But I've just never been much for hunting. Seems rather silly to go tramping around in the woods for a few hours, get sweaty, mosquito bites all over you, and buy a whole bunch of useless crap for a few minutes of shooting and one paragraph worth of bragging rights. Much better to go off somewhere where they have those fancy shot-registering screens, bring your crossbow along, and enjoy a few hours worth of shooting without any of the boring, primitive crap we were supposed to have given up years ago.

Can't we seperate arms ownership from 'pride' at armed or unarmed status? Must it really be such a big deal? some people want to have a weapon, some don't. As long as the people -with- the weapons aren't trying to lord it over those without just to prove to everyone that they're big and manly, is it actually important, really?

Well, I take some amount of pride in knowing that I own a Crossbow. I wouldn't try to lord it over anyone (Minus my friend who also is trying to acquire a Crossbow:tongue: ). It isn't extremely important (Unless we're invaded in the near future and/or have a sudden rise in violent crime, in which case you might want to go around armed), but hell, what is? At the very least, it's a good waste of time, and makes a few talking points.

I've no qualms with you having a crossbow. I hope you enjoy it. I just think the constant scrabble for the high ground between 'armed, responsible, prepared' gun-users and 'unarmed, sane, don't-need-a-gun-as-a-penis-substitute' crowd is getting a bit stale. Both have good arguments for and against weapon ownership, and I hope they continue to debate it - it's just the... 'betterthanyou'ness that comes from both sides that really stinks. I'm sorry for partially hijacking your thread to espouse my own agenda.

the army is switching to the A4.
Though it will be phased with front line types getting first batch.
the reason for the confusion is colt dubbed it the A3 unoffically before it was adopted by the military.

the A3 is the designation for an A2 that is still full auto. rather then single semi burst of the normal A2.

Full auto A-4 will likely be called A-5s.

Seriously. This isn't even about the "right to bear arms" anymore, it's about "hope the ones that don't have arms get screwed, haw, haw". Why exactly? Can't a person that doesn't have arms simply figure there is something better to do with their time, as opposed to not having a weapon just so they can personally spite gun owners in general and you, Myrmidonisia, in particular? For someone who trots about "gun ownership rights", you seem VERY willing to forego the right to NOT have a gun.

I live in CT. In order to carry in CT, you need a pistol permit. Therefore, gun stores can't sell a pistol unless you have either the pistol permit or an Eligibility Certificate (the Eligibility Certificate requires the same fees/paperwork to be filled out as the pistol permit, but it only allows the purchaser to bring the pistol home, and nowhere else). So it's smarter for me to get the pistol permit, since it will allow me to take it to the range.

The only other way I could obtain a pistol (legally) in CT without either the pistol permit or the Eligibility Certificate is to inherit one. But even then, all I can do is transport it home.

I don't know, I've never found hunting to be boring or primitive. The same goes for trapping. You get to be out in the woods, you get to use a specific set of skills, and at the end of the day, if you're lucky, you've got something to eat.

The A3 is fully automatic and in USN use only. Whether USN covers the Marines or not I haven't a clue. the US Army, as far as I know, still use the A2 as standard, but the A4 is becoming increasingly common. Along with the M4.

I also believe some versions of the M16 and C7/8 have got into British Army service in small numbers.

Depends on your state.
If the state has castle laws like Texas and Florida, then you can shoot them for crossing your fence, or coming in your home. I think Florida lets you shoot them for getting in your vehicle too.

Bah, a real weapon weapon is the Mossberg 500 Rolling Thunder.

Honestly, the muzzle stabilizer makes it look stupid.

If/when I get a shotgun, I'm considering this: http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/shotguns/model_870/model_870_express_combos.asp

The nature of my weaponry is a matter of national security for, at last count, 17 nations.

I've got an issued AK-74M, and the PMM is sitting in the armory, because it's quite useless.

At home Ive got a Mosin-Nagant 91/30, some really old hunting shotgun I got from my dad[family gun, I guess], and an old AK-74 I snuck back from Chechnya >.>

An old Ottoman shamshir, a falchion, three kukri, and a Dha. I'm best with my hands, though.

the Queen lets me play with one of her SA80 A-2's (along with tons of other cool shit aka me lugging a GPMG round)

as for me...er I can run really fast or at the very least faster than the woman I'm with >_>

I will be issued an M16 soon, I think.

don't worry the novelty will soon wear off as you carry the bloody thing for miles upon miles followed by the dreaded cleaning

I not sure about that cam scheme...I mean why if all it will do is make you lose the fucker?

but then again your hardly gonna lose it because its almost on SPAM level of cam madness :p

I also believe some versions of the M16 and C7/8 have got into British Army service in small numbers.

currently being used by our special forces because they got rather fed up with the SA-80 being a useless POS

he might have some trouble explaining it at the airport though :p
