Four hundred years without beaver is finally over. The plan to re-introduce beavers into Scotland has finally swung in to action. Eleven beavers have now been released into the wild.

I do fear that there may be some attempts to kill them, but hopefully it will be a success. Then we can bring back wolves.

This is stupid. You're only going to make the owls angry and strengthen the power of the beaver king Simon Cowell, leading to yet another owls vs. beavers war.

I think they've already started reintroducing wolves too.

The owls can't go unchallenged.

Funny fact: Back in the day beavers were considered fish, so that Catholics could eat them on Fridays in Lent.

This is just asking for trouble. The beaver alters the environment more then any other animal on the Earth with the exception of humans. So it seems to me there needs to be a compelling reason for such an introduction. And there isnt one. Bio diversity is a dumb reason in and of itself. Its scientists with way too much time on their hands and people looking for a reason to keep federal grant money rolling in and to justify their jobs.

when i brought that up last time we had a thread on this i was assured that european beavers are not as aggressive as north american beavers.

i sure hope they are right. beavers are annoying animals.

Yes they are different. Much less destructive than American beavers.

isn't 11 beavers a little too small if I plan on making my fur coat?

The owls can't go unchallenged.

I hope Ward and Mrs Cleaver are up to it. How many beavers are going to be needed again?

I'm not sure whether I should laugh or cry. Suffice to say, you're hilariously, awesomely wrong, starting from bacteria, over insects, to megaherbivores.

Consciously altering their environment may be a different matter, but consciousness has nothing to do with scale.

she said animal

and you could argue that a colony of beavers is far more destructive than a colony of ants, a bunch of rabbits in Oz shouldn't be there in the first place (just adding one) and Elephants fill more of a predator role to trees that would otherwise overpopulate the savanna

Conceded >.>and you could argue that a colony of beavers is far more destructive than a colony of ants,I'm of course looking at it in terms of biomass... :-p and Elephants fill more of a predator role to trees that would otherwise overpopulate the savannalol'd ^_^
