Mushroomius has entered the realm of interstellar-capable nations of the stars. Using the recently built shuttle Canopus, the Incorporated States of Mushroomius space shuttle left Earth orbit with the NEIR drive fully installed, at precisely 0716 hours, and returned in a paltry 8 minutes at 0724 hours.
The experiment was confirmed as a success when Mushroomius's military orbital radar picked up the shuttle, but telescopes could not yet visually confirm the location of the shuttle. It was three seconds after radar confirmation that ground-based telescopes could visually acquire the shuttle.
While ICSM engineers to do not hope to send shuttles to Alpha Centuari at a mere 2c, it does show that the technology to pierce the light barrier has been acquired by Mushroomiun space vessels. Newer and faster drive units are on the drawing boards in the ICSM Space Administration Department of Advanced Propulsion Physics.
The shuttles employed in the Mushroomius space fleet are made of titanium with carbon buckytube support skeletons. This ensured the survival of the ship and crew during their duration in a superluminal state.
