Apparently they're not supposed to be offensive to anyone ever.

"But most young girls who look at the cartoon, don't even understand that. They just see guys with sticks about to hit a woman."

What are girls that young/ignorant doing reading political cartoons?

The cartoon clearly depicts Obama setting up a trap for the Republicans by daring them to take a whack at Sotomayor's nomination for the Supreme Court. Note the arrays of cameras and microphones at the left edge of the panel and the apprehensive look on the elephants.

Weird, and no they don't see "Men with sticks" they see "Elephants in Business suits with sticks".

Makes no sense

Seems like a pretty good political cartoon to me.Unless you share the mind-set that everything that happens is Obama's fault, it is difficult to puzzle out what the cartoon is even saying. Most of us don't see the Republicans as particularly "reluctant" to bash Sotomayor, or think that Obama was "making" them do that.
