War RP'ing Some Guidelines Missed

1) Don't even post your mobilizing 5% of your population for an OFFENSIVE... that's unrealistic for what happens when your invaded by a third party...where's your defence force???

2) Don't ever say you captured a city with 500,000 troops and left on another campaign with 500,000 troops. Atleast 2,000 must be left for anti-partisan, peace keeping, occupation, etc...

3) Where's the logistics. I commit this error all the time. Yea 2 million troops with no supplies doesnt quite roll...

4) Start OOC'ing the stats for your weapons because if you say your Abrams took out 5 Shermans everyone is going to ignore you because not everyone knows a Sherman sucks @$$.

any other ones?

To add to this great post

1.) Very very true, it is likely for the biggest offensive any nations should ever mount would be about 50% of your Military, and that is simply huge

2.) I think 2,000 is a bit low for a Major city, more like 10,000 I use

3.) Not to mention the troops needed to man these lines takes away, if you have already taken away from your military number for logistics, you should minus about 10% from your invading force for defending those lines, what good is 100 trucks with fuel if 1 Abrams can take it out

4.) Are you sure that wasn't supposed to be the other way 'round?
EDIT: I stand corrected, I had mis-read Number 4.

The Sherman is a WWII tank...

Nah, 4 makes sense if you think about it. An Abrams could take out a whole mess of Shermans, but not everyone knows that. He's saying that one might have to explain how good the Abrams is relative to its opponent.. y'know?

Yea I was trying to emphasis the point...

And also one more to add.

5.) You cannot simply go from 1.2% pop in your military to 5% it takes time to train all these troops and equip them and you cannot train them all at once, this is a particularly annoying problem with NS RPing. Something like adding maybe 100,000 troops to your force pool every 3 or 4 months is what I use, and even that is high.

(I could take out a Sherman by throwing enough empty Dr Pepper cans at it - and its pop-gun probably wouldn't even be powerful enough to puncture my shirt.)

Oh, and there's always exceptions. You have to be careful about who you're RPing with. Germany sent something like 3.3million of it's 3.8million man army into Russia. They didn't have much choice, since they were so heavily out-numbered. Uhm, so, yeah, if people are reasonable about the results, it is quite alright to break certain rules of thumb. They shouldn't be shouted down, unless they refuse to accept that.. well, they haven't finished the British yet, and north Africa's going to fall, heh.

This is what we're banking on with all the "over-grown pirates'-nest!" posturing ;)

But if they want to lose the war then that's ok. They should know that keeping 600,000 soldiers in two seperate theaters and having 3.3 million in another theater isn't wise.

Plus about 600,000 of those 3.3 million we're allied troops from Italy, Romania, Jugoslavia (the free part anyways), Bulgaria, Hiwis (Russians who hated the Stalinistic oppresion of the USSR).

Between war rps, you need to give your army time to recuperate. Your soldiers need time to rest and for any nondiabling wounds to heal. You also need time to acquire new weapons and troops to replace those killed or detroyed in the war.
Also your nation needs time to pay for the last war you did.
Don't forget time is needed to train these replacements also.

Yes, and your population also would be getting more and more weary as you keep fighting, that's when revolutions happen (Which of course, most people do not factor into NS rp).

Something that also adds to the flavor of an rp is for you to be dependant on certain resources from other lands. No nation has everything it needs, and when you have critical supplies coming from an ally (I get all my oil from an ally, during a war this made for some intersting Naval RP's of the war) or nuetral party it adds a lot to the Rp experience. It also adds more of a strategic sense to Rp war, your enemies Southernmost island is where he mines most of his coal or steel, invade it first to make his industries grind to a halt, he has to import most of his food, take those convoys out!

YES! That's a great point. I tried to incorporate that into my recent NDA war (which all they did was ignore us like all nazis do for some reason) by going for patroleum rich lands first to cut off his oil supplies.
