Ah, hello.
Progressive Federalism

As a shameless political nerd I imagine I'm going to have quite a bit of fun here. For starters, here's some basic information:
- I'm from the United States.
- When it comes to politics, I am a federalist in the tradition of Alexander Hamilton (first Secretary of the Treasury) and John Adams (first Vice President and second President). I believe in a strong national government, economic self-sufficiency, and an emphasis on manufacturing and other industrial production. I'm not a supporter of either major political party.
- When it comes to religion, I refer to myself as being an agnostic more often than not, with deist tendencies. I believe in certain principles and I try my best to live by them.
- My favorite writers are Joseph J. Ellis and David McCullough, two of the finest historians currently living, in my opinion.
That's about it. Do you care? Probably not. But I thought it wouldn't hurt to get it out in the open.

Don't worry, nobody's perfect. ;)
I believe in a strong national government...
That's gonna have to go.
...economic self-sufficiency...
That too.
...and an emphasis on manufacturing and other industrial production.
That depends on how you achieve it.
I'm not a supporter of either major political party.
Excellent.

That's your business, as long as your principles include two things: a refusal to impose them on others, and the inclusion of the principle that everyone has the right to have their own principles. Sorry if that sounds confusing.

I cared enough to comment about it, so it can't be all wrong. :)

And look where it got 'um. I like unions in theory, but they really seemed to screw the pooch on this one.
Wages on jobs will fall to the level where people are willing to work them for that wage. With nudging from a minimum wage, of course.
You know, if we really wanted to get people employed, we'd abolish the minimum wage. I wonder how the free marketeers would react if someone who actually believed in a purely free market started advancing that idea? I bet they'd find a way to distance themselves.

True, but the service economy requires Americans to buy shit, if the majority end up with lower paying jobs than their previous ones, we're screwed, :(

Deflation is the price we pay for our artificially-inflated economy. ;)

It's got to be in there, otherwise it's not going to work. Plus, if your principles require that you tell other people what to do, then your principles are just plain wrong. So the only way to do it is with one rule saying: no impositions.
That could be seen as an imposition in itself by those being deliberately obtuse, but if they have a better idea I'm seriously all ears.
First post, and I like you already.
I think you'll do well here.

Welcome to the land of Godless, intellectual faggots. The mods have a bias and will punish you if you never molested a child (male), or never had an abortion (female). Oh, and many of these fucking communists are Muslims, which explains why they hate America.

Well PF, welcome to the nuthouse.
As a shameless political nerd
Welcome to the club!
I'm from the United States.
Misery loves company: so am I.
When it comes to politics, I am a federalist in the tradition of Alexander Hamilton (first Secretary of the Treasury) and John Adams (first Vice President and second President). I believe in a strong national government, economic self-sufficiency, and an emphasis on manufacturing and other industrial production.
The Jefferson ideal of a nation of small farmers who own their own means of production has always appealed to me much more. But, then, I'm a socialist, so....
When it comes to religion, I refer to myself as being an agnostic more often than not, with deist tendencies.
I'm an atheist who thinks deism makes little sense post-Darwin.
I believe in certain principles and I try my best to live by them.
This, at least, we share.

We live in a Constitutional republic, Parkus, where it is blatantly and obviously [u]unconstitutional[/i] to deny pies the right to marry! Separate but equal ISN'T!
