Less than an hour ago, the kingdom of Tol- Barad was forced to close his shop of slaves and exotic pets. Although the pets still produce a lot of money, the slaves were the real jackpot. The slaves that he/she sold were completely made up races such as Elves, Dwarves, Orcs and Goblins, yet he/she was still told to shut the shop or the nations (such as Pantera) said "War was iminante". The laws of Tol-Barad allow slavery, so why are people critisising the nations rules and regulations? Not to mention the races were made up. Please voice your opinions. Should countries be allowed to sell slaves if they wish? Or should other countries and nations make that decision for them. Speak now! Your opinion is respected and valued!

For some reason, even though owning slaves doesn't raise any eyebrows, buying and selling them does cause objections.

However, most people on the boards are fairly easily tricked out of going to war if you are careful.

Well, I think that slavery should be completely illegal in the real world. If you want to RP a country with legal slavery, you should be prepared to be attacked by anti-slavery countries.

Lots of nations on NationsStates own slaves and no one cares. But try to buy or sell one and people freak out. Don't ask me why. I assume it has something to do with public school curricula in the US.

Not true at all. At several points I have heard anti-slavers specifically say they don't care whether nation X owns slaves, but if nation Y buys them from nation X (even to set them free) that is some sort of moral catastrophe and demands a war.

Maybe they thing that the transport of slaves is barbaric, even more so than the conditions in which they are kept. Or maybe they think that it becomes an international issue rather than an internal one once the trade takes place.

Can't explain the "to set them free" part. Maybe if you provided a link...

If you want to RP a slave trade, there is no question about it, you can. But the best place in which to do it is in the proper RP forums. You could discuss real-world slavery here, but this is not really the place to discuss RP slavery.

While Kahta does not practice or approve of slavery, we do allow the employment of prisoners at the prisons or nearby places. Only criminals that are serving time for non-vioent or "minor" vilations of the law are allowed to work at those places. The wages are based on the type of job, and the jobs are selected based on the crime they commited.

We also give all convicts full military training, and they are placed in reserve status. If given a conviction for violence such as murder, or any similar offense, than a convict can be given the option to serve in the military in a unit for violent offenders.

I would just like to say that anyone thinking of declaring war on Nerzul should think again. I was merely asking peoples opinions on the matter of slavery on NationStates and I see no justification or excuse for war. You are both warmongers looking for an excuse to fight. If voicing my opinion is wrong and asking others for theirs, then I am as guilty as charged. However, you have no decent reason to attack me and until I get one, the debate will continue.

Funny considering most of my defenses for space ships is nuclear and if any ships try to gain entrance to the Core of my Nation without proper access it will go nuclear and destroy all life on earth (Theoretically. The most its eva destroyed was an entire space research facility and a small planet)

Of course not to be thwarted, I do have my own little stunt that I can pull. I will begin biological "spraying", as I release various virii into over your skies. You can blow up the capsule, but it will be a little tougher to take out all those pathogens. Each nation has the right to govern themselves as they wish. Other nations do not have the right to impose their beliefs on slave-holding countries. If a slave nation was attacked by a non-slave nation just for that specific purpose, I would defend the slave nation. Even though slavery is obviously evli, we should destroy it by diplomatic means, not through war.

OOC: The fact that the slaves are 'made-up' raves meangts exactly shit, because InCharacter, we all seem to aknowledge they exist, so I'll ignore that part. Second, hold all the slaves you want. Have sex with them, feed them, starve them, burn them, dress them in chicken suits, WHATEVER. The problem we have incharacter, is the fact that you flaunt them. If you plan to run in the slave-trade, InCharacter, find ways to smuggle them. This will make for more interesting RP, and thus improve the world we're trying to create here. Jut don't let Pantera see, because as they view things, even the thought of owning another sentient being is outrageous. You could always tell us to bugger ourselves though, and test our resolve. Melkor did, look how well things turned out there, and all because the Reavers tried to free a bunch of elven slaves they don't really care about anyway.
