Revolution under threat in The Commonwealth!

(ooc:Since this is a long post, let me give you the basics first- Socialist nation founded a region long ago, now it stands alone in a sea of capitalists, monarchists, and theists, who threaten the last survivors of the revolution. Beddgelert realises it has to allow the economy to falter in order to finish off capitalism, but can't afford to do that while threatened. Basically we need some more socialists in the region! Don't worry, it's not a region crashing by capitalists- it's IC tension.

The region's small, fairly quiet until recently, but has a map. So..eh, there you go.)

Some of you may be to one degree or another familiar with Beddgelert/Beth Gellert, others not.

The nation, lying as it does in the Indian Ocean, in the region of New Tiamat, was founded centuries ago by British socialist visionaries, during an age when most of the world was claimed for the crown.

Over time, New Tiamat became a strong-hold of the revolution- until the war.

Many Beth Gellens returned to Europe (ie.Beth Gellert moved to Eastern Europe, and Beddgelert was born from those who stayed in New Tiamat) and those left were abandoned to the whims of self proclaimed Prince Llewellyn.

He was driven out in a new socialist revolution, retreating to the islands of Victoria and Salvador. War between the socialists and the monarchists continued, Beddgelert standing alone against V&S, near-by Haverton, and distant Iansisle. The war was brief- V&S's airforce was crippled, the task force sent by Iansisle suffered at the hands of superior Beddgelen technology, and Haverton put forth feelers for peace.

Now Beddgelert's few allies in the region have collapsed or departed, and more capitalists, Christians, and others opposed to the ideals of the revolution have moved in. Some of them offer their forces as mercenaries to the others, who seek to claim the region's islands for their own.

The revolution can not afford to finish capitalism in Beddgelert without socialist/communist support!

(OOC: What do you actually want? Money, weapons - or people to move in to the region..?)

(Hmm...not sure what my IC response would be quite yet, but I'm marking this as a future possibility.)

ooc:ah, well.. I suppose it's a regional recruitment effort aimed at socialists.

I'm not looking to drag people away from their regions to help out, just..y'know, if there's socialists out there looking for somewhere to settle, and a good cause to assist.. New Tiamat welcomes you!

Oh, I think we're all at least close to modern tech in New Tiamat, I know Beddgelert is. Not that it stopped us cruise-missiling Iansislian coal-fired vessels, but that was under the old post-monarchist Stalinist dictatorship. I should point out that the more moderate socialists ousted him (Sopworth Igo), and released POWs held in secret since the war.

(Don't worry about it - between a massive war that's brewing among us 1940s era powers (heh, I have radar now! - and aircraft carriers! :)), I don't think Iansisle will be getting involved, even in a financial role. We might exchange a verbal blow or two, but the Battle of Salvador (as I've taken to calling it) is a massive psychological scar on Iansisle. Ianapalis also recognized the change in government - after all, you gave us Captain Jones back! Without him, who'd we have to command the good old HIMS Arabian Oryx?)

EDIT: Did I mention that one of those aircraft carriers was named HIMS Salvador?

Hey, whadday'know? We've finally got proper carriers too! At the time of the war, I think we were just bringing out our first helicopter carriers. Thankfully Western Asia offers some nice full deck types.

Nice to see Jones erm..Oryxing about. Heh.

Sort of good to see Beddgelert/Beth Gellert impacting the course of an in-depth nation's history, even if it was through a less than friendly means.

Of course Beddgelens are required to hate capitalist Iansisle, but given the end of our centralised figure-headed government, and the presistance of private enterprise, I can't help feeling at least a little uncomfortable about the prospect for anarchy. I mean, we just lost "father knows best" status. If I don't finish off the corporations, I can see them fracturing the government..and..I'm babbling.

Ahem. Come all ye socialists!
You know you want progressive allies who balance Superb civil rights with a Frightening economy! Allies that produces fine arms for strictly left-wing markets! Allies with place names like Porthmadog, and Waldberghoff-trarbk-dikdorff.. I..pff.

Maybe if you had actual political rights in your country, we Weegies would consider you as socialists.

Anyway we wouldn't leave our region, The Socialist International. Because we made it.

Oh but we (Beddgelert) do. Beddgelert is working towards being a carbon copy of Beth Gellert (which fluctuates between libertarian police state when military spending is high, and left leaning college state when we're able to cut back). Our political freedoms appear low because, as explained to those who read, we are not long out of the grasp of a Stalinist dictatorship, and before that a capitalist monarchy. You'll note we (in Beddgelert) still have private enterprise, too, which is hardly in keeping with our eventual communist aims.
