Today, the Federation of Science and Technology's Starship Design Buerau unveiled a new design:

The Edison Class Exploratory Gunbat/Exploratory Corvette

Blurry, but smaller image

Hi-Res pic. Very large. You might want to download the newest version of Microsoft Internet Explorer, which automatcially reformats large images, to view this.

Please note the blue dots are the pulser emitters.

It has three sublight engines, located at the back of the nacelles, which are scaled down, slightly modified, from the Aristotle Class Exploratory Battlecruiser. These are for enhanced sublight manueverability and acceleration.

The design is a small ship biased toward combat, but, as with our tradition, signifigant scientific capacity. It breaks from our normal design lineage and has a roughly conical main hull and three nacelles, instead of the usual winged, two nacelle design.

Top Speed:
Sublight: .25c (c being the speed of light) limit imposed for relativity concerns by the computer. Top speed, theoretically, 99.99 (con't) % C
Faster than Light: 100c
Armament:*
3x Forward Energy Pulser Cannons
2x Forward Antimatter Torpedo Tubes
2x Rear Antimatter Torpedo Tubes
1x Ventral Mounted Antimatter Torpedo Tube
Crew: 25
Engines:
Sublight: 3 Ion Jets (Located at the back of the nacelles)
Faster than light: Spatial Distortion Drive (Located at the back of the ship)
Teleportation System: 1 Unit
Shuttles: 1 Type Alpha Shuttle
Length : 120 m
Decks : 6
2 Science Labs

The ships will go into production within the next few days in one of the four orbiting shipyards. The other three will be used for the construction of other types of ships. They will form the backbone of the defensive capacity of our spacefleet, just as the Bohr class science ship is planned to form the backbone of the scientific and exploratory aspect of our fleet.

They are not for sale any time in the forseeable future.

We seek comments on the design from the international community.

Oops, sorry. I forgot to include a strong no option... just pertend the strong yes is not there.

EDIT: Hmm... the poll dissapeered. Has anyone had this happen to them before?

Yeah. If you decide to edit the post, poll goes away.

Thanks for telling me. Care to comment on the design?

I like the specs, it's a decent ship for a young nation such as yourself. (This is assuming you are a space nation from the start.) But, the picture provided just looks like a lump of black goo to me.

Although you should wait longer before adding weaponry, it takes time and money to research it. Also, the engine is slightly too advanced for your age. Hmmm... actually, I ignore any nation who claims to have teleportation technology. It allows for instantaneous troop transports, regardless of their range, so it believe it to be a godmod.

OOC: I started out in space, so no, the technology overall is not a godmod. The pulsers are a weapon we designed by accident really... we found some crystals in the mountains, ran electrictity through them, and based on the density of the crystal, they produced different types of energy beams. We have an auto-swapping out of different crystal densities in our cannons. Antimatter torpedos, could, theoretically, be produced in RL today... whether we would want to is another story. :) The spatial distortion drive is a simple variation on warp drive, as presented in Star Trek. A field wraps space-time into a bubble around the ship. The only difference is that the ship is not propelled with this field through some "technobabble." It pushes out smaller bubbles of space-time out of the back of the field, provided propulsion.

As for the teleportation, it's a simple pad. The one on this ship can only teleport three people at a time (hardly enough for an assault). If I RP with you at any point, we can just pertend that I don't have it.

And if you don't have updated software, that reformats an image's size so you can see it better... the image might just look like black goo. I'm working on reformatting the size myself to upload and put in the thread as an [img] tag thing.
