BG revised arms exports - leftist market still sought (pics)

Beddgelert
21-06-2003, 04:54
Previously this thread was run by the USS Beddgelert under Premier Igo. Since the restoration of The Commonwealth, it has been relatively inactive.

Now however, it has been sorted out, and The people's socialist Commonwealth of Beth Gellert continues to seek a left wing market, as Igo did, but may be more accepting.

If you consider any of it a godmod, too modest, or otherwise incorrect, feel free to comment- I'm not exactly a heavy arms dealer IRL :)

Ground systems

CICV-2 Type A
(Commonwealth Infantry Combat Vehicle) BG variant of the Soviet/Russian BMP line.

http://groups.msn.com/NSRalishohan/armaments.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=11
US$800,000 per unit.

CICV-2 Type B
Light tank version of the previous vehicle.

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-9/394362/CICVTypeB.jpg
US$1million per unit.

MT-2
The standard Main Battle Tank of The Commonwealth.

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-9/394362/MT-2MBT.jpg
US$4.1million per unit.

Aircraft

Marathon Heavy Transport Aircraft
Lends itself to adaptation for both tanker and gunship roles.

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-9/394362/NewTiamatMK1HeavyProp.TransportAircraft.jpg
US$32million per unit- (comments on that price are especially sought)

Preston Light Prop. Tansport Aircraft
Used variously for diplomatic missions, special forces insertion, light cargo runs around the nation and region, and recently as a naval observation aircraft -though I've not looked into relevent naval equipment yet, sorry- hey, feel free to fit your own.

http://groups.msn.com/NSRalishohan/armaments.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=14
US$1.2million per unit.

NT1FB Springer Strike/Attack Fighter
This aircraft's early development was a joint Beth Gellert-Christmas Day project, and the first examples recently went into combat in the war with the Victoria and Salvador-Iansisle-Haverton coalition.

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-9/394362/NewTiamatFighter-BomberPrototyped.jpg
US$38million per unit.

Puffin STOVL Strike Fighter
An on-again-off-again project for several years, as political turmoil in BG caused delays. Now the standard naval fighter in The Commonwealth.

http://groups.msn.com/NSRalishohan/armaments.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=25
US$29million per unit.

NT4ASF Hobgoblin Air Superiority Fighter
Commonly known as either the NT4 or Hobgoblin. Derived from work on the two prior fighter projects, along with observations of Mig-29, Su-37, Su-47, and F-16.
Capable of engaging multiple targets, even with AAELRS long-range missiles. In short it has the potential to take out an entire squadron of enemy fighters before they even get close enough to engage.
A very expensive project surpassed in cost only by the Liopleurodon ferox missile submarine programme.

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-9/394362/NT4-ASF.jpg
US$42million per unit.

NT3HB Spearman Heavy Bomber
Intercontinental nuclear-arms-capable supersonic bomber presenting a reduced radar cross-section -though it can not fully be considered a stealth aircraft.

http://groups.msn.com/NSRalishohan/armaments.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=38
US$100million per unit.

Naval Systems

I'm really uncertain about submarine prices at the moment- do comment if you're more..in the know.

Sentinel Submarine 2- Hound Class D/E Hunter/Coastal Patrol
In extensive service with Beth Gellert; it's said that a ship can't pass through New Tiamatian waters without one of these boats shadowing her.

http://groups.msn.com/NSRalishohan/armaments.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=12
US$95million. Note-the 485mm torp. tubes on BG's early models have been replaced by 517mm tubes.

Sentinel Submarine 3- Anunkai Class Nuclear Powered Hunter
These have seen active service all around the globe.

http://groups.msn.com/NSRalishohan/armaments.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=16
US$550million. Note-the 485mm torp. tubes on BG's early models have been replaced by 517mm tubes.

Sentinel Submarine 4- Liopleurodon ferox Class Nuclear Powered Missile Submarine
A monster of a vessel, larger than many old battleships, and capable of bringing massive firepower against enemies of the people anywhere on earth.

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-9/394362/SentinelProject4Liopleurodonferox.jpg
US$1.1bln.

Helicopter Carrier Assault Ship Nibiru Class
Helicopter carrier, VSTOL aircraft capapble carrier and assault ship in one vessel. Used in the liberation of the Parmis archipelago from the former Nicobar Islands, and now a fixture in all major BG task forces.

http://groups.msn.com/NSRalishohan/armaments.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=27
US$425million.

Frigates-
These frigates are by no means "stealth ships", but many components are designed to present reduced radar signals. It is hoped to make them slightly harder to precisesly target with some weapons, and to make them appear to be smaller, and potentially less threatening on radar- perhaps even to be detected later than older vessels might have been.

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-9/394362/ERRHFrigateBodkin.jpg
A Bodkin frigate.

Experimental Radar Reduced Defender Frigate Gauntlet Class
Keeping the skies clear of threats as the fleet sails the oceans.

http://groups.msn.com/NSRalishohan/armaments.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=20
US$195million.

Experimental Radar Reduced Bombardment Frigate Trebuchet Class
An affordable means of breaking an enemy before coming ashore.

http://groups.msn.com/NSRalishohan/armaments.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=22
$US200million.

Experimental Radar Reduced Hunter Frigate Bodkin Class
Ship to ship warfare isn't quite done yet- in the event that air-power and sub-surface vessels aren't available to engage the enemy fleet, the Bodkin stands ready.

http://groups.msn.com/NSRalishohan/armaments.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=28
$US198million.

Munitions

Although all items are provided fully armed, we of course supply replacement munitions.

Anti-Aircraft Missiles-
AAELRS- Air to Air Extreme Long Range System. Selling at US$550,000 per unit. Meant to launch before the capitalists' AMRAAM can engage.
Citadel Long Range Ship-Based SAM System. Selling at US$750,000 per missile.

http://groups.msn.com/NSRalishohan/armaments.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=29

Cruise Missile
Conventional high explosive or bomblet submunition warheads- nuclear arms not available for export.

http://groups.msn.com/NSRalishohan/armaments.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=32

US$950,000 per unit.

(Worth a bump, I hope.. if there's any really major problem along the "uh, we can't see anything there" lines, do tell, otherwise..buy comrades, buy!)
Knootoss
22-06-2003, 13:42
A representative from the Knootian ministry of Defence inquires:

We would like to buy from you, but we are probably not "revolutionary" enough to meet your requirements. :D Do you give small nation discounts?
Beddgelert
22-06-2003, 13:55
"Hmm.."

"They seem progressive, Premier, I.."

"..The government does not oppress the people- it leaves room for private enterprise to infringe on the ideals of the revolution, and the rights of the masses!"

"But comrade Igo, private enterprise continues here in the Socia..."

"Do you think they will ever attempt to finish off that scourge as we seek to, comrade?"

"I.. perhaps not.. but comrade Igo, we need to start somewhere.."

The Premier quietly mulled over the situation.

"Perhaps.." he started "..strengthening the government would be beneficial in the face of such corporate sway. Signal Knootos that they may buy from us.. but that we can not commit to a discount, given the marginal nature of m.. our decision."

"Yes comrade." said Igo's attendant, before departing to arrange for delivery of said news.

ooc: usually Igo would not want to sell to nations with anything but the tinnnniest of private sectors, but given that I've not had opportunity since the revolution to remove my own private sector, I suppose that I have to give a little leway.
Beddgelert's ideal trade partner would be ..Mao's China at the co-operatives stage (before collectivism and the related great-leap disaster set in), and possibly Cuba just after the revolution. Being ..who he is, he'd sell to Stalin and Pol Pot as readily as to Minh or Allende.
Knootoss
22-06-2003, 14:33
At the Knootian ministry of Defence, a small celebration was goin on. What a wonderfull opportunity this was, buying actual Soviet military equipment.

The state secretary of Defence smiled: as soon as the equipment arrived we shall begin begin painting "SATO" all over those red stars they like so much. The minister had an even better idea: "let's just leave the stars in place. Shipping this equipment to New Jigoku can surely be confusing for our enemies, and it will reduce the chance of detection. The state secretary grinned, and then nodded.

THe minister continued: "Send out the order:

Dear Comrades,

We wish you well with your revolution and would like to order:
500 CICV-2 Type A á 800,000 dollars
500 CICV-2 Type B á 1 million dollars

We ask if you would like to recieve your rightfull payment in Euro's instead. surely you prefer it over using the evil imperialist American currency!

We greet you!

Knootoss ministry of Defence"
Beddgelert
22-06-2003, 14:45
Well, our currency is known as the Greyhound, but listing prices in that form would be confusing to the rest of the world to say the least. Euros will do fine, I should think.

$equivalent 900million is the total cost.

The goods will be shipped on convoys with frigate escort, and should arrive in full within two (RL) days (the first can be expected within the hour, RL).

The trade is conducted quite openly, but in light of recent experiences, the minister for Defence Systems Distribution is likely to push for the shipments to go through even in the face of objection by other nations (a reference to Beddgelert's pleas for Nankin, I believe, to restrict sales to an enemy of the revolution... and to the rejection of said pleas)
Knootoss
22-06-2003, 14:57
Knootoss will wire the money after each respective shipment has arrived. As we are a democratic nation, we cannot keep such huge expenditure a secret, but our government will hide the excact source of the goods.

Our government now considers this a done deal and will consider buying from you in the future
Beddgelert
22-06-2003, 21:56
Jolly good. Now the stage is set for others to follow on... other..hopefully more extreme left nations..

(tum tee tum tee tee..)

Okay.. Igo is still suspicious, and half expects your motto to switch back once he dispatches the arms, but there's too much money here for us to..I mean..er..you've tried too many times for us to keep turning you away. Hopefully your profile will begin to alter over time (and damn, when's the game going to let me outlaw capitalism?)

Bill-

200 Puffin fighters (giving you currently the largest force of Puffins on earth) = $5.8bln - I'll give you 5% off as is such a big order- $5.51bln.

100 Marathon aircraft- $3.8bln - reduced by 10% now that large scale production is finally called for- $3.42bln.

10 Hound subs- $950million.

3 Anunkai subs- $1.65bln.

2 Liopleurodon ferox subs-$2.2bln.

2 Trebuchet frigate-$400million.

2 Gauntlet frigate- $390million.

Total-$14.52 billion.

The goods will begin shipment. The Hound subs, 2 Anunkai subs, the frigates, 10 Marathon and 50 Puffin should arrive in the next few hours. The rest will be delievered through to-morrow, though the second Liopleurodon and the last 50 or so Marathon should arrive the day after.

Staff will be sent to instruct you in the machines' operation, and training to the first generation of crews will be provided freely.

Thank you for your considerable custom, and don't hesitate to order again, or to report any problems you encounter (though all the classes you've bought have already been combat tested, and we don't forsee many faults).

We at the Iansislean Ministry of War would like to attest to the effectiveness of these weapons systems. During the day-long Battle of Salvador, Beddgelertan arms destroyed five front-line warships - including the brand-new battleship King James I - and four merchant men. After the battle, raids upon Port Edward accounted for the scattering of the King's IV Rifles Division, which is still less than half-accounted for. Iansislean fire accounted for the destruction of two aircraft - a prop-driven torpedo plane struck by lucky .50 caliber fire, and a helicopter downed by the waterspout of an even luckier 12" shell hitting the ocean.

http://www.fourays.org/archives/ostfreisland.jpg
The King James I is hit by the third of five missiles that resulted in her destruction.

You seem to have placed the same order as Omz222?
Order's not confirmed yet- it seems to account for about 10% of your GDP, maybe more. Are you quite sure you want to do it? (I think you should RP some sort of consiquences- maybe public unrest? and certainly make sure you give defence priority on issues, even if it harms the nation. That's if you go through with such a large order)

We are interested in 2000 Type A and 3000 Type B CICV-2 vehicles.

We are also interested in 200 Marathon Heavy Transport Aircraft, and 100 Puffin STOVL Strike Fighters.

Add in 2 Nibiru Class Helicopter Carrier Assault Ships, and that should do it for now...

Do we meet the ideological requirements :? ?
Beddgelert
26-06-2003, 05:53
Well, ideally we'd be selling to ranks of far left nations with no private industry, no religion, stepped or total income tax.. but we can't even get rid of our own private industry, and all the leftists are either poor, already armed to the teeth, or fussy :?
So -until we make enough ideal sales to sustain the industry, we'll deal with marginal nations such as Mokoville- Igo makes a big deal of that nation's wealth-sensitive income tax rate when questioned in parliament.. then of the size of the order..then of the firing squad outside.

2000 CICV-2 Type A - $1.6bln.

3000 CICV-2 Type B - $3bln.

200 Marathon Heavy Transport Aircraft- $6.66bln. (I should alter the price really..damn memory)

100 Puffin STOVL Strike Fighters - $2.9bln.

2 Nibiru Class Helicopter Carrier Assault Ships - $850million.

With a discount due to the huge value of the order the total, unless I'm (as likely) mistaken is $14,299,500,000 - or $14.2995 bln.

I think this makes you the first export customer for the Nibiru (three of which saw service in the Beddgelert vs. Victoria and Salvador, Iansisle, Haverton war)

Thank you for your considerable custom, don't hestitate to ask questions or make further comments.

(whines) why must it be forever the capitalists seeking to buy from us? Is it only socialists who have the ability to hear Premier Igo's frequent speeches against selling to non-progressive states?

(sigh)

Sadly this could fund our heavy carrier project, and so we are going to accept New-Gondor this time, but pressure from the parliament has meant that Igo has agreed to sell fifteen rather than the full thirty units, and has insisted that they must not be used in aggression against socialist or communist nations for any reason short of ..genocide being carried out in their states, frankly.

If N-G still desires the reduced order, the price will be $8.25bln (I believe)

ooc:Crikey, I didn't think this would turn up again. I should really re-organise it. Needs some tidying up! Sorry about the delay!

ic: The Commonwealth Professional Civil Service was in trouble again in the Final Senate. Their bureaucratic proceedures had left a multi-million dollar contract on some secretary's desk for several days. Apparently at once stage in its life the IdP order was believed a joke, being as it was so long since anyone had come to BG for arms, or had ordered so much.

A communiqué was sent to IdP confirming The Commonwealth's intention to see out the order.

The first pair of the giant ferox submarines would sail on the morrow, and perhaps half the frigates would be on hand before the month was out. The rest would have to be laid down at once, and shipyards around The Commonwealth would be working over-time until the order was filled.

As a courtesy following the bureaucratic mix-ups BG-made SH-60 Seahawk helicopters would be given over for the frigates (one per ship) at no extra cost, if desired.

(ooc:If that seems like a great expense, it helps to realise that we're planning to adopt a new naval helicopter in the near future, as many Beth Gellens object to using American technology :) )

ooc:  I was beginning to wonder..but it's really my fault. I didn't bother to look at the date, I had actually found this thread because it was linked in another one that had archives of military stores. :)

ic:

The Defense Department finally received word of the order they made months ago on an array of ships. They had been somewhat worried that the order had not gotten through, and worried furthermore that the order had been thrown away due to the fact that Isla de Penguinata may not have been liberal enough to buy military equipment from Beddgelert.

We are in no way upset at the delay, just thankful that we finally got a reply on our order. We graciously thank you for your service, and we will kindly turn down the helicopters. Once again, thank you, and may your sales be good!

ooc:  I was beginning to wonder..but it's really my fault.

We would suggest the $550million Sentinel Submarine 3- Anunkai Class Nuclear Powered Hunter.

As well as Beth Gellen Mangonel cruise missiles, the Anunkai Class accepts Citadel SAMs. A secondary system is often mounted atop the conning tower on current production vessels, firing Stinger short range SAMs (BG is still working on its first domestic equivalent to the Stinger).

The Anunkai is of course still armed with 517mm torpedo tubes, from which BG modified (essentially copied and marginally re-sized, nothing revolutionary) Harpoon anti-ship missiles may be fired.

More than one Anunkai Class is currently in production, and so one of those intended for BG will be transfered to your nation should you accept the vessel. Completion will take an estimated two months.

The $550million we quite expect to be paid over an extended period of time, to be agreed upon by your government.

We hope an agreement will be reached.

Liopleuridon Sub? Have you seen Walking with Dinosaurs on BBC? Oh, and I guess stubborn commie won't back down in his socialist rhetoric. Interestingly, Haverton's favorite theme park is Commie Land, a propagandized, biased, and totally crooked view on communist life, with everything staged to make the imperialists the good guys and the commies the bad...

Okay, enough spam, I'm not interested, but if this stuff gets used against me, don't think I won't take it sitting down...

Well, the Puffin is our specialised carrier-based fighter, but I expect it would be possible to operate Hobgoblins from a large carrier. I do rather doubt your nation's ability to operate such a carrier, or so many front line interceptors..

Of course filling such a large order would take time, so perhaps your wealth would increase sufficiently by the time all aircraft were delievered.. however the Final Senate is not convinced that your nation is sufficiently progressive or able, and thus is hesitant to confirm a deal.

The Armed Republic of Alfeite would like to buy 7 Hound Class Diesel/Electric Submarines
Beth Gellert
20-10-2003, 18:06
Hound Class being under constant construction the state arsenals are well placed to provide seven boats quite quickly.

Four Hound Class currently under construction will be transfered to Alfeite upon completion next month.

Three more will at once enter production specifically for the purpose of this order's completion, and should be complete after six months.

The total cost of the contract will be $665 million equivalent.

-CC O.Paz.

(ooc:If anyone happens to know just how quickly it is really possible to produce D/E submarines.. or any others for that matter, given a decent history of such production and large, advanced yards, do tell. I expect six months is a bit of a rush-job, but most 'storefront' type threads seem to have infinite stockpiles of vessels and such lying about in perfect condition...)

The Commonwealth thanks Ra-Hoor for its decision. The Hound Class boats will be escorted to your waters presently.

The Anunkai Class vessel is laid down, and ought to be completed before year's end. The dry-dock will be open to officials from your nation should they wish to examine the submarine during its construction.

We are sure these vessels will serve well in the defence of your nation's waters.

The personal messenger silently enters the temple to find Wilhelm Picaco sitting in the Dragon asana. The smell of inscence permeates the air and low chanting can be discerned from the speakers built into the walls. The lights are dim so as not to disturb the meditation of the Order's head.

"Most Holy Liaison of the Gods, I have news of a rumour."

Responding using the minimum of movement: "I am listening brother."

"There are those who say we are mobilizing our forces toward war. That this will bring the glory of battle to the Theocracy."

Still not moving from his stone like position: "The great Sun Tzu once said: 'to fight and conquer in all your battles is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence consists in breaking the enemy's resistance without fighting.' We are better to leave the glory of battle to those of less subtlety and skill. However, the pain of defeat is even less a virtue. The world is not safe for those who would bear their bellies and pray for compassion. We must be silent and strong. In the bonds of the Order."

"In the bonds of the Order."

The messenger turns and leaves the temple as silently as he entered.

As luck would have it, comrades, you have come at a good time. With what threatened to become a major war threatening our interests over-seas now perhaps heading towards a peaceful end, The Commonwealth has a number of assault ships laid down but likely not to be needed in the short term.

The Nibiru typically operates in Commonwealth service with 450 Commonwealth Marines, and four Infantry Combat Vehicles ready to disembark, as well as either fourteen helicopters, or six STOVL fighters and eight helicopters.

These are operation-ready, however, and in transport only mode it is assumed that probably rather more than two dozen helicopters (depending on the aircraft themselves) could be carried.

Further, should you wish to use any of the Niburu as purely helicopter platforms, at the expense of their provision for landing craft and assault teams, the conversion could be carried out at no noticible extra cost (as construction is not too far along). We expect that 18-20 helicopters could then be operational from one vessel.

We await your reply.

Ivan Sergeivich Ivanov
Minister for Defence

We are pleased to co-operate with such a major force in the progressive world, and glad to help secure your people's defence.

CICV-2 Type B are under fairly high-rate production already, and shipments will begin at once. You should expect constant maritime traffic from The Commonwealth over the coming months as these vehicles are delivered.

To be honest, I at least am glad of your request for conversion of the Hobgoblin and Springer aircraft to Russian munitions- there has long been a lobby for such a change, as the original decisions were made for convenience's sake in the dark days of the infant BG economy. It shall be done, with the likes of AIM-9 and AIM-120 replaced with their closest modern Russian equivalents. Beth Gellen munitions capability shall remain.

The Spearman programme has long been plagued by budget problems arising from the uncertainty of our need for such an aircraft, hence its wildly fluctuating price. This order may be slow in completion- though we hope to make limited initial deliveries within a matter of a couple of months at most, the bulk of the order -going into production presently- may be completed by rather late next year (ooc:obviously I don't mean RL time ;) )

The AAELRS are to begin immediate shipment in the same convoys as transport the CICVs.

Frigates will be laid on for the escort of these substantial convoys.

Many thanks,
-comrade Commonwealth Consul N.Kezo.

The Final Senate, through Commonwealth Chief Consul comrade Chivo, reaffirms The People's Commonwealth's preference for exporting arms only to commited socialist or communist organisations.

However, the Final Senate also agreed that they liked Estolad's flag, and that with thousands of MT-2 lying around without purpose since the introduction of the MT-3, it made sense to grab what offers came in.

Export of the MT-2s would begin at once, and steady deliveries would be made over the next four months until the order was completed.
