Era of apologizing is over

"The era of apologizing for Republican mistakes of the past is now officially over," Steele told state Republican leaders meeting in a suburb of Washington to discuss the party's political future. "It is done. The time for trying to fix or focus on the past has ended. The era of Republican navel-gazing is over. We have turned the corner on regret, recrimination, self-pity and self-doubt. Now is the hour to focus all of our energies on winning the future."

Hey don't think about the last 8 years! We really aren't those people anymore! Really.

So does this mean the bringing up FDR, Carter, and Clinton are over as well? Should I hold my breath?

"A lot of Republicans said we needed a breath of fresh air, and I'm one of those Republicans," said Jim Greer, chairman of the Florida Republican Party. "Michael Steele came into the chairmanship as a breath of fresh air: new leadership, new ideas. The majority of Republicans in this country were looking for that. Some of the leaders in this room were seeking it because he was elected chairman.

"At the end of the day, that breath of fresh air may not have been what some wanted. They wanted to revisit the election. I think the door is closed. Michael Steele is here to stay as chairman of this party. He is going to do great things for this party, and that's what Republicans across this country want."

Sounds nice but then you get to:

The Republican National Committee meeting wraps up on Wednesday with a vote on a controversial resolution that calls on Democrats to rename their party the "Democrat Socialist Party."

Yeaaaa....Fresh ideas......
Oh and da linky.....

I guess he had his apologies stored in his navel and lost sight of them when he gave up "Republican navel-gazing."

The orifice the Republicans were gazing into wasn't the navel.

Thank god. I was worried they might realize what screwed them over last year and actually be a threat to the Democrats in 2010. Now that I see they're intent on repeating the exact same mistakes, I can rest easy knowing that they'll fall further from relevance in 2010.

Ahhh, but what if this is part of their cunning plan? They play the role of buffoons and nincompoops until 2010, when the democrats are lax and assured of their victory, and then they pull a sudden 180?

Great, thanks for putting the fear of god (GOP?) into me. Jerk.

But considering how people historically fell for Republican tactics, what if it works too well and the people still consider them buffoons and nincompoops even in 2010?

You'll thank me when the GOP does their 180 and the Democrats are prepared for them as opposed to sitting on their asses.

That should make you worry more than put you at ease when you consider that Republican tactics often involved soundbites and quick changes of position that people eat up.

Oh, you were actually being serious?

In which case yes, you make an extremely valid point, and it would be well to remain on guard lest the conservative movement gets it's act together.
