Glad to see the good ol' folks at the CDC have our backs in this, our hour of need and the greatest threat the humanity has ever faced.

the only people who are talking about swine flu are the ones saying everyone is constantly going on about it

stfu ssly if people want to be extra careful and not give me the flu thats fine and if you were really switched on you would be getting a cheap holiday in Mexico right now

Which is where?

As Ctp says, the only folks talking in length about the epidemic are the media and those who're decrying the outbreak as nothing but hype.

It's reassuring that we've so many epidemiologists here on NSG.

It was kind of spooky until the other day when Obama broke it all down into very simple terms when he said "It's not flu season!" Something that should have been said over and over by the CDC. And when flu season gets here there will most likely be a vaccine.

Who wouldn't agree that a few dead Mexicans isn't newsworthy?

TBH, however, I agree that, like on most issues, the media is feeding ridiculous hysteria way out of proportion to the actual threat.

Who wouldn't agree that a few dead Mexicans isn't newsworthy?
12 confirmed dead from flu over a space of 3 weeks is not particularly newsworthy.
'flu and pneumonis kills over 60,000 in the USA alone - that's an average of about 6 an hour (ignoring how silly extrapolating 'flu). This swine 'flu is equivalent to 2 hours work in the USA for the common garden variety 'flu.
'flu alone kills around 36000 in the USA and up to 1/2 million world-wide: 1 a minute on average. Over the same period, on average, around 2000 Americans and ~30,000 people around the world died from 'flu.

So no, I don't agree that a few dead Mexicans is newsworthy. Especially as the 'flu strain that killed them is looking less and less like the killer pandemic the authorities are warning it to be. It's no more deadly than any other 'flu strain, and they barely rate a mention in the press. It's all fear-mongering and over-reacting. As usual.

One question that wasn't answered in the FAQ is: If one finds themselves becoming attracted to Miss Piggy, does this mean one has contracted swine 'flu?
I'm, uhh, asking on the behalf of a, uhhh.., friend.

There was a lot of hysteria in the Australina media even linking it to terrorists.

This clip just shows a small amount of the media hysteria and crap that they talked about. http://abc.com.au/tv/video/program.htm?program=mediawatch

It has not even been in Australia yet the media would like to think that we are all about to die.

The issue with this flu is the fact that no one has immunity. With a usual seasonal flu, many people are immune (be it through immunization, previous exposure, etc). This one has no such immunity. If 10x the number of people get the flu, that means 10x should die. Which is a decent amount.

Better not come to close to me Sark, I may have Swine flu.

If you do get it, the first sign of swine flu is that you break out in rashers.
