Guinea recalls 30 ambassadors, from US to China

By ALHASSAN SILLAH – 1 day ago
CONAKRY, Guinea (AP) — Guinea's ruling junta has recalled 30 ambassadors in cities from Washington to Beijing, nearly five months after seizing power when the West African country's longtime dictator died.

The military junta gave no reason for the diplomatic reshuffle, ordered by a presidential decree read on state television Tuesday night.

Almost all of Guinea's embassies abroad will be affected by the reshuffle, including those in Paris, London, Moscow, Cairo and Pretoria, South Africa. The Guinean representatives to the European Union and African Union were also included.

Those that were not recalled include those in Canada, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Mali, and Angola.

That's kinda odd, though of course Guinea's new dictator has his reasons. Why do you think there was a recall?

They needed more people for an epic governmental D&D session.

I am guessing it is based off of the political leanings(or suspected) of the ambassadors. Ambassadors often make excellent heads of governments in exile.

Probably a cost-saving measure. Guinea's not exactly rolling in dough. Or, perhaps, the ambassadors were too close to the old regime (but then that begs the question: Why wait till now to recall them?).

I think that these ambassadors' wisest choice would be to resign and ask for political asylum to the countries they're in right now.

That occurred to me, too. I'd be very careful, if I were in their place.

Traditionally, a mass Ambassadorial Recall occurs when A) the nation involved is going to war, or B) a major change in diplomatic policies is in the offing. In both cases, the Ambassadors are either thoroughly briefed on the new national position, or replaced with people who have been.

Since I sincerely doubt Guinea has the capacity to attack someone, I'd suppose the latter.
