Your favourite fictional robot

Blouman Empire

So who is you favourite fictional robot and why?

Mine is The Robot from the TV series Lost in Space aka a Non-theorising general environmental deducing robot (I know someone will correct me on the proper name). He could do almost anything and always provided amusement when ragging on Dr. Smith, granted that Smith also provided comic relief which helped with the Robot bringing amusement to the viewers.

I also give a shoutout to Robby the Robot from Forbidden Planet.

Strictly speaking, both GLaDOS and SHODAN are AIs, rather than robots. Otherwise, I'd have said Skynet. Instead, I'll say the T1000 terminator. Arnie's cool and all, but the slim, sleek, viperesque T1000 was just awesome.

Being a recon design, a Hellspawn is a little under 30 feet you'll find. It's also got a shitty weapons loadout and overall performance. Give me a Cougar any day.

I personalized mine, and 30 feet was an estimate.

Mine had, light ferro fibrous armor, Beagle II Probe, a single LRM 20 with 2 tons of ammo, 2 medium lasers, and an Ultra AC 5. It was much better than the stock version.

I always figured R2-D2 was shaped more like a trash-can than a vibrator, but I would not be at all surprised to find that each merchandising option existed.

As regards the OP, I'm going to have to go with the original Terminator.

"The Terminator's an infiltration unit, part man, part machine. Underneath, it's a hyper-alloy combat chassis - micro processor-controlled, fully armoured. Very tough. But outside, it's living human tissue - flesh, skin, hair, blood, grown for the cyborgs...The 600 series had rubber skin. We spotted them easy. But these are new, they look human. Sweat, bad breath, everything. Very hard to spot. It can't be bargained with, it can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear, and it absolutely will not stop. Ever. Until you are dead."

No, it was fucked up by being frozen in liquid Nitrogen. After that it couldn't properly control it's memetic liquid body, which kept trying to take on the attributes of whatever it touched.

For me, I have two. If biologic Androids are being counted, then Roy Batty from Blade Runner takes the prize - simply for being the most human. If not, I vote Maximillian from The Black Hole - flight capable, deadly at range or in close, and the most badass look of all.

No denying its a badass machine regardless. But there's two things about it that confuse me:

First, why when it was chasing people did it usually move with a slow menacing walk rather than running them down at top speed? Second, how did the thing go back in time if only living things can go through? It didn't have a skin covering did it?

First question, no idea. Could have figured didn't have a short-term deadline to meet so could take its time hunting down the targets. Something Pepe Lepew was onto way before Judgment Day.

The second question... It seems McG is interested in doing another Terminator movie after Salvation and seriously wanted Robert Patrick in a part as a scientist working on stem cell research. So it could possibly be that the Mimetic Polyalloy is in fact nanorobotic stem cells which can mimic life functions well enough to travel through the time field.

Favorite robot: R2-D2. I also like ED-209, even though he can't walk stairs.
Favorite android: Data. But I consider Lance Bishop 341-B a close second.
Favorite cyborg: The Terminator*. Darth Vader lost too much because of the prequels!
Favorite AI: KITT. HAL9000 or KARR are just a little bit too crazy for my liking!

Robots, eh? I've always liked robots. My current wallpaper is of a MechWarrior: Age Of Destruction Raptor II (http://www.warrenborn.com/Unit.php?ID=DOM101) using electronic chameleon camouflage to make itself a more difficult target in the urban warzone where it fights. But that's a piloted robotic warmachine, so I'm not certain if it counts. Come to think of it, Space Ork Gargants are pretty cool too, given the fact that they're actually giant walking scrapheaps with heavy yet disturbingly unstable weaponry welded on for good measure.

When talking about fictional autonomous robots, I rather like the 2007 Transformers movie version of Bumblebee.

The Lions one, not the ridiculous one made from a zillion spaceships.

I like Dairugger IV (the 15 vehicles) because of the versitility of each team. each team can unite to form three mega vehicles.

At first I thought that was pretty cool too, but that Voltron lacked the nobility and pseudo-fantasy aspect that GoLion had. GoLion had the sort of mythical flavor to it that elevated it above just being a simple giant robot story.

*nods* true dat. which made the whole "legends tell of a mighty Robot..." in the opening rather... stupid for the Dairugger IV story.
