The Rolyvian President, Roland Banzer, made a historical decision just today during a press conference: "I think it's time for Rolyvia to keep growing bigger and bigger, it's time for the people to choose their leader and with him, carry this country towards democracy."

Since its foundation, Rolyvia never held a democratic election, the 1st president, Rolando, took power right after independence and later on was overthrow by the Socialist Party and since then, the new president, Roland Banzer chose his own cabinet and the National Council without the representation or say from the citizens. He refused for years to start an election until just a few days ago when he aproved the creation of new political parties, a hard decision in a 'one legal party' country.

But now, President Roland Banzer, who's 71 years old decided to give the Rolyvian people their very first democratic elections, "after thinking a lot about this, I decided that someone has to take this big step, and that someone is me..." said President Banzer during the press conference.

The first democratic election will be held on January 4th, 2004, the Rolyvian Independence Day, "I think this is the best way to celebrate freedom" said President Banzer to the reporters.

Everyone is looking forward for that historic day, the brand new parties are working hard to catch up and gain support, the race for the Rolyvian Presidency had just started. The party with the majority of the votes will win, if none gets the majority (50% + 1) then the 2 with more votes will go to a "2nd round".

Who are the new parties or the new candidates? Is Rolando coming back from assylum to try to take over the Presidency in the name of Capitalism? Will the current President Roland Banzer go for this second term and keep the Socialist Party as the majority? None knows the answers to these questions...yet. The only thing in which every Rolyvian agrees is that democracy is finally part of their lives.
