Big projects this year

Ok, folks, it's May, the year is almost half over.
What big projects did you do this year, which ones have you started, which ones are you still pushing off?

Me, I've started doing my driver's license. And we've finally got a mortgage approved, so I'm spending lots of time these days together with my Bf snooping around other people's houses.
And as if that wasn't quite enough, I'm also preparing our wedding in September, while trying to get a promotion in my job sometime towards the end of the year.

What keeps you busy?

Well, I'm just about to finish my 2nd year of university, last exam on Friday. Then during the summer I'm hoping to find a full time job before I start my final year of university where I will be swamped with assignments.

I'm also working on two of my own private projects, book ideas I've had for a while though I really need to work on my narrative.

Learning to drive (passing the test in another matter, we shall see later this week)
A few months away from finishing my PhD thesis - though that's been ongoing for three years, so probably doesn't count.
Starting to prepare to move half way across the country for a new job.

Yes, I'm up for the test in about 1.5 months.... scary.
Sounds like a big move... what kind of job will that be then?

I keep several irons in the fire, as a general rule. Otherwise I get bored, which is usually when I get into trouble. I'm finishing up a fire/BBQ pit on my property, I've got to tinker with my still, get it working better(it works fine now, but it can always work better)a few other things.

One of those rare things - a permanent research job :D But it does involve living near Portsmouth

You certainly aren't afraid to take on a lot in one go.

As for me I am planning a change in career direction/looking for a new job.

What direction, what kind of job? If you don't mind my being nosey ;)

And believe me, it sounds more than it is. You just need a good schedule on a nice spreadsheet to see you through.

A number of things, but a lot of it is more or less on going. Mostly it's just settling into a new school and working out what's expected of me.

Finals are the flavour of the month. After that, party. Then it's starting looking for another job to fill my time next year (already have one part-time lined up that also guarantees accommodation).

Not sure yet, just sick of the contempt with which library and information work is treated where I work at the moment. I just want to do something different.

The only thing that I'm doing that counts as a big project is the webcomic I started last month.

Bit off topic but I've just read your comic and I'm enjoying it. Good job.

new dedicated server, crash course in server admin, great new website for main client, another one on the way... that's the main stuff. possible promotion round the corner.

on a personal level, i watched all of Star Trek DS9 because i wanted to work out why i always hated it so much. turned out it was great, and totally stands on a par with TNG and VOY. now watching ENT. also, trying to get a flat probably counts as a big project, as does losing weight.

I wrote a script last year and this year I filmed it, I'm finishing up the last bit of editing the premier is Friday night.

This summer I plan to really work on getting the rest of my condo done....I did the carpet last year/this year and painting....now I just have to do the kitchen and bathrooms and it's done.......it's taking forever though.

Tell me about it....my big project last year was to fit the new kitchen. My project this year is to finish all the little snagging jobs (clean up the tiling, final fix on the fittings etc)

I am good at procrastination unfortunately

I'm three months behind schedule on my big project for the year. :(

I'm trying to launch "phase 1" of a small publishing company, but due to the economy, I had to get a full-time dayjob to cover immediate living expenses. This job is not a good match. It is a brain-eater, just mentally exhausting, with tons of problems which, under better circumstances would have made me quit already (payroll delivery issues). Plus various other distractions (computer problems, personal insurance issues, my lease coming up for renewal (maybe), etc) -- it all adds up to this: I was supposed to have products for sale on Etsy.com at the end of March, but instead, I am still photographing objects and trying to design a shop banner. Summer is going to be all about playing catch up.

Not a happy camper at all.

Continuing the long tale of graduate school, continuing the menacing of the federal government and perhaps seeking to have a romantic life that isn't merely post-bar/party hookups.

Too much going on. In no particular order: A wood floor for the family room. I am just amazed it's a pain to get "real" wood rather then prefab stuff. I was going to pay somebody to do it but they were all "You want us to cut wood to match the rest of your floors?!?!?!" Ahhh the free market! Landscaping the back yard. Some in the front yard.
Bookcases for family room. New fence.

Work wise. Getting used to being a cog in a big company vs the top dog of the small company. We were purchased and of course the job isn't that good anymore. But I get to play with virtualization and citrix. Also, get to reup my linux time. Let that drag off a little over the last couple years. I am going to reup my stupid certs for job hunting though.

Reminds me, of the fact that I'm going to continue to help my parents fix their empty nester fix-er-upper house they bought last fall. I'm hoping I can get them to let me detonate a seventy pound bomb at the bottom of their pond in order to dredge it out.

And my house: 112 years old with the most beautiful wood floors you've ever seen from the original construction. These narrow planks are lovely, and filled with character.

At the moment I'm slowly learning to drive, building my steam punk PC case and trying to finish my MCSE course.

I know I should be concentrating on my MCSE but building the PC case is much more interesting. I'm most annoyed that the water cooling system didn't turn up today despite the next day delivery I paid extra for.

Still working on getting my place the way I want it -- including having built some wire baskets-on-rails for the previously wasted space in my pantry, cleaning the attic so that I can store stuff up there, et cetera.

I was gonna say nothing but I guess that's not true. I moved out (again) to become some sort of ski town bum last January. Other than the terrible snow we had this winter it was a hoot. After all that I moved back home (again). I recently bought a canopy for my truck and am converting the box into a makeshift camper for the summer months. I recently got to test it out this May Long in the snow and rain. It is snow and rain proof, Booya. Just needs some finishing touches (and the mud cleaned out of it). I don't know what's next exactly.

I've finally stopped procrastinating, and (after taking the NRA basic pistol course a second time in 3 years) submitted my pistol permit paperwork, after getting my procrastinating friends (of course they're procrastinators, that's one of the things we have in common :D) to write letters of recommendation for me. Of course, the project isn't complete until my paperwork comes back. Since I passed the background check to work at the Post office, I'm not worried about passing this one.
