The Trial of the Jacerian Emperor, Verdauga the Cruel

31-08-2003, 21:54
What has passed before...

With the victory of the Democratic Forces in Jaceria and the end of the war between the nations of Jaceria and Freedom Country, the former Emperor of Jaceria, having been apprehended by Wolfish operatives from his Bastion in the Southern region of Jaceria, is being brought to trial for crimes against the people of Jaceria and of Freedom Country. Freedom Country Lawyers have been dispatched to aid in the almost certain prosecution of the former tyrant. Acting President of the Ruling Council Kymil Talax will preside over the case.

All who were involved in the Jacerian and Freedom Country War are invited to attend. No Dark Terror.

Verdauga: I plead not guilty to these charges, for this court is filled with liars and deceivers. I ask you, the people of Jaceria, is the ending of this trial already decided? Here they sit, these usurpers who claim to follow the virtues of democracy when in fact they already have reached their verdict before the trial has begun. Who was it that raided your lands and homes under the cover of darkness? (Kymil bangs gaval) Who was it that caused this further war and strife upon the people of Jaceria?(gaval bangs again)
Kymil: That is enough out of the defendant. A simple guilty or not guilty is sufficient. We will recess for now.

Speeding things along then...Verdauga is formally stripped of his title of Emperor and crown and vestments of office are melted down and forged into shackles which he will wear for the rest of his life. In the darkness of his own dungeons he will dwell for the rest of his days...

Our top lawyers have been sent to prosecute him.

And 100 elite commandoes to guard the proceedings.

We thank Freedom Country for their concern and would like after the trial and the restoration of the Republic to sign the official peace treaty between our two nations.

While Pantocratoria was in no way involved in this struggle, we are deeply concerned that an Emperor is being brought to trial. An Emperor is only answerable for his crimes to God - his people have no right to bring charges against him. If Jaceria would like to exile their former Emperor, he would be welcome in the Holy Empire of Pantocratoria. We believe that exile would be more appropriate than holding an Emperor answerable for his actions as sovereign. Nevertheless, we pledge our friendship to the democratic government of Jaceria, and hope that it can resolve this issue promptly.

Verdauga as Emperor cared nothing of the will of God and scorned all of those who did not abandon their religions. His government strictly enforced a policy of atheism and those who held onto their religios practices were never heard of again. He experiemented with cloning and thereby violated the sanctity of the human soul. He also usurped the government and brought about the ruin of the First Republic, which was founded by High King Magnus of Old and has ruled our nation for hundreds of years. We hold firm to our verdict that Verdauga shall be imprisoned in his own dungeons and his crown be forged into the shackles that will bind him for the rest of his days. He has violated the wishes of King Magnus - the last sovreign of ancient Jaceria and therefore he is answerable to those that Magnus vested the powers of government to.
We hope you will consider this evidence for Verdauga is far too dangerous to let loose. His heart is cold and his words are poison and we fear only evil will come about if he is to go into exile. We hope that you understand the danger in this.

We understand that your former Emperor has committed heinous crimes and must be held accountable for them, and yet we fear for our successors to our Crown Imperial, for they may not enjoy the immunity of the imperial purple which their predecessors enjoyed if the precedent is set of a nation's people placing an Emperor on trial.

However, this immunity does not extend to usurpers of imperial authority, of which your former is one, since the authority in Jaceria was once held by the High King Magnus of Old. We thankyou for correct our ignorance in the matter, and withdraw our objections to you trying your former usurper-emperor, for the immunity from prosecution enjoyed by emperors does not extend to treacherous usurpers. Further, the doctors of our laws who have advised us in this matter would be available to testify as to this ineligibility should Verdauga attempt to use the imperial right to prosecutorial immunity as a defence in his trial.

We pledge our friendship to your President Kymil Talax and to all others who would bring to justice usurpers of princely authority.

We are glad that you have come to understand our situation and we respect your overall concern for what is going on in our nation. We will gladly accept the doctors of Pantocratorian law to testify against the one whom we will not mention. In a few days time we will hold an official ceremony to celebrate the Restoration of the Republic and the installation of Kymil Talax as Consul of Jaceria and we would be honored if you would attend.

I, personally, Robert Muir, will attend, and have scheduled a flyover of 3 MA-10 fighters.

His Imperial Highness is most welcome to attend and our Justices and top legal scholars will coordinate their efforts with yours.

The trial is proceeding as scheduled and so far no one has attempted to defend Verdauga and it looks like a foregone conclusion that he will be convicted.

The prosecution is planning on having Cirdanistan's military personel take the stand in the days to come. Afterwards Freedom Country's witnesses will follow along with Pantocratoria's legal doctors and scholars.
