The problem: Inconsistent and plain unfair decisions

The response: "Well, find us a way for us to tell empirically if a decision is wrong." Inherently impossible, it relies on honest and good judgement.

The point, missed: No new procedures are needed, just for the mods to admit their errors and not fall into line behind whoever fucked up, defending them past the point of ridiculousness.

The very direction the mods tried to take, directing it down the avenue of procedural reform, and away from looking at their collective attitude towards criticism, ruled out anything useful coming from the thread.

I'm just stubborn and obsessive enough that whenever they present us once more with the Great Brick Wall of Listening, I proceed to bang my head against it despite the futility :p

Problem with the moderators:

1) Lock happy as all hell. Any discussion that gets spammed gets locked, instead of as the old days simply deleting the spam.
2) Inconsistent rulings. I got spanked for trolling for making an ignorant comment. I'll admit I didn't know what the hell I was talking about, but it wasn't trolling. You-Gi-Owe Parthenon et al. post regularly for weeks trolling and Melkior's response is thus "Lol liberals do it all the time!".

All the bitching on that thread generated too few lulz. Neesika saying she was Hiddenrun would probably have been more interesting if Hiddenrun had been more memorable. Although the thread that immediately cropped up in Moderation (why post a thread in moderation to report something from a thread in which the mods are already active participants?) was strange enough to be interesting.
Also, keep an eye out for surprise cameos by random-yet-actually-on-topic posts, such as the guy who posted about MW2 after 20 pages of Mod-related rants.

All in all, I give it 2 stars out of 5. Add one star if your the sort of person who just loves whining about authority figures, detract one star if you have no tolerance for fucking huge word walls that repeat each other or if you mistakenly thought the thread was actually going to be about the things that might make someone leave NSG.

In addition to the mods thing I think some people were commenting on how the atmosphere of NSG has changed. The problems is that we can only speculate instead of getting our hands on what the real problem is. I think the debates going on there are quite crucial to the future of NSG forums.

That really wouldn't do the thread justice, but the gist of the conversation's flow was as such: Neesika began by asking for a reason to stay in NSG. Alarmed that Neesika might leave and concerned that it'll turn into a flamefest of 'gtfo's and 'Nooooo! Sob!' posts, I quickly rerouted the thread into a discussion of how to save NSG. Since then we've been discussing ways that moderators and players alike can interact in a more fun manner. We've come up with some pretty interesting ideas worth further discussion and probably more important, some people had a really good opportunity to get stuff off their chest. Oh, and Neesika dropped the bombshell that she's Hiddenrun. Responses were....interesting. Right now, I'm contemplating another temporary silly diversion to lighten up the thread. Probably something to do with popcorn.
