A nation spies on the world. (RP only)

17-09-2003, 04:40
High in orbit above the blue globe, a lone satellite was awakening and performing its programmed duties. The first, and currently only, satellite sent up by Scythirus was none other than a spy satellite. It took photos of regions that the large nation secretly opposed—regions of the Western world. It concentrated primarily on the North American continent which Scythirus felt was the center of the "Western evil" it despised. But also it took pictures of Europe, South America, and Australia; all which were seen as Western outposts.

The satellite would beam these pictures down to the nation of Scythirus far below where the national intelligence would plot and scheme on how to put them to use. Scythirus would have its moment to rise against its perceived enemies, and all thanks to a small little satellite that the rest of the world did not know the nature of nor cared about.

Dictator Anderson sat in his office, working.

So many issues to deal with...

Dictator Anderson was on the nation of Gurian on the Island of Gorlon. Not quite on the North American continent, but rather in the Carribean. So, of course, the satellite did take a few pictures of Gurian.

This was duly noted, but barely given a second glance. Hundreds of spy satellites circle the world, taking pictures of every possible nation. Dictator Anderson would have liked it if this didn't happen, but Gurian didn't exactly have the military might to challenge every nation that might be observing them from the sky.

Dictator Anderson sighed, took a brief pause, and continued with his work as an assistant brought the daily Spy Satellite report to his desk.

He glanced it over. Five satellites...not too bad. Better than yesterday's seven, he thought. None of the satellite's nations of origin could be identified...easily anyway.

Dictator Anderson sighed again, slightly frowning, and continued his work.

Mr 47 sat in his office, reading reports.
As he leafed through the papers he noted the satilite that had snapped a few pictures of GLAHQ, or at least tried to. Thankfully the AntiBallistic Missile Shield that always hovered over the country interfered with the satilites ability to send signals. All that would arrive at the nations capital would be static and maybe the tip of GLACORP hq.

Emperor Krildahd Voramix stepped into the intelligence center in Jihamed, capital of Scythirus. As usual, he was demanding a progress report on how the nation's spy satellite was performing. Naturally, his intellegence officers had wonderful news. The satellite was performing flawlessly and received another batch of aerial photographs.

The Emperor looked over each of the printed copies with great interest. Scythirus would rise soon to be a super power at this rate of success. He looked over one most curiously... Gurian, he was told it was. Such an intriguing infrastructure, he thought. Passing it, he looked at the rest of the photographs, studying each with equal interest.

For the record, we are doing our recon patrol over Menelcamarian North america...Actually, we have just finished, and are headed back to mozambique...Hold on...We see some kind of object...MAke sure to avoid it echo one."Said the MOHA interceptor pilot, as the planes elevated a bit as not to slam into the thing.

You know...Gurian could use a method to keep spy satellites from snapping photos. Maybe some kind of a web, or system. Dictator Anderson thought. But of course that would be expensive. Dictator Anderson hit the buzzer on his desk, calling for an assistant. The door creaked open as an assistant entered.

"What would you like?" the assistant asked.
"Could you please get our scientists working on a way to nullify the effects of spy satellites?" Dictator Anderson replied.
"I'll have them begin immediately."
"Thank you for your help. Without you guys, I couldn't run this country."

Dictator Anderson smiled as the assistant walked out of his office.

I hope the scientists have luck, he thought.
17-09-2003, 05:09
Suddenly there was a curse from the control panel, and a few more from other technicians. That was when the ballistic missile had hit Scythirus' satellite. Static indeed was received and Emperor Krildahd Voramix demanded to know what was wrong.

"We've lost the satellite, Your Majesty," a technician said. "The satellite's been destroyed."

This enraged the Emperor to no end, and he demanded how.

"We can only assume someone discovered it and destroyed it."

An officer approached the Emperor, "At least we've gotten countries that matter the most... like the U.S., Your Highness."

"Yes," the Emperor said. "Yes indeed...." He looked to the room. "I will bring attention to our space program that we need another satellite. Back to work!"

"Echo two, echo two, we are getting hot, i repeat, we are getting hot!" said the two, as the planes split as the missile raced upwards. "No, its not after us, its..."Said the pilot, interrupted as they saw the spy satelite explode with ferocity."Holy crap...Take pictures echo two, i think we could get something for brigning info like this into the boss man...maybe get a plane up to analyze the fragments"Echo one said, as the planes began heading back to chellis, low on air.
17-09-2003, 05:19
The administrator of the Scythirian Space Program stared dully at the Emperor and his escort. "Fortunately, this did not go unexpected. We knew that it was a possibility that someone would discover it. So we have been already working on a second satellite. We should have it ready to launch quite, quite soon."

"Excellent," Emperor Krildahd Voramix replied, "that's just what I wanted to hear." With that, he turned and left the office. Nothing would stop Scythirus now.

President Forrest watched as technicians scuttled around, repairing the Presidential Mansion. It was nice to be back. As he slid into his chair, he was handed a report on some sort of explosion over North America..The work of an international leader was never done.

Dictator Anderson sat at his desk, looking over the report.

The same spy satellite that passed over Gurian was destroyed. Interesting, he thought. Dictator Anderson gave it another quick glance, and then put it into a pile with his other reports. I wonder whose satellite that was.

Dictator Anderson looked over another report about this mysterious satellite. It intrigued him.

Adornia seems to be studying it. I'm curious to know about its origins, he thought.

Thinking for a few moments, Dictator Anderson decided to write a little to Adornia. He would love to have some Gurian scientists working with that satellite. And besides, he thought. It's a great way to make a new friend. Dictator Anderson took out a sheet of paper and began to write.

[code:1:c3234500ed]Dear Adornia,

I have noticed that you are sampling a downed spy satellite. Our sources indicate that the spy satellite was found taking pictures of Gurian shortly before the incident. I am intrigued by it, and would like to know to whom the satellite belongs.

I will make this brief. I request permission to send a team of Gurian scientists to Adornia to work alongside your Adornian scientists. It would be a great example of cooperation between us, and would fulfill my curiousity. Please respond soon.

Sincerely,
Christopher Anderson

Three more chellian aircraft returned, one with some sort of large container under it, and two decked out with armament. They had been heading towards it, when they noticed the Adornian craft."Adornian craft, this debris has been found by chellian athorities and belongs to Menelcamarian authorities for testing. Dictator Anderson turned on his computer and logged on his new News Database. The fight over the debris immediately caught his eye. Maybe I can help, he thought. Dictator Anderson hit his intercom button.

"Have the Minister of Defense come to my office."

It was around now that Dictator Anderson noticed the letter from Adornia. In all this excitement, I guess I haven't opened it, he thought. Dictator Anderson opened the envelope and read the letter. He seems like a good man. We shall get along famously. Around now, the Minister of Defense entered the room.

"You called?" he asked.
"Yes," Dictator Anderson said.
"What about?"
"I have a mission for you."
"And what would this be?"
"Debris from a spy satellite has been recovered by Adornia. However another country, Chellis, is claiming it. I would like you to move in some Gurian Military to help support Adornia."
"I'll get right to it."

The Minister of Defense turned around and ran out of the room. He was obviously eager to get to work.

===

The Minister of Defense stood in Gurian's Central Military Command. He gazed at the screen in front of him, showing troop positions.

"USS Buri, Nimitz class Aircraft Carrier. It seems to be within a few hours sail of the location, but the aircraft could get there sooner."

The Minister of Defense pondered what to do a few moments, and checked to see if there were any better courses of action. Satisfied, he turned to a nearby technition.

"Inform the USS Buri that they are to set sail to these GPS coordinates. They are instructed to help Adornia keep control of the wreckage. And have them send a few planes ahead to keep things cool while the USS Buri moves in," he requested.
"Alright," the technition replied.

===

Aboard the USS Buri, Captain Heath heard the orders.

"Helm, set a course to the GPS coordinates that I have relayed to you. Full speed!" the Captain demanded.
"Aye sir," the Helm Officer responded.

The USS Buri began to turn. The speed increase was easy to notice. The ship was moving quite rapidly.

"Have Squadron One launch and move to the coordinates at thieir top speed," the Captain ordered.
"I'll deal with it," the First Officer reponded, stepping off the bridge.

Only about fourty-five seconds passed between Captain Heath's order and Squadron One taking off. They were midair, heading at full speed toward the specified GPS coordinates.

===

Squadron One continued at full speed toward the coordinates. Their speed gave them a definite advantage. They were a mere two minutes away from the specified coordinates.

On another note, I am sure that you have noticed that we have sent a squadron of Fighter Jets from a nearby Aircraft Carrier to assist you. I do not want any fighting, but if fighting does break out I would like you to be protected.

Watch Commander Gareth: What do you mean "it disappeared"?

Watch Analyst: Just that, Commander. We switched to MSAT 3 once the bandit began it's active ranging sweep. Not soon after, it's transmissions ceased.

Watch Commander Gareth: No visual contact?

Watch Analyst: Negative. We lost all visuals between the interchanging feeds. All we can detect now is a debris field orbiting somewhere between the 180-200 kilometer range.

Watch Commander Gareth: Debris? Are you saying someone took it out?

Watch Analyst: The evidence certainly suggests that, commander. We tracked an unknown incoming object just moments before we lost signal. Whatever it was, it got there fast. We are attempting to triangulate a point of origin.

Watch Commander Gareth: What was the bird's position?

Watch Analyst: It was actively ranging parts of the North American continent.

Watch Commander Gareth: [watching monitors] Marker Leland-Echo 4...That was the Scythirusian's new bird wasn't it?

Watch Analyst: That's how ASRAT pinned it, sir.

Watch Commander Gareth: I'll have to contact the High Command, there will be several parties who would be interested in the recovery of the debris of Leland-Echo 4. How much longer is MSAT 3 in range?

Watch Analyst: 6 hours, sir.

Watch Commander Gareth: Maintain visual contact for as long as you can. I want to know who comes looking for that wreckage. In the mean time, keep trying to find out who fired that damned shot.

Watch Analyst: Aye, Commander. One more thing sir, MSAT 7 pinged back this image on a recent pass over Scythirusian airspace. [brings up image on monitor]

Watch Commander Gareth: [the image is grainy, but the unmistakable shape of a rocket in pre-launch phase is clearly shown.] Is that what I think it is, Ensign?

Watch Analyst: It's too early to tell, but I would venture to guess that's it's carrying a similar payload.

Watch Commander Gareth: They certainly don't waste any time, do they?

Watch Analyst: It certainly appears that way, sir.

"Theres something on this screen youd better look at, sir."

General Maldoff looked over his shoulder at the computer-operator who had spoken. He took a puff of his cigar and turned around.

"Sir, it seems as if Adornia and Chellis have destroyed one of the sattelites weve got under surveilance and are salvaging the remains. Gurian seems to be supporting one of the factions, sir."

Maldoff stared at the blips on the screen. That sattelite had been targeted for the new Icarus-project, which involved feeding a sophfisticated computer-virus to the spy-satelites of potential enemies.
If the owner of that sattelite figured out about Icarus...
"Wed better inform the Leader about this." He walked over to a comm-unit and pressed a simple four-digit code. "I need to speak with the Secretary. Its urgent."

*************************************************************

The Leader sat in his dark office, staring out across the sprawling metropolis that was Albananias capitol. When the message reached him, he stared at it for a while. Then he picked up the phone.
"Secretary, I will speak with General Maldoff. Now." there was no reply.

Minutes later, Maldoff entered the office.
"Sir?"

The Leader stared at him for a while, ice-blue eyes examining every detail on the officers person.
"You will launch a spy-vessel to these co-ordinates. There it will stay for as long as needed, bringing us any details of this operation. Also, I would like a member of my Elite Guard sent to Gurian posing as an envoy. That is all you need to know."

The General only nodded, and left the office.

Just miles outside of Jihamed, the capital of Scythirus, a new rocket was built and ready for launch. In the command center, the Emperor accompanied by his usual group of Scythirian guard watched as technicians operated the many control panels.

"They may have thought they won by blowing up our satellite," Emperor Krildahd Voramix chortled to a guard. "But soon they'll be in our visual once again!"

"Beginning countdown," a technician said over the intercom. The countdown started and all personnel near the rocket cleared the area. Krildahd grinned wider and wider as each number was counted. Finally the count of zero was reached and the unmanned rocket carrying the new spy satellite was speeding upwards into the sky.

Krildahd continued to grin as he watched the scientific marvel slowly disappear into the blue expanse. "This calls for a celebration back at the Palace."

Suddenly an intelligence officer burst into the control room, sweating frantically. "Your Majesty, three separate countries have captured the downed wreckage of our last satellite for investigation!"

Emperor Krildahd Voramix turned his head towards the man, "Send a spy to their confirmed location and make sure they find out nothing. Their investigation is to be sabotaged!"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The news wasn't slow to broadcast the launch of the new satellite: "In other news, Scythirus has launched its second satellite ever. Like the first, still in orbit*, the nation refuses to disclose its nature for national security. The Emperor of that country has called for a celebration of its progressing space program."
*OOC: The news is oblivious that the destroyed satellite was Scythirus' first.
In the peaceful nation of Yshurak, President Jan Horembolg was watching the news. He stroked his chin over the seemingly strange importance of a suspected spy satellite. He also found it a strange coincidence that Scythirus launched another satellite just shortly after. Having a nation that was always built on peace, he found some international disputes to be rather odd.
Oh well, it was time to get to work. He turned off his television and stepped into his office and sat at his desk. So many passed laws set for his approval... his presidential duties were never over.
High in the upper thermosphere bordering on the lower exosphere, the rocket from Scythirus was nearing its destination. Section after section fell from the rocket, burning up in the atmosphere as they fell back down to Earth. Finally the final section of the rocket flung free the new spy satellite into orbit in the exosphere.
For a moment, the new stellar object drifted in its stable position before beaming back down a signal to Scythirus. The new satellite was now operational and ready to broadcast more captured photographs back to the intelligence office in Jihamed.
In the Imperial Palace in Jihamed, the Emperor of Scythirus was celebrating the success of his new spy satellite. His many generals and high officials were gathered together in the dining hall, ready to begin their feast. Emperor Krildahd Voramix lifted his wine glass as he stood.
"Gentlemen and colleagues, a toast to our new satellite—may she live on further than the last and further Scythirus' cause!"
The gathered generals and officials stood and raised their own glasses to the toast before sipping the wine they contained. Krildahd sat back down first, and then the rest and immediately began eating the feast.
A messenger entered the dining hall with a report. The spy/saboteur had been successfully planted into the Ardonian/Chillesean/Gurianese investigation. Everything was working accordingly to their plan.
Watch Analyst: Commander! Long-range scans have detected a launch!
Watch Commander Gareth: What's the read on ASRAT?
Watch Analyst: It's the second Scythirusian vessel, sir! It has deployed it's third stage and appears to be slowing into orbit.
Watch Commander Gareth: Keep a visual on it's payload, Ensign.
Watch Analyst: It's confirmed sir. It's the same satellite.
Watch Commander Gareth: Bring Grids Delta and Gamma to ready level 2. This may be our only shot. We'll have a window of only seconds when the bird goes online.
Watch Analyst: [switches to intercom] Attention all stations, attention all stations. This is Gamemaster Control switching to ready level 2. I repeat, all stations boot systems to ready level 2.
Watch Commander Gareth: Look alive, control. It looks like Marathon will be getting a field test ahead of schedule. I want items 4-8 eliminated from the system checklist, we may have to shoot from the hip on this one. [switches off intercom] Ensign, what's the status on that intel analysis?
Watch Analyst: Preliminary data suggest that the bird wasn't carrying any weapons, Commander. We believe it was shot down because of what it saw, not what it was carrying.
Watch Commander Gareth: Just what is it that you think it saw, Ensign?
Watch Analyst: You'll know as soon as I do, sir.
Watch Commander Gareth: Look alive, kid. Things are liable to get interesting around here.
Watch Analyst: You got it, sir.
Watch Commander Gareth: [removes commlink and walks back to an elevator which quickly lowers him into Watch Command Briefing Quarters.] Computer...?
Computer: Yes, Commander?
Watch Commander Gareth: Send a secure protocol message to the High Command. Encryption level: Epsilon.
Attention High Command. Marathon Project brought to ready level 2. Activation considered eminent. Requesting assistance of the Chrome Koran. Intel suggests possible virus threat.
The Scythirian spy satellite continued the duties of its predecessor as it snapped photographs of primarily the North American continent, as well as South America, Europe, and Australia. Its signal beamed these pictures down to Jihamed in Scythirus and intelligence continued as usual after its brief interruption. Soon Emperor Krildahd Vormix would know everything he needed for his secret campaign against the Western style of civilization.
Watch Commander Gareth: The bird is hot! Look Alive! All stations! Give me a go/no-go for activation!
Telemetry Analyst: Telemetry go!
Array Spread Anaylst: AS go!
Data Stream Analyst: Data go!
CAPCOM Technician: CAPCOM go!
ASRAT Monitor: ASRAT go!
Watch Analyst: Watch Command go, sir!
Watch Commander Gareth: Give me a count, Ensign.
Watch Analyst: Array will come into alignment in...T-MINUS 8...7...6...5...4...3...
As the watch commander silently counts along, he turns his key to activate power to the array switch. The very survival of this program, and possibly his career, rested on a theoretical property of particle wave physics that he hoped was about to take place. A small portion of the Omnicast Mainframe had been devoted to handling the massive influx data that would surely follow, to power down the system now would cause unacceptable damage. He held his breath, and lowered his finger...
Watch Analyst: 2...1...We have alignment!
Watch Commander Gareth: Engaging.
His finger comes down onto a button. For a brief moment, what was once possibly the busiest room in The Protectorate, falls silent.
In space, there is little sound. However, if one were able to reach into empty space with their bare skin, they would allegedly be able to feel the white-hot pulse of radio waves in space. What would likely be a deafening sound within the atmosphere was reduced to hum that could be felt throughout one's entire body. Far above North America, a gird of small satellites began working as a hive-mind. A metaphorical think-tank of orbital machines, exchanging data at the speed of light, used their combined power to literally listen to the entire planet.
Watch Commander Gareth: Ensign...?
Watch Analyst: ...Standing by, sir.
Watch Commander Gareth: [whispers under his breath] Come on, Big M....Talk to us.
Just then, every monitor at Watch Command comes alive. Light pours into the room as data streams across the screens. The whirr and hum of computers churning away at the frightening amount of data pouring into their systems fills the room.
Watch Analyst: Sir, I....I think it worked.
Watch Commander Gareth: [As he lowers his head and slumps into his chair, he softly says...] All stations, good job.
The first yips and yells come from the Telemetry Station, then soon the entire Watch Command is alive with activity. The Watch Commander rises and flips a switch on his intercom.
Watch Commander Gareth: Ensign, open a secure channel to the High Command.
Watch Analyst: Ready when you are, sir.
Watch Commander Gareth: This is Watch Commander Gareth. Marathon Array functioning within parameters. Coverage of intercept believed to be total. Stand by for live transfer.
The Watch Commander removes his intercom and places it on the switchboard.
Watch Commander Gareth: Take a break, Ensign. The ball's in the High Command's court now. Let's see if their new "recruits" are as up to this job as they say they are.
Much puzzlement was filling the intelligence headquarters in Jihamed as a strange static began to fill into their once clear images. Technicians scratched their heads as they tried upping the resolution. Still not much help but the images were coming in better. Something was apparently wrong.
"Why is there so much interferance?" an officer demanded.
"I don't know, it's like something is getting in the way of the signal," replied a dumbfounded technician.
"Well find out what it is, we want clearer pictures."
"Yes sir...." the technician spoke. Several hours of troubleshooting and study while the satellite streamed down its photographs, the technician was able to isolate the signal that was frustratingly interfering with the images. He grumbled, puzzled still by what it meant and using the limited resources available to the Scythirian equipment. Another hour passed when he began to piece together the puzzle.
The officer returned to his side, "Well, have you figured out the problem?"
"Yes, I believe I have. There's a signal tapping into our satellite from several others."
The officer's eyes widened, "What? Someone's onto us!" He turned his head to a guard posted by the door. "You there! Notify His Highness that someone is leeching off of our satellite's captured information!"
The guard saluted and ran off.
Jeff Kyle worked alongside other scientists. Around them were numerous Gurian Commanos. Jeff felt quite safe.
Odd, he thought. Jeff had noticed a strange alloy. Jeff began cross-checking on where to acquire those alloys...
* * *
After a few hours, and numerous leads, Jeff cried out, "Eureka!" He had tracked it down. Scythirus was the one responsible...it was Scythirus. A message was sent immediately to Dictator Anderson...
At that moment, just when Jeff was about to radio a message to the dictator, Ahkmed Ackbar raised his weapon at Jeff and shot the receiver from his hand. "Not so fast! Nothing is going to leave this room, understand?"
Ahkmed was the planted spy from Scythirus and was determined to keep secret the satellite's origin. Before the other commandos could take action, he held up an object that was wired into his uniform and he continued on with his speech: "Underneath my uniform is wired a bomb set to go off by one simple push of this detonator. Any action to alert the outside is death. Now give me the fragments from the satellite, and I'll think of sparing your lives."
OOC: How did you get a bomb in? Considering this is a HIGH security establishment.
Jeff was about to send the message. His finger was over the button.
"Alright, alright," Jeff said as he moved away from the control panel. However alarm klaxons began going off and thick metal doors sealed.
"The base is under lockdown," one of the commados said. There was no getting in or out. The numerous surveillance devices planted nearly everywhere meant that the information wasn't safe. All that everyone had said or done had been recorded.
"Let's play your game then," Jeff said, taking a seat.
Gurian Elite Forces Alpha Squad was already en route to the position. What were Gurian Elite Forces? And what was Alpha Squad? The Gurian Elite Forces were the top 100 men in all of Gurian's armed services. Millions of dollars were spent on EACH of their training. These guys were the best of the best. Gurian Elite Forces were divided into 4 teams: Alpha Squad with 10 people, Beta Squad with 20 people, Charlie Squad with 30 people, and Delta Squad with 40 people. Alpha Squad was the best of the Gurian Elite Forces.
Alpha Squad was nearing the insertion point. They were ready.
OOC: This level of eliteness should be expected. I spend so much money on my army that it is of the skill level of other nation's Spec Ops. It is smaller, only 1 million people, but VERY skilled. The Commandos are the good guys of the normal army, and Gurian Elite Forces are the best of these guys. I'm talking best of the best that you can't match. I actually spend $9,000,000 a piece on their training.
22-09-2003, 04:20
OOC: You'd be surprised how and what can be snuck into secure places, especially when your sporting the uniform of one of their own. Distractions, unassembled parts maybe, false orders/documents, etc.
Ahkmed sneered at the scientist and the goons. These Westerners and their tricky ways. Sweat beaded down his brow. There had to be a better way to succeed, but there was no other option. He must give his life for his country and hope that the secret will be tied up.
Quietly he spoke a strange prayer that didn't resemble anything from Islam—he was obviously Persian. With a deep breath, he pressed the trigger on his detonator and set off the bomb, the blast strong enough to set off a medium section of the base.
22-09-2003, 04:28
The blast took the room. The reinforced metal doors prevented it from doing any more damage. A total of five commandos perished along with Jeff Kyle.
In the security office, they sent their complete report to Dictator Anderson along with a log of all video and communications actions.
* * *
"WHAT!?" Dictator Anderson cried out. Those scumbags from Scythirus...they DARE insert a spy in Gurian? Dictator Anderson did not have a problem with a spy satellite going over Gurian, it was merely an annoyance. But to actually insert a spy and kill Gurian Commandos?
Dictator Anderson grinned quite evilly, which was quite different from his normal reaction. Scythirus was going to pay for what they did...they were going to pay dearly. Scythirus would be down on its knees and begging for mercy by the end of this! They thought they could send a spy to Gurian and blow up Gurian scientists and commandos?
Dictator Anderson ordered all security measures to be tightened. Entering a high security base would require a strip search. Multiple dependecies were added: One person could not be depended upon. Thorough spy-checks were run. Gurian was going to be SAFE!
OOC: I'm going to create a new thread for the Gurian-Scythirus conflict.
