports from the Nuclear Disaster in the south west of the Soviet Union. KGB Chief Michaelov walked in at that point.

"MIchaelov, I have been reading your papers on the Popular Citizens uprising in Nimbata. You feel we should intervene and help the Popular movement?"

"Indeed Mr. President, the Soviet can dispatch several teams to assist the brave rebels in their just cause..."

"They are half way round the world Michaelov. I do not want a war with a nation halfway around the world. The Logistics would be a nightmare and the losses would not set very well with a population that just suffered a nuclear disaster. Now. We can assist in other ways. I want you to send in a specialist to determine what the Brave fighters need and if it is possiable for us to assist with-out being discovered. Then have him report back to the Inner Soviet in 1 month. But mark my words, Michalov, if he is captured, the Inner Soviet will claim no responsiability and your man will be on his own. He can expect NO help from the Soviet."

Michalov walked out at that point to carry out the Presidents instructions.

Nimbatan State Broadcasting Service:

Correspondent live from Sarawak, on the phone:

" I am in Kuching, the regional capital of this once free and prosperous Nimbatan state (not really) where the NLA have begun to take over the government, local officials have been shot in Red Square, tanks have been patrolling the streets and apparently hordes of NLA guerilla soldiers have been crossing the Southern border to reinforce the defected amry units. I am taliking to you from my house in the outskirts and I think they still dont know im here but I recon this is the last broadcast I make, since everyone to do with the central government is being killed or imprisoned. It is unclear how much support the NLA have here but people are certainly obeying their instructions either through terror or favor....Im sorry I have to go now and try and get out somehow before they find me..."

At the Royal Bruneian Airbase:

For the last two days the special force shad been setting up a small base on the airfield. A few barracks buildings and a command building had been put up and the helicopters had been allocated a hangar.

The twelve memebers of Covert Assault Team 9 sit around in green fold up chairs in the brifieng tent as the Colonel enters

"Good Afternoon guys, okay we've got a job for you. Tonight at 22:00 a pair of EA-28Gs will insert all twelve of you about 15 clicks into Sarawak.
This mission is set to last around twelve days and the main objective is to aquire as much information on the local area as possible." he turned to Gunnery Sergeant Kassam who was the team leader. "Gunny you decide where you go, if you can get into a town without getting killed then do so. We want to know how much manpower the communists have, the reaction of the local population is to them and basically find out all the stuff we need to know in order to beatthese people.

We need you to report every single day at both dawn and dusk and make sure you stay stealthy. If you should come in conatct with the enmey some captives might be useful for information. Be careful though, becuase if you get into trouble don't expect any help. This mission and you need to remain absolutely deniable because if the NLA finds out the Bruneians are getting foreigners to wage war against them, its highly likely they'll face full scale war."

The two EA-28 Special Forces Helicopters (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=66401) were on the tarmac ready at 21:40, their rotors spinning and minigun pods mounted on the fueselage.

The operatives of Covert Assault Team 9 walked out carrying packs of equipment and their weapons. Opening the doors to the passenger compartment they mounted the choppers, six men in each.

The Pilot of the first helicopter looked behind his seat recieving a thumbs up from the gunnery sergeant. He then increased the collective and the helicopter took off into the rather thunderous and rainy sky, shortly followed by the second.

___________________________________

Thirty minutes later the helicopters travelling just above the treeline crossed the border.

"Gunny, get your team ready, we'll be at the LZ in six minutes. Gonna be wet Im afraid."

"Thank you sir, appreciate the warning."

__________________________________

Six minutes later the, clearing they were suposed to land in came into view, it was next to a wide stream and the rain was coming down hard. The helicopters swooped around, descended and the skids touched down on the long grass. The doors flung open and soldiers disembarked and ran over to the trees in less than thirty seconds. The helciopters then took off leaving the team in the middle of hostile terriotry.

At Freedom Countries legendary Government buildings:

Officer Reynolds spoke to the General in charge of all operations in Brunei.

"Sir, we are allowed to post forces."

"Good, good. We are fighting alongside United Elias, yes."

"Yes, sir, we are."

"Good. We will wait for them to make some moves. Then, we will make our own. Who are we fighting?"

"Unofficially, the Communists. Officially, no-one."

"That could prove difficult. Who is reaady to dispatch?"

"Pretty much everyone sir. 37th Spec Ops, 3rd Infantary...."

"Gotcha. Dispatch 37th SO, with their air cover and transportation."

"Roger, that sir. Are you sure you really want to get that involved?"

"Yes, yes I am. Send them in a commercial 747..... with internal modifications."

"Yes sir. That would take....."

*Batters Calculator*

"3 Runs I think, for everything. Including several TA-13's it goes to 4 trips."

"Dispatch them immediately. And tell them to wait for my orders."

"ROGER, SIR"

*Officer Salutes and leaves*

Approximatley 20 miles West of Marudi, the 12 men of CAT Team 9 marched forward in a column along the Sungai Bekong river. For the last few days there had been no enemy contact, what they hoped for and their only encounter had been with a few local peasants. Luckily their linguist had managed to broker a conversation and they, not having a radio or television and miles from the nearest town had no konowldege of the comunist uprsing.

Now the team continued towards the small town of kuala Nyabor, only 6 or 7 miles where they would attempt to inflitrate and acertain whether the NLA forces had yet made moves into the area. The harsh rain continued making slowing their progess a the ground turned to mud.

On the Main Road between Bintulu and Kuala Nyabor.

The Vast column of trucks and armour riolled uneasily along the pothole, rundown road that streched the wole way across Sarawak.

The 120th Rifle Regiment, the 12th Armoured Battallion and the 7th and 9thMotorised Corps were heading straight towards the town of Kuala Nyabor which they would use as a staging base for operations in Western Sarawak.

Red flags with huge gold stars emblazoned in the center hung from their vehiles and most were jubiliant that their region was communist once again. The soldiers thts marched alongside the tanks however kept an eye on te surounding jungle, expecitng guerilla attacks from capitalist resistance fighters.

General Nui Pek, the fourth most senior NLA officer in Sarawak sat in his open topped UAZ roughly in the middle of the convoy with heavy guard.

By nightfall Covert Action Team 9 had reached a position only a mile and a half from the edge of Kula Nyapor and while the rest established a hide site amidst the jungle a three man recon tem was sent to scout out the Eastern outskirts of the town.

The three men had made their way fairly rapidly through the trees having left their heavy equipment with the main team and now they had stopped after spotting a make shift checkpoint at a position along the main road into town, the same road which continued all the way to the Brunei border.

Sergeant Landau discussed his options with the other two soldiers:
“Three men by the looks of it, all with AKs”
“Yeah, look like police or some sort of militia not regular army.”
“Guarding the Road?”
“Looks like it.”
“Anybody thinking what I’m thinking?”
“Absolutely, wanna give it a shot?”
“Yeah why not?”
“Okay here’s the plan…”

The team sniper set up his Accuracy International AW rifle about two hundred yards away from the soldiers, using his night vision scope to monitor the enemy and check for anybody else. Just in case he screwed a silencer onto the end of the barrel.

Sergeant Landau and his comrade made their way down a steep bank silently and crept around the enemy’s flanks. They then got into position and once the sniper had confirmed that no one else was around he gave the thumbs up. The Corporal about twenty yards away from him now, leapt up and fired two rounds from his silenced Sig Sauer handgun into the heads’ of two of the guards, killing them instantly. Even as the bodies fell and before the third soldier realised what had happened, Sergeant Landau had brought his arm around the man’s neck and knocked him unconscious with the butt of his sidearm. The sniper meanwhile provided over watch while they carried the bodies back into the jungle. The two dead ones they hid under some leaves and the third they intended to carry back to the hide where they’d interrogate him, once he woke up.

Kuala Nyabor

The tank commander waved to the communist supporters that had turned out on the streets to greet them, but still he was weary of resistance. The first in a long line of T-55s to enter the city, they would advance straight to Red Square where they would immediately take over the ciy administration buidling. It had ben a long time since he hads last been here and in the four years since te fall of communism, bamboo huts and wooden sheds had been replaced by mutil-storey concrete and brick buidlings. Of course he loathed to admit it but the capitalists had sure brought progress to this remote little region.

A pair of rocket armed Mi-8s patrolled above, since the local 'Workers Militia' had reported three men missing and it was expected resistance fighters had fled to the surrounding areas after they heard that the Army would be coming.

Kuching

In the State Capital of the Sarawak region, NLA troops continued purging capitalist officials and journalists and now a group of army trucks had pulled up outsied the small Consulate of Royal Brunie with every intention of arresting the occupants.

IC:
In the office of President Scipio Fitzpatrick, in walks a large man in a black uniform, five stars gleaming from his shoulder boards and row upon row of decoration ribbons and devices covering the left side of his chest. He looks at the aides and they hurriedly stand up, excusing themselves and making a swift exit.

"Sir, General Taylor reporting..."

"Ulysses, shut the f*ck up and stop saluting me before I tear a new hole in your ass," Scipio laughed, extending his hand and moving around the desk.

The general cracked a grin and extended his hand as well, "Alright then, Bug... put her there!," General Taylor said, laughing heartily and pulling the president into a bear hug.

"It's been forever... pray tell you come bearing good news. Being a desk jockey has its perks but it's so boring, heh heh. What I wouldn't give to be back out there eating shit in the weeds." Scipio chuckled and sat down on one of the reclining chairs around the coffee table centered in his office.

"As much as I'd love to tell you good news, Scip, I can't totally do that... I do have some good news, but at the same time, I have some bad news as well." Taylor moved to the large plasma display on the wall and input his data chip before moving back to the collection of chairs and easing into one. "Good news or bad news first?"

"Good."

"Good news is that the Track Qualifier is going to be back on track in a couple of days. A ruptured gas main in the upper tier had blown a portion of the structure away, but repairs are almost complete. Also, it seems Intisar and Longhorn Isle are starting to step down hostilities. Our military is as ready as ever and prepared for worldwide deployment as soon as neccessary."

Fitzpatrick leaned back in his chair and swiveled to face the plasma display. "I take it that this is the bad news?"

Turning to face the screen as well, Ulysses Taylor nodded, "sure is, Bug... Seems that the NLA has taken control of Sarawak, deposing and executing the democratic government in power there. Seems that Sarawak has been a territory of Nimbata for quite some time but the standing war has now spread to this country."

Fitzpatrick's face turned grim, "I take it that the NLA has established a communist regime? Are there any loyal to the Nimbatan government still?"

Taylor nodded and stood, moving to the screen. "Seems as though at least one battalion and perhaps two squadrons remain loyal to the Nimbatan democracy. They have moved north to here," Taylor pointed to a tiny country north of Sarawak, "the Sultanate of Royal Brunei. A number of other nations have pledged their support for the Nimbatan loyalists although I don't know their current level of involvement. Satellite images," the screen shimmered and then displayed numerous highly detailed satellite thermal feeds, "are showing troop movements throughout the country but we are, as of yet, unsure as to who they are or what side they are on in this conflict."

President Fitzpatrick stood and moved to the image, analyzing the map that had reappeared. "Do we have any assets in the area to support the Nimbatans?"

"Yes, but it would be a significant contribution and we both know that we cannot simply enter most of our forces without at least consulting the Senate. I know they are really just figureheads, but better safe than sorry, right? In case we plan on moving in that direction, however, this is what we have available." Taylor inserted a feed into his PDA, letting his Order of Battle scroll onto the plasma screen. Immediately, four glowing dots appeared on various portions of the ocean near Sarawak, Royal Brunei, Sabah and Kalimantan. He pointed to the nearest blip. "Here we have the 11th AMEU; the Retributor an amphibious carrier, the Swiftsure and the Windwalker, both escort destroyers and lastly, the Lord of Change a Sentinel-class battleship. Four thousand Marines, eight AMG-100 MBTs, about thirty infantry fighting vehicles, eight large hovercraft and two squadrons of AMF-8 Wraith V/STOL fighters. They are approximately two days out as they were conducting training exercises in the waters not too far from Sarawak.
"We also have the 14th and 27th AMEUs within about seven days of the target area. Both have similar compositions to the 11th. I figure if they need an occupational security force, we could provide them with that. With twenty-four tanks, we have two battalions... plus the three battalions of Marines. The fighters give us a full wing for air support. Oh, and each carrier also has eight AMH-1 Crusader attack helicopters."

Shaking his head, Fitzpatrick stood up. "No, you were right... I can't commit this unless it is expressly asked for. What about these other two blips... who are they?" The president stood before the screen, analyzing the other two dots, slowly moving their way across the map. "This one in particular looks to be only a couple of hundred miles from Royal Brunei."

Taylor raised an eyebrow and nodded... "That's the 14th ASOF under Colonel Patrick Bray. They are returning from Barn Storm. I suppose we could commit them to this conflict if the Nimbatans and Bruneians approved it. They are, however, returning from a thirteen month deployment."

"True enough. Ask them if they would like the opportunity and we'll go from there. Make sure it's clear that this is soley a volunteer mission. No black marks for not taking it, we'll simply select someone else, but they are our best. What all do they have as support?"

Taylor selected "Live Feed" from the control panel and waited as the picture zoomed in, depixelled and sharpened. "One AMS-8 Courageous-class escort carrier with two squadrons of AMF-1 Phoenix Interceptors, eight AMHS-2 Valkyrie special operations helicopters, sixteen AMHS-1 Crusader special operations attack helos, two AMS-7 Vanguard-class escort frigates and two AMS-5 Kraken-class escort destroyers. There is also a single AMS-90 Nautilus-class special operations submarine within 400 miles."

"Yes... let's definitely ask them if they are willing to move in. I hate to say it, but they are deniable but vastly more effective than our other choices at this point. How many operatives are there?"

Talor consulted his data again and smiled, "Eighty-four, Bug... fourteen teams... point, team-leader, demo, heavy, sharp-shooter, and medic. Of course all are cross-trained but team composition has specialists in each of those fields. And, Scip... these guys aren't gonna say no. They're more gun-ho than the 3rd ASOF, no joke... we'd never have turned this down and neither will they."

'Very well then... I'll extend my offer to the Nimbatan government. Notify Colonel Bray and his men to be ready within eighteen hours. We have a lot of work to do."

"Gotcha... hey, Mandy and I are having a few people over tomorrow night for a cookout, consider this an invitation... the Porin Titans are taking on the Ashur Bills and we're going to have it on the HD projector... playoffs are just around the corner and that running back for the Bills looks like he's just hit his stride."

"Kim and I will be there!" Fitzpatrick extended his hand and pulled Taylor into a hug and then moved immediately to the phone... "Ariel, contact the Nimbatan government and inform them that we are offering our support in any way they would like. Inform them that we have the 14th ASOF as well as the 11th, 14th and 27th AMEUs to send to their aid."

Taylor slipped out, pulling out his encrypted cell-phone and hit the speed-dail for HQ. "Taylor here... contact Bray and inform him that if he wants the mission he's got it... awaiting approval from Nimbatans and Bruneians."

"There he is, I'll go and get him."

One of the teams CQB specialists got up from his cover in the trees and ran sixty yards or so and greeted the Bruneian Royal Guard who looked like he had had a tough time. They exchanged afrew words then the
men escorted him back to to the rest of the team where the medic would tend to his light wounds and the team leader would debrief him.

The ship and its two Corvette escorts were officially in the area for anti-piracy operations but the 320 Marines and the pilots of the 8 EA-24C helicopters aboard knew that it was only a matter of time before they would have to fight the brutal communist fanatics that they had seen on television terrorising Nimbatan, Kahtani and Ferrusian troops on the mainland of Nimbata. Checking chemical gear and refresher training in hand to hand combat were priorities.

In red square the corpses of 7 dissenters were still hanging from gallows as dusk fell. Troops were patrolling and enforcing curfews, watchful for attacks from resistors.

On the roofs of the the government administration building in Red Square, The Police Headquarters a few blocks North where the militia was now based and at a school complex about a half a mile West that was being used to house abuot 2000 troops, ZU-23 antiaircraft guns were being setup.

In the Southern outskirts SA-2 and SA-3 missiles were being brought in by truck and reinforcements numbering around 600 were ocupying an old military base that was to being converted to become the field HQ for all Eastern Sarawak operations.

Five minutes short of Kuala Naybor

The Kasatkas flew over the dense jungle. It occured to Rulik that the sound of the rotors would probably attract AA fire long before they arrived, but he prefered to leave such decisions to the upper brass. It was their area of 'expertise' after all.

He clutched his SA-80 and flicked the switch between burst and single. That was about the limit of his own tactical genius. On the battlefield however he and the men around him displayed a whole new level of genius in team co-ordination that no one man could ever achieve.

They passed over a lake and attracted some small arms fire, all presumably flying well wide of the helicopter as he failed to hear any hitting their target. Not that they would have any effect he knew.

Most probably in an attempt to break his concentration, Corporal Tilio pulled out a cigarette and lit it. Rulik gave him a grave look but it was never noticed. Instead the squad's attention was suddenly drawn to the announcement over the pilot's radio.

"Encountering AA resistance! Recommend all pilots steer clear of 4,15. Silver One out."

The reply was inadible over the rotors but he assumed it would be a standard 'roger that' reply. He was forced to reconsider this however when the pilot shouted to them,

"Things might get a little rough!" Suddenly a missile flew past them about 6 metres away. The CSF prided themselves on being the best in the armed forces, but could the pilots claim the same thing? Quite probably. He left his rifle in the burst setting and looked over the side. The camoflagued armour, probably invisible to most soliders stuck out like a sore thumb to his keen eye.

"Do they seriously think we can't see those things?" Morgan chuckled, apparently reading Rulik's mind. Tilio finished his cigarette and flicked it out of the side of the helicopter.

"My R1 will give them a run for their money any day!" he bragged, tapping the rocket launcher on his back. Morgan gave Rulik a look which suggested he shared Rulik's settiment on fragging Tilio after this op was over, like the military would let them get away with that in a million years. It could be worse he supposed, the Communists could be in power which things might well end up as after the coming election.

The choppers cleared the area without a single loss. Maybe he would buy one of them a yari (ooc - weak beer) after they landed which begged him to ask would the commies give them a good reception themselves? He assumed they would appreciate the help, but the Coldorrans were still foreign troopers in another country. The NCO's voice crackled over the radio:

"We've just got word from Talaax that a hospital has been bombed. Apparently there's been twenty casulties. Don't know any more, don't ask." All the soldiers cursed under their breath. It should've been them in Talaax, not the green troopers that were sent in to fight the 'religious fanatics'. For at least 80% of them they'd never used their gun in a live situation before. He flicked his rifle back to single-shot. He wasn't going to be needing three bullets when they landed to be assured a kill.

As they flew over the city he spotted the red star painted quickly on top of one of the buildings, which looked like a police station. They flew further south and waited to land at the 'greeting party'.

Memorandum for: Sultanate of Royal Brunei
From: Ulysses A. Taylor, General (commanding) Agnos Armed Forces
Subject: Nimbatan Support Against NLA

We have received your confirmation for deployment of a small force to support the effort against the communist NLA and shall expedite the arrival of said troops as soon as possible. We shall have ten teams, five spec-ops helos and a four-aircraft fighter escort, for a total of 90 personnel, arriving from the Tyrant's Test, an escort carrier approximately 150 miles north of your country. Of these 90, only 60 are actual ops personnel and three teams will always remain in the rear as a Tactical Operations Center (TOC) and Quick Reaction Force (QRF).

The helos will need adequate area to land and the aircraft as well. We request use of any military air facilities so as to prevent the use of crew for aircraft protection, however, if that's not possible, expect another twenty personnel for ground security.

Should you require additional assistance, the TOC shall be equipped with numerous SATCOM radios and every team leader has been issued an iridium cell-phone for secure, global connections. Worst-case scenario, resorting to memorandums and other such message traffic will be acceptable. We stand ready to support your defense and the reclaimation of the country of Sarawak.

Colonel Bray is the commanding officer for the 14 ASOF, the unit that shall be supporting you, and all questions regarding tactics, SOPs and rules of engagement should be directed his way. We look forward to a successful campaign and stand ready to return Sarawak to its rightful protectors and further non-communist regimes.

Thank you for the opportunity to support you in this endeavor.

Aboard the Tyrant's Test

The wash of heat blew across the flight deck, a mingled bouquet of aviation fuel, the sea and machinery carrying with it, swirling around the figures slowly moving to the five helicopters awaiting them. Technicians hurried past with quick glances before moving on as the sixty men lugged their equipment to the aircraft before setting them out in orderly rows. A rucksack each, an assault pack and two d-bags made up the baggage while each operator's individual weapons were laid out in front. After setting up their gear, the men and women checked their gear over and then rechecked it, then rechecked their teammates and then checked themselves again to ensure they had not forgotten anything.

A whine from the nearest deck elevator heralded the arrival of the rest of their equipment and the ten teams of six moved to gather that which they would need. Amidst joking and crude cracks about parents, siblings and significant others, the deploying members of the 14 ASOF collected the remainder of their issues. Ten collapsed kevlar assault rafts, explosives and more were all carried back to the helicopters that would carry them ashore.

Crew chiefs on the helos checked their aircraft, their miniguns and went back to the aircraft again. The ten aviators moved around the bodies to the wings, checking the missles, rocket pods and sensor equipment before easing into the cockpits and beginning their pre-flight checks. Behind the line of helicopters, a sudden roar and snap-hiss of the deck catapult accompanied the launch of an EAMF-8 Specter EW aircraft, blasting the crews and operators with a wave of hot air.

Checks done, the crew chiefs ushered people away from tail rotor enclosures and cleared the areas around the helos where the rotors sagged their lowest. With a slight hum and the click of drives engaging, the five massive rotors began to turn, accelrating slowly at first and then gaining speed, sweeping away the fumes and sea spray with the propwash.

At a signal, all sixty operatives started grabbing their gear and loading it into the five transports, efficiently packing their equipment into safety webbing and then helping the security details with their heavy weapons. Loading done, they moved back over to the carrier's superstructure and slipped on their K-III (3rd gen composite bodyarmor- lighter and thinner than kevlar but as effective at range) body armor, tactical vests and gloves. Their Specter ballistic glasses flickered to life as they entered the range of their respective transmitters, displaying ambient temperature, weapons readout of rounds fired and a small targeting reticle that lazily traversed their viewing arc as they picked up their weapons and the weapons keyed onto the central processors as well. They all moved their earpieces up and inserted them in each ear, the tiny cords snapping into the ports on the ballistic glasses, powering the inner-ear mics and speakers.

As a group, the sixty operatives and twenty security personnel moved onto the helicopters via the rear ramps and took their seats. The crew chiefs moved to their guns and strapped in, spooling the barrels up once more and then easing back, settling in for the flight.

TSgt Hodges' ear-piece clicked to life suddenly as the pilot chatter was picked up by his tactical radio, “...to one-seven-three degrees. We'll proceed at four hundred ASL at one-seven-zero mph.”

“Copy, Hawk-One… Two’s ready for lift-off.”

“Check, Hawk-One… Three is green and clear.”

“Hawk-Four copies all, One… rotor running, let’s get gunning.”

“Roger, One… Five’s hot-to-trot.”

Hodges heard the rotors suddenly increase in pitch and felt his stomach sink slightly into his pelvis as the helicopter lifted from the flight deck and into the air. The rest of the passengers grinned at each other and a few settled into books, SSgt Parks, SSgt Fleming and PFC Jenn all getting comfortable and settling in for naps.

“Test fire, test fire test fire!” called out one of crew chiefs after the helo had fully cleared the deck and Hodges watched as the gunner racked the auto-slide on the chaingun and let loose with a sudden burst of fire. The digital counter on the right side of the weapon clicked down thirty-two rounds from the burst and the multiple barrels slowly rolled to a stop. “Test fire, test fire, test fire!” came the call from the other side as the other gunner did the same and then settled back behind his weapon with a copy of Atlas Shrugged.

Hodges smiled to himself, rechecked his weapons and then let himself slip off into a nice little slumber.

Back aboard the Tyrant’s Test

Four jets slowly raised up to the flight deck on their respective elevators while the pilots checked the weapons on the hardpoints, inspected the intakes fro debris and so many other little things that aviators do before take-off. The crew chiefs checked on the avionics and propulsion plants, removed the “Live Weapon” tags from each of the weapons under the wings and ferried the aircraft to the “ready” spots.

The members of Tyrant Flight each climbed the ladders to their respective aircraft and settled in, crew chiefs leaning over the edges to connect their re-breathers, comm. equipment and safety harnesses. Final checks were made and the pilots all put their helmets on, immediately getting the helmet HUD view and important information about their aircraft.

The crew chiefs hopped off the ladders and retracted them into the sides of the aircraft before doing a final check of the exteriors and intakes before smacking each aircraft on the side and giving the pilots a thumbs-up. They gathered the rest of their gear and each scampered back to the crew pits as the starters on each AMF-1 Phoenix was engaged.

With a pop and a hum, slowly building to a whine and then a full-out roar, the Four fighters spooled up their engines and tested their avionics and emergency systems. Engine nacelles dilated and contracted, vectored 360 degrees and then returned to normal. Targeting lasers flickered on and painted distant objects before flicking back off and the first two aircraft rolled to their respective catapults where the deck crew attached the launch sleds into place and stepped back quickly as the blast shields came up.

At a signal from the port and starboard sides, the flight lead kicked his aircraft up to launch-power, followed smartly by his wingman who also pushed her thrust to the required level and braced for launch. Seconds later, the electromagnetic catapults flew forward, carrying the two jets forward and flinging them from the ship where they kicked into opposite banking turns, sweeping around the carrier as they gained altitude.

Back on the deck, the blast shields went down the second pair went through the same routine before joining their mates in the sky and blasting off after the helicopters, headed for the Sultanate of Royal Brunei.

The laden helicopters chopped across the surface of the sea, barely a hundred feet off the deck, moonlight scattering across the matte-black finishes of the fuselages and the composite material of the rotor blades reducing the noise slightly. Inside the helos all lights were off save the instrument panels for the pilot and co-pilot which were dimmed down to their lowest setting, barely on but bright in the absence of any other light. In the crew bay, the LCD lenses of the teams and security elements brightened fractionally, amplifying the ambient light and operating as night vision devices.

Aboard Hawk-Two, TSgt Hodges cracked an eye to look around him before falling off back into a slumber. The other members of his team and the security element we holding quiet conversations or asleep as well. The crew chief were the only people who were tense, their guns on a constant swivel as they searched the air and water for contacts.

Twenty-nine thousand feet above the helicopters flew Tyrant Flight. The four aircraft were flying in a stack to give radar the appearance of a single larger target while satellite data only showed two aircraft from the top. IFF emulators broadcast a fake airline signal as the flight made its way towards land and the awaiting runway in Royal Brunei.

The Skylark had sent back good pictures and the teams were prepared for the attack, luckily dusk would be in a few hours and aid their escape.

The team sniper was lying prone, camouflaged around a hundred yards further than the road than the rest of them and he was adjusting his scope when the first vehicle came into view. As the UAZ approached he fed a fresh round into his rifle and prepared to shoot, just as the vehicle passed the point that they had decided on he fired a single shot sending a bullet through the head of the gunner on the open jeep. His fingers quickly and with machine like precision fed another bullet into the chamber and he snapped off another shot killing the driver before he had realized what had happened. Four and a half seconds on the sniper shot the soldier in the passenger seat through the head.

The convoy had been forced to stop and this was the signal for Sergeant Landau to rush forward with his Predator (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=84361
) launcher, when he was just forty yards from the road he fired off the rocket directly at the BTR-80, a huge shattering and crumpling as well as heat and smoke confirmed it had been destroyed, he dropped the tube brought his Tavor assault rifle to his shoulder and dashed forward as other men followed.

Corporal Sanchez was unusual in two senses first of all he was a member of the tiny Hispanic community in United Elias and secondly he was a pyromaniac, so much so that when the SRS introduced the PaFT-3 Flamethrower (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=68553) he was the obvious choice as one of the first operators. In fact he had only just completed qualification on the type when he had been posted to Brunei but he was confident in his abilities. He leapt from his cover behind some trees and bearing the weight of the tanks rushed forward to near the road, after quickly checking no friendlies were in the way he fired a huge burst of flame about 40 feet which consumed the fifth truck in the convoy, screams were heard and then a fireball shot skyward as unknown to him the fuel drums in the truck cooked off with a deafening roar. He was pleased, he had quite literally given the weapons its ‘baptism of fire.’

Sergeant Landau had seen the truck go up in flames; indeed he had felt the huge heat wave and knew it was time to storm the other two trucks as they did no know where their quarry was. He and a few other soldiers threw flash bangs at the trucks and a pair of SAW gunners kept covering fire on any survivors from the last two vehicles. The flash bangs went off and they rushed forward with their assault rifles set on automatic, straight for the rear of one of the Urals and saw six guards in the back, along with the Minister dazed and disorientated, a split second decisions were made one by one the enemies were systematically eliminated and the Bruniean was taken still barely conscious and hurried into the trees. Another four guys had cleared the other truck and the second UAZ. The operation was complete and with only one casualty a slight shrapnel wound the 24 men rushed Northwards through the trees. Two NLA prisoners had been taken but the decision was taken to execute them rather than have them as a liability.

The Gunnery Sergeant who was team leader of CAT Team 9 ordered an encrypted message be sent to Brunei, simply ‘Precious Cargo retrieved.’

"Ten minutes..." hissed Capt Powell's inner-ear mic, rousing him immediately from his nap and into full awareness. All around him, the similar motions of the the other embarked troops signalled their awakening and readying as well. His visor display showed hsi weapon to be ready with a full magazine and still on "safe" and he rifled through his gear, checking for his extra magazines, water and emergency rations in case the helo went down.

To his right, the waist gunner swiveled back and forth, keeping an eye out for hostiles which, luckily had been absent the entire inbound flight. Across the helo, the other gunner was doing hte same, his minigun cycling every now and then as he fed a rond into the actuator chamber and then back out. The security detail was readying their storm shields and checking their gear as well, each chambering a round into their automatic shotguns in case it was necessary upon debarkation.

"Hawk-flight, this is One, come about to two-five-one degrees. LZ is clear. Execute combat drop and move into security orbit. ETA five mnutes."

A glimpse out of the sides showed the sea rushing past, suddenly broken by the tan of a beach and then brush as the special operations helicopters soared over the lush foliage of Royal Brunei.

Powell tapped his wrist display to ensure his mic was on, "Team two, ready weapons. Olivas has point, Munroe has rear security. Search pattern Alpha-one."

The Valkyrie suddenly pitched pose up and came to an abrupt halt, the rear ramp skating the ground for a brief second and then the security element was out, shields leading. Propwash battered the troops but they held tight ad then suddenly the wid was gone as the five birds shot into the air and moved into holding patterns, providing overhead cover with their missiles, rockets and miniguns.

Overhead, Tyrant flight, the AMF-1 Phoenix interceptors shot through the sky.

The two 'Typhoon' special operations boats (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=75771&highlight=) approached the coastline, four marines in each boat, .50s manned and engines running slow and quiet. The helmsman on the lead craft scanne the shoreline with his NV binoculars, only half a mile away the beaches and trees where hopefully the Special Forces would be. The radio crackled and heheard the short sharp message he needed, “9 Alpha and Bravo ready for extraction, 100 yards from coast.”

He picked up the handset and replied quickly, “Roger, proceed to beach, all clear, over.”
Then he whispered some orders and one of the Marines leapt up from his machinegun and went back to the small inflatable. The Commander thought they could have gone all the way in but the risks of getting beached were too great so they would have to use the dinghies. The low hum of the diesels changed as they slipped into idle and on both boats the small eighteen foot inflatables with one man each was detached and their tiny outboards pushed them through the black glassy waves the rest of the way towards the coastline. As the first boat reached the beach men clad in black and heavily armed appeared from the woods. Through his binoculars the commander saw that the Bruniean was loaded first and as the inflatables could only take six men each some of men waited for the second trip, eyeing the trees with their sights, watching for movement.

The dinghies returned to the boats and off loaded the spec ops who seemesd pleased enough ust to get of their feet. The second trip quickly returned and the little boats werethen hauled aboard again. The Commander nodded to his counterpart on the other boat and he opened the throttles slightly, turned around in the direction of their ship a hundred and fifty miles out. He turned around and looked at the tired men, “Everything okay guys?”
They nodded and he added, “Hang on then.” Grabbing the two throttles he pushed hem all the way up and the boats accelerated quickly all the way to fifty knots.

Col Bray stood by silently as the techs moved around him. The Bruneians had, to this point, been nothing but helpful, providing the 14th ASOF with everything they had asked for and lodging them in a medium-sized compound with enough room for all of their equipment and comfortable rooms and beds. In this, his soon-to-be Tactical Operations Center, the crystal refraction screens and SATCOM linsk were being connected. To his left, secure communications were being routed through a digital encryption bus linked directly to three SATCOM antennas. To the right, maps, digital readouts and a fiberoptic map were being initialized.

Outside, Capt Archer and his team were erecting the antennas and solar panels to recharge the capacitors without having to constantly tap into the Bruneian power grid. Generators were brought up by Team Five and conencted to the main power supply before being buried and then turned on, their digital readouts, vents and fuel ports the only portions extending out of the ground.

Three of the AMH-2 Valkyries had moved in with underslung cargo, one with pallets of food, water purification devices, a few personal effects and the other with the remainder of the electronics required for the TOC. The other two helos carried one AMG-92 light assault vehicle each. Perfect for jungle warfare, they were able to carry six men apiece and the top mount allowed for just about any weapon to be mounted on a pintle-swivel.

Already TSgt Hodges and his team, minus Lt Campbell, were conducting security patrols and setting up early-warning devices, hidden cameras and ensuring the compund had good lanes of fire in every direction.

Capt Byron and her team, Team Six, would be ready to go out on their first operation tonight, as would Lt Michael and SSgt Ryan's Team Nine. Already they were doing vehicle inspections of the two AMG-92s and affixing the pintle-mounted weapon of choice for the operator... Team Six a .50 Cal machine gun and Team Nine a 40mm automatic grenade launcher.

Private Harrsk came up to Bray as he observed all of this and offered him the iridium cel phone. "Sir, IntCom with an update as we're not up yet. We should be getting our feeds within twenty minutes."

***message to all****

With Freedom Countries little involvement in this conflict, we would like to make a decisive and full frontal assault on Kuala Nyabor.

We plan to use KA-60's, CH-47's, gunships and Air Cover in the name of TA-13's.

We therefore ask permission to go ahead with the raid.

To all allied nations:

Our nation is most grateful for the continung support of Agnosticum, United Elias and Freedom Country in fighting communists in Sarawak. Our particular thanks go to the United Elias special forces who safely extracted a Minister and member of the Royal at great personal risk.

At this time however we continue to prohibit overt offensive actions being laucnhed from our nation at the NLA until we have confirmed information that the NLA have hostile intention towards Brunei, covert missions are therefore favoured as while we see the NLA as a threat we do not want them to see us as an enemy until our nation is ready to possibly defend itslef fom aggressors.

Coastal Town of Labuan, Western Sarawak

Forty or so tanks and APCs from the 4th Armoured Corps rolled forward, the tank commander sitting proudly atop their turrets red flags flying from the radio aerials and the feeling of liberation overcoming them. However fast their 're-assimilation' had proved to be they were sure that as they went West capitalist feeling grew, probably becuase nearby Royal Brunei was spreading it like a disease all over their region.

The first tank a T-55G had now reached the outskirts of the little town where two or three storey brick buildings faced the road and smaller shacks and huts were dotted around.

Suddenly a crack rang out and cloud of smoke from the front tank confirmed that it had hit an anti-tank mine. The commander of the second tank swung around his machinegun but before he could find any targets, two rifle rounds hit his head and killed him instantly,. Two RPGs then streaked across and hit the thrid vehicle a BMP-1 IFV crippling it.

Inside another BMP Private Chan had heard heexplosion and then the furious sounding voice of the commander, "get out get out!" The rear ramp dropped and he along with eight other soldiers ran out into the open, welcoming non diesled filled air. He didnt know where to go and the next vehicle along a T-62 was turning violently. He followed a coporal and heard the deadfening sound of a tank gun and the more deafeningsound of the shel smashing into teh ground. The turret ion the BMP was firng madly but he couldnt see the enemy.

A few seconds later he had reached theafety of a low walland he could hear bullets snapping past. He checked the afety then pressed the thin metal light weight butt of his AKS-74 into his shoulder, jumped up, eye on the sight and fired a four round burst at ine of the huts where he could see muzzle flash, he then crouched again.

Another RPG flew by luckily missing a BMP narrowly.Seveal more men were appearing now from another BMP further back, he still couldnt work out exactly what was going on, theres was too much shooting, shouting and sheelling to comprehend. He elapt up aganthrowing himself over the wall and dashin fifty yards further away from the road. He xcanne ofr enemy and fired several rounds at one of the larger brick buidlings, confident that was an enemy firebase.

Before he could find new cover, smoke started spreading all around and then he could make out the whining of mortar shells as they fell, he lay flat down as pieces of earth and metal sprayed around. Just then he heard his coporal again, "Fight Cowards, Fight!" He gained new trength aand in the complete cover f smoke and mortar shells impacting he broug himslef to hsfeet and state advancing on the house..

What Private Chan didnt know awas thant four kilometees further back the 63rd Artillery Corps was readying twenty eight GRAD Missile trucks each carrying 40 122mm rockets. They were going to make an exapmle of Labuan.

*14 ASOF TOC - Seria, Royal Brunei*

"Colonel Bray! We have major activity in Sarawak... vicinity of a coastal town called Lutong," came the call from the sergeant seated at one of the satellite feed terminals. "Satvid three, Sir."

"Very well." From his seat in the center of the TOC, Bray entered in the command on his monitor to show the video feed from the satellite and clicked on the 10,000m field of view setting and watched intently as the picture materialized. With a rapid depixellization, the main CRT showed him a coastal town of small size with smoke plumes around the outskirts and a long line of armored vehicles moving into the picture from the east. Tiny dots inched forward and he zoomed in even closer to the 2,000m setting and sat back as the action unfolded before his eyes.

Sparse firefights dotted the picture, flashes of muzzlefire and the larger tongues of wrath from the tanks int eh armored column made him wince internally. All around, buildings were crumbling and bodies were being tossed around. The flags of the NLA fluttered from the aerials and antennas of the tanks and APCs and troops could be seen moving into buildings whose windows would suddenly flash, sometimes smoke pouring from them and then the troops moving on. Bodies littered the ground from both sides, but mostly the villagers.

The TOC had gone quiet as everyone looked at the 50" screen.

"Sergeant Huss, who is closest to this?" Bray stood up and moved to his tactical chart.

"Sir, that would be Team Six. They are currently airborne and looking to infil about one hundred miles west of Lutong."

"Inform Captain Byron that she and her team have a new set of orders and are to redeploy to here..." Bray pointed to a small inlet fifteen miles west of Lutong. "I want them on the ground and in the vicinity of Labuan in two days. We'll resupply via helo and their extraction point will be thirty miles offshore. I want them collecting intel and harrassing any smaller patrols as well as stirring up dissidents in the area. Looks like this is the NLA's cure for the democracy Sarawak once enjoyed. They may succeed but we're going to make it tough for them.
"ROE as follows. Engage only targets they can neutralize. Civilians they encounter who anti-NLA are to be questioned to find the strongest cells. If they feel they have enough, they are to co-ordinate strikes against NLA depots and the chain of command. I want to know everything there is to know about this portion of the country. Pro-NLA personnel are to be detained in any fashion possible but they are to remain hidden unless confirmed that the people they encounter are anti-NLA."

"Roger that, Sir. Wilco." Sergeant Huss keyed the handset to his SATCOM terminal and, "Hardrock-Six-Bravo, this is Gator-One-Hotel, over."

The radio was silent for a moment and just as Huss was about to re-key the hand-mike, crackled to life with a clear signal. "Gator-One-Hotel, this is Hardrock-Six-Bravo, go!"

"Hardrock, your tasking has changed, proceed to Grid two-four and insert one-five miles west of target center. How copy?"

"Wilco, Gator... anything else?"

"ROE has been uplinked to SATCOM. Maintain coms within reason. Sitreps as usual."

"Copy all, Hardrock proceeding. Out." A second later, the blip indicating the AMH-2 Valkyrie changed course and data showed the helo to be twenty feet over the sea as it flew towards Lutong and the scene of political genocide.

OOC: Actually, the only Labuan I saw on the map was naming the island to the northeast of Brunei. I may just be msising it entirely, but I looked 15 miles west of Brunei and didn't see it. I see Lutong is about 15 miles away, but that's the only one with an "L" in the bottom map. But I'll edit my numbers... was guessing it to be a fictional fishing hamlet or somesuch closer to Kuching.

*South China Sea Fifteen Miles West of Lutong*

The AMH-2 helicopter nosed up suddenly, coming to a sudden halt in mid-air, barely fifty feet over the South China Sea before settling lower to an altitude of about twenty feet. The rear cargo ramp opened fully and two rubber zodia rafts were shoved out even as the team of six operatives leapt from the side troop doors, their equipment wrapped in waterproofing material as they splashed into the water. The entire sequence took less than ninety seconds and then the Valkyrie was off, blazing back towards the relative safety of Royal Brunei.

In the warm waters, Capt Byron, Master Sergeant Fitzpatrick, Technical Sgts Seabrooks and Jackson and Sergeants Callaway and Lazaridis swam to their zodiacs and unfastened the covers, tossing their equipment in and then rolling in themselves. Callaway and Lazaridis each affixed their AMR-7 squad automatic weapons to the prow pintle mounts and lay behind them. The rest of their gear was quickly inventoried and the two kevlar-lined rafts sped off for the green line on the horizon, five miles away.

*thirty minutes later*

The engines had been turned off and each of the six members of Team Six re-sealed their gear save for their weapons. The advantage of their caseless ammunition being that it was fully waterproof and could operate underwater. One-by-one they dumped their gear and followed it into the water, the MSgt and the Capt each taking the emergency cords for the rafts and tugging them. With a sight "pop" the emergency valves on the two rafts flew open and the air decompressed from within, the vessels deflating and losing their bouyancy. Affixing their masks, Byron and Fitzpatrick dove down and secured the rafts to the seabed and ensured that the compressed air cannisters were full and ready to be deployed in an instant.

Using the lights on their modified Suunto watches, the two signaled the other four team members and together they set off for the shore, their breathing apparati diffusing the bubbles from their exhalation. They swam into the target cove and rested against the rocks while the master sergeant moved forward, his modified SAMR-5(like the H&K G-11 with larger caliber and more compact design) ready. He extended a fiber-optic periscope to survey the area before nodding to himself and moving out of the water. he quickly and efficiently moved into the treeline and did a sweep of the area. His eyes and ears told him all was clear, his equipment verified no motion and no IR signatures large enough to be human.

He flashed his light at the water and as one, the rest of Team Six rose, water cascading from them as they hustled up the beach and into the trees. Lazaridis unsealed his pack and reached inside, grabbing the small laptop and connecting it to his SATCOM antenna. He oriented it to the right declination and azimuth and sent an encrypted message less than fifty characters long before shutting off the equipment. He packed his gear back up and Team Six moved east in the direction of the sounds of rocket launches and explosions. Captain Byron hoped she and her team weren't too late.

*14 ASOF TOC, Seria, Royal Brunei*

The SATCOM terminals clicked to life, registered the message from Team Six and went back on stand-by. Bray moved to the screen and read the deciphered message:

6 in. Dir E. ETA 2hr. NoCas. Green.

Team Six was in a moving east towards the target with an estimated tome of arrival of two hours. No one was hurt and their equipment was all working properly. Excellent. We're going to show these commie bastards what it means to hostilely overtake a peaceful government.

"Admiral the President has told me that this is a fight worth winning, so my only question is what do we need?"

"Right now sir we have the President Victor Carrier battle Group in the Indian ocean on work up, this could easily be diverted to the South China Sea."

Following the Bruneian announcement, thosuands of people were fleeing along the coast road, many walking or at best using ragged old donkeys and carts. Mingled in with them stuck in the human traffic a few trucks and men from the 273rd Rifle Security Company, Nimbatan Army, one of the only units in Sarawak not to defect.

While the troops pushed on through what remained of Lutong, four Mi-24 Hind-Fs took from the small airfield at Kualau Nyabor with one objective to destroy any remaing Nimbatan soldiers before they crossed into Brunei.

They flew the 20 or so miles low over the jungle and then just as they caught sight of the coast they banked left and then slowly turned right so they would approcah the massive exodus of people from the South. Flying low and slow towards Brunei, the gunners looked out for army trucks, spotting them so they could attack on the next pass.

The crew monitoring the Rapier SAM system which was located just across from a group of prefabricated barracks buidlings about a 100 metres from the actual border suddenly heard a warning sound.

"Four contacts, three miles inbound!"

It took seconds before the men heard the rotors of the Hinds and a minute before they saw them flying low towards Brunei armed to the teeth.

"Sir?"

The young lieutenant in command had no time to get second opinions and from where he stood he could have no idea that the helicopters real intention was to turn around and make another pass on the Nimabatan army units. He made the only split second decison he could.

"Fire!"

The sergeant at the control console flicked the peacetime overide switch off and just three seconds later one of the short range SAMs was heading at Mach 2 towards one of the choppers.

The pilots of the Hinds hardly had no time to evade or even dispense countermeasures before the missile slammed into their squadron leader's aircraft, a fireball erupted and the helicopter's remains were sprayed out like ticker tape over the road below.

The pilot of the second Mi-24 reacted to what he saw as un provoked aggression and an act of war by Brunei, he increased the collective and shoutet over the intercom to his gunner. "Open Fire on them, now!"

57mm rockets then spurted out of their pods towards the Bruneian border station. On of the other chopper the gunner locked on to the SAM launcher and fired a pair of AT-6 guided missiles.

The third Hind meanwhile had turned around and was now firing 20mm shells towards the road trying to supress the small armsfire which in the past few seconds had been coming from the Nimbatan army remnants. This was in vain however as an unguided RPG struck the fueselage, the pilot struggles to control the helicopter and also instructs his gunner, "Jettison the weapons we're gonna have to put down somewhere round here."

Several days spent at sea had pushed the limits of embarked "cargo" and finally with port in sight the crew could rest and then head back home whilst it's "cargo" set it's own plans in to operation.

The cargo ship was owned by a small national company which in turn was the pet project of senior committee of officials of various multi-national companies one of which was run by a senior official in the government owned national transport industry. The ship was normally employed in hauling cargos of questionable origin and so the crew was not surprised when they discovered a new addition to the manifest.

The unconventional cargo of the ship had been added mid-journey by a smaller ship and since then the trip had gone withput incident apart from the almost manic attention payed to reports about the conflict going on, most of the crew assumed that the guest were just nervous of being in danger.

Border Checkpoint Just West of Kuala Belait

After the first missile had struck home, the lieutenant ordered the rapier crew to cease fire and wait for the response, sadly it was too late as two AT-6 missiles slammed into the launcher killing three.

Meanwhile not 100 yards away, unguided rockets struck into the border posts's numerous barracks buidlings. Huge towers of smoke anf flame shot out fom trucks that had been destroyed and out of 55 men at the border crossing point 20 were already dead.

The lieutenant had been just far enough from the SAM launcher to survive although he was the only one in his crew left, he picked up the radio and flicke dthe frequency, "Frontier 04, under attack by NLA helicopter gunships, repreat under attack, taking heavy casualties."

Their only hope of driving ioff the Hind's themselves rested with their single FIM-92 Stinger launcher. One of the soldiers had grabbed it and ran across the road through the human tide taht was entering bRunei and point it towards the helicopters. He wiated for the 'lock on' tone then fired his only rocket.

Seria Air Force Base

Less than a minute after the radio distress call, the scrmble claxon sounded and although the Bruneian pilots had been on alert for several days they couldnt quite belive that the NLA had attacked. On the flightline technicians pulled safety pins from wea pons and checked fuel lines.

The first planes to start up were a pair of Hawk trainers each armed with a gun pod and a pair of AIM-9 sidewinders, at the other end of the base three Black Hawks were being loaded with troops.

The Hind that had already been hit by small arms fire made an emergency landing just a kilometre West of teh border near the road, meanwhile the other tew hinds contniued their attack.

When the Stinger was fired, they released flares and banked sharply but the third Mi-24 was hit in the tail rotor and span wildy out of control into the ground, exllosing in a massive fireball. The plot of the only remaining gunship turned his helicopter South Westwards and bugged out.

We are saddened that the sultanate's money grabbing government have been so concenred of a social uprising sand liberation spreading to Brunei that they must kill to prevent it. This proves that the Bruneian Royal Family is weak and afraid. It is now the duty of our brave soldiers of liberation to make sure that Borneo becomes once again a socialist paradise."

The Minister of Defence once again enters ‘Crisis Room 3-Borneo’ for the second time in two days. Admiral Ben-David the Theatre of Operations Commander rises quickly as do the others. “Sir, the sh*t’s hit the fan, were you briefed in the car?”

“Yes Admiral.” He sits down and motions for the others to do the same. “I have here an executive order signed by the President giving me authority to deploy forces, so what’s the plan?”

“Sir, we have a plan entitled 'OPERATION URGENT SHIELD': first of all we are deploying 350 Marines from the Suez to Lutong airfield where they will start preparing the ground for reinforcements and establish liaisons with the Bruneians. At the same time I will the entire order 1st Battalion 2nd Airborne Division currently on six hour alert to deploy immediately to Brunei. The Air Force has made arrangements for transport and the appropriate tankers we’ll need to pull this off. The next stage in the operation will be to start operations from the President Victor aircraft Carrier as soon as the battle group arrives in theatre. Hopefully the show of this force alone can deter NLA aggression but if not we should be able to repel them. Once we have gained more intelligence and have a clearer idea of the enemy’s attention we can then make further force evaluation. Our objective I’m assuming is to defend Brunei rather than put an end to the NLA?”

“For the moment that is correct but we may end up going the whole way, anyway Admiral I like the plan, let’s get this going as soon as the Sultan gives us permission.”

“Sir, I have a copy in writing and I will be presenting it to the government in person, there’s a GV waiting for me.”

“Okay Admiral, I’ll let you get on, keep me posted.”

“Aye sir.”

Outskirts of Lutong, Sarawak

Capt Byron and her team lay low amongst the dense foliage, hidden by their camoflauge and noise discipline. From their vantage point, fires could still be seen curling from the debris and a light ash, the remnants of the people, drifted through the air. Master Sergeant Fitzpatrick took out his spotting scope and swept it across the village, finding nothing but charred corpses and destroyed buildings. Panning further along the roads he saw a bit of motion and enhanced the digital zoom, focusing in on the faint outline of an APC disappearing into the gloom of the jungle.

"Target swept clean. Box, five-eight degrees... running three-five. Prints show heavies active still." The other five team members took down the info as Fitz gave it to them, Lazaridis deploying his small laptop and SATCOM and sending a data burst to the awaiting satellite.

"Alright, Six... let's move." Byron took up her gear, and disappeared back into the jungle, followed by her team as they swept around the ruin of Lutong and headed off in the same direction as the departing APC.

Seria AFB, Royal Brunei

The four-ship of AMF-1 Phoenix interceptors stood-by on the flight line, menacing and deadly. Around them bustled the crew chiefs and weapons loaders, ensuring the planes were ready for a combat mission. Crew Chief Sebolboro went through an electronics diagnostic of each bird through the umbilical leading from each to his computer as his crews continued to work. Each aircraft was being loaded with four AM-3 Silence AMRAAMs, four AM-22 Stalker air-to-ground missiles and two AM-17 Savage anti-personnel missiles. The ammo hoopers were being loaded with the 25mm ammunition for the rotary cannon.

The four pilots strode out of their briefing with Col Bray and went straight to their aircraft, clambering up the ladders and, with the assistance of their crew, slipped into the cockpits and fastened their harnesses. Their G-suits were connected and their mic/data feeds were fed into the appropriate sockets on their flight gear. Their helmets, as soon as they were put on, hummed quietly as the visor HUD and aircraft diagnostics flickered on, superimposed over the view of the pilots.

Each pilot did a full maneuverability check of their helmets, ensuring the aiming reticle would go where they looked and lock on with a click of the tongue toggle. Starter carts were hooked up and jacked in, whirring quietly before the pilots moved to their engine ignition switches and ignited the two AS-19B Godhammer turbofans. The crews unfastened the power couplings, pulled out the safety wires and retreated under the cover of their hangars as the four jets roared their defiance of the communist takeover of Sarawak and wheeled out onto the taxiways behind the Hawk trainers of the Bruneians.

Memorandum For: Sultanate of Royal Brunei Defense Minister
From: Col Bray, 14 ASOF, Commanding
Subject: Deployment of defensive forces to protect Royal Brunei

Sir,

As I have mentioned in prior correspondence, we are willing to deploy, and I have the approval from President Fitzpatrick, forces in defense of the Sultanate of Royal Brunei. In preparation in the event of an escalation of hostilities, the 11th, 14th and 27th Agnos Marine Expeditionary Units are standing by within 24 hours to deploy within your nation. The vessels themselves are within 180 miles of the coast and are awaiting orders to proceed inland.

Also, the Carrier Proclamation of Damnation is conducting exercises within five hundred miles. We would have the ability to temporarily move an entire air wing to bases of your choice until the ships were back within 24/7 operations range of all of Sarawak.

I have sent numerous messages back to Tyrael and the President agrees that Brunei must not fall. As such he has ordered the DRF-1 battalion of the 3rd Agnos Skyborne to assume mission readiness and prepare for an air drop into key locations within Brunei to help fortify what defenses are already in place. We have at our disposal, roughyl 12,000 Marines and 2,000 paratroopers ready to defend the Sultanate. Light armor will support the Marines with the exception of the twenty-four AMG-100 and 102 battletanks supporting them. There will be approximately another 90 IFVs. Should you request any of these forces to defend Royal Brunei, we stand ready to deploy.

As a side note, one of our incursion teams has sent back data indicating that the significant force that struck the villge of Lutong is now enroute to the Brunei/Sarawak border. I have six teams and four of my AMH-2 Valkyries enroute but they are nowhere near enough.

Please advise the course of action you would like for us to take. We are committed to your defense and the independence of Sarawak no matter the costs.

Statement by the Sultan:

"Yesterday the tyrannous forces of the Nimbata Liberation Army attacked Royal Brunei in an unprovoked attack. 28 of our brave soldiers were killed and although the enemy helicopters were repelled many civilians and refugees were sluaghtered, most citizens of the Democratic Republic of Nimbata. These actions are an act of war against our nation and although we did not choose the path of conflict it is one we now have no choice but to follow.

Therefore I ask all my subjects to unite as we have always done in times of hardship and work toegther to resolve these difficulties. Although I will not send Bruneians to fight in a foreign land we may be forced to arms and sacrafice in defending our nation. Also please extend your greatest hospitality and courtesey to foreign military forces that will be arriving to further our cause. To these nations we are eternally greatful and we must respect that they are here purely to safeguard our nation and roll back the cancer of communism that is spreading through Boreno at an alarmng rate.

I urge you to pray that God help us in our struggle."

_______________________________

To: Admiral Ben-David, Colonel Bray

The Sultanate of Royal Brunei thanks your respective nations for your support and welcomes your troops. First of all we give full permission for airborne/Marine forces to paradrop into Brunei, at the moment the need for these troops seems to be primarily in the Belait province. Secondly with respect to attack aircraft we would prefer if offensive air strikes be launched from aircraft carriers rather than Brunei airbases. Thirdly and most importnantly we request that any troops in Brunei be used expressly for the defence of Brunei and be used opffensively agaist the NLA only once the NLA have openly tried to invade Brunei. This as you can nderstand is so that Brunei retains the morale high ground and is seen only as reacting rather than attacking.

Sincerely,
Minister of Defence and National Security

OOC: This BTW was supposed to have happended just after my post after the Hind Incident.

IC:

The Five EA-28 (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=66401)Special Forces Helicopters were flying low near the cost in close formation. Just a mile ahead they saw smoke rising from the border postiions and the Bruneain black hawks landing with extra troops and medevacing wounded. As they passed overhead many of the special operations soldiers sitting outside the helicopter saw the long lines of refugees some still traumatised by the NLA attack.

Two or three minutes later the choppers descended sharply just a kilometre into Sarawak where a Hind had crashed although the damage looked minimal. The pilot of the lead helicopter reduce the collective and just as he passed over the main coast road he dropped the chopper onto it, then the men jumped off grabbing their weapons. he heard the gunnery sergeant yell to him from outside, "Clear." With the knowldge thst everyone was out he sharply pulled the helicopter up as his co pilot jept an eye out for any threat prinicapply a lone soldier with a shoulder fired missile.

As the first six men cleared off the road and started making their way the hundred meters or so to the Hind (which was inconveniently in a rather wet and marshy rice field) the second helicopter touched down ever so briefly and after several minutes all of the helicopters were heading back to Tutong Airfield.

The 24 troops were now all approaching the Hind, and as hoped the crew was still in there, seemingly unconcious. Seregant Landau was taking point and he raised his Tavor assault rifle to the cockpit while two other men ran towards it and opended the canopy. They then checked the pilot and gunner over before pulling them out of the cockpit onto te ground. Sergeant Landau then rushed over and climbed into the pilot's seat and begain searching for maps, notes or anything useful.

Much to everyone's suprise the Pilot then came around, tried to resist before being punched back onto the swmpy ground. The gunnery sergeant then issued orders, "Okay you guys take these bast*rds back to the border and let the Bruneains interrogate 'em. Also give them the maps you found in the cockpit and see what we can learn."

Eight guys then grouped together and carrying the two NLA pilots they started heading back up the road to the border. The rest of the team attached some C4 to the Hind before moving out to the South.

Shamiyah Air Force Base, United Elias

Over two thousand men with equipment and vehicles were arriving on the airfield from the nearby headquarters of the 2nd Airborne division. Over thirty aircraft awaited them, mostly EA-80s (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=38933) Il-76s and An-124s.

Colonel Sharon Commander of 2nd Battallion was condfident in his men, and this was a straight forward FTI (Friendly Territory Insertion) and the plan was worked out. Around 1,200 of them would be paradropped on the Brunei side of the border while the remainder of the unit and the vehicles would simply use Seria and Tutong airbases and then deploy to positions nearer the border.

On the airbase ramp the first 'sticks' of men prepared to board their allocated EA-80s, they would be the first ones in and they were giong to have to jump into Brunei. One of the sergeants joked to his corporals. "Don't worry nothing we ain't done before, but if its windy we may end up falling right on to the turrets of the commie tanks."

Twenty minutes later the first ten EA-80A Transport planes each carrying 120 men taxied out onto te runway, turboprops spinning and ready for their ten and a half hour flight, including one air to air refuelling.

Combat Support Ship Suez, 60 nautical miles North of Brunei, South China Sea

The ship had stood down from GQ a while ago but for the 350 Marines aboard the 'fun' was just begning. On the flight deck the crews of six EA-24Hs (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=40824) were doing preflight checks as the troops loaded their equipment. Each bird was to make two flights to Tutong Airfield and their sonarbouy dispensers, dipping sonar and torpdoes had been removed to allow more Marines to cram in. The operation wasto be mildly more complicated than thought as a rather nasty tropical storm was set to move in, brining lightning, high winds and heavy rains.

The cargo ship pulled in to port at Kuala Baram and dock workers secured fully then began the process of unloading the cargo albeit with a discreet oberservation from the ships crew. The special cargo of men handled their own equipment and wouldn't allow the port workers or the ships crew to unload it.
The fairly large crates common to nearly anywhere and duffel bags were hauled away in to two large vans and driven away at a quick but not noteworthy speed.
The men inside had been fully briefed for the entire trip and spent long enough being trained how to create make-shift weapons as well as becoming the invisible arm of terror for what ever cause they had been told to fight for. The vans were driving along a long coastal road which would bring them all the way to the border but before then the vans turned off on to a dirt track then dissapeared amongst the terrain and the night.

United Elias:

OOC: sorry I dont have time to post IC but Im assuming from your region that your nation is in the Middle East and since you are taking troops to Brunei perhaps you could on the way back have your planes airlift some 2,000 or so Nimabatan soldiers back to the mainland since this is where we feel our priority must be. Also the planes can refuel in Rangoon while they offload so tankers arent needed. If neccessary they can use rangoon to refuel on the way to Brueni as well since you are supporting our cause.

6 miles inland of Seria: 19:45

Thirty Marines had been chosen for what they saw as a rather unpleasant task, to find a landing zone for the airborne and prepare it. Using six hummers, the only vehicles that had been aboard the Suez and had to be flown into Brunei under slung from the helicopters the troops quickly covered ground and eventually after two hours of searching they found an a relatively clear area of long grass just a few miles inland quite close to the border. Then for the two hours after that they had meticulously scoured the mile or so square area destroying any trees with explosives and checking for hazards. This complete and quite pleased with themselves the Marines set up a perimeter with their vehicles facing inwards. The lieutenant in charge then ordered that the radio beacon be switched on. Now all they could do was wait most sitting in the trucks to avoid the tropical down pour.

100 miles North of Brunei 20:05

In the cockpit of the lead EA-80 a buzz sounded in the cockpit and a co-ordinate flashed onto the moving map GPS. The co-pilot hen muttered, “Sir, we got the beacon.”

“Good, Marines didn’t let us down then.” The pilot then twiddled the autopilot heading knob slightly to put them on track for the LZ. The other 9 planes in the formation did the same.

*Fifteen Minutes Later*

The Lieutenant Colonel in charge of the air drop of some 1,200 men was monitoring the mission map in the hold of the first EA-80, along both sides and in the in the middle 120 Airborne troops were doing last minute equipment checks. At the rear and front of the cabin the indicator light changed from Green to Amber and the co-pilot gave the five minute warning over the announcer. From inside he could hear the pitch of the four state of the art turboprops changing as the plane slowed and an LCD screen near the loadmaster’s console showed that the aircraft was descending. The Gunnery Sergeant then stood up and taking responsibility for his stick he gave orders. “Stand Up” All the soldiers then raised from their uncomfortable canvass and metal seats. “Hook On.” The men sitting on the outside then attached their parachute cords to a rail on the side of the fuselage and the ones in the middle prepared to latch on as soon as the others had gone.
The two parachute side doors either side of the main ramp then slid open on command followed by the rear ramp which would be used to drop the two large ammunition crates.

In the cockpit the pilot checked his heads up display and saw tat they had reached 8,000ft and were flying directly towards the LZ. Just coming into view several miles away the dull glow of the Humvee’s headlights showing the drop zone, everything else around was black in the night sky. “Rather them than me…” The pilot then checked his instruments for the final time and brought the throttles completely to idle. There was another buzz from the mission map and the co-pilot flicked the cabin lights from amber to green.

Upon seeing this the loadmaster flicked a switch on his console and the ramp rollers slid the crates out of the aircraft and the attached cords caused the drogue chutes to open. Seconds later the gunnery sergeant standing between the two parachute cords yelled. “Go.” Then in quick succession soldiers on each side started jumping out, tehn more men moved up an djumoed out. Only minutes later all 120 hsd left and now the gunnery sergeant and the Lt-colonel fixed their own chutes before jumping out into the wet, dark Brunei jungle, hoping they would make the LZ and not end up in the trees.

In the cockpit the loadmaster’s ‘clear’ signal had come through and the plane climbed and accelerated as nine others prepared to do the same at two mile intervals. “Okay lets turn to 055 we’ve got some Nimbatans to pick up in Bandar Seri Begawan.”

3km North of Telingan, 2km West of Labi

Captain Chapital and his team surveyed their handiwork and moved out to the center of the impromptu drop zone. five thousand meters of detcord had been used to clear the trees necessary to create the required space and the small amounts of C-5 had been used on the rest of the stumps to create a softer landing zone. In the center lay the blinking IR lights of the PI in the shape of a large letter "A" letting the incoming pilots know that the drop had been approved and the area was safe. Another group of lights pointed an arrow in the direction of the wind gusts at surface level and four more lights marked the corners of the DZ.

Chapital looked through his monocle NVGs and found the flashing lights to ensure that they were still on before toggling his inner-ear mic. "Payday Zero-One this is Hardrock Three-Charlie. You are approved delivery and we're ready for you." His radio hissed and popped as the pilot called back.

"Hardrock Three-Charlie, this is Payday lead. Roger! Authenticate Bravo-India-Kilo."

Chappy looked at his authenticator chart and clicked back onto the net, "I read Hotel."

"Copy, Hardrock. We're four-zero-mike out and belly-full. Zero-one-five inbound with heavies and crunchies."

"Winds at surface are zero-two knots, heading one-six-five."

"Roger, Hardrock... approaching IP. Back in two-five-mike."

"Copy, Payday. Hardrock out!."

Aboard Payday 01 - AMC-1 Titan transport

The bright lights of the transport were shielded from view by the blackout covers across the few windows the the massive aircraft. All throughout the cargo bay the members of the 3rd Agnos Skyborne were making final checks of their gear and attaching their rucksacks and weapons. Already the jumpmasters were moving through the men already suited up and doing their JMPIs (JumpMaster Personnel Inspections) and the orders of "Arch your back! Turn! Which door? Hold and squat!" could be heard as the numerous jumpmasters ensured their troops were good to go.

Fifteen minutes later, the lights were off save for the red tactical lights, the DRF-1 troops of the 3rd were seated, JMPIed and ready to go to war. Mortar base plates, heavy weapons, ammunition were all strapped and attached to the appropriate troops and the plane stank of sweat and tears and, in some places, urine. The next five minutes went by way too fast for most. The primary jumpmaster stood up as did his primary assistant in a move that was mirrored in all fifteen aircraft as they soared towards their drop zone. The two looked at each other, the PJM nodded and they turned to their troops.

"TWENTY MINUTES!" the call echoed throughout the aircraft as the troops repeated it. Final prayers were uttered, a few men refused to go through with the jump and were moved to the ramp of the aircrfat where they would be out of the way. The other jumpers pulled on gloves, goggles and helmets. A few kissed religious emblems of pictures of their loved ones. In one stick a husband and wife waved to each other from across the aircraft.

"TEN MINUTES!" Again the call was repeated and static line snap hooks were unfasted from their reserve carrying handles. A few people vomited and were patted on the back by reassuring comrades. A few started to silently cry.

"GET READY!" The safety harnesses were removed and the jumpers looked to each other as a colelctive group, one last time.

"INBOARD PERSONNEL STAND UP!" The jumpmasters motioned to the troops seated along the middle of the aircraft and on both sides, fifty jumpers struggled to their feet, burdened by their gear.

"OUTBOARD PERSONNEL STAND UP!" Again the JMs motioned, but this time to the people along the skin of the aircraft and they too clambered to their feet, steadied by friends and fellow soldiers. They were a team and they worked as one.

"HOOK UP!" The motion came through and the call was repeated as the two hundred paratroopers of Payday 01 fastened their snap-link connectors to the static line cables and acquired the necessary bite of static line.

"CHECK STATIC LINE!" The call came, was repeated and the troops ensured a good three-finger bite of static line below their clenched fists. A few urinated on themselves at this point as they were now committed else they fuck their buddies. Jumpmaster safeties moved from the back of the stick to the front, calmly checking each static line to make sure it was routed correctly and the correct bite was held by each trooper. The excess was stowed in packtrays and the jumpers tapped the man in front on the helmet to tell him his gear was in order.

"CHECK EQUIPMENT!" The jumpers didn't bother to repeat this one as the nervousness built. The anxious jumpers hurriedly but efficiently checked their helmets, their parachute harness buckles and quick releases. They checked to ensure their ankle-knives were attached in case they needed to cut away.

"SOUND OFF FOR EQUIPMENT CHECK!" The jumpmasters called out once more and this time there was the roar of an eager echo. The troops were as ready as they would ever be. Nervousness turned into a tool as they used it to fuel their determination and. From the backs of the sticks to the front, the call of "Okay!" moved like a wave until the first trooper in each pass stuck out his/her hand to the jumpmaster and shouted "ALL OKAY JUMPMASTER!" The jumpmastere then smacked the hande and moved to their respective doors.

A few of the planes had jumpers with problems and they were quickly fixed, the troops ready once more. With a rush of air and a pop of decompression at low altitude, the troops doors hissed open and the wind deflectors deployed, altering the flow of the jetwash around the doorway. The jumpmasters checked that the doors were locked down and secure before grabbing the door frames and leaning out into the night, silhoutted in the doorway by the faintest of red glows. They looked up at the engines and wings, then the areas around the doors, swept them to ensure they were clear of debris and then looked for their PI on the ground.

When they each found what they were looking for, they looked back at the JM in the opposite door until he was ready and signaled with a thumbs-up. They then checked again and listened to their radios to what the pilots were saying before moving back in and turning to the first jumper in each stick. With a motion of blowing across the palm and a number of fingers, they indicated wind speeds of 5 knots and then moved back to look out of the planes. Seconds later they moved back in and gave a single finger signal.

"ONE MINUTE!"

Minute corrections in course atlered the direction of flight as the jumpmasters found the large infrared "A" in their NVGs and grinned. They looked back to each other and motioned "THIRTY SECONDS!" After a count of about five, each jumpaster in the ten troop carrying planes motioned to the lead jumper. "STAND-BY!" The jumpers moved into the doorways, eyes locked on the horizon.

Ahead of the ten troop aircraft, the rear ramps of the other five aircraft opened up and the first palettes pushed to a ready position. At a green light, the mechanical track tossed each bundle into the air where static lines yanked the parachutes open as the ten tanks, twenty IFVs and numerous assault vehicles dropped into the blackness of the dropzone Chappy and his team had made.

Inside Payday 01, the jumpmaster counted down in time with the pilot and the amber light over the door switched to green. "GO!" hardly needed in most cases, but in a couple it was, the jumpmasters put a foot on the ass of the first jumpers and kicked them out of the doors. The planes rumbled as the troops thundered past the JMs, handing off their static lines as he/she swept them out of the way and back into first, the hands of the JM safeties and then the loadmasters. Whent he full fifty troopers had cleared, the JM checked the door and jumped out after the troops, followed by the safeties. The five non-jumpers were de-rigged by the loadmasters as the static lines were drawn into the aircraft and the planes powered up, soaring into the night and climbing from the jump altitude of seven-hundred feet.

Above Chaptial and Team Three, the sky was filled with 2040 men and women of the 1st of the 3rd Agnos Skyborne. One batallion was now in country, sailing to the earth on the stretched canopies of their parachutes, approximately halfway between the towns of Labi and Telingen where they would shore up defenses and ensure that the towns didn't fall.

Sorry I haent got time today rof a huge RP post so this is a semi OOC post bascially outlining the tactical situation.

Just West of the border the troops that had attacked and 'liberated' move onwards along the coast road to Kuala Baram where they meet little resistcnace but they re cautious about moving across teh iver for fear of a Bruneian pre emptive strike before they are ready.

As the new communist government fo the self proclaimed @People's Socialist Republic' spreads its influence massive recruiting is taking place around the Western regions of Sarawak. Meanwhile large military forces including armour and infantry are starting to move our of Kuching towards the East and Brunei.

In the very Eastern most parts of Sarwak guerilla forces of teh Borneo Revolutionary Guards (BRG) the equivalent of the red Guard guerillas in the mainland war which have caused havoc for enemy supply lines and frontlines. They are mostly former special forces who fled Nimbata (and Sarawak) after communism fell four yearas ago and are now returning in large numbers from the Southern parts of Borneo to wage war against the capitalists. They are very skilled but poorly equipped.

In the town of Kualau Nyabor the airfield is being upgraded to make it the first fully paved runway in Eastern Sarawak and will eventually become home to three attack squadrons of Mig-19s and Mig-21s as well as a few Il-28 bombers.

West Bank of the Batang Baram River, 02:10

The convoy of approximately 50 tanks and 30 APCs rolled onwards towards the river, lucklily it was afull moon and visibility was good, ahead of them refugees were scrambling aboard small boats fror the trip across to the town of Kuala Baram just 5km from the border and hence safety. The NLA had been demoralised by rumours that just after dusk foreign troops ahd landed in Brunei and they were apparently not allowed to cross the river in case it antagonised the Bruneains into pre empting their iminent invasion.

In the third vehicle just behind two T-62s Privte Chan was stewing in hot diesel fumes and along with teh other seven rifleman was starting to think he rather be dead tahn in here for much longer. Suddenyl the gunner shouted back, "We're at teh river disembark".

They rushed out relieved taht fresh air greeted them and they took in teh situation around them. Infront about a hundred metres there was the river bank and either side of the road there were fields and in to the South what looked like some sort of rundown factory bout a mile away. Across the river the town of Kuala Baram and on the river there must have been a hundred tiny wooden boats and canores filled with people and belongigns fleeing the NLA and fleeing to Brunei, traitors to their country.

"Open Fire."

Private Chan obeyed teh order as did the rest and he brought his AK74SU to bear and fired semi automatic rounds at the boats killing women and children. Then the 12.7mm machine gun on the lead tank turret was loaded with a fresh ammo box and the tank commander sweeped the barrel acros the river slowly, tracer rounds pouring out.

Miri Airfield

The old and rathe rlarge Il-18 taxied onto the runway and then the four engines roared to full power in a swilr ofdust and a few ejections of smoke and oil. Then the plane started to lumber down the runway which was in appalling condition. The crew of 'Old Red Dog' had performed this mission before only now it seemed more real. The plane dated from 1968 but the equipment aboard was more recent only ten years of age and it was one of eight such planes that had been converted for signals intelligence and also maritime survellince

Seconds later 'Old Red Dog' perforemed a wide bank and flew out over the coast flying towards the 12nm teritorial limit and then it would turn and fly parrallel to Royal Brunei, listeninging and gathering intelligence.

Two F-14B Air Defence Fighters are on a Combat Air Patrol somewhere over Royal Brunei.

"Tomcat two zero, immdeiate vector 295, insenditfy bogey, 30 miles."

"Roger, vector and indentify."

The Two aircraft roll sharpy to a new heading then the swings sweep back as afterburners engage.

Six minutes later the lead Tomcat gets a visual on the Il-18 and slows while preapring to approach on its six. Meanwhile the other Tomcat hangs back ready to fire off AIM-7 Sparrow.

"STRATCOM, aircraft is type Illyushin 18 possile SIGINT Platform markings of the NLA."

"Two zero, you are clear to engage."

"We're not gonna try and force them to land."

"Negative too risky, we have to draw the line and this birds fair game. However you can try and bring them down with guns."

"Roger. Enaging 20 Mike Mike."

The lead Tomcat pilot then switches to his 20mm cannon and fires off a quick burst at the starboard wing of the Il-18 as the slower, far less agile plane seems to try and evade.

The pilot of 'Old Red Dog' jerked the control yoke to the side but befor ethe old slugish plane could react, 20mm shells had started slamming into the right wing, alarm bells ring in the cockpit.

"Fire in Engines 3 and 4!"

"Engage Fire Extinguishers, cut fuel flow."

"Roger, shutting down and cutting flow."

"Sh*t, we lost aileron control, I think debris might have hit starboard elevator, controls sluggish."

"Fire in 3 is out 4 is under control but we're losing fuel fast."

The Pilot checked the alitmeter: 18,000ft, and falling he couldn't seem to pull it back up and he'd lost all roll control. He yelled back to the navigator, "Can we get back do you think."

"No sir we're 22 miles North of Brunei over international waters."

"Roger", he clicked the on the radio breaking his strict radio silence. "Miri Tower, Old Red Dog mayday, mayday, mayday have been attacked by Bruneian fighter aircraft and going down!"

The operators in the cabiin rusehd to the back of the pane and grabbed paracutes before passing more up to teh cockpit, they were at only 11,000ft now.

The pilot shouted back, "Go, get out of here!"

The rest of the crew then rushed back to the exit behind the wing and flung open the doors before throwing themselves out of the plane.
A minute or two later the pilot abandonethe controls andalso jumped, theri fate was now out of theri hands.

A small command already established in the region, the troops now approaching the border carried nothing that could be used to identify them in a meaningful way.
Their mission to cause havoc to the civilians living in Burunei especially to those near the border, being only a small force compared to the group as a whole this force was travelling light with only limited ability to counter enemy forces should they be engaged.

Sub-Group Leader ,identified by his call sign Orwell only, watched his men re-check their equipment in preperation for the march on their target.

"Alright men gather round", rubbing his hand over his chin he waited till they were closer "We all know that this will a baptisim of fire but we have good intelligence and those cloak and dagger boys aren't to bad either" a few grins from the men but past that no sign of relaxing "It should be a soft target and that's all we're gonna go for, we aren't no shock troopers but you know that so harrasment and evasion is our objective"

The radioman called for Orwells attention and after a few moments he returned and told them all to saddle up and head for the first marker.

The military command authority had reacted swiftly and violently to the mayday call, in a clearing in the middle of he Jungle the 5th Missile Battallion had recieved their orders and it would be them who fired the first salvos of the NLA against Brunei who's brinksmanship had progeressed into acts of war.

The eighteen FROG-7 missiles were being fuelled and the trasnporter erector launchers raised them to the required angles.

Eleven minutes later the first of the huge missiles soared skyward in a trail of fire and smoke, six towards the air base at Tutong, six at the base at Seria and the rest at the town of Kuala Belait.

A pair of Il-76s were unloading Stryker APCs and crates of ammunition as trucks shuttled backwards and forwards from the large hangars. Although it was the middle of the night, the airfield was still bustling with activity as vehicles and equipment were being flown in to support the airborne troops already on the ground. Marines from the Suez provided security as well as the special forces personnel that had been recently recalled from the Brunei border areas due to impending conflict. An EA-28G light helicopter circled watching the surrounding jungle with infrared cameras.

Suddenly a loud claxon sounded in the hangars as and out on the tarmac, seconds later streaks of fire spurted from the Bruniean Patriot Battery stationed at the Southern end of the airfield.

“All personnel, missile attack imminent, bunker, bunker, bunker! This is not a drill”

The message repeated once or twice and guards ran to find cover, meanwhile the ground crew around the Il-76s abandoned the planes and ran towards the perimeter fence.

From behind a sandbagged machine gun position Sergeant Rashid was one of the only people looking in the direction of the planes not two hundred yards away and glancing skyward he saw one of the missiles scream earthward, he ducked not knowing where it would hit. He then looked up and saw a fireball erupt from near one of the planes and a fraction of a second later he heard the terrifying rumble of the explosion and the ground seemed to shake. Seconds after that there was another explosion as one of the Il-76s had been engulfed in flames ad the other looked doomed.

“Fire on the ramp, Fire on the ramp, all emergency teams activate immediately.”

Within a minute fire trucks and medical teams were rushing out towards the planes, which both continued to burn furiously and small explosions continued as ammunition boxes started to cook off. Already it was apparent that some of the crew hadn’t made it to safety in time and where killed in the explosion.

This act of war by the NLA rebels would now have to be avenged.

The team established a small camp on the high ground over the river and the road to Seria.
"Mortar crews established and the men are ready to move once we've finished bombardment"

Orwell nodded and checked his watch, "Okay, begin bombardment and then we move out to the next location"

Six M252 81mm mortars opened fire on Kuala Belait and after one minute of continuous firing they were packed up and all that could be seen of the groups presence was flattened terrain and footprints.

OOC:I haven't posted damage done or anything because I'm leaving that up to RB.

**14 ASOF HQ, Seria**

"Colonel Bray, the IPR-VII has identified fire incoming to Kuala Belait. Profile reads as mortars... We have the location but have no assets with which to conduct counter fires."

Bray looked up from the map he was poring over and frowned slightly. Taking another look at the data, he oriented himself on the town of Kuala Belait and looked for the nearest team he had. No one was within range to get there soon enough. "What is the position of the incoming fires?"

"Fires are coming from a position 5000 meters south of the city. Estimate between five and ten tubes, Sir."

"Very well... launch the QRF bird and escort. I want a team on the ground as soon a..."

"Sir, mortar fire has ceased! I say again, negative continuous contact on inbound fires."

"Shit! QRF launch now! They're going to be moving positions for another attack, I'm sure. And get a few of the attack birds on that border. I don't want these rat bastards to get away."

*Landing pad, Seria*

The AMH-2 Valkyrie's turbo-prop hissed a jet of steam into the air and then growled, swinging the rotors ponderusly around as the power and pressure began to build on the shaft. Dust devils began to kick up as the main rotor quickened and then roared into full power, small debris sent flying as the powerful ground effect swept off the blades. The in-tail stabilizing rotor also hummed to life, it's variable blades set to a neutral position.

At a signal from the co-pilot, the port-side crew chief slapped the controls of the ramp and watched it lower to the ground. Outside the aircraft, the starboard crew-chief was ensuring the weapons pods and missiles were good to go as the lay nestled beneath the lower wings. As the ramp eased onto the tarmac of the flight pad, the two ASOF teams scrambled aboard with their gear. Alread their shades were jacked in and their inner-ear mics turned on as they each received and viewed the mission brief as it was transmitted to their receivers by the TOC.

Overhead, two more Valkyries thundered past, pausing only briefly as Hawk-03 slowly lifted from the landing surface and into the sky. To each side, the crew chiefs racked the slides of their mini-guns and called out "Test fire!" as they unleashed a short burst to ensure weapons functioning.

The members of the two embarked teams started loading up their own weapons as well. Primary weapons were chosen from an approved list for each of their positions on the team. The heavy weapons gunner could choose from modified M-60s, SAWs, BARs, M-240 variants... point man could use MP-5s, Modified colts, AMR-5s... etc. Together, they checked their comms gear, their weapons, and the rest of their equipment.

The loadmaster looked back at the guys readying for ground combat. "Twenty minutes!"

Twenty minutes after themissile struck, the burning carnage on the airfield had been brought mostl under control and so far only seven men were unaccounted for but seventeen more had suffered appalling burns and shrapnel injuires.

In the prefab command building orderlies and offciers were scrambling around. Finally a more senior one entered, the Major had been out on the ramp checking on casualties.

Someone, send this message to the Ministry of Defence and copy to all units in Brunei, flash traffic:

They moved swiftly yet almost silently, they each new that danger was all around and the chance of rescue didn't exist in the slightest yet they were flushed with the thrill of their first strike which so far had been without loss or encounter with the enemy.

"We'll stop here for the night and then move to this location - pointing with a grubby finger at the middle of a map showing the region - and prepare for another bombardment, I want everyone but the mortar crews already moving before they open fire as next time they're gonna be ready" the men might be pleased with the first mission but Orwell was not as they still had several more to go and each one would become progressively harder.

"Alright sir, I'll tell the lads to cool it down and let them know about the next delivery procedure"

"Gibbs, how long till first communication with camp?"

"Still about two hours, sure they won't track us down if we transmit?"

Orwell nodded slowly, "You read the brief like everybody else so lets just hope it was worth it"
