Hello.

Agrarian Socialism
05-05-2009, 22:24
Hello all. I prefer to be known as C.L. I am an agrarian socialist, which is a brand of socialism focused on decentralization and community-based action rather than centralized government attending to the wants and needs of the elite. I don't know what else to tell you, to be honest, other than I'm a political junkie and this is my porn. Kind of sad, but we all have our passions.

Welcome! Just keep in mind that attempts at socialism often drift rather deeply into authoritarian...

Isn't a centrally planned economy a key facet of socialism, though? How do you do that and embrace decentralization? Plus, what happens when/if your society moves from agrarian to industrialized?

I don't know what else to tell you, to be honest, other than I'm a political junkie and this is my porn.

You typed that sentence with one hand, didn't you? Sticky keyboards make The Baby Jesus cry, you know.

A planned economy is an essential component of socialism, in the broadest sense of the word. But the situation in, say, the state of Arizona might be different than the state of New York. While the people might vote in favor of an economic plan for the federal government to implement (as I am a proponent of direct democracy), the states can take even stronger steps to help their economies through proposals of their own. What works in Arizona might not work in New York. This is why I reject the notion of a one world government: It would be impractical. The situation in the U.S. is totally different than the situation in Africa or Australia, etc., etc.

To move from agrarian to industrialized just add gulags, brutal purges, and a paranoid moustachioed Georgian. Serve cold with a bottle of vodka.

Isn't what you describe there, the exact opposite of a centrally planned economy, though? If the states are allowed to go their own way, even if only to a certain extent, wouldn't that throw off the central planners? Plus, I think direct democracy might prove to be impractical in a large population.

of course not

But an argument is a connected series of statements intended to establish a proposition. That's not just saying "No it isn't".

Why is it suddenly fashionable to start introduction threads (we don't care who you are yet, sorry), and/or inform us how you wish to be addressed (we don't care, sorry)?

Hardly. These threads allow the more reasonable newbs to make a good impression on us, and allow us to make them feel more welcome.

Don't feel bad Neesika that you have fallen out of the fashion loop. Hell I want to start up a new account just so I can be apart of this trend.

Neither gun smiley first posts or 'hey I'm new, um, hi guys' posts are going to make a good impression on us. They need to sink or swim, dive right in, get into the thick of it etc. Only then do we figure out if they are douchebags, douchenozzles, or douchesolutions.

I'm pretty sure my first post was snarkily political, and one of my first threads was spammed with dead baby jokes by Drunk Commies. Try that, n00bs!

Some kinds, yes. But said kinds are not considered "socialism" by many people on the left, and the majority of left-wing NSGers do not subscribe to these kinds.
