Boy killed as car mounts pavement

An 11-year-old boy has died after a car mounted a pavement and crashed into a group of pedestrians in Bristol.

The female driver of the white Ford Focus left the scene of the incident in Fastfield Road, Westbury-on-Trym, leaving the boy trapped underneath.

A man was treated for minor injuries, while three other children at the scene were not injured.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the crash, which happened at 2115 BST on Friday.

The woman has been described as white, with long blonde hair and in her mid-30s.

What kind of sick person leaves a car on top of a kid and then leaves? Your thoughts on this?

Same person who decides it would be a good thing to shoot up a school, or drive their car through a parade.

The kind that doesn't want to get caught.

It is. Of course some parts are horrific (Lawrence Hill being the poorest neighbourhood in Europe ftw!), but other parts are lovely. We just have quite a lot of hit-and-run accidents.

Bristol is great. I went to uni there, and plan on moving back at some point in the future.

As for the driver of this car, she was almost certainly a drunk driver who panicked.

There was a similar incident not far from my house a year or so ago, where a woman drove a car onto a pavement mowing down a couple of women then fled the scene. The woman turned out to have some serious mental health problems.

Lawrence Hill is the most deprived electoral ward in the south west region of England, is part of the Bristol European Union Objective 2 area, and has a New Deal for Communities project within its boundaries.

That doesn't say it's the worst in Europe. But it sounds shit.

Wow, that's a helpful description there, I mean, two out of the three of those are going to fit, what, 60% of the women in Britain? I bet they have her rounded up in no time.

Thats sad and pathetic; this woman should be punished severely when she gets caught, and since they should be able to trace the cars registration they WILL catch her.

Because judges in this country are a pile of shit. Remember that kid who was was stoned to death while drowning in Manchester? His killers got 3 years. Another guy got beaten to death in Bristol, his killer got 3 years.

What happened to life imprisonment or the death penalty?

What happened to life imprisonment or the death penalty?

The death penalty left us for murder in 65 or 67, they don't like doing life imprisonments because of prison overcrowdings.

Lack of logic on part of government FTL

I'd rather prisons were overcrowded than murderers be allowed to roam the streets.

Better yet, Britain should just do what they used to do: Send them somewhere else. Maybe just drop them off at the South Pole, let them figure out how to survive.

The death penalty has been abolished in the UK since 1969 (though, technically, you could get capital punishment for certain treasonous crimes up until the late 1990s; but this would never have been enforced), and its abolishment is a prerequisite for membership of the EU.

Life imprisonment is still a sentence that can be handed down by judges, though it's rare for a criminal never to be seen by a parole board. Tabloid newspapers do not like this and, at times, virtually blackmail the government with 'moral outrage'.

Take the case of Peter Sutcliffe, the 'Yorkshire Ripper', a serial killer who murdered thirteen women during the 1970s and early 1980s. It's recently been reported that he is not a danger to the public anymore, or at least shouldn't be in the high-security mental hospital where he is now, but no Home Secretary would dare approve his release; they'd be forced out of their job within the week by public pressure. (Which is one of many reasons why a member of government has no place deciding prison sentences.)
