A pimp is worth the price

The financial kitchen secrets of hookers are now revealed in a study by two American professors: Steven Levitt of the Chicago School of Business Booth and Sudhir Alladi Venkatesh of Columbia University. Levitt is the author of several books popularizing the importance of economics in our daily life.

The authors argued that the average hourly earnings of a prostitute is about $25 in the U.S. But who is relying on a pimp for getting customers, is getting about half more.

Pimps may be willing to pay more to ensure that the prostitutes treat their customers the way customers want, and thus to promote customer loyalty.

The study collected data from the database of the police of Chicago, interviews with prostitutes and pimps.

All together they analyzed 2200 'fucks' which were carried out by 160 prostitutes. And, as they noted, for every thirty customers that is visiting a prostitute, is one a policeman to get free sex and in return not arresting her.

Moreover, there are many more prostitutes arrested (on average once every 450 fucks) than the ones that visit hookers (once every 1200 fucks)

The researchers suggested, not surprisingly, that the price for a session depends on the nature of the sex service.

But there are also prostitutes that adjust prices depending on the customer. White men do pay $8 to $9 more than black men, and Latinos are somewhere in between.

Newcomers also pay more than regular customers.

And the use of a condom will pressure the price. Anyone who does not, have to pay an average of $2 more.

So if you are white and when it's your first time visiting them and you don't want to use a condom, then you're really fucked :)

'I gave up a long time ago pretending that I knew stuff I didn't know,'' he says. ''I mean, I just -- I just don't know very much about the field of economics. I'm not good at math, I don't know a lot of econometrics, and I also don't know how to do theory. If you ask me about whether the stock market's going to go up or down, if you ask me whether the economy's going to grow or shrink, if you ask me whether deflation's good or bad, if you ask me about taxes -- I mean, it would be total fakery if I said I knew anything about any of those things.''

That said, I've read Freakanomics and it's definitely not bad.

I suggest we end this derailing before it goes too far; wouldn't want to shut the red light district down for health and safety violations.

Of course. A pimp provides a more constant flow of customers, better working hours (no need to stand all night waiting), and a better crop of clientele.

If you want a prostitute and you have something to lose, you want her to come from a good pimp. You don't want her to clean out your home before leaving (or at least your wallet), do something bad to you, et cetera. A freelancer can do it and get away with it. But the pimp, on the other hand, keeps his crew disciplined. And even if something happens, you at least can come to him to have it sorted out.

So if we legalize prostitution we should definitely include a pimp clause.

So if we legalize prostitution we should definitely include a pimp clause.
Where prostitution is legal, they usually have bordellos to handle the function.
A pimp, though, has other functions as well.

Said protection works both ways: a pimp not only keeps the prostitute behaving, but also protects her (him) from the client's abuse. She (he) can't exactly go to the police, and neither can the client.
If it's legal, though, they can. Of course, the police isn't going to be nearly as effective as a pimp, who knows his hos and can easily tell if they're lying, for client's complaints, not to mention he'll often feel too ashamed to go to the cops. On the other hand, it could be more effective for the prostitute's protection, but in practice the police, used to viewing them as criminal elements, isn't likely to actually follow up on the case.

So classic style pimping will remain at least for a good while even if prostitution is legalized.

A pimp also serves the important function of introducing new employees to the profession. Only an extremely deranged, cornered (likely drug-addicted) woman would make a decision to go out and sell her body, and as the male population of NSG can attest, many prostitutes, especially call girls, are nothing like that. It's also a severe mental trauma if one does that out of reasons other than drug addiction.

Pimps make this process gradual and painless. They find, or more commonly are found by, women with a natural inclination for whoring (the slang is "slut"), and help them get in touch with their inner ho. It starts with sexual experimentation (a pimp must excel in bed!), and proceeds to introducing her to freelove, showing no jealousy, encouraging her to try, which she's eager to do already. After trying a few swings or some light group sex, she's pretty much ready. The first time she works for money, she won't even realize it. A good pimp will introduce her to a nice and well-trusted client, who will be his friend he owes a favor to, etc., and is sexy enough for her to jump him on her own anyway; and he'll help her with some money.
By the time she understands she's having sex for money, she'll be prepared enough to think - "...Hey, and it does feel great!"

Um, no.

Pimpls may be necessary, or perhaps useful would be a better word, in the current context of illegality, but I don't think they should be mandated for sex workers.

I have an idea: why don't we let the sex workers decide of they want to have a pimp or not?

You have a lot of assumptions about sex work. I am doubtful as to how true they are.

I am just saying if we legalize prostitution we should take advantage of the pimp structure.
By placing a pimp requirement on women of the night.
Maybe even grant the pimp a special legal status to handle disputes.

Just kidding, since there's pimping, there is a handbook.
