He was a haggard young man in his late thirties, stuffed into a quality suit that seemed out of character for him. Nicholas Everdale, the President of Reformed Alcardia after the death of former President Arden James Rana and the great Civil War that split the United Alcardian States to bits. Sweat dotted his brow as he approached the microphone to deliver the first State of Reformed Alcardia Address.
--
"Ladies and gentlemen, friends of Reformed Alcardia and the Reformed Alcardian States," he said, eyes not even glancing at the teleprompter. The speech had been imprinted in his mind since Rana collapsed of a stroke. "I come to you to say that our small nation, our small region, is mighty. It is mighty despite its size, for we more than make up for the lack of nations in pure will power. Some of the former Empire of Alcardia's greatest enemies have joined hands with Reformed Alcardia to create a new region, a proper region, The Reformed Alcardian States."
He continued, "It is my sincerest hope that President Gordon Grath of Kelanthia, once the strongest enemy of Alcardia, will join the Reformed Alcardian States and strengthen us with his outstanding Kelanthian Arms Conglomerate. It is our collective hope as a region that all nations can survive in peace. This speech comes on the eve of Reformed Alcardia's acceptance into the United Nations, an establishment that removed The Empire of Alcardia for its dictatorial ways. This is the beginning, my friends."
"The hopes for the Reformed Alcardian States are in the stratosphere as we stand less than twenty years from a new century, the great year 1500. We hope, I hope, that the Reformed Alcardian States will be a power in this world within the next twenty years, and that we will accomplish things that Arden Rana never could. The wars Rana fought for his own interests are scars of the past that we must move away from. We must move towards peace, justice, free election, popular majority rule, and all of those things which make a republic so grand."
"Ladies and gentlemen," he said, a smile on his face. He had made it through without passing out. "Our nation, our region, our world...it is stronger than ever before. We will survive reformation and recreation. We will survive the outbreaks of mutiny from old Rana supporters. The days of the Alcardian Revolutionary Party are over! As I speak the Reformed Alcardians are drafting a Constitution to support ALL people and not just RICH men as Arden had done! We will change this world for the best! It is our duty as men!"
