Today, the Federation of Science and Technology's Starship Design Buerau unveiled a new design:
The Edison Class Exploratory Gunbat/Exploratory Corvette

Blurry, but smaller image

Hi-Res pic. Very large. You might want to download the newest version of Microsoft Internet Explorer, which automatcially reformats large images, to view this.
Please note the blue dots are the pulser emitters.
It has three sublight engines, located at the back of the nacelles, which are scaled down, slightly modified, from the Aristotle Class Exploratory Battlecruiser. These are for enhanced sublight manueverability and acceleration.
The design is a small ship biased toward combat, but, as with our tradition, signifigant scientific capacity. It breaks from our normal design lineage and has a roughly conical main hull and three nacelles, instead of the usual winged, two nacelle design.
Top Speed:
Sublight: .25c (c being the speed of light) limit imposed for relativity concerns by the computer. Top speed, theoretically, 99.99 (con't) % C
Faster than Light: 100c
Armament:*
3x Forward Energy Pulser Cannons
2x Forward Antimatter Torpedo Tubes
2x Rear Antimatter Torpedo Tubes
1x Ventral Mounted Antimatter Torpedo Tube
Crew: 25
Engines:
Sublight: 3 Ion Jets (Located at the back of the nacelles)
Faster than light: Spatial Distortion Drive (Located at the back of the ship)
Teleportation System: 1 Unit
Shuttles: 1 Type Alpha Shuttle
Length : 120 m
Decks : 6
2 Science Labs
The ships will go into production within the next few days in one of the four orbiting shipyards. The other three will be used for the construction of other types of ships. They will form the backbone of the defensive capacity of our spacefleet, just as the Bohr class science ship is planned to form the backbone of the scientific and exploratory aspect of our fleet.
They are not for sale any time in the forseeable future.
We seek comments on the design from the international community.
