Meh. Normally, I'd be way out of here, seeing as I don't much like the new forum and this one is bound to slowly die as members trickle over. But in about two weeks my uni course finishes and I'm going to have a lot of free time. So I'll be around a while longer.

If you think you can convince OMAC to give Max Barry access to the jolt forum database, for the purposes of transferring anything, you're pathetically naive.

this is the NSG i've known and loved. i'm not good at moving house


when the old Iron Maiden BB i was on died and all our data got reset (postcounts, names, etc), and we moved to a different board, i left along with a lot of the old regulars.

I'll stick around this one until jolt euthanizes it. I have no idea if I'll move to the "other" forum. It's so wierd and uh, wierd. On the postive side, I no longer feel irritated at losing my post count.

I've just checked out the other forum... it's a major pain on the eyes. Seriously. And exceedingly awkward.

I'll be hanging out on both. It ain't the first time I've been a cross dresser. (And as the only one to get that joke, I'm sure I just confused the lot of ya.)

And if there's a specific thread that needs saving, you should start backing it up now; even if you can't be arsed copying it across to the new forum, there's no guarantee that Jolt will keep all the data stored.

Honestly, we don't know. But given that NS1 is Max's, and OMAC's announced the imminent indefinite hiatus of NS2, it seems a bit Pollyannaish to expect these forums to stay up forever.

One of the concerns I have about the new forum is the problem we had with the NS forum before we moved to Jolt. That was the massive, and I do mean massive lagging, and how the only time you could actually post was somewhere between 2am and 3am EST.

I'm semi-proud of my 11k+ posts, but not so proud that I'll denounce the new forum. It's not an eyesore, it's not slow, and it'll take getting used to just like the changes in Jolt took getting used to. Have some forgotten that the Jolt NS Forum didn't always look like this?

It's progress, better or worse. We must live with it, and I'm fine with the new forum.

Just because something is progress or a change doesn't always mean that it is better and we must change.

Simply changing for the sake of change or the sake of progress is just as bad as refusing to change because you want to keep the status quo simply because that is the way it has always been.

We're moving house due to the all-mighty Max telling Jolt to go jump into a lake (So to speak). Eventually this forum will go by way of the dodo and the Mods have been trying to heard us to the new form which is hosted by NS itself and can be found off the NS homepage.

Sadly, getting Generalites to do anything is indeed rather like herding a bunch of noisy cats who are constantly complaining how they don't like the new kibble.

Its easier if you look at it this way. This forum is headed by admins that do not listen to what the users have to say, the new NS forum is. Jolt in no way does anything to actually support Nation States, the new NS forum does. The choice for anyone who actually likes the Nation States community should be pretty simple methinks.

Well, let me just suggest that you don't say anything too negative about the giant, even if it's well deserved criticism. (Look up Daistallia 2104's first post on the other forums for more details.)

I continue to lurk occasionally but am really put off by the quality of debate. From observing a few threads, there's an abundance of ignorant homophobic, racist idiots on there, combined with ALL IN CAPS cliche forum dumbass n00bs. I have a problem with stupid people, they stress me out and make me want to destroy humanity. Thats not a nice emotion to leave a forum with.

The new forums run well, they don't look so bad (though I doubt they can match the finish and design of the Jolt forums purely from resources, both technical and material). But here when people make stupid comments the reasonable majority mock them into submission. Over there, I think that, even if we did all move, the amount of lunatics (and I mean that in the bad sense, not the holy goofball meaning of the word) is sufficient for them to take over the asylum.

A lot is said about how we have a responsibility to move over to avenge Max Barry's lost honour. I've never met the guy, so, if I'm to be totally honest, I really couldn't give a rats anus if Jolt pissed in his wheaties and teabagged his wife and kids. This forum, despite shrinking, is still the more enjoyable experience. As an (occasionally) rational individual, staying here seems the best option.

After this forum dies, I suppose I'll pop in to the new one to see who else has migrated there. If enough of the folks I enjoy talking with have made the switch, I'll probably stick around too. If not, I'll leave, because frankly I find the new forum poorly designed, ugly, and annoying. If none of the folks I like to chat with are there then there's no reason for me to put up with it rather than just find a new and better place to chat.

I'm wondering what's so hard in customizing some things, like the colours...

I actually tried posting a thread there, and while it's been an interesting discussion I have to admit I'm disappointed because all the quality posts are from NSG regulars. Which is not to say I dislike our regulars, I was just hoping some of the newbies over there would have more substantive posts to add.

NSG demands a higher level of quality thinking than most internet forums. And if you look at the posting history of most of our regulars, you'll see that most weren't so eloquent with their posting at first either. Give them a little time to build up a bit.

Besides, it's only natural we'd have an influx of bad posting anyway, given that the new forum is much more accessible to NationStates players than this one is.

I've been posting on the new forums using a puppet, since I fear hostility and flaming from the Stormfront-esque new posters if certain aspects of my life mentioned on here are repeated on there. All I can say is that the experience has only led me to grow more saddened at the inevitable decline and fall of the Jolt forum.

I've gone on there and attempted satire, but it completely falls on deaf ears since the craziest and most stupid arguments I can think of are less ridiculous than the ones other posters are making with a straight face.

There is, lets be honest about this, nothing resembling a debate to be found there, merely a sequence of boring, content-free threads, interrupted by the numerous religious threads and threads about homosexuality in which one side just repeatedly says "YOU'RE GOING TO HELL!" in place of an argument. The average poster there is like the very worst posters on record in these forums who we would previously mock.

I have now, and this is no exaggeration, been turning to the SSA as a refuge from the new forum, finding that the conversation over there is mildly more coherent and well-reasoned than the new forum, and not quite as dead as this forum is becoming. NSG will stumble on but the community, friendly atmosphere, and occasionally thought-provoking threads we have witnessed here are a thing of the past.

I've given it a chance, and spent hours on there trying to like it, but its impossible.

Anyone know of any decent political debate forums I can head off to and maybe see some of you when Jolt dies?
