Well, for a small nation I suppose that's not bad, but if you give your people more civil rights your economy will produce more money.

Sorry to bother, I've got one more question. What's a good size for my Armed Forces? I'm a tropical island nation a little smaller than Cuba, no imperialistic desires, only interested in national defense and a police force for the waters within a 50-mile radius. What's a recommended number for the amount of aircract, naval fleet and tanks for my country?

I know there are a bunch of stickies about that, but basically for those purposes, you would want to enlist maybe .5% of your population. You'll have to figure out how many vehicles and such you have yourself (consider how many people are required for crews, maintenance, etc.) I suggest looking at the stickies on the NationStates and International Incidents forums.

Also, what would be a good size for a military of a nation of over 1 billion people? I have over 1.1 billion, and am currently trying to upgrade the military forces.

Depends on your purposes. For simple defense, you only need about .5% - 1%. If you're militaristic and/or planning to head into wars soon, anywhere from 2% - about 3%...4% if you're desperate. Any more than that and (if you follow common RP etiquette) and your economy will suffer heavily.
