Early this week, construction crews finished the construction of a mass driver facility at Victoria Spaceport as crews completed the installationg of the mass driver's fusion generator power source. The mass driver facility was built near the shipyard factory complex on the southern end of the seaside spaceport, with the launch rails running from the mainland launch area to an island two miles south the facility.

Earlier today the space division of the Self Defense Forces announced after the successful testing of the mass driver three days ago that it would be put to use immediately to launch two new space carriers that had been recently constructed at the Victoria shipyard factories. The mass driver will also be used to launch the fleet of shuttles currently in use by both the RPRA Research Labs space division.

The launching ceremonies for the two new ships will take place later this week. We will be showing live coverage of the launching ceremonies for the ships.

Construction on the mass drivers began during rebuilding and repairs at Victoria after the massive quake that occured 16 months ago.

Also this week, the last of the government departments still housed in the old capital city were finally moved to new, modernized facilites in the new captial, Ionia City. The move was planned to begin later this year, but was pushed several months ahead when several government buildings collapsed in the massive quake 16 months ago.

Victoria Shipyard Drydocks, 2 hours before launch...

Engineering teams scrambled around the docks trying to finish up the last of their final checks on the exteriors of the two ships. Others worked to finish loading supplies into the cargo holds. Empty carrier trucks left the hangar bays of the two ships.

'Attention. Attention. In two hours, the assault weapons carriers Triton and Bladewood will launch for space. All officers, engineers, and mobile weapons pilots are to report to their assigned ships in one hour. Launching ceremonies will begin in one hour, fifty minutes. Captain Edwards and Captain Allen are to report to the main office immediately. That is all." announced a voice over the dock's loudspeaker system.

Victoria Shipyard Military Command Office, 1 hour, 45 mintues before launch...

Captain Edwards and Captain Allen made their way into the main office. Awaiting them was the recently appointed commander of the new space fleet, Fleet Admiral Greenwood. Both captains removed their hats, tucking them under their arms, and saluted the admiral.

"Captain Edwards of the Triton and Captain Allen of the Bladewood reporting as ordered, sir." said Captain Edwards.

"At ease gentlemen. Have a seat and we'll get down to discussing the details of your first mission." the admiral replied.

Both captains sat as the admiral pulled a file folder out from under a stack of papers on his desk. He opened it up and looked it over.

"Your ships, while structurally complete and spaceworthy, aren't really that complete at all. The ships were designed with several new experimental systems. Most of these systems were developed by Lordinum Electronics, a civilian corporation based out of the Lordinum Colony Cluster out in Lagrange Point 3." the admiral started to explain. "The first mission for you guys is to head up there to the Lordinum 8 colony, where the corporation's main factory facility is based, and have them complete the ships. They also have some equipment they want tested on the Mk-II power suits. Take care of that as well." he finished.

Both captains nodded to the admiral. Admiral Greenwood closed up the file and buried it back under the stack of papers he pulled it out of.

"After things are taken care of up there, both ships will remain in the L3 area to parol the Lordinum Colony Cluster. With that order, we're done here. Any questions?" The admiral asked and leaned back in his chair.

"Sir, how long will we be patroling the colony area?" Captain Allen asked.

"The assignment is for 6 months. By then we'll have several new vessels deployed to take over the patrols. Captain Edwards, do you have any questions?" Admiral Greenwood asked as he turned to Captain Edwards.

"I have none at this time, sir." the captain replied.

"Then we're finished here. Both of you are dismissed. Good luck to you on your mission." The admiral stood up and and saluted the two captains, who both stood, saluted back, and exited.

Victoria Shipyard Drydocks, 2 mintues before launch...

Lieutenant Julie Rowe watched the end of Fleet Admiral Greenwood's speech to the spectators and media on her operator's console. She looked quite bored listening to the speech. She played with her headset while waiting for the technical operator, Lieutenant Eric Scott, and the captain to report to the bridge. The sound of the bridge door sliding open got her attention as she sat there playing with her headset. She glanced over to her left to see Lieutenant Scott enter. He walked over to his seat behind Julie and got himself settled in.

"Hey Eric. You ready for this?" Julie asked, turning her head back to look at her fellow operator.

"Kinda. This is a whole lot different than an aircraft carrier. I don't even know what half these systems do." he replied, pointing out the listing of systems he's supposed to monitor on his console.

The bridge door opened once more. Both Eric and Julie turned to see Captain Edwards walk onto the bridge. He nodded to the two officers and made his way to the captain's chair, sitting down on it. All the officers on the bridge turned to their captain and watched him. He glanced at the two panels on the arm rests of the seat and looked over some of the data on them. He then glanced at his watch. It was now 1:00 pm, launch time.

"Its time everybody. Begin launching sequence." Captain Edwards ordered.

Everyone turned back to their consoles and began the task of getting the ship launched.

"Gravity diffusion systems online. Main engines powered up and on standby. Main navigation systems online." said one of the helmsmen as he read his monitors.

"Communications online. Radar and sensor systems online. Internal systems are reading green." said Lieutenant Scott as he checked over his console.

"All power suits and mobile armor are locked in their restraints. All pilots are on standby." said Lieutenant Rowe.

"Very good. Lieutenant Scott, do we have clearance to depart?" the captain asked, turning to his right and glancing behind him at the technical operator.

"Yes sir. Victoria Control has given tauthorization to depart and head out to the mass driver." he replied.

"Helmsman, take us out. Head out and ascend 100 meters and circle around to the mass driver." the captain ordered as he turned back forward.

The Triton raised off of its docking pad with the aid of its gravity diffusers and advanced forward out of the drydocks. Over in the other docking bay the Bladewood was lifting off to follow the Triton out. As the two ships emerged from the drydock facility, the crowd of spectators and media crews that had gathered, cheered as the two ships became visible. The two ships rose into the air once they cleared the docks and circled around above the crowd, making their way over to the mass driver facility.

Victoria Mass Driver Facility

The Triton descened down to the mass driver's launch cradle, slowly lowering onto it. Magnetic locking clamps connected to the ship's hull, securing it on the cradle. The Bladewood hovered behind the facility, waiting for its turn to launch.

"Attention Triton, the mass driver's systems are all green and you've been cleared for launch. The driver will launch you in 20 seconds. Good luck to you and peace." came a voice over the bridge's speaker system from one of the driver's controllers in the operations center.

Everyone on the bridge looked out the windows down the mass driver's rails, waiting for the ship to move. After the 20 seconds had passed the ship finally moved, running down the rails at high speed. As it hit the end of the drive ramp the magnetic clamps released, sending the ship upwards towards the heavens. Its engines powered up to full speed once it cleared the driver. 40 seconds later the Bladewood was right behind the Triton.

Both ships cleared the atmosphere. Waiting for them up there were six Mobius Zero mobile armors which took escort formations around the two ships as they made their way out into open space. After 10 minutes of flight the armors split up into two groups of three, one group heading to land in each ship's hangar bays.

Thank you! We'd love to have our ships join up with Tengai. We're not sure on how long it'll be before the new ship designs are put into full mass production, and we'd hate to have just the two ships up there alone.

Concerning the joint RPRA space fleet, perhaps we should meet in person and discuss the formation of such a fleet.
