The news arrived just in time for The Standard's early edition, and fittingly covered the front page- Calarca was with us!

The king, something of a recluse in recent years, sent a telegram to his Calarcan opposite, half the world away, praising him and his people for their good and brave character.

In the War Rooms of Great Walmington the military big-wigs pondered on. Will this message of solidarity be enough to discourage the unsettled Asian powers from pursuing their hostile ambitions, or will it look to them like further cause?

As The Standard read; the world truly is at war.

((Right. If anyone doubts where my allegiances lie... I'd advise them to look at my flag and motto))

[The sound of the Dad's Army theme song plays]

"Heil!" A man walks out and salutes Dur Fuehrer Kessel. "Calarca has declared war on Der Kriegsmarine!"

"Then we must do the opposite!"

Who do you think you are givin' Mr.Kessel?

No, seriously, this is all 1930s/40s tech, and I don't think there's any vampires, ghouls, or such involved. In fact, as the title says, it's sort of an established RP already, many threads long.

(sorry to ramble on; I'm not having another Dra-pol's-1st-thread/earlier-confused-WWII-alikes! [shakes fist])

((As I said earlier, first chance I get IO would jump in... actually, I have a puppet, so I'll switch. Give me 5 seconds. Also, I don't do vampires anymore.))

On second thought...

IC: Far away, in the depths of Wabia, the emperor bows to his councillors. "We will help the germans crush them."

((And now I'm the japanese))

(Oh hey look, no disorder at all! It's good to see some nice build up and characterisation! Hey Iansisle, y'know how I said even those CCMkII would out-do anything Japan has?..)

((This will be fun.))

"Now, go! Conquer IndoChina!"

"Emperor, we already have..."

"Don't argue with me! Do it!"

(do you even know who owns Indo-China...

Or why we call it Galla-China instead of Indo-China?

 )

EDIT: A real response coming soon, as well as a sketch of our PM canidates ;)

(Nice :) I've been watching the Effit dealy, though I think I'm a bit behind now. One of these days I'll get around to properly understanding more of my characters than poor old Mainwaring, and get into some of those threads. But for now, tea, biscuits, and voucher-fuled music-buying [scampers])

"Now, go! Conquer IndoChina!"

"Emperor, we already have..."

"Don't argue with me! Do it!"

This is part of a morass of 6 or 7 interlinked threads going back a RL month, or at least a Rl fortnight and a bit. Before you jump in, Have you read:
the "Sinking of the Liberty" thread,
the Tea with Walmington on Sea" thread,
the "Queen Jessica sets out" thread,
the "Naval Review" thread,
the "Me262 announced" thread,
the "Election in Iansisle" thread,
and a few more, Plus the old one which introduced the history of india and our Wos, Iansisle, Agriento/Ercolana, Calarca and others colonies in what in RL is Indochaina, the "Scramble for Gallaga, 1750's" thread.

Until you have read all those we'll haveto be rather chary of your knowledge of what exactly is happening.

As given in the title, this is an ESTABLISHED RP. and not the place to jump in blindly where angels fear to tread.

Actually, I have read them. And I know what happened in Indochina. It's just that my Japanese are the general equivalent of WOS's. Not quite together.

Some war going on elsewhere, I note. No patience with the Dra-pol thread either- chemical and bio weapons pointed at every nation in the thread within a page of arriving :(

Eh, sorry, I'm a bit low on ideas so complaining has a powerful pull, heh.
Ahem..

Following Calarca's announcement, Walmingtonian naval, technical, and engineering experts have been dispatched via imperial bases to survey naval construction enterprises in that nation.

(Re.the corvettes, of course. Just thought I'd best add something IC to get back on track.)

Right then, I'll enjoy seeing you blundering through Chiang Mai and Hainan on the (indo-china) mainland, and Iansisle and Me on the water. talk about two fronts...

Emperors can be a bit out of it. Calarcas lucky here, it's a monarchy, and within direct line, but it doesn't need to be the eldest son, only the best son, so we have a bit more latitude with our rulers. and they brush up as princes to be best for the role, far more efficient.

Poor old King Godfrey III has very little influence over WoS politics anymore. It was thought that the best way to save the monarchy was to ensure that it couldn't annoy anybody directly.

Hmm... revolution and disaster at home while in a war on two fronts??? Might be a nice chance for a bit more colonial land coming up here.....

We're Feudalistic, the merchants and shop owners rent their factories land and shops from the nobles, who hold it as fiefs from the higher nobles who hold it as fiefs from the king. the king owns all the land in Calarca. No freeholding here.

(Curses, [name of long dead Walmingtionian visionary here] knew we should have sought more Asian holdings beside merely Ceyloba! We'll be crowded right out of the market here. Ah well, I suppose it gives me more struggles to get through when the war's over and the empire weakened...presumably)

Ah, interesting, Cal. Sometimes I wonder if WoS shouldn't be more pro-monarchy, but, too late now!
11-09-2003, 10:17
Poor old King Godfrey III has very little influence over WoS politics anymore. It was thought that the best way to save the monarchy was to ensure that it couldn't annoy anybody directly.

We decided that the best way was to keep the King as Commander in Cheif of the army so anyone annoyed directly has to get through lots of armed men to express it. not very healthy, and with the dukes, Barons, earls etc having a healthy sense of independance and more sense to go out and get slaughtered where it won't do any good, there are enough balances in our society.

Besides we are nowhere close to other nations so we had no wars etc like france, germany, britain did that weakened the nobles expenditary forces but kept the kings home guard strong while young countries, which made for the collapse of the feudal checks and balances and the rise of absolute monarchs.

Unlike Henry, if one of our monarchs tried divorcing more than one wife by the ax, he'd go under the ax and the best son chosen as replacement. And not the greedy bloated one like the prince of wales in the early napoleonic wars either, it would have been the aescetic (relatively) Duke of York who would have been chosen in Calarca. Also appropriate since England was in a war at the time and needed a soldier leader, not a bloated pimp.

Mh, good point about you being somewhat isolated. A different world, I suppose! Walmington's machinery probably felt somewhat at threat with the French revolution on one side, American on the other, and with rolling-regal-heads in England.
..No body cares what the Australians are doing.
