Things to do in Denver when you're dead...

In a few weeks, I'm going to be visiting a friend of mine who is a grad student at the University of Colorado. I'm planning on flying in a few days early so I can enjoy Denver before I head over to Boulder. I have been to Denver before, but it was always on my drum & bugle corps summer tour so almost all my time was spent rehearsing and performing rather than seeing the city.

So, what are some good, non-touristy, "off-the-beaten-path" places to go? Good restaurants? Is there somewhere I can take my revenge on John Elway for not signing with the Colts and forcing us to endure several years of Art Schlichter, Jack Trudeau, Gary Hogeboom, Blair Kiel, Chris Chandler, and Mike Pagel?

Hmm, considering I lived in Boulder for 13 years I should be able to think of some places there.;) I Don't know much of Denver that would fit the description "non-touristy."

If you're interested, though, I could probably recomend some restaurants in Boulder. And there's a small museum with some interesting stuff up on the University of Colorado campus.

The casinos at Blackhawk are only a short drive away. You could drive an hour and a half to Colorado Springs and see the Garden of the Gods, drive or ride the cog train to the top of Pike's Peak, see the Air Force Academy Chapel. In Denver - baseball season is starting - check the home games - the Rockies aren't the winningest team around, but it's fun. Baker Street is a decent pub and Old Chicago Pizzeria is good, too. Drive to Golden (not far) for a tour of the Coors Brewery - they serve samples of beer after the tour - I recommend Blue Moon. You can see Mollie Brown's house, take a drive to Red Rocks to see one of the all time great amphitheaters - on July 2, Celtic Women will be appearing there - check online for tickets. Or just walk around LoDo and soak it up.

I have been wanting to go to Red Rocks for awhile, ever since I saw the Moody Blues concert video. I wouldn't mind seeing Celtic Woman, but July 2 is well past when I'll be there.

The only way I'd ever go to a Rockies game is if they were hosting St. Louis :D

Thanks for the restaurant recommendations...I'm sure my friend knows plenty of places in Boulder so that's not a problem, but he says he doesn't get over to Denver very often.

Best song ever, terrible, terrible movie.

That's all I've got, sorry.

Give it a name.

I spent 25 years in Denver, and the main thing I learned is that urine cuts right through a 12 foot snow drift.

Not everybody has a place to go.

Just roll around Denver all day....

If you like a great salad, find a Mad Greens restaurant. Little shops that whip up ridiculously good salads. There's one on the 16th Street pedestrian mall downtown. I had the one (forgot the name) with lime-grilled chicken and mango chunks. Blew my mind. Good prices too, for how much they give you.

There's a very good used CD/vinyl store near the capitol building -- can't remember that place's name, either, but I had some excellent Ethiopian food (gotta love taiff) in that area, too.

ARE YOU SERIOUS?!

AWESOME!

I totally need to get tickets. I wish I'd known about this beforehand.

As for places to go in Denver, I dunno. I live up in Pine and only go down to Denver when I need something down there. Or to go to Red Rocks Community College.

Go see the Nuggets.

Good luck getting tickets. Because of the whole Lakers/Nuggets thing they're getting hard to find.
