Ferrari: "Modify the rules or we stop”

Ferrari have threatened to quit Formula 1 at the end of the season if the sport continues with plans to introduce an optional £40m budget cap from 2010.
"If the regulations for 2010 will not change, then Ferrari does not intend to enter cars in the next Formula 1 world championship," read the statement.
Ferrari fear the evolution of a two-tier championship, between those teams who adopt the cap and those who do not.
The teams will discuss the plans with FIA chief Max Mosley in the next week.

Currently there's already a small budget cut and look what is happening: 'small' teams attack the real big ones.

The last couple of races were the best in years. And it is certainly for the neutral watcher exciting to see other teams in the front rows.

Ferrari may have a very long tradition in Formule1, but I think the sport is bigger than Ferrari.

I actually agree with Ferrari here, this so called budget cap which will see a two-teir champoinship come about and wreck the sport, Ferrari isn't the only team talking about leaving, Red Bull has expressed that they too will pull out at the end of the year if the FIA continue these absurd rules.

The FIA and Bernie Eccelstone have made changes they have brought about the desired reults why make more changes that will wreck the sport?

Extreme emissions requirements. Get everybody to race in the Smart FourTwo and that should kill the sport entirely.

As for other rules that may just force out more teams is the one being talked about by the FIA banning refueling stops.

This is a shitty situation. It's basically forcing a decision between innovation and good watchable racing which brings more fans to the sport.

Then again it's really the FIA's fault anyway for enforcing so many rules against simple innovation; the rules force the teams to invest a lot of money for minuscule upgrades (mostly aero stuff which costs a lot of money for wind tunnel testing).

The real solution would be to make a budget cap and eliminate some rules to allow innovation.

Just my $.02 (US).

As long as it's designed to last.

It will just look like bicycle races - everyone fighting for the middle to minimize drag and save fuel for the final laps, where they try to overtake others spending as little fuel as possible.
