More common sense from Obama

Seems Obama is going to take funding away from those ineffectual, and counter productive, abstinence only sex education programmes. His budget is going to redirect $138 million away from abstinence only programmes and into evidence based sex education. I am really pleased to see him continuing to strike blows for common sense.

I love the sarcasm of McCain's daughter at the bottom of that article. :)

One of the biggest critics of old-style Republicanism is Meghan McCain, daughter of the party's 2008 presidential candidate John McCain. Joining the debate today, she wrote on the Daily Beast website: "Bristol Palin's new abstinence campaign shines a light on the Republican party's unhealthy attitude about sex and desire."

She added: "Daughters of Republican politicians aren't expected to have sex, let alone enjoy it - as if there were some strange chastity belt automatically attached to us female offspring. God forbid anyone talk realistically about life experiences and natural, sexual instincts. Nope, the answer is always abstinence."

Great. Obama's getting his act together.

What's that supposed to mean, that he's suddenly doing things right because he's focussing on this one particular issue? Its not like he's done nothing the last three months.

Schweeeeeet!

I always hated that program and it tended to get added to aid programs to Africa.

Simple minded logic at it's best!

Hey just don't have sex and you won't get aids or pregnant!

"Liberals, meanwhile, highlighted congressional reports revealing that just-say-no programmes often peddled misinformation: that contraception is likely to fail, that abortion can lead to sterility or suicide, and that half of US gay males have tested positive for Aids."

Wow! Sounds like the wishful think of the Evangelicalo. 1/2 of gay males having aids. Serves them right for choosing to SIN! Now they can go to hell and listen to Barney tunes forever!

So far, save for the economy (which takes time anyways), he's undoing quite a lot for five months.

The best program is saying that "If you're going to have sex, you need to use a condom or some other form of contraceptive. They aren't 100% reliable, only abstinence assures that one does not become pregnant or get someone else pregnant, but not everyone is going to remain abstinent, so if you want to have sex, use protection."

I, personally, have chosen to remain abstinent until marriage (at which point I will just have sex with all women ), but I know not everyone is going the same route as me, so I'd rather people just were informed and protected themselves.

His social change has been good on some parts, bad on others (I'm against abortion except in extreme circumstances), but I haven't seen much economic policy change in the area of spending.

If you're under the rather nonsensical dillusion that money spent is money spent, and it doesn't matter where how or why, then yes, the Obama administration is a lot like the Bush administration in the general sense of "they both spent a lot of money".

If however you have more than a, let's say, grade school level understanding of economics, and understood that the question of "if" is sometimes equally, or indeed less important then the questions of "where" "why" and "how"

And in that regard, Obama's policies regarding to where how and why money is being spent is radically different than President Bush's

Yes, I do understand that Obama's spending is much more focused on the area of social spending, whereas Bush's spending was more focused on the area of defense spending, but really, I'm just sick of spending in general.

I want it all cut back. Defense spending, social spending.

If you want to create a separate topic for this, that's fine, but I don't want to jack this thread.

That's....very nice, but that's not what you said. What you did say was:

but I haven't seen much economic policy change in the area of spending.

Which you now admit isn't true. Now, you're allowed to not like his policies. You're allowed to disagree with them. What you can't do (or at least shouldn't do if you're at all interested in intellectual honesty) is try to argue that "I don't like what he's doing" means "he's not doing anything"
