Advanced Magnetics

12-09-2003, 12:49
In order to keep up with the times, The Nation's Capital, Schnieder, has decided to commence research on Advanced magnetics. This means, quieter weaponry, and lots of power behind each shot. Our first idea will be to build a stealth ops rifle, similar to our recently failed APOR45, but with higher firing power, NO recoil (This is magnetics, remember?), and no bulky c02 tanks, only a 12v battery to carry in the backpack, and an electricity amplifier.

Though, we will need some funding to start researching this technological advancement. Donations of one million USD each will be sufficient to get you on our wall of fame, and 5 free samples of each type of our weaponry.

This may sound like a railgun, but it's not. It wouldn't charge the shot at all, nor does the bullet get damaged when fired, as it's a solid titanium "pellet".

Thank you! Always working to please.

We have entered a weak magnetics stage right now, where we can fire a small steel pellet 2 feet.

The Government of Argheraal donates 5,000,000.00 for the research.
Also, if wanted, offers the use of its arms manufacturing facilities and test ranges to produce and test the new weapons.

Aori's military advisors note that the technology has existed for the island since the few first years of the country.

ooc: Just because you use magnetics doesn't mean there won't be any recoil. You're projecting an object with relatively large amount of force, and no matter what force you use, there will be recoil. Instead of burning powder you're just using an intense and opposite magnetic field [i'm assuming].

[ooc: Why would it be quiet? If the projectile exceeds the speed of sound you get a sonic boom.

And yes, recoil would be nasty.]

Its the same with a muzzle supressor on a regular weapon it is much quiter when it is fired making it harder to track the source the sonic boom is not as loud as you might think. and i dont think it would have ANY recoil if it weresimmilar to the maglev type of system where the magnetic field is applied one section at a time in rapid succesion along the tube "carrying" the projectile along.

"Silencers" make the bullet come out a lot slower and with a lot less power. That's why they're not used in regular combat.

[ooc: Silencers are also a misnomer. It's not silent at all - just rather softer. From about 100+ decibels to 50 odd decibels, I think.

And the projectile's sonic boom is still noise. That's why some weapons fire subsonic projectiles.]

That's why I added the quotes, I know it doesn't actually make the gun silent.

*slaps SmartSpace with a physics book*

Newton's third law, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

If you throw something one way, you are pushed the other way.

If a rocket's burning fuel goes one way, the rocket goes the other.

If you fire a bullet one way, the gun (and you) gets pushed the other. It does not matter how you propel the bullet.

The pellet would get damaged, since titanium is extremely malleable.

"Silencers" make the bullet come out a lot slower and with a lot less power. That's why they're not used in regular combat. Its a suppressor, your choice of words especialy "a lot slower" and "a lot less power" leads me to belive you are talking out of you ass.
